The Lamp Shader has you "covered!" I had an amazing experience there. I needed to replace a custom lamp shade that had been stained, and I walked out with a beautiful replacement the same day! They had all of the adaptors and finials to make it possible to replace my what I thought was a hard-to-fit shade with a new one from the extensive inventory in their showroom. Thank you for sending me home with a new (clean!) lamp shade that makes me so happy. It was a super-fun place to shop, conveniently located in Glenview on Waukegan near all of the fun stores. I'm now thinking I'll be bringing in some of my older lamp shades for a newer, fresher The Lamp Shader upgrade! read more

After a long time looking at my ill fitting lampshades I started the arduous task of looking for replacement shades, online, in numerous stores to no avail... then I remembered The Lamp Shader... I went over and within 20mins I had two possible shades with suitable fittings and told to take home and try them. The friendliest customer service and a genuine "aim to please and help" attitude made the whole process so easy and pleasant. Got home and the shades couldn't be more perfect! I went to The Lamp Shader yesterday and was beyond pleased with the service. Jamie was delightful to work with and because I was indecisive she let me take three shades home, on consignment, to try on my floor lamp. Decision was made after my visual at home. I was need of a lamp shade for an over 60 year old lamp. The lamp was my mother's and my daughter wants to use it. It requires a harp shade and the big box stores did not have one that fit . The lady , who has worked in the lamp business for 45 years, knew her business. She changed out the harp to better align with the lamp shade. She was patient with me as I sent pictures to my daughter to decide which shade she wanted. Walking in was taking a step back in time of a small business, who knows their stuff. read more

My lamp shades had discolored with age and needed replacement. I found several sources online, but actually wanted to see the merchandise first hand. After reading the reviews for The Lamp Shader, I decided to give them a call this afternoon. Initially I wasn't sure what to expect after being advised to bring the lamp and shade into the store. That turned out to be a great idea because it allowed me to see how the various types of lamp shades would look on the actual lamp. Judy was very knowledgeable and helpful. While I was an electrician for 32 years, I dealt with predominately industrial lighting and not delicate decorative lamps and shades. I found the shop keepers very interesting and informative regarding this type of lighting. Within a half hour or so, I made my selection and was very happy with the finished look. It was slightly different than the Stiffel lamp shade I was replacing. I had found an exact match online, which was slightly more expensive than the items being shown at the Lamp Shader. So the cost of the lamp shade was competitive. The best part though was helping a small business in the Greater Chicagoland area. There is no substitution for the great customer service and individual attention that I received during my visit to the Lamp Shader. The store is just off of Waukegan Road and has their own parking lot and back entry, a big plus if you choose to bring in your lamp. The store itself has great curb appeal. read more

I went to the lamp shader to replace two old lamp shades. I left with two perfect lamp shade replacements that look better than the ones I replaced. I also found a beautiful table lamp that was perfect for our space - but it looks 1000% better with a different shade. The owner, Jamie Plunkett, was a delight to work with! She was able to sort through her impressive inventory to get us lamp shades that work perfectly for each of our lamps! She was also helpful in replacing harps and adding extenders where necessary to achieve the perfect height and balance. The experience was extremely educational - I never knew how many ways lamp shades could be adjusted for a perfect look! I was very happy to be able to buy local, have an extremely satisfactory interpersonal experience, and obtain results that really look good in our home! read more

To be fair, I want to preface this review by noting that other reviewers indicate a high level of quality and professionalism in work completed by The Lamp Shader. Unfortunately, I never got that far. A week ago, I phoned with the intention of inquiring about the possibility of having three custom lampshades created with fabrics I had chosen. I had an initial glitch with my blue tooth device, which clearly annoyed the woman who answered my call. As I attempted to begin a conversation about my projects, I was abruptly cut off, told by the woman that she was with a customer, and was curtly asked to provide my name and phone number, which I did. The woman's lack of courtesy led me to suspect that she would not return my call. I was right. I never expected to be treated with such rudeness, and although I was initially excited to work with The Lamp Shader on my projects, I can say with all sincerity that I will NEVER call there again! read more

Visited The Lamp Shader today in search of the perfect topper for my vintage lamp. I was so thrilled with the selection offered and with the assistance from Jaime who helped us see four or five different options before making a decision. I've learned that Jamie was in design for many years at a store in Lombard, and she certainly shows her expertise when helping us choose the perfect hat for our lamp! So few stores remain that care enough and also give you so many choices! Look no further than the The Lamp Shader you will definitely find what you're looking for and also pick up the perfect finial!! read more

Who would think there is a store, or should I say a house, that is FULL of Lamp Shades. What an experience and don't you think the Lamp Shade I purchased looks great? :) Linda was such a great help when my mom and I stopped in to see what the Lamp Shader was all about. We were looking for a nice lamp shade for a lamp I already purchased and loved. Linda found a lamp shade for us and let us try it at home. We ended up going with the lamp shade Linda suggested in a larger size and it fits my living room perfectly and I just love it. Now the store is not easy to navigate through as there are lamps or lampshades everywhere, all nicely organized. I suggest parking in back and entering through the back, easier especially if you are older as it is an easier access than the front. Thanks Linda! Thanks Lamp Shader, I love my lamp shade. read more

Excellent service & value. Living in Chicago and looking for a lamp repair place that doesn't look "shady" (no pun intended!) is a daunting task in the Chicago area. Called The Lamp Shader in Glenview about our floor lamp not working correctly and said to bring it right in. Got there and they said they could fix it while I waited (technician was on site). In less than an hour they had it operable and back in my car. Reasonable price as well. Highly recommend. read more

This is the shop for quality lampshades and for unusual and one of a kind shades as well as lamp hardware. The owner is excellent. She can guide your choices better than you can. It is worth the drive to glenview and worth the price for the shades. You can't find a better source for good shades. It's a dying art. read more

I took 2 vintage murano glass lamps for harps, shades and finials and found the perfect compliments to my lamps. Don was knowledgeable and guided me to the perfect match for both lamps. He was professional, knowing just where to find each component, which particular size would work best, while showing me a couple options, and could not have done more. Truly a fabulous place for all your lighting needs. read more

If you need a lamp shade this is "The Place" humongous selection of shades in all sizes, shapes and several colors. Very helpful sales people. If at all possible, bring your lamp with you to the store, so they can really show what it will look like. Last year I was desperate to find a lamp shade, and a friend suggested I go to the Lamp Shader. It was a totally amazing place, since all they sell are lamp shades. I was surprised at how much they were asking for their product, yet I just wanted to find a shade already, so I bought a shade for my lamp. When I got home put the shade on my lamp and decided I didn't like it, so I went the next day to return it. That's when I learned of their NO RETURN policy. They did agree to let me exchange it for something else, yet told me to come back a third time with the lamp so I could try it on at the store. The socket of my lamp got damaged during transporting my lamp, and the man who owns the store told me no problem, he'd fix it. I found another lamp shade, which cost a little more then the original shade. I figured I already invested so much money, that I might as well spend the additional $20.00. When I was paying for my shade, the store added another $25.00 to repair the socket. I should have asked if there was going to be a charge, but didn't I could have done the repair myself for about $5.00. When I left the store I headed over to The Home Goods Store. Go figure I found one I liked even better for about $15.00. I bought and it's been on my lamp ever since. The shade I spent over $100.00 for is wrapped up sitting in storage. I knew I couldn't return it. I learned my lesson and hope I can prevent this mess from happening to someone else. read more

Had a great experience this week. I stopped in to browse for replacements for some older shades. Wow! Today I visited The Lamp Shader for the first time because I needed a shade/harp/finial to go on a vintage floor lamp I purchased at an estate sale. Don helped me find the perfect shade and spent a lot of time showing me all of the options for shades and finials. He also took great care in figuring out what the height of the harp should be so that the right amount of the "candle" is exposed. I appreciate the attention to detail and can't say enough about their friendly service and expertise. I will definitely be back and recommend their shop to anyone who needs anything lamp related. read more

If you ever need a new lamp, lamp shade, or make a vase into a lamp, The Lamp Shader is THE place to visit. No matter what size shade you need, they will have it. They also have all the correct parts to replace on the lamp so the shade fits correctly. I had an antique, hand painted porcelain vase that Don transformed into a magnificent table lamp. Recently I stopped in there and bought new shades for antique venetian glass lamps that were in need of shades. They fit them up with new harps and shades. You will not be disappointed with the selection and help you will receive from the staff. The Lamp Shader is your one stop shop in the North Shore! read more

I can't say enough good things about this store! The customer service is always top notch! Each and every person I have worked with over the years has been so helpful. I never knew how much a lamp could transform a room. Along with pillows, I find lamps to be the "jewelry" of the room. Today I went in to get lamp shades for some lamps I bought online. The owner, Don and two of his colleagues took their time showing me various lamp shades. Once again, the lamp looks perfect!
