I just want to write a review for Claudia. My daughter's luggage was lost and she was without vision (contacts) and alone in Chicago for work, from California. Claudia got her prescription and put together a care package of 7 days of samples for her. She was at a conference, and she prepared the package for a courier to pick up her name on it and everything. She thinks she's some sort of fashionista and should guide your choices of frame, to the point of being rude, but she's this tacky leopard skin-wearing middle-aged broad who really should not be offering opinions along those lines. I have been returning to Pelini Eyecare for 7 years, even though I now live in DC. About once a year I see either Dr. Pelini or Dr. Phu - they are both caring, thorough medical professionals who do not push services, medication, solutions to unexisting problems. The staff is friendly and prepared with the medical insurance quotes by the time you get to the office. Everyone in the office is helpful in providing opinions on which frames look good on you (and match your personality), which is great when you are debating between 2-3 options. The selection of frames and sunglasses they carry is comprehensive, so you will find at least a couple of frames you'll want. For the health of my eyes I will continue to choose this practice as long as they're in business (for decades to come, I hope) read more

While I wrote a review back in 2014, I thought it was important to write a follow-up now four years later as services and experiences often change over time. Pelini Eyecare still gets a solid 5 stars in my book. The total experience is outstanding - from Dr. Pelini's professionalism and generosity with her time, to the balance of her staff and their attentiveness during your visit. When I needed new glasses/frames ( they gave me some gentle coaching that I was 20 years behind style wise with my current frames!) they were extremely patient and helped me pick out two pairs that are both fashionable and professional looking. I am new to the city and had to find someone by looking at lists and making comparisons as best possible. I found several places that were "boutique" but not close to me. That's how i got to Pelini. Other I am in agreement with your other reviewers, thorough exam, and a generous and thoughtful staff. I found Silhouette frames some other shops often don't carry because they want to sell their brands. Many insurance companies only want to reimburse the mass frame producers. They take insurance for everything. Highly recommend and down the street from The Art Institute and the school. Fab location for me. read more

My initial experience with Silvia Pelini Optometry was great, but when I tried to use my prescription for contact lenses I found that they wouldn't honor it, even though it was still good for two more days. Maybe I'm missing something here, but a date is a date. If a prescription is valid for one year (and the date is clearly marked on the prescription), then the OD should honor it when they are called to confirm. If it's only good for "one year minus two days", then PUT THAT ON THE PRESCRIPTION. When I called to complain, they left me on hold for 15 minutes and didn't bother calling me back, even though they have my number on file. Poor customer service and unprofessional behavior. I won't be going back. read more

It was our first time to see Dr. Pelini for our eye check up. We waited for just a few minutes. But when it was our turn. It was nice of her to have us together in the routine eye exam room. Check up for the two of us was great. Although, I had to wear eyeglasses. Told Dr. Pelini that I started using reading glasses since I reached my 40's. I can't even read in my cellphone anymore without wearing my reading glasses. Dr. Pelini told me that what I was experiencing with my eyesight was just normal with age. After doing the routine exam, I found out that my right eye is worst than my left eye. Didn't know that two of our eyes may have different strength in vision. Just learned that after my eye exam that my right eye has a strength of +1.25 and my left is just a +1. Dawn, who is Dr. Pelini's assistant was the BEST! She was very patient when I was choosing among their selections. She was also giving me her honest opinion as to which one looks great on me while also respecting what I want. Ended up choosing a metal frame. It took more than two weeks for me to get my glasses. But I guess, it's alright because progressive glasses are probably hard to do. Plus, I also ordered a special color of the frame I liked. After getting my progressive glasses. It was really hard to get used to it. First, the metal frame was too tight and then the glasses seem to be blurry especially the right side. I called to inform them about this and Dawn, was very helpful and assured me it was okay for me to return my glasses so they can fix the problem. She also said that they want me to be happy with it. Felt relieved, because I was too shy to come back. But my husband also told me that it's better to tell them my problem with the glasses because I woill be wearing it for a long long time. When I returned it, Dr. Pelini checked me again and found out that the right side of my eye increased it's strength to +1.50. Wow! I was surprised. They had to return my glasses to the lab and they called after a week and a half that my glasses are ready for pick up. Dawn, helped me fit my glasses and she made sure it was in the center and that it's not pinching my sides. My glasses this second time around was PERFECT! My eyesight wasn't blurry anymore and I was so happy I can read in my cellphone now. I now have something I can use on a regular basis without being annoyed by my reading glasses. Thank you so much to Dr. Pelini and her staff most especially to Dawn, who's so sweet! Hope We still see you again when we have our annual check. You guys made my experience worth it! On a trip to Chicago this week, the arm fell off of my glasses! As these are my everyday glasses (trifocals, in fact), I was panicked to find a place to get them fixed. I searched for eye care places near me and saw that Pelini Eyecare was close, and open. I popped in and Dr. Pelini took care of the problem pronto, and at no charge! She's delightful and professional and offers some of the most cool frames I've seen in awhile. Side note: I learned Silvia is a Chicago native who'd lived in Thornton, CO for quite some time and recently moved back to her hometown. I've seen Dr. Pelini several times now. She's very nice and is very thorough with her eye exams. The last time I visited, Dr. Pelini was very helpful in trying to get me into better, more economical contacts. Every time I go in for an exam Dr. Pelini is booked solid and I often have to wait a bit to get in, even with an appointment. Other than that, I've been very satisfied. I am thrilled with the outcome of my contact lens fitting appointments with Dr. Pelini. I have finicky eyes and have been frustrated, uncomfortable and unable to see many times in my life with both gas permeable and custom toric lenses. The solid Yelp reviews convinced me to try Pelini Eyecare. Trust! More times than not, measurements and logic don't equate to adequate comfort or vision correction for my eyes, which can be frustrating and time consuming. Compared to my previous two doctors (all of whom treated me well), Dr. Pelini acted like my eyes were a breeze... that contrast initially made me anxious and doubtful about her ability. I had no reason to worry, though, because after some trial and error and creative thinking, Dr. Pelini knocked it out of the park. I only went for the lens fitting, but I am sure Dr. Pelini is more than proficient in medical exams: She was intent on getting me into monthly lenses (my first!) with a high oxygen permeability that I could wear for more than my minimal requirements of "anything I can comfortably work out and go to bars in" -- I can actually wear these in front of the computer for a few hours. She also gave me a sample of hydrogen peroxide cleaner for better cleaning than just regular solution. I'm now wearing the most comfortable lenses yet, and I'm confident that they are clean, healthy and that I'm not breaking the bank or out of stock if I lose/rip a lens. I just wore my contacts to a movie theater for the first time in about five years, and I was so pleased that I didn't miss a bit of the action due to dry eyes or drifting lenses! As for the office itself, Danny and Margie are patient and kind. Danny picks some really fun frames and is happy to opine on them, so I look forward to eventually replacing my glasses here, too. Dr. Pelini did have to reschedule one of my appointments on one occasion, but they have been overall quite accommodating of my schedule, so it evens out. The affordability of my lenses shocked me compared to my previous office, so much so that I repeatedly asked desk staff if they were making errors on or misunderstanding the order. The lenses also arrived so quickly that I took longer to pick them up than they took to come in. Definitely go here! read more

My experience with Pelini Eyecare was nothing but perfection due to amazingly accommodating service and excellent care and expertise. I lost my contact lens and needed a quick exam and replacement lenses (so I wouldn't be forced to wear my out of date glasses). My previous optometrist could not fit me in until 8 days later so I called Pelini to see if they could help. They were not only able to fit me in for an early appointment the next morning with Dr. Phu when I explained the urgency, but also were nice enough to give me a free pair of soft lenses to get through my wedding that weekend while I waited for my gas permeable lenses to be made and shipped. Trimane is quite possibly the best office manager I've ever worked with at any medical practice and the rest of the staff is phenomenal as well. You truly feel like everyone in the practice remembers you and knows you personally as soon as you walk in or give them a call. When my lenses arrived, I was called immediately and came by for a fitting. One of the lenses did not fit great, and after trying it out for a few days, they happily made me an appointment to come back in so Dr. Phu could take a look. I left that lens with them and they ordered a different lens that arrived a week later and is a perfect fit. Dr. Phu and Dr. Pelini both are clear experts in their field and also take the time to listen to their patients and make sure everything is perfect before they send you on their way. I've never had to wait more than 30 seconds at an appointment before being seen by the doctor. Pelini Eyecare is truly there to make the process as easy and smooth for the patient as possible. They also accept most vision plans. I will gladly continue to use Dr. Pelini and Dr. Phu for all my future optical needs and recommend them without question. read more

I was able to see Dr. Pelini on short notice after noticing a grey spot in my left eye. The staff was very accommodating upon my arrival and Dr. Pelini was descriptive when walking through each test. She noticed a ring within my retina and gave the all clear on any major problems and referred me to see a retina specialist for further diagnosis. For a number of reasons, I had some problems getting in to see a retina specialist within my health plan. Dr. Pelini reviewed my health insurance and called my primary physician's office to clear up any confusion and get me an appointment within a few days. Health insurance is confusing enough so I was glad to have Dr. Pelini on my side. read more

Okay, where do I start........... This review is waaaaaay overdue, as I've been a patient of Dr. Pelini for 3yrs. Customer service is clearly their main priority. My recent visit was nothing short of amazing. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with hugs from T and Marjorie. The office is so warm and inviting and the staff is knowledgeable. Before seeing the doctor, I tried on a few frames......and none really popped. That is, until 'T' stepped in. She picked a frame that fit my face and personality perfectly! This was my first visit to Pelini Eyecare. Dr. Pelini was my doctor. This was a "by appointment" weekend visit. I was seen at my appointed time, and the exam was efficiently quick without being rushed. No "puff of air" machine, she uses a different method for glaucoma test. The selection of glasses was more than adequate. I selected down to 2 pairs that I liked very much, and the staff advice helped me to disqualify one of them. I'll be going back for any future appointment. The only change I would make would be that I would take a weekday appointment, as the weekend trains were very awkward.
