Was on a visit to my old home town. Decided to eat at this Chinese restaurant. When I got there, there was a man waiting in this stark waiting area. When we walked in the owner didn't say hi or can I help you. He looked at us like we were bothering him. The place is filled with painting plastic tarps. It's got cheap frames and a plexiglass wall with a square cut out. In a sense it's like you are in a construction site. The restaurant is cordoned off inside. You can see the tables and desk behind the makeshift plastic walls. When the waiting man's food was ready, the man behind the plexiglass practically plopped it out of the opening. I was looking away and the noise startled me. I couldn't believe the guy picking up the food actually paid for it with that kind of rudeness. I wrote it off as a possible accidental drop. I asked him for a menu. He didn't hand it to me... as I reached for it... he dropped it. Never said sorry or even ooops. The paper menu had scribble price increases. A sloppy mess. Since we were visiting and looking to sit down, I asked him how come you can't sit down? And his response.. I only want take out. Go up the street if you want to sit down. Then he kept saying it... with angrier tones. At first I thought he was kidding. But I looked at my wife and her face was stunned too. So I walked out with my 40 bucks and spent 18 dollars down the street and saved 22 dollars. This is an example of being the only Chinese restaurant in a town. Obviously, he's cornered the market for a lot of years. Being thankful for having customers was long ago lost. If someone decided to open a sit down Chinese restaurant in town... they'd clean up and put this wise guy out of business. Avoid this ungrateful rude man and his stark ugly restaurant. If you have ever gone into a mediocre restaurant and the server is excellent, then they just changed your experience from so-so to GREAT! If you've gone into a beautiful restaurant and expect a a great meal and the server is nasty, they just turned an excellent experience into a poor experience. If you go into a sloppy disgusting place, and the server is a complete moron, why would you even waste your time? The food isn't anything to write mom about and money doesn't grow on trees. Just because he has the only Chinese restaurant in town, doesn't mean you have to put up with a horrible place with a nasty environment and a rude seller who will practically throw your food at you...This person and his business does not deserve your hard earned money. read more

The Chinese Restaurant in town!!! As the token Asian woman in this tiny upstate ny town I absolutely LOVE their food. You will not find a better Chinese restaurant until you reach New York City. I highly recommend their Crab Rangoon, Chicken and Broccoli, Beef Noodles are all to die for. While we were waiting this woman parked her truck walked in with all the confidence in the world and said "BEST CHINESE PERIOD!" I could NOT agree more- I was honestly surprised that they made me think of my home. Good Chinese food is so hard to come by! Plus with all the xenophobia going on during the pandemic - we need to support all small businesses especially Asian restaurants! Won't be going back , and won't be recommending this business. The issue here is 100% the food. It's not bad really but just not good either. Especially not deserving of 4 stars. After hearing from a friend that the food here is "amazing - compared to other Chinese places" - I gave it a try. I haven't lived in the area for long so I can't speak on other places. As others have said, avoid judging this place by its cover. I was a little thrown off by the interior design, but most people seem to come here for takeout anyway. There were also no chopsticks which was a little odd. Pro tip: My friends and I ordered, went to the Brewery a block down, and came back 20 minutes later to pick up our food. My friends seemed to enjoy their food but maybe I'm a little picky. I ordered orange chicken and white rice. I got pork fried rice instead and I don't like pork, so I picked around it. The chicken was a little too soft which was kind of a turn off for me. The sauce on it was pretty good, however. I also wish there was more broccoli. The egg rolls were definitely fried for a long time - they were pretty greasy - but they were decent. This restaurant has become a go to. The food is fresh, tasty and quick. It's definitely a take out place, no where really to dine in and there is no atmosphere for dining in. We regularly order the veggie egg rolls, Kung Pao Chicken, and Moo Shu. The pieces of chicken are big and all white meat. The veggies are fresh and crispy. An updated review for the only Chinese take out restaurant in the vicinity which, because of the young lady running the phone and front counter that night, maintained its upper star rating. It's nice to be recognized and remembered, and she was perceptive enough to recall that we have ordered veggie dishes, tofu, sometimes shrimp...and NEVER meat stuff. Let me back up a bit. There's a guy there, let's assume that he's simply an employee (but who knows, he could be the owner). He's got a pretty gruff disposition and hurries through any sort of discussion or question about their food. I asked if the hot and sour soup was made with chicken broth or vegetable broth. After a moment he said that it was made only with water. Yes, he said water. Bizarrely, we locked eyes and, after I asked again...he said it's only water. So, I ordered a large one. Well, when we came back to pick up the order, the lady saw us and asked us what we ordered. After hearing our order, she informed us that the soup is made with pork and chicken broth. Quickly she apologized, whisked the bag away and said they will prepare it with only vegetable stuff for us. That, my culinary critics, is just beautiful. She single handedly rescued our opinion of their establishment because she's perceptive and cares. The other fella, on the other hand, didn't care a bit. Pings vegetarian dishes and chicken chow mein are quite good. Service is rushed and gruff as a previous reviewer stated. What I can't get passed is it's non-cleanliness. When I walk in I smell insecticide. No wonder as the tables are rarely bussed. Dirty plates with leftover food and dirty napkins are a common sight. Never again. We went in and ordered. He said $25. I told him it's not right. He argued and said it was. Again I said it's not. He tells me to add it up. I did and it was close but not right. We get our food and the egg roll and wontons and sauce all at the same time. You always get the wontons and sauce before your meal. I ordered Szechwan shrimp. I guess I should've not argued as they made it so spicy I couldn't eat it. I've had it there 4 times before and it was never like this. Also, when we came in 3 tables were filled with dirty plates which after awhile he picked up but i never seen him wipe the tables off. Well my meal sucked and I just ate the shrimp wiping off the sauce and a few vegetables. When I come home I have their menu. Sure enough he screwed me. It should have been $23.44 not $25. I hope screwing me out of $1.56 was worth losing 2 customers. The bottle of Dr Pepper was good though but not good enough to go back there. Don't waste your time. This business has survived through floods like 2 major ones that were declared Federal Emergency NO business deserve to go through especially when your not even in a flood zone. Everything destroyed and started all over again with not any federal money , Everything out of his own pocket. He is young and has a big family to support. He has been in business for more than 25 yrs and has the best Chinese food around always fresh and delicious.He does a huge take out business,and everyone in town loves them and than Covid 19 he had to shut down and that was another big hit.They purchased and own the building and pays outrageous taxes. This is the best Chinese restaurant in the county. When they relaunched after covid panic the food was even more flavorful which was SO amazing. A little less flavor at times since being open again for awhile, and too much oil once in awhile, but it's still the best Chinese food I have had. Would like to see their consistency improve in these ways, I give 5 stars because overall it's way better than any other Chinese eatery. They deal with high volume quite well while being kind and polite to customers. Not everyone can do this when they are busy and uncomfortable in the heat of a kitchen. Ok- so this is definitely one of those places where you can't "judge a book by its cover" . We came back from Howe Cavern and decided to take a chance. We had BBQ spare ribs, egg rolls, roast pork fried rice, beef and broccoli , orange chicken and egg foo young. Like the other reviewer said, food is not at all greasy. The beef and broccoli was tender and tasty. The orange chicken yummy. The BBQ ribs nicely coated and very good. We also had the fried dumplings and the crispy noodles that you dip in duck sauce delice!! This place is great! We had the dumplings, chicken with broccoli, General Tso's chicken, chicken lo mein, hot and sour soup, wonton soup and pork fried rice. Everything was great! Their food is better than the ones in my mom's 'hood in Queens. My one wish is that the General Tso's chicken and hot & sour would be spicy, but given the locale and folks eating there, it's not surprising that their "spicy" items are pretty sweet.
