The best spice shop bar none! Excellent selection of so many different spices it's almost sensory overload! I love that they have different spices to be able to test out. They frequently run sales. The sales associates are knowledgeable and the Services prompt. I really love the way this place is put together and I would highly recommend it to anyone that really likes cooking.

Penzeys continues to be an amazing socially conscious brand that offers consistently high quality spices and herbs. Must go!

What a great spice store. They have just about any type of spice you could want in multiple sizes that you can purchase. Everyone in here is always happy to assist you if you're looking for a particular spice, but I would suggest just to plan on taking a while and look at all of them. They often have great deals if you sign up for emails, so definitely do that online if you're planning to visit.

Good spices, good causes, good people. Penzeys is a top tier spice shop full of wonderful people, and some serious flavor. First and foremost, they have every spice you need, many of which are a much better alternative to big brands. Most have 0 or minimal salt which is really nice. Their flavor combinations are filled with real ingredients. Next up, their selection is superb. They have all the basics of just dried and ground spices as well as incredible combinations that elevate any dish. They also have a ton of fun with their profiles creating international flavors grounded in social causes near and dear to our hearts. The interior is well organized, and all of their flavors come in multiple sizes. It is clear Penzeys care about people and care about community. Everything you want in a local, community shop Penzeys embodies. What an absolute gem.

I love this little store in Maplewood. Stopped in while killing time waiting for a Yelp Event!! Stocked up on some Extracts and seasonings!!! Can't wait to go back! The store is so cute and inviting!!!

Very cute spice/dried herb shop out in Maplewood! There are a bunch of different options of everything you can think of, from dried shallots to almond extract to Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indonesian cinnamon--who even knew there were that many types of cinnamon??! There's also a big jar with a metal lid for each type of spice so you can smell them before buying. They also have cute spice blends -- we got a little thing of "Justice" (combo of garlic, dried shallots, green peppercorn, chives) because it smelled so good! Excited to use! The staff here was also very friendly and helpful! Cute shop!!

Excellent selection of spices, herbs, & baking ingredients! Hoping their mailing list allows for some great perks...my Sunny Paris was free the day I purchased! Besides the various spices they have a lot of gift boxes or gift ideas for the chef or American in your life...or teacher! I got a great teacher appreciation gift from Penzey's a few years ago from a student & his family. Plus, I'm originally from WI, so I appreciate supporting a WI business!

Order at the counter weather you are getting butcher items or ordering food from the menu. Don't forget to look in the cold cases for any number of items from eggs, bone broth, their delicious frozen biscuits, and many other items. Lots to choose from. I don't usually stray from my usual order of seasonal hash but I was eyeing a couple of new items I hadn't seen on the brunch menu before. A breakfast sandwich and hash browns. I was going back and forth and one of the employees encouraged me to go with something different. I asked if I could get it on a biscuit and would be sold. They checked and said yes, I was excited because I LOVE the biscuit. I decided to try the hash browns, too. You take a number and pick your seat, counter with stools line the windows to the outside as well as section that looks into the butcher cutting area. Food came out quickly and was thrilled at the hash browns, they looked so good. Shredded potatoes fried crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside - very good and I would definitely order them again. I am usually very picky about cheese, but I love pimento and the biscuit sandwich was amazing. So it came out as a split biscuit with the house ham and pimento spread, pepper jelly, arugula, heirloom tomato, and a fried egg. I cut the egg in half so I could take half home but it turned out to be nonsense as I couldn't stop eating the sandwich and finished the whole thing! Now I will have a hard decision next time I stop in! Staff is always great, super friendly, and always helpful answering any questions. Food is amazing!

I stopped in to pick up a pork loin because I was around the corner, looking for ~3-4lbs of meat. They only had a 1 1/2 pound in the case (order taker weighed it to confirm before going to the back, which should've been my first warning) so I asked if they had any larger ones. They were nice enough to check and offer to cut one. That's where things went downhill. After waiting 5 or 10 minutes, my order taker came back out to ask how I wanted it prepped (bone or boneless, skin on or off). I said skin off and ambivalent on the bones. This was my mistake, leaving my fate to the hands of someone profit motivated. I walked out with just about a 3 pound bone in roast, which is maybe half a pound more meat than the one and a half pound I turned down - not enough for my guests and I. Had I gotten a roast closer to 4lbs, I would've been unhappy with the price but not enough to write a review. Additionally, they only charged a dollar less for bone in. At $15/lb, I effectively paid the price of their beef for the meat after accounting for the bone. I felt tricked. In hindsight, I should've just turned it down when I saw the price, but I was a bit too shocked to say anything. So I paid my bill and swore that I wouldn't be coming back for anything but (maybe) sausage or a snack again.

They did not have this but once the very nice lady that works there knew what I wanted she was able to recommend items I would enjoy. She is so patient and kind. I enjoy the fact that she is extremely knowledgeable about the products and gave me a taste of everything I asked for, even mixing oil and vinegar together for me so I could taste the combination. She took her time explaining the bottle sizes (and a bonus, I didn't know before is that if you keep your bottle and clean them, bring them back and they will refill them with a new oil. It saves on the cost a bit because you don't have to buy new bottles) There is a very nice stock of alcohol as well here and they are all so unique. I am not a drinker so I skipped that but the selection of oils and vinegars is just as impress. They also have things like risotto, spices, chutneys, honey, chocolates and more. It is a very cute and welcoming space where you are greeted, allowed to explore and then assisted which makes for a great shopping experience. There is also a man who works the shop who I spoke with last time and I'd like to acknowledge that he is equally as friendly and knowledgeable about products and very friendly and helpful. Now I want to say here that I really feel when it comes to oil and vinegar you get the quality you pay for. Bot only does Vom Fass stock items using herbs and fruits that are in season but they are truly quality items. I am health conscious so enjoy using oil and vinegar of salads or veggie platters and Lao use flavored oils for roasting vegetables and each time I have used a Vom Fass item, I have been blown away by the taste so their products are definitely splurge worthy. Finally they host wine tastings and meal events that look fantastic and I will be signing up for some events here in the future. On the way out, the gentleman who works there came and opened the door for us and void us goodbye and safe travels. I appreciate this step and again felt not only welcomed but appreciated.

It was almost as if i was eating a fresh baked slice of garlic bread. I'm looking forward to going back and purchasing the chili Olive oil, and the pomegranate Vinegar. The gentleman working at the time stated Vom Fass has been around since 2006. Beautiful clean layout. Plenty of parking outside and friendly staff! I'd attend such a meeting, but more so for the lulz (but also to share my beliefs). I'm pleased to report that there's none of that going on here, that I'm aware of. Granted, this was a Sunday morning. I was there with my running group as part of our ongoing unofficial breakfast burrito tour, the last such stop until this fall, due to upcoming marathon training. Of course it was the most unpleasant day of the year, maybe ever, with a heat index of 117 (no hyperbole). I changed shirts before I came in and then sweated through that shirt as well. One of the ladies I was with left a gross pool of sweat in her chair after she left. It didn't occur to me to pull a Charlamagne tha God until hours later. I'm growing as a human being. Part of that growth is gradually coming to realize that seasonal lattes, unless they have sort of especially distinct flavor, like banana, aren't going to taste like anything other generic artificial sweetener, let alone what they purport to be. I considered ordering an iced caramel latte, but I figured what the heck. I went with something called a Miso Brown Sugar Latte. It was good for what it was, but I don't know that anyone, if you gave it to them to try, could identify it as that. I liked the fact that it had a somewhat more pronounced coffee flavor, compared to some places where it mostly just tastes like a glass of milk. I wasn't as crazy about the fact that it took a while for the ice cubes to cool it down, probably longer than it would have taken if it were served in a glass cup. I went with something called the Annex Burrito, which I didn't realize until after I ordered it is not the only burrito they carry. I guess you can also get a bog-standard breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs and cheese. This one comes with corn, beans and some sort of unidentified crema for the same amount. Maybe they give you less bacon. Mine didn't have a lot of bacon, but the bacon it did have was not crisp and had a precooked vibe. The latter was more of an issue for me than the former. I'm a savage in that way. I did appreciate the fact that it was griddled, possibly using a panini press. The exterior was ever so slightly crisp, while the interior was pizza roll-level molten. The overall vibe was similar to those microwave burritos they used to carry at 7-11, but in a good way. All I needed was a mini truck enthusiast magazine filled with photos of bikini-clad Latinas and a Windex-blue Slurpee, but I was able to make do with a lukewarm mystery latte and the old ladies I run with. I'm resourceful.
