I've dealt with lots of contractors, and I am the go to phone call for my entire family and wife's family when there are problems or construction needs in the home. Penco is my first and only phone call for electricians, and I have dealt with lots before. OK Let me start by saying I live in Los Angeles. My mother in law is in Glenview, Il and was having some issues with some of her power intermittently going out and then she would have my brother in law come over and reset the breaker. I am pretty knowledgeable about home electric so I called around to get some estimates for her. I ended up speaking with Paul. They weren't the cheapest but they weren't the most expensive either. He didn't know my level of knowledge (I have wired multiple homes here and in Mexico) but he didn't try to BS me at all. He was straight forward on pricing and work. Anyway, they sent a tech out to my mother in laws and diagnosed a flaky breaker within the first ten minutes. I had asked for a call when they figured it out and Paul called me to tell me what the issue was. Since they had only been there about 15 minutes and there is a minimum billing time I figured I'd ask if the tech could install a dimmer for her dinning room table while he was there. The had a dimmer switch in the truck and installed it and only charged for the part. Maybe this is the norm for Chicago but we don't get that level of integrity her in CA. I'm glad to know I have someone I can call for issue at my mother in laws house. I wish I knew the techs name as my Mother in law said he was really nice (she is 89) but I never got it. read more

Justin was our main contact for a complete re-wire and fixture installation, new fuses/circuits for a two flat in the city. He gave us a wonderful deal and provided us with the work we asked for and more! I wouldn't go to anyone else -- even though their specialty is in generators. Penco did everything we requested and came out in a timely manner and blocked us for a week on their time schedule. They are prompt, clean, and effective as a team. Usually arriving from 8-8:30am until 3-4pm. Edgar was our main worker (came in and out most of the hours and work) and he did a fabulous job in keeping us posted and informed about what they were doing and when. He really works for this company and if I could give him 10 stars, I would. If you ever decide to get electrical work done, just clear a path for them to work, be cool people and move your personal items away so they can do their job. Obviously cutting holes in walls and directing and re-directing outlets is a must when and where you want them to be - so as clientele- be prepared for that. Even if you didn't want walls cuts, they really do their best to be minimally invasive because we have three newly painted and redecorated rooms, and they really respected the boundaries of our newly constructed area. Other than that we told them to have at it. AND.... Yes, they do pick up after themselves when they're done, I even offered to do it myself to help them keep going or leave early for their day but they truly insisted on leaving things the way they were when they came in. Another few guys that came in were Connor (sp) and Tony - very helpful and friendly group of guys - very knowledgeable and efficient. (Came in 2-3 days out of the 5) There was someone else that was like an apprentice - I believe Brian - a young guy fresh out of school type kid - he was like Edgar's sidekick - wasn't here the last day but if I had any say in his future employment, I'd say, teach him and keep him - definitely shows a lot of potential for this company. We have used Penco to service our standby generator for a few years and their attention to detail and thoroughness has been the best! But this weekend performance tops it all. We lost power and right away the generator kicked in. We called ComEd thinking it was a power outage. Long story short: no power outage and the generator was not malfunctioning. We were instructed by mpower to get an electrician. I was amazed that in two hours of calling Penco, they were here on a 92 degree day checking everything out. I have been trying to get an electrician to fix a small issue at my house for over a week now. I called a ton of places, most of these jokers never answer their phones. I left a ton of voicemails and got zero call backs. The couple people I talked to didn't know when they could come help me. Then I called Penco. Just called Penco for help with our thermostat wiring, and the person who answered (blanking ugh) was SO friendly, and SO helpful. Basically saved us money for someone from their company coming out and telling us the same exact thing he did on the phone, which is totally honest and legit in my opinion. I had the worst customer service experience with Penco. Use another company. There are many other options. The Penco owner, Paul, was nice while we were purchasing a full-house generator (because it is a large-ticket item that makes them a lot of money), but when it comes to customer service, he takes the side of rude, confrontational employees over the customer. We had two gas leaks after our generator was installed and reinstalled by Penco. The first, they admitted. It was their fault, and they supposedly fixed it. However, I continued to periodically smell gas from that location. I finally called, and one of their employees came out and could not see a leak but smelled a faint gas smell, and he told me to call Nicor to check. Nicor found a leak at the generator line underground. Penco then sent the same guy who fixed the first leak back out. He said he couldn't find anything, but miraculously after he spent a couple of hours at the generator, the leak was gone (but he says he didn't do anything but dig a hole). Nicor came back and confirmed there was now no leak. But the Penco technician said the leak was never there and said he didn't do anything to the line. He then accused me of not knowing what gas smells like ... even though Nicor confirmed there was a leak. Perhaps he was covering up a mistake he made the first time he came to fix the first leak and wanted to correct it and make it look like it was never there, or maybe whatever he did while digging the hole fixed the connection, I don't know. But I do know he lied and twisted the words of the Nicor employee right in front of me as he spoke to the Penco owner on the phone. But when I called the owner to tell him this, he was extremely defensive and rude rather than being apologetic and customer-focused. This is unacceptable. There are so many other companies who do this work, there's zero reason to suffer through this kind of treatment with Penco. read more

We got multiple bids and they were the most competitive in addition to their exceptional customer service. The installation was excellent and they went above and beyond to ensure that everything was done at 110%. During installation there were a couple minor issues, due to my house and no fault of theirs, and they went out of their way to make sure everything was done correctly even though it cost them some additional time and expense. We needed a very heavy ceiling fixture installed on a 12 foot high ceiling. Bill was referred by a friend in our grandson's school network. My wife made a couple of phone calls, set an appointment time and price. It was the end of the day and Bill was a little late getting to our "5'ish" appointment time, but when we called we were assured he'd be there shortly. When attaching the base of the fixture one of the screws started floating, meaning that it would be very hard for anyone to remove the fixture in the future. Before tightening everything, Bill removed the base and started again making sure it was done correctly. If you've decided that you need to keep Ur sump pump, fridge and some other appliance running during a power outage, then call Penco Electric to do the job. I have yet to find a team of trades work so well on a project. It took all day to complete the job, but they still had time to clean the area, review the unit operation and meet the village inspection to follow. Had too many estimates on a remodeling job in my basement everyone was giving me the run around and outrageous prices . I chose Penco because of the awesome reviews and I have to tell you they were awesome , on time , clean work , super job , great price . They wired my 20 new recessed lights and 13 outlets ,8 switches, plus new larger circuit breaker panel and cleaning up wiring by the panel that was bx and using conduit to clean up the area that was over 30 or 40 years of old wiring . Everyone didn't want to do the panel in my house because the pipe coming in from the meter needed to be moved over couple inches . Other companies were just coming in for an estimate and would not call back or they gave me a ridiculous price on purpose so I wouldn't call call them back not Penco they came in confident man unbelievable so happy I chose them . The first time we had no power after a winter storm and called about 5 electricians before finding Penco who was available to help us that day.
