Found this little gem online while driving through the area. The staff was friendly, place was clean and most of all the food was great! We got an Italian Sub, chicken fingers, Cajun chicken sandwich, onion rings and fried mushrooms. All delicious, made to order and served quickly. We ate outside with the dogs. This is one of our "must go to" breakfast spots when we are on vacation in Northern Michigan. The town of Maple City isn't much to see in itself, but this quaint little restaurant is worth the trip to town. Breakfast never disappoints! The Runaway Train omelet (minus the banana peppers and with mushrooms added) is oh so good! The staff is friendly and it's neat to see the same people working there from year to year. Excellent food, excellent service. Engineer's breakfast was absolutely delicious. We visited around 9:30 am, we were seated right away despite the fact that it was busy, and we were served coffee and water. They gave us a whole pot of good coffee. Food was fantastic. Eggs, bacon, ham, hash browns, toast, oatmeal - all perfect. Prices are also excellent. Only $22 for two meals and a pot of coffee. Highly recommend. This is definitely a local joint. My girlfriend and I stopped twice for breakfast while on vacation, and we decided to come back the second morning over some of the more touristy brunch spots because we were so pleased with our food. I had the Little Engineer breakfast and everything included was delicious. My girlfriend got the Greek omelette both times and was happy about how many veggies were included in the omelette. The toast was delicious as well. The waitresses were friendly and efficient. The building is very small and it would be been nice to be spread out more from other tables, but the food was great. read more

Great little restaurant in a tiny little town. Food is fresh and they are justifiably famous for their breakfast. Their pizza is fantastic and employees are always friendly and helpful. The prices are also some of lowest you'll find in the county. Be prepared for a packed house for breakfast on the weekends. And note that they are closed on Mondays. read more

On our "Amazing Race" adventure for some breakfast in Traverse City on a Sunday morning we finally "won" (a breakfast) by arriving at this place. It was a life saver or we would have had an empty stomach on a 2 hour hike around Sleeping Bear Dunes. The place is pretty small but you don't have to wait too long for a table. I did some searching ahead of time for good breakfast places before we headed up north. This place came up with awesome reviews and fellow Yelpers did not lie! After my own mistake at NOT looking at the hours beforehand (leading us on a crazy breakfast hunt -- this place is closed on Mondays!), we stopped by the next day for breakfast. It was worth the wait, and it was rewarded! The place is small and definitely has a "locals" feel since about a dozen heads all turned to look at us out of towners when we entered. Our server was still cordial and we took a seat and had some steaming hot coffee (from a local roaster) placed in front of us pronto. The menu is a little small, but there's something for everyone. My husband got the breakfast burrito and I got the corned beef hash. His burrito was massive! I'm not sure how he managed to eat all of it. The chorizo inside was epically yummy and everything inside was just delicious. I'd pay almost twice that to get a burrito like that down here. My corned beef hash was delicious was well with fresh onions, big chunks of corned beef, and perfectly cooked eggs. I was in heaven. We came back the next day for a late-evening pizza craving and ordered the Mexican pizza to go. Oh my gosh! This pizza was amazing! A little spicy, full flavored taco meat, salsa for the sauce and tons of toppings! Why don't we have places like this near me?! A stellar little restaurant that's definitely a gem! read more

Pegtown subs are the best subs I've ever had, they are made on homemade buns that taste great and I heavily recommend getting their pizza subs. Their other menu items can be quite nice aswell, especially the burgers and nachos. read more

Pegtown Station is THE best breakfast in the region (and may have to stop serving at 11:30AM because they are out of food!! - see review below). I CAN tell you - this is the best "made from scratch" food anywhere in the area. The Pizza, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches - are all home made and fresh and delightful. I am back and forth between Traverse City and Leelanau County all the time and I make sure I route through Maple City just to enjoy their food. And the service is incredible. The folks are super nice and very "user friendly". My husband eats no meet or dairy and they accommodate him no matter what is on the menu. And I always want to switch things up and they do it. This is a local GEM. If you miss breakfast don't fret - it's ALL good food!! read more

Often times I judge a place by their commitment to a quality cup of coffee. They carry a local roasters coffee (Leelanau Coffee Roasters). Now, it's still served diner style--but it tells me they care about quality and they care about their ingredients. My wife and I took our four kids here for breakfast on a rainy camping morning (D.H Day). Friendly service. The owner (wife) was our server. This was our first time trying this restaurant. Two of us had the corned beef hash. The corned beef was sliced and diced then browned. It seemed more like ham then corned beef. Saute onions and a small amount if meat we're set on top of hash browns. It wasn't anything like what either of us have had when ordering this dish at other places. It wasn't awful, but was far from great. The other two at our table had french toast (made from thin sliced, unexciting bread and a Bfast burrito. Both were described as just ok. I can't believe we've never eaten here. I've been vacationing/living in this area since the 1970s and just had a great meal. Pegtown Station opened around 2003, according to one of the staff. We had pizza and breadsticks and they were top notch. Maple City is off the beaten path and doesn't get the exposure that Glen Arbor does from the tourists. Pegtown has a full menu of sandwiches, salads, burgers and pizza. The prices were reasonable and the service was great. Check this place out if you are in the area. read more
