Not our first time here and it's a place we normally stop at when we stay in the area. The beer was good and cold and we got there for the dinner special which was ribs. They were so juicy and tender and the sauce was not to spicy and not too sweet. My husband had the mashed potatoes and he's still talking about them. We were on our way back from Leland to Traverse City and the kids were hungry. We didn't have a ton of time to do research and this place was along the main road with no crowd. The wait staff was friendly and the place definitely had a "local hang out" feel. No major complaints but no rave reviews either. Cheeseburger and chicken tenders were standard bar food, partner got the chicken sandwich and it was ok- figured it was a frozen chicken patty with some sauce. The BLT was just so so, on the dry side until I added some Mayo to it and the bacon was minimal. We also couldn't figure out why all the drinks tasted "off". Both the water and the soda, several in our party thought they had a strong led taste to them. Cedar Tavern is hands down the best bar in the area. Best prices, best food. It's not quite a dive, but close enough, just without the sticky floors. Super casual, but always clean. They have a nice patio area as well. I love all of the bartenders who are attentive and no nonsense. I've never had a bad meal here. The potato skins are great: huge, full of cheese and always served piping hot. The menu has all kinds of appetizers, sandwiches and pizza. Sometimes the wait for food can be a minute but staff will always tell you in advance how long to expect on food and the wait is usually only when they are super busy or have a ton of carryout orders. The drinks are cheap and plenty, with a decent selection of local beer which is nice if you don't have time to make it to one of the breweries. One of my favorite things about Cedar is that it is decidedly NOT a tourist bar - something that's hard to find in the area. When you go there you feel at home. We've met several people there over the last couple of years, some of whom have become good friends. read more

They know how to fry a wing: In fact they can fry anything. Wasn't planning on eating fried this and that but they shut down part of their kitchen at 9 and all they had on offer was fried items. Glad I finally "took my chances" and stopped. (I had read somewhere of another's negative comments [not Yelp] and it had kept me from giving them a try.) Initially entering, I was surprised to see how roomy Cedar Tavern was. I guess I had envisioned small, dark, and dingy. Looks are deceiving from the outside. In addition to large, it was bustling (early in the week) with what appeared to be many locals rehydrating at the long bar as well as several other groups dining at the many table options. It was clean! Staff was friendly! There were lotsa beer choices! Their little patio area was also a nice option (bonus would have been if those smoking a couple of tables down would have minded the "no smoking" sign and NOT smoked). The food I had was good. I will most definitely be back, and likely frequently as it had that cozy-neighborhood, friendly-bar feel! read more

A real bargain . We eat here every time that we come to Glen Arbor. Never a bad meal. The portions are huge. There is always enough left over for lunch the next day. Service can be a bit slow at dinner time. Staff is always friendly. Definetly worth the 12 mile drive from Glen Arbor. As far as ambience, it's a 1970's local rural bar. Beware, stop by only if you have time to kill. Six of us stopped in for a late lunch around 2:30 while wine tasting and it took 1 hour to get our food. The actual food was standard the service was poor. After questioning the delay we were told they had one poor waitress and one person in the kitchen. There was no warning of slow service when we walked in and the restaurant was not close to full. They also charge $3 for 4 onion rings. And these aren't any significant size. After calling this out we were time they were smaller than normal and were supposed to be removed from the bill, but weren't. All in all it was totally not worth it. read more

Happy Hour Special (4pm-8pm) Draft beers are $1.50 Their BBQ ribs are decent, smoky and moist with lots of meat falling off of the bones. $11.95 buys you a half rack of ribs, there's lots of ribs in that half rack. Hubby ordered the Greek salad, the greens were fresh and he was impressed by the size of the salad, served with lots of Kalamata olives. He was happy to see that there wasn't any iceberg lettuce on his plate. When it comes to the sides, you have a choice: shoestring fries, sweet potato fries and tater tots. We stopped here after a long afternoon. We walked in and we greeted quickly. We had a large group of people joining us and they were quick to get us set-up at a table. We arrive close to the kitchen closing but they never made us feel rushed. Drinks were served quickly and food was close behind. Everything was pretty yummy. This is located in a small town outside of Traverse City were locals all know each other including many from my family. I have had the worst experiences here the last six months. Last year, this was my favorite bar to grab food and drinks at. I have been completely ignored every single time I've gone in there. After waiting 20 minutes at one side of the bar, I needed to move to a new seat just to be able to wave down a worker. It's taken an average of 15 mins just to be noticed by the bartenders. I am a local in the area and am a frequent customer but I've been treated like garbage in there recently. I am never going back again. I have overheard the new workers trash talking customers WITH the manager. It's completely inappropriate and this place is a waste of my money now. Don't ever visit this place. read more

Cedar Tavern is Midwest North Country at its best. Nice pine paneled bar with plenty of TVs, a pool table and a long bar with flexible seating. Each night features a different special of some sort, and Friday's AYCE perch was great. They'll substitute cole slaw for fries or baked potato, and at $17 per person, it's a deal. Same for the $1.75 drafts, which are a nice accompaniment to euchre on Sundays. read more
