Recently we moved into our new house (99 years old). We needed checks of existing power outlets, replacement of several ceiling fixtures (including some light/fan combos), replacement of outdated gfci outlets, update of incorrectly weird power outlets (neutral/ground messed up) etc. Hank from Current Electric did an outstanding job, did all the jobs we asked for and consulted us on all the little thins a 99 year old house requires to stay up to date. Met with an electrician for a consult regarding Tesla Charger installation on 2/8. I have a 200A main that also feeds two subpanels - one in garage and one in basement. I also have a NEMA 6-50 outlet installed on a 40A circuit in the garage subpanel. Electrician felt that garage subpanel would be overloaded (which is correct). However, he also insisted that code dictated the charger be fed via direct line to the main. That afternoon I spoke with the individual overseeing permits for my village and he confirmed that is not the case. When I bought this up to the electrician he said he'd reach out to the inspector. A few days went by so I called and was directed to send an e-mail. Electrician replied Monday morning that he was still waiting to hear back from the inspector. E-mailed back asking for a timeframe - no response. I called the office - office manager said to e-mail. Called the next day and left message with answering service to call back ASAP - no call back. Called the day after and spoke with same office manager - 'I'm sorry but everyone is out at a meeting so you're going to have to continue to wait.' 'Well I've been waiting a long time, is there someone else I can talk to?' 'No everyone is at the meeting.' 'Can I talk to the owner?' 'Maybe - he only comes in every so often, I can't guarantee when you'll hear back.' Today, Jim (president of the company) e-mailed me with the estimate for the electrician's original plans - no apology for the delay, no phone call to try to develop a rapport, no confirmation that the inspector had or had not been reached. Just 'here's the estimate.' It's clear the lack of customer service comes from the top. read more

Eric walked me through the Tesla wall charger and the scope of work, warning the pipe would have to be painted/covered to look good, and I agreed. I was quoted a couple weeks out, and a fair price compared to what other Tesla owners were charged by other contractors Their installers Movie and Even, came out on time, warned me about the cosmetic pipe issue a 2nd time, and finished earlier than promised. I was in need of an electrician, and got the referral from several friends/neighbors that unanimously recommended Current Electrical Contractors. The service - from scheduling an appointment, to requesting a swag hook that matched the color of my chandelier (they painted the hook to match the chandelier as best possible), to showing up with a friendly attitude - was excellent. I had the guys come out for two separate jobs: one, installation of a long chandelier, and two, replacing LED dimmers that weren't working with the chandeliers in place. Both jobs were completed successfully! They charge by the hour ($135), and it is more if you need more than one guy sent out (heavy chandelier installations). Current Electrical Contractors did an excellent job for us, below budget, on time, with smart, competent, conscientiously neat, and very personable staff, who offered advice, answered all of our questions, and left us with a house that is electrically sound for the 21st century. They replaced our 100-amp 75-year old panel with a 200 amp panel, which will accommodate future installation of an EV charger and a fully electric stove when desired. They logically re-organized and re-balanced our circuitry, with appropriate re-wiring as needed. They installed GFCI outlets wherever recommended by the electrical code. Our garage is now PHEV capable. Our kitchen now has dedicated circuits, and all outlets are GFCI. We had a mysterious kitchen exhaust fan with a mind of its own that had spontaneously only run twice in 32 years. We should have worried more about it, but we didn't. We thought it would need replacement, and that we better insure the soundness of its electrical wiring. Tom Rafferty, who ran our project, thought it might be revived if it got good electricity, and he persevered until he neutralized its bad wiring, and installed good wiring. And Tom was right. The fan motor turned out to be just fine, and now the fan runs like a jet engine. Very fun. Also fun are our closet lights, formerly activated by pull strings which broke years ago, which all activate by motion now. And the LED lighting in our formerly darkish-basement is now so bright that I think it will cure my SAD this winter. To summarize, we're very happy. 6 Weeks - No Quote My initial experience with Current Electric was good. I submitted an inquiry via their website and quickly received a call. I was able to schedule an at-home appointment for the following week in order to review the work required to provide a quote. This appointment took place on May 4th. The technician was both professional and knowledgeable. He offered helpful suggestions and I had a good impression of their services. This is where the experience completely deteriorated. It has now been over a month and a half since the technician came to my home. I have called multiple times requesting an update on my quote. Each time I have been given an apology and a promise to receive a quote by a specific date. Those dates have now come and gone four different times. As of today, nearly 7 weeks since my technician visit, I still have not received a quote. Based on the other reviews, my experience seems to be unique; however, I have given them multiple opportunities to provide the promised quote. Contacted Current Electricians to fix a recess lighting that wasn't working. Not only did this company send me a reminder they even sent me a picture of my technician that was coming out day of. Ovi (my technician) came out on time and was very professional. Ovi had a mask on the whole time and even put on shoe covers while in my home. After 5 mins Ovi had told me my dimmer was bad and had my recess lights fixed and working in 20 mins. Ovi went above and beyond to take his time and make sure he did a good job. He also had the consideration of me paying by the half hour so was quick but efficient. I highly recommend Tom as he was very honest of his assessment and even found some issues that my building needed to address which I passed along to the property management company. They took $40 worth of my property and did NOT install any light bulbs in my garage. Current electric is the subcontractor for Danley garage. They asked for 4 light bulbs for my new garage, I gave them 4 fancy LED bulbs however they did not install ANY of them. They then tried to sell me fancy bulbs for $25 ea. We used Current Electrical to do some jobs several months ago, our experiences with them were positive. Everyone from this company came across as polite and friendly. Dylan and Julian came on Halloween to change 6 light bulbs on our super high ceiling and install an electric mirror in one of our bathrooms. They did a good job and Julian was a dare devil who was absolutely fearless of height. However, when they worked on the jobs outdoors, they encountered one of the worst winter storms on Halloween day, and could not finish all the jobs (not their faults). I need to give a special shout-out to Andy, who came several days later to finish the job. Andy looked at an additional problem that I showed him outdoors (we didn't notice that before), and decided that we only need to replace a socket of one of the ground lights. He said he would bring it when he's in the area and replace that for us for free! Later I found out that the "mighty post" that Dylan and Julian installed had 2 broken plastic plates. Maybe they didn't see them as there was a bad winter storm when they were here. I emailed Don at Current, he immediately responded and promised to re-order the mighty post and would re-install for free. When Andy came with the post about a couple of weeks later, he was able to just replace the plates without digging out the post and replace that. I was pleasantly surprised that he still remembered the socket that he mentioned! He supplied and replaced that for free. I never used this service but called to request an assessment of unit's 2 bathrooms which were completely out of power. The person I spoke to suggested I try doing a power reset as he's seen this fix power issues in older units. I never thought about this since the entire power was out (not just the outlets). Lo and behold it worked and he saved me at least $100. He could've easily come out knowing it would probably take just a few minutes to mix and this would've been easy money for him. I didn't have much flexibility in my schedule but still got an appointment within a week or so of calling, which was great because I had already put the project off for too long.
