When we…read morefound out that we were going to be back in Rockaway, I reached out to Dr. Mini to see if she had any availability because Sierra was in desperate need of some dental care (immediately!) What I received was a quick response (via text) and I actually thought I was talking to a receptionist. What I didn't realize was that I was talking (texting) with Dr. Mini, herself, even though she was ON VACATION! She did an amazing job on Sierra's teeth and I would definitely recommend her (and even give her more stars if I could!!)

I stumbled on happy paws on google/facebook and I really wish another vet had an opening and was able to come to our home. From the second I spoke to Dr Mink I felt rushed. I initially called her around 12/1pm to ask if she had an opening and she did from 6-8pm that she can be here.. I tried to call her back to confirm but she said she was in a house call and she'll call me back.. call back never happened.. turned into just a text exchange confirming she can come between 6-8pm. When she got here at 6:30 all we wanted was 10 extra minutes with our girl.. she made it seem like I was asking for an hour and said she can give us 5 minutes as she has another appointment right after.. I already got annoyed at this comment right from the beginning. When she came in first thing she asked for was payment.. no asking of what our girls name was, how old she was, what was going on.. nothing.. zero sympathy.. went straight for payment and then straight to almost giving her the first shot to put our baby to sleep.. she then gave us maybe 5 minutes and went straight to shaving her paw and putting in the IV line.. After our girl was gone the Dr gave us zero information about cremation.. all I got was can you pickup her ashes in Clifton? That's it.. no name of the company nothing.. we were also in total shock still so even asking these questions then completely went over my mind. I had to text her the next day asking when we can pickup her ashes and when they will be ready.. all I got was an excuse saying she sent the information already but the text didn't go through so she will resend them. In the end we picked up our girls ashes and paw prints on Tuesday, all no thanks to the Dr, I called the cremation place myself and was told everything was ready for pickup. I just hope this review helps others.. we were going through one of the worst days with our girl and looking back at all the things that happened I really wish we went with someone else.

We had some concerns and a lot of questions which Dr. Kuo addressed and thoroughly explained. She spent a lot of time with us and reached out to us the next day with some of the results that had come in. We got a text asking if our dog was okay and how we found everything at the office. You can't get better service than that. Yes, it was more costly than a regular visit but we knew that going in, we chose the holistic approach and we expected it to be a high bill. The office staff printed us an estimate so that we could look it over before anything was done. We go to great lengths to care for our boy with his food, his treats etc. so this made sense to us. I will definitely use Dr. Kuo again. We like her and so does our boy.

Dr Kuo did try to push both, as well us ultrasound, numerous tests, acupuncture, just about everything. I made it totally clear that if I was going to go conventional, it would be with my regular vet. When my dog had the first blood test, I was unaware of what levels would indicate her disease was severe, and holistic treatment would not be the right approach. I would do anything for my dog. After her first test result, I received emails from the doctor. She did not call me, nor would she get on the phone to talk to me. I just assumed she was too busy. I stayed on the treatment for 4 months, and again had blood tests, total cost 862, with 3 supplements. At this point, her blood results did not change. I wanted to talk about options. Dr Kuo sent me a lot of information via email, I'm not a vet, some waa very confusing. I asked numerous times to have a conversation to discuss my dog's next options and was denied. I was told she does not speak about results. I have never had a vet, not call me to discuss my dog's results and the best option. My dog has a disease and I wanted to speak with the vet. In her email, she asked me the same questions that we covered on our first visit, things she should have known. She also offered me a tela medical call to discuss next options, but it would cost over a hundred dollars for twenty minutes. Needless to say, I am going to try conventional with my vet. Of course, I wanted to try holistic, but I left it up to her, to explain when it should be used. This is all my opinion and based on my experience. Everything I have said is based on my opinion. I forgot to add the supplements, I made it clear that I would use petmeds, but when petmeds sent the approval to the vet, I was told they were to busy to approve. They tried to push me to another prescription page. My dog needed her supplements, I asked them to just approve it. They were too busy but had the time to send me numerous emails, rather than just approving it with petmeds, which would have taken seconds. It was very stressful, to the point, that I just paid more to get through them.

Although I am a physician I am not familiar with this procedure in canines, but apparently open incisions are used to cut into the bladder for stone removal. My. Baby girl was discharged in howling pain, which was traumatic for my sister who had retrieved her. She had to return her to demand appropriate pain management for the dog as she was only given gabapentin and Rimadyl (doggie Advil). Even women who have cesarean sections are given strong analgesia for at least 3 days postoperatively. My baby suffered for days. I called the office the following day to get information regarding her diet going forward, as bladder stones can definitely recur. Not only was I not given any information, but I was merely switched to another person who just asked for my financials to make payment for the "extra (much needed) meds." I was given a generic receipt, so my insurance denied the payment, and I was NEVER given the invoice for the surgery, which was almost 3k and paid in full up front. I sent an email requesting the invoice, and to date they refused to respond, so I will not be able to submit for the reimbursement. When my son called the office he was told that they "didn't know" about the insurance- even though it is on file. Although they claim they will submit, I don't have much faith that they will. Further, why was this not handled from the beginning before they tortured my baby? If a human patient is treated this way there are patient advocates & lawyers promptly involved. I guess things are different in Veterinary Medicine.... But animals deserve compassionate care, too. Some people love their pets more than their spouses. In addition, pet parents should be counseled regarding the operative course, what to expect, and how to manage their pets post-operatively at home. My family, and especially my dog, were traumatized by this experience. This vet got good reviews on Yelp for some reason; maybe they are acceptable for routine well care visits and minor illnesses. But if you have a pet with serious illness or require invasive or surgical intervention I encourage you to seek another Veterinary practice.

But today Dr. Povol and Mammas saved my boy's life. It started last night when WWD (world's worst dog) found a hole into the crawl space under the deck and came out with a rib bone from God only knows where or when. After a protracted tug of war this 3 legged brat looked me right in the eye, yanked his head so I lost my grip and gave a cartoonish GULP and swallowed that bone. Efforts to make him vomit from hydrogen peroxide were a threat to my life and limbs so we trekked off to VEG urgent care in Millburn at 11 pm. They were super nice and got him to vomit up a whole can of food but the bone stayed stuck in his stomach. After much discussion I chose to bring him home for the night because if he did need surgery I knew it would be twice as expensive at an ER facility. I called Dr. Povol at 8 am and they got us right in; 2 hours later Able was in surgery. The whole staff has been exceptionally kind and thorough, keeping me posted throughout the day and calling to check in once I got Able home. The surgery was about $2800 total which I know from experience is more than fair. He's got a belly full of sutures and is sleeping it off but he will be just fine, soon to continue his reign of terror. From last year: I'm on an extended visit with my family in Bayonne and one of my dogs got an eye infection. I've lived in Los Angeles for 25 years where we have truly human-grade medical care for pets so I wasn't sure what to expect in Bayonne. Wow was I impressed. This is a wonderful hospital. We got a same-day appointment which was really nice of them because they were busy. Every single staff member was kind and courteous and caring and professional. Once we got into the exam room we had to wait about 20 minutes and the super-nice tech came in to apologize and explain they'd had an emergency. I certainly understood and didn't care, but not every place bothers to explain what's going on. Dr. Povol came in and I loved him. He was incredibly thorough, explained everything. I saw another review where he was described as no-nonsense and I'd basically agree but he's kind and was laughing at the ridiculous histrionics of my other dog who was crying because he wasn't getting all the attention (!). I will absolutely return, my other dog can get cold laser treatments on his back and needs a dental. On top of everything else, the bill was a fraction of what I would pay in LA or at other hospitals around here. They even have their own garage for parking! Worth every penny and I recommend this hospital with 5 glowing stars. I came here because of the great reviews; there were some negative ones on Yelp that were from 2-4 years ago and they DO NOT reflect the experience I had. You will always find someone who had a terrible experience and write a review. Most times when people are happy they just go about their business, but when people are upset they are quick to post a review. I TOTALLY recommend this hospital.
