Penny Donuts - 09/09/2020 rain or ash we going to penny's - Donuts Near Me - Newark, California

One of my surprising finds on Yelp. I was trying to figure out what to serve at a company morning meeting. A coworker suggested breakfast burritos but I decided to go with breakfast croissant sandwiches. Yelp found Penny Donuts which was very close to the office. The friendly staff helped me order the croissant goodies the week before the meeting. I ended up ordering 30 croissant sandwiches all with egg, cheese, and meat (choice of plain, ham, bacon, or sausage). I also picked up some donuts to go for "quality control" purposes. They were both fresh so I was encouraged about the sandwiches. On the day of the meeting, I headed over there 15 mins before the start of the meeting. My order was ready to go. While heading back, the delicious smell was permeating my car. Everyone gave positive comments to the egg, cheese, and meat ration, the taste, and texture. So, everyone was both surprised and happy at my selection. Bravo Penny Donuts! read more

Ordered an egg and cheese sandwich and the bread was super warm and it was cooked well. Also got a glazed donut. Donut was amazing. 10/10. So soft and delicious. Amazing place. read more

Barest of bare-bones run-of-the-mill donut shop. Very limited selection. I stopped by on the way to work with a hankering for a decent cinnamon sugar cake donut. Their's hit the spot. Their pain au raisin looked good, so I got one of those as well. Not bad. Decent if you happen to be driving by. Not worth a special trip. read more

Mmmmm....donuts...... A friend brought a box of assorted donuts from Penny's Doughnuts over for a potluck. At first, I thought, OK, that's weird....we're Asian, aren't you supposed to bring eggrolls....or maybe even wingstop? But 5 seconds in the microwave and I understood the magic that is Penny's Doughnuts. Mmmm....soft, sweet, goodness in my mouth... It turns out this is a really small, mom and pops run business. Great quality for super low prices. So yeah, even though Krispy Kreme is delish....it's nice to support your small local businesses. read more

note: i went at 9:50 so it's possible that the lack of options was due to my late start morning i went in planning for a half dozen (apple fritter, boston cream, sprinkle, eclair, crueler, and an old fashioned). i was only able to get 2 apple fritters (last two), 1 old fashioned, and 1 chocolate sprinkle (only sprinkle option left). i had to go to a second shop nearby for the rest of the items requested by the family. read more

Just a corner donut store, no big deal right? Yes you are correct, but the differentiation is their attitude. Penny Donuts are delicious, & the small staff always ready to wear a smile & say "thank you". That alone deserves a 5 star! read more

A delicious hole in the wall! Right off the bat, this place left a lasting impression with their remarkable speedy service! There was a constant stream of customers coming in, but the man at the register was able to take two orders at once! And checked out each customer with the fastest time I've ever seen. There was a woman in the kitchen who would hear the next order and start toasting bread, prepping eggs and wrap sandwiches with lightning fast fingers. Everyone was in and out in a matter of minutes. I think I spent a total of 8 minutes max, from the time I walked in, debated over the menu, ordered and walked out with a piping hot delicious breakfast sandwich. The eggs are fluffy and cooked to perfection. The croissants are flaky and buttery. And another impressive note, the Asian American man at the register learned Spanish to cater to his population of Latino customers! If you're in the area, you gotta stop by! read more

I gave this donut shop two chances to provide acceptable customer service and was disappointed both times. I went in last week, asked for two regular dozen assorted. Knowing the typical donut routine I was prepared for the minute or two for the person put the donuts in the box, to my surprise a worker by the register pulls a box out of nowhere saying "here you go". I said I just ordered two dozen, the person said yes we have two dozen ready already. I said ok, then the second surprise, the person says that will be $20.20. "Uh, the board up there says a dozen is $9.00?" I say. "Yes, this box has special donuts in it" the person says. To his credit, he did ask me if I wanted a different box. Not wanting to now wait for what I originally ordered, I scraped the extra $2.20 out of my pocket and headed on my way. Fast forward one week, I go back to give this business another chance. Going in I ask for two regular dozen. Wow! No surprise box this time, the worker starts loading up the box. As the person is putting the donuts in the box I double check the board to make sure a dozen is still $9.00, yep still $9.00 cool. Box makes its way to the register and the person types a few time, looks at me and says "that will be $20.20". WHAT? I say. I asked for two dozen "regular" donuts. Perfect opportunity for this business to say, "our bad" special donut is on us. Nope, dude grabs the box pulls out the special donut and replaces it with a different one, and appropriately charges me $18. Walking out wondering why I gave this place another chance it occurred to me, that's one very special donut costing $2.20 more than the others. Needless to say, I won't be back, I'll spend a buck more in gas to drive to a much better donut shop (customer service, price, quantity, and quality) in Fremont near 5 corners. read more

This is my absolute favorite donut shop ever. Owners are so sweet and professional. I have been going for about 5 years. Breakfast sandwiches are a must. read more

Better than Krispy Kreme. Glazed and donut holes were especially good. Definitely will be returning for more donuts soon.

My mom used to take me here every morning as a kid and their donut holes were my favorite. I went again recently and the place is just as nice as I remembered it. Great donuts and great service! read more

Wow... I don't even know where to start with this place other than by saying, it was phenomenal! After failing to find any old BK or Mickey D's to grab a quick grease bomb during a road trip, the Googler Maps delivered this little gem nestled away in an unassuming strip mall. My first round (trying to be "good") consisted of an odd looking, but oh so fluffy, glazed that would have brought the CEO of Krispy Kreme to tears. My second trip to visit the cashier got me a delightfully flaky ham and cheese croissant.... because really, can anyone be full after eating just one doughnut?! AMIRITE?! I left the cashier a thrid time with my head down in shame, but my hand wrapped around a fantastic, custard-filled maple log that was so brilliantly wonderful, that nothing that I say here can ever honor it's memory. God rest it's soul. And did I mention, I got this and food for 3 other people for less than $14?! read more

This is the 3rd time we go before 7:30am and they have NO DOUGHNUTS! I went in this morning and they only had croissants. Wtf! How do you run out of product and then you don't bake more?! DISAPPOINTED. read more

I have been to Penny Doughnuts a few times now and I usually pick up a dozen or so donuts for my co-workers. I was feeling greedy on my most recent visit, so I got myself half a dozen doughnut holes (10 cents each). I think I could have easily done with only three doughnut holes, because those things were huge! I don't think I have seen such big doughnut holes before! I ended up sharing with co-workers anyway, so I guess I wasn't that greedy. I like the doughnuts at Penny's, because they are fresh. I admit, the selection is on the smaller side, but they have all of the staple flavors so that's all that matters. read more

My husband has been telling me about this place for weeks-and I thought-if you've had one doughnut you'd had them all O BOY WAS I WRONG! The doughnuts are airy, huge, and delish! The selection is limited depending on what time of the day you go by. They are worth showing up early or getting what's left!! Start your morning off in a great way, I did and I couldn't be happier!! read more

Ive been going here for years and I cant express how good there customer service is.. Donuts are fresh and soft.. Not to sweet just right.. It is kinda busy in the morning times but good places are busy soon can't complain.. Good place read more

Their sandwiches are bomb! So good! And the owners are a super nice couple ~ Their donuts are nice too! One sandwich I can eat only half for lunch. Like $5 each. It's pretty decent. read more

I was a little hesitant when clicking "breakfast" under Categories when doing the data entry for this donut shop, cuz I can eat donuts at any meal of the day, but for the public, I'll give you breakfast. Anyhoo, while running errands before work, I happened to check this place out. It's nothing big, very basic donut shop, fluorescent lighting, cold, hard plastic tables and chairs (a la Winchell's) and they don't even carry a wide range of donuts. To my disappointment, they didn't even have my favorite, the swirly glazed cruller. So since I was on my way to work, I decided to pick up a lil sumtin, sumtin for my immediate crew (which is about 5 people). I see a huge pile of glazed donut holes, so I ask for 2 dozen. The guy grabs 2 bags from the top of the counter and I'm being rung up. With a small coffee, my total was a whopping $3. Simple and cheap, just the way I like it. And for $3 friggnin dollars, I was able to put a smile on my crew's faces, in the time of day when smiles usually don't come around too often. Thanks Penny for making me the "good" guy for the day, and yes, all for a whopping 3 bucks. sssshhhh that's our secret. ; ) read more

This donut shop has the best breakfast sandwiches ever omg I really like the #6 it's a sausage bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a lightly sweet and buttered croissant. I've also tried the sandwich on a cheese bagel and it was awesome as usual. The donut holes and the apple fritter is my absolute favorite. read more

Penny Donuts - SOOO GOOD #6 - Donuts Near Me - Newark, California

Great tasting donuts for a great price. Nice & simple.

Cash only but a very clean well lit donut shop that has the most interesting shaped cinnamon roll that I had ever seen. It wasn't circular but shaped like a star where it's spread out into six different directions. It's easier to eat and doesn't require two hands! They also have the other special donuts as well as standard and I got 3 specialty donuts plus a regular one for $5. Not too bad! They have coffee ready as well as a fridge full of drinks too. They also don't skimp on the glaze of the donuts either... I give Penny a slight edge over Lloyd for the time being... read more

I was told by a friend to check out this place because I dislike the bland taste of Krispy Kreme donuts. This place has the tastiest donuts I've ever had! They have a wide variety of donuts, but you must try to get here before 11am (at 11am is when they run low on their donuts). Setting is clean and staff is absolutely nice. Donuts are soft and melt in your mouth. The coffee is just an add on bonus! So glad I came across this place :) *you can never go wrong with an old fashioned glazed donut!* read more

Penny Donuts - So soft and fluffy! - Donuts Near Me - Newark, California

I was in the area the other day and decided to buy a couple donuts for my kids. When I walked in, I noticed that the store was pretty clean compared to this other one near my house. There wasn't much selection for donuts so I ended up buying 2 dozen donut holes. The lady that helped me was pretty nice but she thought I was Vietnamese and started talking Vietnamese to me. I'm Chinese! Anyways, I left with my donut holes and ate one at home. I did not like them at all. They were dry and dense. I don't think I'll go back to this place again. read more

I've been coming here since 2009 and the donut holes are still fluffy and the best ever. They're still 30 for $3 after 7 years. Great deal. I find their donuts tastier than krispy kreme. They're a small ma and pa business so selection is small but they serve all the basics. read more

These are some of the best tasting donuts I've had. The dough is really soft with an outside crisp to them. They're really good. I'll definitely be coming back to this place. The staff is really friendly. I highly recommend this donut shop. read more

I recommend this place. I have been here a couple of times and the donuts are really good and they do not have any oily or greasy feeling. they are just soft delicate goodness. I also tried their ham, egg, and cheese croissant and they were really protein packed. The eggs did not feel greasy at all. Always a good call! read more

My mom bought these donuts and I thought they were one of the best I've tasted in a long time. I love Krispy Kreme, but sometimes I want something different-something old fashioned. My favorite- coconut glazed!! And the donuts actually taste fresh. I hate going to some of these donut shops with stale donuts or gnats around the donuts. Ugh! On another note, I didn't like the custard in the custard donut. It tasted strong. Daughter loved it. read more

Best price for delicious fluffy donuts in town. I am from Socal, and when every I am in town for a visit, I always make it a point to stop by. Some of my favorites are the Trusty Glazed Donuts, Donut holes, Apple Fritter, and Bear Claw. The friendly couple that run the place has always been nice and they never dissapoint in service, price, and quality of the donuts. Whoa. Damn. My mom and I were wandering around just after noon, waiting for people to finish their acupuncture appointment in the plaza. I don't come here that often, let alone wander around, so when my mom said we should check out this donut shop I said sure, why not? At first glance it -appears- to be your very standard, minimal-strip-mall donut/coffee shop; clean but sparse interiors, simple sign. We got there at noon so like many people have said, selection will be limited the later you go but they still had my favorites, which is cake donuts and donut holes and a couple other staples (honestly if you just want a good basic donut). Got a half dozen donut holes, an old fashion, and two sugar and a glaze. Cash only, but it's cheap, and I noticed they serve fair trade coffee and sandwiches as well. I can definitely imagine this place is popular with the morning crowd. It's clean, has all the basics--for a place like this, you don't need to be fancy. Just a good, no-frills, friendly place to buy your donuts and coffee for a good deal. Now, I usually don't eat donuts often, but boy before I even took my first bite, they looked amazing. And then you bite into a pillow-y soft donut hole, all nicely glazed...gaaaawwd...I knew there was a reason I never like Krispy Kreme; not when there's such good local businesses! I loved the cake/old fashioned as well, both were moist and not dense and just the right sweetness from the glaze...mmmmm.... I am eating the rest of my donut holes as I type this. I regret not buying more donuts. read more
