Dang, Penn Station. You've been hiding in plain sight. I literally never think about this place as an option for a meal, but maybe I need to make Penn Station a stop on my rotation. At least, this Broad Ripple location is very good. The service is excellent, the restaurant is incredibly clean, my food came out freaky fast (no wait, wrong sandwich joint), the food is delicious, and my meal came with a tasty little cookie. Also, this location is just steps from the Monon Trail, so it's easy to get to, plus there is lots and lots of parking in the huge lot. I got a kids meal, which is half of a sandwich, fries and a chocolate chip cookie. For kids meals, you can choose any sandwich on the menu. I chose the Club, which is ham, turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, honey mustard and mayo. I opted to get it toasted, because they gave me that option. The Club sandwich is super tasty! I got it on multigrain bread, which felt like a healthy choice, but it kind of disintegrated under the weight of all of the ingredients. Next time, I will get a regular white roll. The fries are the kind of fries that I love: cut from fresh potatoes, sorta mealy and also kinda crispy, and just plain great. Kids meals come with a cookie! How cool is that? I love bonus, unexpected treats, especially in this economy. I ate my little kids meal in the dining room, and it was a pleasant experience. Kids meals are actually a lot of food, so I left more than satisfied. read more

Penn Station is not my favorite chain but desperation makes you do weird things. I never liked the Skokie (Chicago) location much but only because they're super expensive for what you get. This location was just as expensive. My chicken parm was good, but the sandwich was a tad sloppy and didn't have much to it. I asked for lettuce just to fluff it up, otherwise it's just pieces of chicken with cheese and sauce. This location is a little depressing--in a strip mall near Broad Ripple. The staff were friendly, and I wouldn't hesitate to return on a future trip to Indy...if I get desperate again. read more

I had been craving Penn Station, so I popped in to satisfy said craving. My go-to sandwich at any sub shop is always the Italian. I will occasionally diverge from that choice and venture out to try something new, but the Italian has my heart. I placed my order online for my small Italian and a medium fry, as well as their own version of the Arnold Palmer called the Summer Squeeze. I also ordered a chocolate chunk cookie for dessert. Looking back at my order receipt, I realize that I didn't get my cheese & bacon dipper! It's a cheese cup with bacon bits for your fries. It was my first time ever ordering it, which is why I forgot all about it. I've got to dock a star for that. That was $1.89. Anywho...when I arrived, the young man who was working the register and the fry station was wiping down tables and seats. I love to see an employee using their down time in an appropriate manner. He greeted me and let me know that we were just waiting on my fries, so you know they were hot and fresh! He prepared my lemonade and directed me towards the tea to complete my Summer Squeeze and then I was off. The sandwich was perfect, the fries delicious and my cookie was nestled against the hot fries, so it was also warm and melty. I like that you get to complete the Summer Squeeze, so you are able to control the ratio of lemonade to tea. The service was good. The store was immaculate. I was very pleased. read more

The bread was not cooked well on all four of our subs. Unfortunately the bread was so doughy that I couldn't eat it. I ate the steak and the steak was ok. I ordered on the app. The food was ready on time. read more

They use fake butter to put on their bread, and they have the audacity to call it "Butter". Its literal soybean oil with THBQ and a bunch of chemicals added, and they drench the entire baguette this way so theres no escaping it, you have to get the nine grain sand-which, and theres no hot sub option for those so your options are pretty much limited to an turkey sub. The Italian tastes decent but it has a bunch of mid-quality meat inside that really doesnt stand out compared to any other basic food shop. I thought Penn Station was supposed to be high quality and "all about the taste" but I guess when it comes down to it, they dont care about the true taste, they just want to save more money and sell us cheap ingredients because they get away with it and nobody questions it read more

Rolled in 15 minutes to close and they were still grilling up sandwiches. Great service, friendly staff. Got the $5 small Philly with everything on it, it was soooo good. I always forget about Penn Station! I need to go more often. I'll definitely be back next week to take advantage of the current $5 deal, and I'll be back in the future to try some more subs! read more

Despite being a lifelong Indy resident, this is only my second time in a Penn Station location. This spot is located in Broad Ripple in the same strip center that houses Biscuits, Shalimar, and my good ole' buddies at Magic Bus. Penn Station as a chain first opened in 1985 in Cincinnati. It has grown into a 15-state chain with 306 locations. The Penn Station menu features an array grilled Penn Station submarine sandwiches, fresh-cut fries and hand-squeezed lemonade. All the sandwiches are prepared fresh in full view of the customer using hearth-baked bread, USDA Choice Steak and potatoes that are hand selected, fresh-cut and flash-fried in cholesterol-free peanut oil. The lemonade is made from scratch every day using hand-squeezed lemons. I'm not sure how old this location is in Broad Ripple, though it's been here just about as long as I can remember. This strip center has fairly decent access with sporadic accessible parking spots, older but functional curb cuts, and everything is on a single level. The single-sided glass door is a little heavy but not bad. As you enter, the ordering counter is to the right and a dining area to the left. The dining area is rather narrow - it reminds me a bit like a subway. I was able to wheel down both sides of it, though if Penn Station is crowded it does require a bit of caution. There is a large menu at the door that I completely missed. They don't have overhead menus and the only other menu is on their counters and their counters are definitely higher than wheelchair height. They primarily have a variety of sub sandwiches that come in small, regular, and large. They do have some other sandwich and salad options. I'm not aware of combo options and one was not offered. I ordered a small turkey and provolone with mayo (it apparently also came with tomatoes). I also ordered a small order of their fries - my first time trying them - and a large unsweetened iced tea. They carry Luzianne iced tea in the fountain (which is self-serve). The food was delivered in a carry-out bag, though I was staying. I found an end table that had a chair I could easily remove. The highlight here was definitely the service. Employees were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The food is rather middling to me, especially at a price that I could have easily matched for what I'd consider fast casual. I paid a bit over $12 for a fairly basic meal. The fries were fine, though given it was a small order they seemed more like nubs than actual fries. The sandwich is a cold sandwich (which I was told) and it was perfectly fine. Basically, this was pretty much the definition of an average meal. The atmosphere is, perhaps, the least pleasing thing here. This "looks" like an older location. The paint is somewhat faded. There are stock Penn Station photos on the wall and a color scheme that is so neutral you could practically meditate with it. All of the tables are small and basically 2-person tables. If I were rating separately, I'd probably go a 4-star for the service, 3-star for the food, and 2.5 star for the atmosphere. In light of the fact that this is a bit pricey, I'm evening it out at a 3-star rating. There's nothing particularly wrong here, though it's also not a place I'll feel the urge to rush back to. After my second Penn Station experience, I've yet to really see how they distinguish themselves other than actually offering fries with their mostly deli selections. Overall, I'd likely revisit again if in the building but if in Broad Ripple and not needing to visit this building I'd likely try elsewhere. read more

do not under any circumstances come to the this penn station unless you want to wait three buisness days for your food

Penn Station is a reliable sandwich joint. The Broad Ripple location is pretty par for the course. Staff are friendly enough and the restaurant is generally kept clean. It's a quick in-and-out eatery with good sandwiches that will fill you up. read more

Took over 25 minutes from the time I ordered to receive my sandwich. It was very hot inside while I waited. Ordered just a large chicken Parmesan and was disappointed in the size for the cost. No chance that it was the advertised 1500 calories. However, the sandwich still tasted quite good, especially on the multigrain bread. Maybe they deserve another chance on taste alone. read more

I've done a few online pickup lunch orders here in the past few months without any issues. I've used their app in the past, but this last time a notice popped up indicating the app was being discontinued, and to order online. Transition over was fairly easy. Wait time for my orders are always minimal. Last order I had to wait for my fries to come up from the fryer, but no complaints because they were fresh and hot. The first couple of times I still had to sign for the order, but this last time I did not. I'm glad they changed the setup for less contact due to the ongoing pandemic. The staff has always been friendly and masked up. My meals are always consistent with flavor and I like they recent addition of the multigrain bread. read more

How do you say garbage in French? Idk but it was pretty much garbage. I ordered a BLT with extra bacon. No extra bacon was given and no tomato. I was given a lettuce and bacon sandwich yikes. When I returned to the front with the incorrect sandwich they just gave me tomatoes. I was over it by then. The fries were extremely soft as they clearly hadn't been fried long enough and the pizza sandwich we got for our kids looked like hot a** so we just threw it away. My husband's sandwich was just an okay experience as well. We won't be returning. One star because the customer service at the beginning of the order was decent. No pics because no one wants pics of trash. read more

I walked in and Zachary greeted me by my name! I had not been in in awhile. Now that is great customer service!!!

2 years have passed since I last walked into a Penn Station. As I approached the register, I scanned the menu. "Simple to understand, satisfactory descriptions, and diverse options", I thought to myself. I asked the worker for a combo meal, only to be disappointed that the only combo meal that was available for me was the monthly special. Or in other words, only one specific sandwich was allowed for a combo meal. Thus I was forced to order the pizza sandwich. "Alright, well there are much worse options," I thought. All was well. Until the price reached my ears. One regular combo meal was over $15. For a fast food sandwich shop, this was genuinely unacceptable to me. Alas, for the sake of the review, I swallowed my pride and coughed up the penny for this culinary excursion. That being said, the worker was extremely kind and all that I could ask for as far as service goes. I stepped over to the soda machine as it spit out potentially the worst Dr. Pepper that had ever touched my lips. Once I realized how bad it was, my experience was quickly remedied by a much improved root beer. The wait was not long at all as the worker brought out my food. I don't think I'll ever understand why Penn Station presents their sandwiches in a way where I have to mangle my sandwich into a folded position to eat it like an actual sandwich, but I made it work. First bite was excellent. The bread was magnificently fluffy while also soaking up the pizza sauce well. The pepperoni and ham were excellent complements, but the provolone cheese was the star of the show. Deeper and deeper into the meal I got, the greater the toll the onions took on me. I finished the sandwich before I was repulsed, but still a concerning precursor. The fries were reminiscent of wannabe Five Guys and lacked seasoning, but got the job done while also distinguishing itself from other sub shops that failed to provide fries. To top it all off I ate a chocolate chip cookie barely larger than a morsel and priced at $2.39. How such a small cookie has this price point legally, I still do not know. As far as the location itself went, it has a smaller aesthetic and tables are curiously tiny in width, but the shop wasn't particularly bad or good. All in all, the quality of food was solid. I throughly and enjoyed the quality of the sandwich and cookie, and even the fries even if they were lacking a bit. I was also satisfied with the quantity of my food. The service was great as well. Toss that in with outrageous pricing and tiny tables, and it makes for an okay experience. I will not likely return for at least another 2 years, but will ponder on this evening as a good one. read more

The food is good but the service is terrible. First, the app doesn't work -- hell, it doesn't even list the correct phone number! The cashiers don't pay attention. I don't know if they are poorly trained or just don't care. Last time I ordered I arrived to see my order sitting in the shelf. The cashier printed my receipt but did nothing to check on the order. I asked about it three times and was dismissed each time. She didn't even look at the name on the order. Finally, after the fourth time asking, they gave me my order. This is poor service. I hope they read this and fix the problem. read more

Heard good things about Penn Station so I was looking forward to trying it out. Overall, it was a decent sub sandwich. Nothing particularly special, but it wasn't bad either. I can't say that i'll be back, but a combination of hunger and unwillingness to spend a lot may bring me wandering in some day again. This location in particular had a great atmosphere with very friendly employees. I'd say that the atmosphere made the experience more enjoyable than the food itself. Oh, and skip the lemonade. It was pretty terrible. read more

Will never order from this location again! Ordered through door dash, and my fries were not in the bag for any of the sandwiches. When the sandwiches arrived there was barely any meat on them. Also ordered a Caesar salad, that literally had chicken and lettuce in it (there was no cheese, croutons, or even dressing provided). Tried to call the store, and their phone is busy for hours, very poor service and even worse food. read more

Pretty darn consistant. They really need to figure out the same type of delivery that JJ has.

I was just in Indy this past week....and I want to cry a bit now that I am back in Phoenix....I miss Penn Station. I love...and I mean LOVE Cheesesteaks...and while I'm usally a nazi about it having cheese whiz like the original did....I'm not mad at Penn Station because it is so freaking amazing. The bread they use must be the secret because it puts together the sub like no other. The meat is fresh, the fries are fresh and all the topings are fresh.....even their lemonade is made there on the spot. 2 huge thumbs up to Penn Station. If you have a penn station next to you....I envy you, because here in Phoenix we are deprived. read more

I stopped into this penn station because I needed a quick take out dinner. It took about 15 minutes from walking in until I was walking back out. So, they don't really check the quick box, at least not like Jimmy Johns. I ordered the special, which was the club with a small fry and drink. I requested it cold, because I was taking it to go. The girl taking my order told me everyone gets it hot. Fair enough, I guess I will too. Perhaps that's what took so long? But it also led to me getting home and eating a soggy, cold sub 30 minutes later. If you aren't in a rush and have time to dine in, this is a great option. If you're in a hurry, go somewhere else. read more

Visiting Indiana with my girl. She has been taking me from one food place to another. Lunch today... Penn station. I have never been to a penn station before. I was HIGHLY impressed. I had the Philly cheese. It was so good. The flavor of the pizza sause was unexpectedly good. I would prefer a little less onion... But it did not stop my enjoyment of the food. The fries were fantastic. How can you make fries better than fires already are? I dont know,... But they did. The staff was very friendly and quick. Come out to california.... QUICK! read more

Not sure what the hype is, I brought my friend here for lunch since Penn station is her favorite place but I was disappointed. On her sandwich they must have done double oregano because it completely covered her entire sandwich to the point you could hardly tell what it was. My pizza sub thing was bland and oily. I thought the menu was pretty limited. That being said the dining area looked like it needed attention and as the man behind the register seemed to be hard of hearing or very confused as he asked us to repeat ourselves multiple times. The whole experience was just off somehow and I do not think I will be back. read more

I loved my experience, the manager was very nice about refunding my money due to me not really liking my drink. I appreciated it..

I have eaten at several Penn Stations, and the are A-OK (I'm sorry, I will never tire of copying the phrase from the star rating). Could maybe have 4 stars. The staff at this location were friendly, and it is smallish, but when we went there was plenty of free space. Clean, quick. All good things. As for the food...the food is not bad, certainly worth the price you pay. This time I ordered the chicken Parmesan. Good hot sandwich; though of course when you get it it is not overstuffed with chicken as the pictures advertises. Not surprising, just don't overexcite yourself :) Fries have a good flavor, but many of ours were a bit on the small side. There were plenty of them, just so many that were 1 inch in length. Size doesn't matter when it comes to taste, but it does make it easier for me to dip in ketchup! Lastly, a cookie! This is a pretty hefty cookie, and it was nice and soft with large chocolate chunks. Near the end of eating it though, you can start to taste how bad it is for you, and wish the chocolate were dark instead of milk so it wasn't quite as sweet.Satisfying, (overly) filling meal. read more

Seriously tasty food, i have zero complaints about the subs. If i was a richer man I would dominate their fries and Philly steak subs on the regular. However, I am more run of the mill middle class post college poor kid and this is where Penn Station suffers. The price of these tasty treats are simply to much compared to other sub shops in the area. This is truly the only thing holding me back. And fears on onset death if I eat another 3 orders of their mind melting fries. read more

This used to be my favorite place for an Italian Sub n fresh cut fries. However the last 2 times my fries were cold but I gave it one last chance just now. I used to come here every week but lately I guess old fries n cold sandwiches now. Bread used to be hot n crusty. Kathy read more

Absolutely the worst place I have EVER been too. Have been waiting for 40 minutes, and everyone behind me has gotten their food. When I asked what the problem is they realized they gave my food to someone else. So not only have I already waited the 40 minutes, I also have to wait MORE so that they can actually make the food. I'd rather drive 30 minutes than come to this disastrous place. Would not recommend. read more

Penn Station was always a fall back for a good quick sandwich. You got your moneys worth. Now the sandwiches are so thin looks loke the bread has width has been cut in half. It isnt a good value any more. Wont ever go back. Will drive to firehouse subs instead. Way to lose a customer read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. 30 minutes before close and the employees were scrubbing down the grills at the same time that they were putting our food on the grill. I'm originally from Philly so I know steak sandwiches. Penn Station does a decent steak sandwich -- but a few select places in Indy do it better. This is probably one of my favorite quick hot deli sandwich shops, but here recently the sandwiches aren't living up to there expected name. This location used have so much care and attention into making and creating those once delicious sub sandwiches. The past three times I've been the service has been ok, but the food has been subpar. The sandwiches are cold even when ordering them grilled, the fries are like warm at best even though they are suppose to be made fresh to order. I'm really just disappointed in the quality of the food. The staff just seem really unorganized. Maybe they have gotten a new cook, but I prefer whoever made the food previously honestly. The care and attention to detail just isn't presented in the food that is made. I've tried on multiple occasions to just dismiss the quality as maybe just a one off but this is apparently the quality that is just prepared and presented from this location. Still LOVE Penn Station, guess I will just have to frequent a different location! read more

As a former employee I can say that Penn Station is a notch above the other sub shops. The ingredients really are fresh and your meal is made to order. Service is a focus and you can tell. I rarely visit a Penn Station and not feel welcomed. And the Philly... The classic steak sandwich with provolone is in the running for my most craved food. It's Penn station, and it's not bad. My order was pretty fast to come out for a Friday at lunch time. The only thing that sucks is the way they make you order and pay. You order from one person who rattles off all the optio s and unless you're used to it, it's a little intimidating. And as I waited to order, i watched people struggling with it. They like to kinda push you through the line. I don't mind waiting. I'd personally rather be able to take my time and order. But you're made to feel like you're in the way if you don't hurry, and that sucks because even though these are not "real" east coast subs, they are still really really good! So, if you can handle the soup Naziesque ordering routine, you're in for a delicious sammie. Since I'm more familiar with the lingo, I'll be back often. read more
