This is really a "to go" place. They serve the food in to-go containers even if you're not going (which I wasn't). The fast, not bad (not amazing) and open later than the other places around. The hot and sour soup is especially good. The ambience is like every other Americanized Chinese food restaurant. Bright lights, sparse decoration, visible kitchen, gas station-type booths, bottled drinks in a cooler. It's fine. The parking lot is well lit and the entry faces the street. It doesn't feel unsafe. If you're hungry late at night, you could do a lot worse than this place. Don't get your hopes up too high and you won't be disappointed. read more

I went into Johnstown Peking hoping for a solid Chinese food spot in town, but left pretty disappointed. The food was bland, greasy, and forgettable. The fried rice tasted more like plain rice with soy sauce splashed on top, the chicken was rubbery, and the lo mein was swimming in oil. Portions were fine, but when the flavor isn't there, it doesn't matter how much food ends up in the takeout box. The atmosphere wasn't much better--dim, dated, and not the cleanest. The service felt rushed, like I was more of an inconvenience than a customer. To make matters worse, on the way out I saw some kids selling lemonade on the sidewalk. Cute idea, right? Except someone walking by snapped at them, saying, "I'll give you 20 dollars if you shut the f** up and stop yelling."* It was just a bizarre, uncomfortable scene that added to the bad taste of the whole visit. I heard some people praise this place so I had to give it a try! I wanted a very filling lunch and remembered I had to try this place out, I'm not too good to say that I enjoy some american chinese take out from time to time. My one thing is, I know don't know what half the dishes are, so I just pick one. Today I picked the Boneless Spare Rib "Special Lunch", which came with pork fried rice and an egg roll. I ordered take out so I called ahead for pick up. Easy communication and he said 10-15 minutes. In 15 minutes the lunch was ready and packed up. I think the $8.80 is a very reasonable price for the amount of food. I do regret not trying their house made soy sauce, which sounds amazing. I saw large containers for sale at $4 a piece, but didn't see any little containers to go for my meal. I also didn't want to completely unpack my lunch to squirt a little on my rice. Next time - i'm coming for you soy sauce. The portion was plentiful, I ate it all but I was pretty ravenous, and very full afterward. The pork was really tender and fatty (in a great way) and some pieces had significant char which was my favorite part. The sauce was a touch sweeter than I would like, but I just used a little soy (packets) to balance it out. The rice was very lack luster. It was a super plain fried rice with a *few* pieces of pork and onions. I am not sure if that even qualifies as pork fried rice at that point. Definitely have had much better, even from take out joints. The egg roll was decent, should have been a touch crispier. All in all, its a decent take out chinese spot, but nothing to rave about. I would probably come again and try something else if the urge for chinese snuck up again. There are not many choices of places to get food in this area. read more

My wife and I have been fans of owners Kim and Christine for nearly thirty years. The food is consistently excellent versions of each item. When a place is this size and serves as many meals as they do, the ingredients cannot help but be fresh. The staff is very friendly and always accommodating to requests whether they be taste or spiciness preferences, or the more serious health considerations. We moved away but do stop in when we are out that way and the food is every bit as good as it was twenty years ago with a few new items.. Our favorites are shrimp toast, BBQ ribs, anything in their garlic sauce, Curried noodles, and their hot and sour soup is better than we've found anywhere, including when we lived in NYC! The restaurant itself is smallish seating about twenty, they serve a LOT more take out than sit down, and as alluded to earlier the service is extremely friendly and servers are knowledgeable about the offerings. Servings are generous, and the prices make them an extremely good value. It is a wonderful model of a family owned and operated eatery. read more

I am literally blown away by the disregard I received from these people. My family and I ordered some food and waited an hour for it to be delivered. Upon receiving the bag of food, I quickly noticed that we did not have the chicken and broccoli that we had ordered and our "cho mein" was a pile of cabbage in water. I called them up to let them know they had forgotten our food and we did not receive the correct cho mein and was told that I could come back out to get the food or they could give me a credit. I asked for the credit and they said "oh no, a store credit for when you order again." They wouldn't refund me for the food I paid for until they called back at 8pm. After speaking with the gentleman, he told me that "cho mein" is cabbage and doesn't have noodle and that's how its made-which is completely inaccurate. I didn't order cabbage soup. He proceeded to recharge by card ANOTHER $28 and only refunded me for their mistake and not for this disgusting bowl of cabbage that we didn't eat. I'm so disappointed with their customer service and disregard. Refunding me $18 would not have made their company go under-especially because $7.25 of it was for food I didn't receive and the other $8 (plus tax of course) was for the cabbage soup which I added a picture of below. The general Taos chicken was ok, but I would never in my life waste my money here ever again. Now I have over $60 pending on my card because of a stupid quality control mistake. read more

I do not really eat Chinese food, but Peking has very good chicken and rice soup, which is how I judge a Chinese restaurant. Call me crazy. I have purchased this soup from them at least a half dozen times in the past couple of months and have yet to get a headache, so they are A-Ok in my book. They completed a major renovation since the last time I was a customer (20 yrs ago) and the space is very nice and clean. i dunno what the rave reviews are for, this place is just ok. i come from an area that has around 30 chinese restaurants and i've eaten at most of them, and in my opinion this place rates about average, maaaaaybe a little above average in some areas. the pork fried rice and the eggrolls are pretty good. The orange chicken and sesame chicken are just ok, not too crisp and the sesame sauce was a little too salty for my tastes. i also tried a pupu platter and the fried wontons had very little flavor. the wings weren't anything special, and while the ribs had good flavor they were the smallest i've ever had, very little meat. and to add insult to injury the prices are higher than every chinese restaurant i've ever been do, anywhere from $2 to $6 higher than i'm used to paying. I'm only in town for a few more weeks, but i'm going to try the other place next time. overall i'd give it two and a half stars. read more
