OMG, I love this place! I ordered a large New York-style pie with chicken and olives, and you can tell the quality is top-tier--the chicken definitely wasn't that pre-cooked stuff you get elsewhere. I also couldn't resist trying a slice of their Detroit-style deep dish pepperoni, and it was just as delicious. The vibe is great--full of locals, quirky art, and a staff that is both friendly and hilarious. Their bar is well-stocked with a solid wine and beer selection (they had Two Hearted Ale on tap, so I was a happy camper). Whether you're grabbing a full pie or just a quick slice and a drink, I highly recommend checking this spot out! read more

We ordered a large veggie pizza. Really didn't have a lot of flavor and by the time we got it home it was very soggy. When we called in the order they said it was an hour wait. No problem, but I feel the pizza was done maybe in 30 minutes and it sat in the box for the next 30 minutes? It certainly wasn't hot; that should have been our first clue. read more

We were in Benzonia and read about Upriver Pizza. Checked their hours to verify they were open. When we arrived, they were closed. Checked their hours on the door which indicated they should be open. Three other cars pulled up; individuals going up to the door and looking at the posted business hours. Nothing posted to indicate they were closed for a specific reason. Unfortunately, I have experienced this with many different food establishments since COVID. It's a laissez-faire business model: we might be open when we're supposed to be, or we might not. It doesn't inspire a second visit. read more

Excellnt pizza. Spicy pepperoni great sauce, not soft and floppy. Cheese was also grear. Ill be back.

Camping in Manistee and wanted a good NY style thin pizza and checked out the reviews for Upriver Pizza in Benzonia, a 30 min ride from our campground. Nothing but time on our hands, we took a ride, they did not disappoint!! Located in a strip mall, small place, very clean, nice bar to sit at and multiple tables to eat at. Very pleasant employees, sat down and checked out menu and placed order at the counter. Our drinks were delivered to our table along with a small Greek salad, very tasty. Our pizza came in a timely fashion, we ordered a large meat lovers cooked crispy, generous amount of meat and cheese cooked perfectly. Delicious thin crust pizza, really enjoyed it along with the salad. While eating we were able to enjoy live music, perfect timing, 2 young guys playing guitar's and the one singing, really good voice singing Rock Got our bill and the place was really busy, good pizza and good music, cold beer, don't get any better than that! Reasonable prices, great choice for dinner!! Come and check this place out, it's a good one. Debbie/ Riverview, Mich. read more

This pizza was very good! We had Detroit style and their winning thin style crust. They were both fluffy and crunchy at the same time. The place is in a strip mall, but it was delicious! read more

Had the deep dish Detroit pizza yesterday it was very good. Feeling good today so it must have fresh ingredients in the pizza because I don't feel well the next day if the things aren't fresh, I would give it a five star rating. It was very good. lots of pepperoni and cheese, crunchy crust, but better get there before it comes out of the oven. It sweats a lot in the box. read more

Really great food for a strip mall pizza joint. We got food to go and enjoyed sunset down on the beach. I enjoyed the art on the walls from local artists. Especially good was the greek salad. read more

Large pep hit the spot. We did take out on a Friday night. Inside looked was a decent crowd at the bar. Garlic knots were okay.

Best thin crust pizza outside NYC. Tastes like Joes New York Pizza but in the northern woods of Michigan! Wonderful staff & owner. Love this place! read more

Upriver Pizza is the best pizza you will find. I go there very regularly and have been since it opened. Mark, Jodi, and Chris are top notch people with a true passion for what they do. I feel always welcome and the staff I consider friends. The pizza is so good that I get it a few times a week. Fresh ingredients and home made dough that is truly hand tossed. Three types of pizza crusts they offer, New York style hand tossed (thin crust) American style (pan style) and Detroit style (deep dish). You can't go wrong with any of the choices. Thursdays they do smash burgers which are epic. They do salads, sandwiches and pasta as well. It is my favorite restaurant in the whole area by a long shot! Very casual setting with a full bar. read more

The pepperoni was good, the Hawaiian pizza was beyond mid, hella greasy but delectable, service was good and the place was nice and clean. Overall 4 star would give 3.5, some things just shouldn't be on a pizza. read more

Pizza, pizza, pizza, it's all about the pizza. Yes, this is the best pizza joint in the area, and I'd extend it all the way to Traverse City. We as a party of three ordered three pizza's. One a Detroit style. Two New York thin crust pizza's. OMG so gooooood. I also ordered there chicken wings which were meh! Yes, it saddened me. But, let's go back to the pizza. Upriver, has the secret from great service, in-house music, and exceptional pizzas. Dip a slice in buffalo sauce and it's love at first bite. The 4 stars and not 6 was all about the chicken wings, undercooked and flavorless. But, I don't wanna end a review on a meh note. This place rocks. Service is great, the chef is brilliant and the pizza suburb. read more

First time here and I was pleased! Looks a little shotty from the outside but those are the best food places! Fantastic service. One of the owners is in the back making the pizzas and his wife is one of two bartenders. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience. Ask the bartender about her "homemade ginger-ale". We got the Large New York style: vodka sauce, feta, pepperoni, basil, garlic, and tomatoes. It came out to roughly $30. A bit pricey but I'm always willing to spend a little extra to get something that actually tastes good. The pizza was made from scratch and you can tell. Decent dough, I liked the sauce, and the toppings were quality/fresh. It's exceptional for the area and definitely worth giving a try! read more

pizza was amazing! this place was absolutely fantastic. It's very rare that you go to a pizza place that has reverse osmosis water :) Just that alone made us stay and then come to find out that the pizza with sourdough. If you haven't tried it I'm telling you go to this place and the customer service was impeccable the lady that very, very sweet very professional and bottom line ...The pizza was some of the best pizza ever had. read more

I can't recommend this place more! Visiting from Indiana for a second time and this place was a must stop! Pizza & service are top notch.

Average for the area it's located. Both the Detroit and NY style pizza missed the mark of what I expected for the premium pricing. Not many options in this area. Pick something other than pizza if you go. Maybe you'll have better luck. read more

Excellent food and service from one of the wonderful co-owners, Jody. Loved both the New York style pizza and Detroit style pizza--come here for real NY thin crust pizza! Tucked next to a tackle shop of a strip mall along the roadside of Benzie Highway is the best pizza for 100 miles, including Traverse City. It looks like you would expect a place to look beside a fishing gear store; they found a place that had tiled floor, put up a wall for the kitchen and oven, towed in a bar. This could have easily been a space for a DMV waiting room, but slap two TVs on the way, tap the kegs, put on the hockey and voilá. Whomever is making these pizzas knows what they are doing... they mastered it. The pizza has the thinness that is very hard to achieve, and shows the experience of the pizzaiolo; it's like inspecting a carpenter's work; you have to have made tons of pizzas, the art has to be in your hands to craft the dough in this way. The cook is perfect, a nice light crunch to the crust and not "floppiness" to the slice. Come here because you love pizza and you aren't an asshole. As casual as this place is... you are lucky to be here. You're welcome for the tip. read more

If you live in Benzie County you might be tempted to just keep ordering the same boring pizza you've been eating for years. But then you'd be missing out on the best pie in Northern Michigan! The sandwiches are great and the garlic knots are killer. But all you really need is a large pepperoni and a large penne vodka. The dough is a perfect mix of light and crispy. The meats are primo and super delicious. And the sauce is out of this world. Get in here and eat some pizza! read more

We have been coming up to this area of Michigan for 20 years and are always excited to try new places. The pizza was fantastic. The Detroit style had a crispy, toasty crust with a very generous topping of pepperoni. The salad was also very good with the house dressing. Enough for two of us. People around us were also ordering the pasta- so I'm thinking that was tasty as well. Cute atmosphere and great local live music. Full bar or unlimited soft drinks. Please try it! Friendly staff and clean bathrooms! read more

Went on a little road trip up 31 and decided to stop by Upriver Pizza on our way back. So glad we did. The service was friendly, fast and informative. We ordered the garlic knots and the New York style Meat Lovers Pizza. Both were delicious. Have eaten here a couple of times now and really love their NY style pizza. They sell whole pies or you can order by the slice. It's an affordable (and filling) lunch.
