Sushi - Octopus (Tako) and Yellowtail (Buri or Hamachi)

Review for sushi - I've found it to be a dependable place to get takeout and one of the few restaurants to offer uni on a regular basis. Uni (sea urchin gonads...that's a tough sell) can be sublime or they can be horrendous. It doesn't hurt to ask when the restaurant receives its seafood deliveries. Sake Bon's aesthetic, vibe and online ordering system are typical of a regular sushi/hibachi restaurant. What seemed out of the ordinary was when an employee called me no less than 5 minutes after placing an online order to inform me they ran out of one specific item. They apologized for the inconvenience and asked if I wanted to either substitute the item or have the cost refunded to my credit card. Nice customer service. Dependable and efficient; the sushi's good, too.

My DH and I spent the afternoon at Maybee Farms in Rotterdam Junction for an enjoyable afternoon of music. Looking through my Yelp app to see what restaurant was close by and open for an early dinner. I found Sake Bon which was highly recommended on Yelp and by my hairdresser. The restaurant is located in a small mini-mall in Schenectady. On the outside you wouldn't expect such a pretty place. It was only 5:30 in the afternoon so it was not busy at all. Inside were 3 very nicely decorated rooms one with hibachi tables one with sushi tables and bar area and one with regular dinner tables. We walked in and were greeted by a very nice server who asked us if we wanted a hibachi table where they cook right in front of you or a regular table. We chose a regular table as we were not with a larger group and the hibachi tables held seating for eight. Will definitely have to try that when we go with a group. Would be great fun when they cook right in front of you... Went to a place in Disney Epcot, Japan that did the same thing. I ordered a Mango Margarita which was quite potent and delicious and my DH ordered Tsingtao Beer which he enjoys every time we go to an Asian restaurant. As we were ready to eat our server took our order for dinner. I ordered Thai Mango Chicken $16 which was deliciously sweet with ripe mangos and tender chicken and also included Miso soup, salad dressed with creamy dressing and white rice. DH had Stir Fried Pad Thai $13, rice noodles stir-fried with egg, ground peanut, bean sprouts and scallions and chicken. It was a large portion so he got to take some home for lunch. His meal didnot include soup and salad I shared mine. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family for a gathering or just a romantic evening. When my son comes home we will surely come here for dinner. Try it out I'm sure you'll love it!

This restaurant, located in a nondescript strip mall next to a tattoo parlor, tries and mostly succeeds in elevating cuisine in Rotterdam. Some things, such as TV sports in the background, the overly loud music or the fork at each setting, tells me that they are catering to their local clientele. Others, such as the chefs and the food, make me believe they are going to force that clientele to have good sushi, whether they want it or not. The server was attentive without being overbearing, and the very personable chefs presented each patron with a small complimentary amuse bouche, created individually as we sat at the bar. I received small maki created with sirimi salad and rolled in avocado strips. The woman next to me was treated to a small plate of sashimi arranged as flowers. The bar itself is half sushi bar with display cooler (photo) and half alcohol bar. The menu's sushi listings are not that extensive, but seem to be a little on the expensive side (for Rotterdam). The soup and salad were pleasant enough. I also ordered a couple of quick maki and a couple of nigiri. The plating was simple enough, if a bit haphazard (photo). The only complaint about the sushi was the tamago was an egg custard instead of grilled egg, but the taste was not bad. One minor irk: the wasabi was piped from a pastry bag. Others may find this design ornamental, but it just reminds me how far we are from fresh wasabi grated on a shark skin oroshigane. Remember, we're in Rotterdam. The one in New York. But I enjoyed my simple lunch and will likely return soon. 2018 12 28. S22.

Is it pricey here or pretty reasonable?

Reasonable for hibachi cooking tables. Huge portions and large doggie bags.

We were sat in the new seating area adjacent to the River and the view was gorgeous and I had excellent light for photos. Our server was very professional and kind. We started out with cocktails and I asked if they had blue cheese stuffed olives, and he said he would stuff some for me - score! They were delicious too. Hand stuffed is the way to go. I had a perfect dirty martini and my sister tried one of the signature cocktails. Both were great! They also had a pretty affordable wine list. We started with the complementary bread and ordered the tuna poke dish. The bread was good and the everything seasoned butter was fun. The tuna dish was pretty basic and good. We asked for some more wontons and it was no problem. Again, we really did have great service. My sister ordered the scallops over lobster risotto and I ordered a steak. The risotto was perfect and actually had a good amount of tender lobster. I am picky with risotto and they nailed it. I ordered the ribeye with mushrooms. It came out perfectly cooked, and was a good quality piece of meat. It was perfectly matched with the mushrooms. My sister ordered the sticky toffee cake and she enjoyed it, I am not too big on sweets. Overall, I would come back here. I thought it was a nice experience, good food, and the prices aren't crazy considering how much it costs to dine out these days.

We were told there were none available ( there were two empty ones right in front of us) but if we waited 15 minutes we may be able to get one. At the same time, a couple from the middle room came out and said they didn't like their table. They were immediately seated in one of the empty booths. Not wanting to make a fuss, we took the offered table. The wine was reasonably priced and my filet was a little less cooked than I like it but it was delicious. My husband's strip steak was inedible. It was tough and chewy. We were told that it was because of the cut of steak. We seldom send things back but when the manager came over ( no apology- seemed kind of bothered) he sent in back with no replacement although one was offered. The manager took it off the bill Needless to say, this is the last time we will eat at Dukes.

But what brought me here wasn't the coffee, but rather the location. This is the coffee shop in the lobby of Proctor's. It's a great meeting spot in downtown Schenectady, because it's large, has comfortable seating, and free wifi. Of course, there's coffee. Which helps. And the coffee is just fine. They have a dark roast, and a house roast. The house is a blend of Ethiopian and Columbian beans. A medium costs $2.16 and it's unimpeachable. Better than the convenience store. Better than the national donut chain. Maybe that makes it even good. They also have a decaf and a flavored coffee. The very presence of flavored coffee gives me a sense of what kind of coffee shop Apostrophe is trying to be. And that's a shop for people who don't really like the taste of coffee. I'm a hard grader when it comes to coffee places. I really want all coffee shops to offer great coffee and well made espresso drinks. Perhaps, there is something at this shop that makes it a standout. But I've yet to find it. Given Apostrophe's convenient location, I'll most certainly be back. But it does seem like there's a lost opportunity to use this location inside Schenectady's great theater, to sell coffee that's as fine as its surroundings. Especially since the people who pass through during performances, surely enjoy the finer things in life.

The chilled food is no longer glacially frozen, and the prefab sandwiches have some flavor and haven't been stale. The coffee situation is still mezzo mezzo, and the hot options are a little hit or miss. All that said, we are back to patronizing it when at the Proctor's arcade and are feeling in the need of a pick me up and are too lazy to walk over to Jay Street, but I still wouldn't categorize it as a destination.

We were a group of nine that included a few children. We went all out. The clear soup was good and flavorful. The salad was fresh and we loved the dressing. It wasn't the typical orange ginger but a light dressing. Delicious! I got the shrimp and scallop combo hibachi and I love that it comes with both rice and noodles. Lots of fresh vegetables. The scallops and shrimp were meaty and perfectly grilled. Others got steak cooked to their liking and some got salmon. Apps were edamame and a dragon roll and spicy tuna. I didn't try the apps but it was a fancy presentation. Everything was just so good. The service was impeccable. The chef was super engaging with everyone, including the littles. Hibachi is always fun and they are pros on fun. They handled our group with humor and the theatrics you've become accustomed to at hibachi dinner were on point. We went there on a Sunday, late afternoon, and it was amazing. I also got a fried ice cream for my birthday with fireworks! Thank you! The restaurant is big and can accommodate large parties. I want to go back soon! I do want to mention that the person that was paying for this birthday dinner didn't realize that gratuity was already added. They came back to give her the extra cash back that she had put in her payment. She was so grateful she still added a little extra!

Their hibachi is always delicious, fun, & entertaining. Their chefs have more than a decade of experience and their teppanyaki skills really show it. Whether you're eating solo or with a friend, or a whole group, remember that you can still take a seat in front of the hot and flaming grill. However, you can still get the hibachi meals at a regular table but won't be able to watch the show (I highly recommend watching the show and enjoying the meal at the grill). They have great lunch specials and even kid's meals for those looking to keep the kids entertained. My go-to is their HIBACHI COMBO with STEAK + SCALLOPS. The chef will most definitely cook the protein to your liking. Not all hibachi spots include both fried rice and noodles in the meal, but Sake Bon does! The carbs are so packed with garlicky soy flavor, unlike many other places I've tried (bold, umami, and addicting...no kidding). The meal is complete with a side salad topped with the creamiest ginger dressing and a clear soup loaded with the perfect amount of sliced mushrooms and an onion flavored broth. Pair it with a nice cocktail, wine, or sake... you're all set! Their apps are also very generously portioned, so it's a good idea to share. It's always a great time with friends and family at Sake Bon. Enjoy their hibachi, sushi and sashimi , rice and noodles, plus so much more. Their fish is fresh and tasty if you like sushi and sashimi. Overall a wonderful Japanese restaurant that serves delicious food and drink that will leave you happy and satisfied. So grab a seat at their bar and enjoy some drinks and apps before heading over to one of their hibachi grills or dine at a table for an intimate and exquisite dinner.
