Agree with everyone else. This used to be my favorite Peet's. It was my go to place to treat myself to a drink and stay an hour to do weekly planning. After the remodel, I just haven't been back once. Not sure whose brainchild it was to take one of the absolute best Peet's locations and totally get rid of its character and community function. No longer a meeting place that comes to mind. Such a tragic loss. Still the best employees but I'm not partaking. Even stopped buying Peet's gift cards! Great for a drink to go I'm sure! I have been coming to this Peet's since it opened. I really love it, except they just redecorated and took away almost half of the seating. Now it's no longer a social venue. It's more a grab and go place. This unfortunately has forced me to go meet friends And family at Starbucks. I was really disappointed when I walked into this Peets today. Before, it was a wonderfully warm comfortable place to enjoy my coffee. It felt like a cozy living room. It has now morphed into a fastfood joint. Subdued lighting replaced with bright white lights. Comfortable chairs replaced with hard metal chairs and little metal stools suitable for a toddler. Warm colors and finishes replaced with bright hard surfaces. Just hideous. My butt got sore and I left after 20 minutes. I can't imagine meeting anyone here for coffee and conversation. Omg! I've been to many MANY Peets locations but I Just had the worst service here. Cashier (brown hair, black hoodie) made several mistakes in my ONE order. She was ready to ring me up without asking what size drink. I asked for Large, received a Medium. Husband inputted that he wanted to order a drink also. He ordered extra foam, did not receive it. His cortado normally comes in a small cup, but he asked for it to be placed in a medium cup (easier to hold for him) and it came in the tiny cup. Didn't ask if we wanted anything else or even my name. Remember she was ready to ring me up after I said which drink I wanted. Didn't ask if I wanted to check in on the app. Wth?!? I know people have off days, but I mean come on! Maybe they were one person down and she was sick (in which case she shouldn't be working). But there was a woman with a cap and another girl with red hair working that shift. We were the only people in line. Trash on tables and floor. Garbage bin overflowing. Once again Peets remodeled a store and the result sucks. From a warm relaxed vibe, it now is a failed modern look thats cold and boring. The metal stool chairs belong in a prison. Along with that if they mess up your drink you better not wait as they seem reluctant to fix it. Heres hoping Peets (now owned by Dr Pepper). Doesn't screw up more stores! Oh, AND they leave a hanging lock on the right entrance doors forcing everyone to use the left door to enter, the same one people use to Exit! read more

After lunch in the area, we took a walk downtown Orinda. We came across a Peet's and I decided to stop in for a drip coffee. This was a good-sized location and only two tables were occupied with patrons. I placed my order for a dark drip and the cashier said it would be a two minute wait as it was brewing. I told her I was fine with that. In about two minutes, she called me over to hand me my coffee. Service was friendly. I got by cup of dark coffee and we continued our walk of Downtown. Happy to have seen Peet's and get my cup of dark bold coffee. read more

This used to be one of my favorite Peet's shops, but no more since the remodel. The coffee is still excellent, the pastries still topnotch, and the baristas are a thumbs up. But they took away half the seating, and they replaced several of the comfortable padded chairs and seats with hard, unpadded steel chairs, some with no seat backs! I'm not sure what the people in charge of the remodel were thinking. read more

I have been coming to this location for 8 years+. I would drive from the pleasant hill area to come to this location specifically. It used to have a warm inviting feel; it was a place where people would come to read the paper and where students would come to study. This new remodel completely destroyed everything that I found nice about the place. Everything now feels soulless. The lighting is way too bright. Everything is basically a cold white color. Half the seating is gone. It feels as though Peets no longer wants people to actually sit down and enjoy their coffees at their caffès. The change in pastries after took place after the new year is a whole other story...they are abysmal now too. read more

This is definitely one of the peets locations. They had plenty of medium roast ready to serve. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant was clean, and there were no vagrants camping out in the restaurant. Not sure I'm a fan of putting out the various milks at the self-serve station. If COVID-19 taught us anything, it is that we should minimize the number of times we have to touch something in public. I am by no means a germaphobe, but there are plenty of opportunities to spread germs or taint condiment left out in the open. read more

8/29/21 Not bad! We actually were driving back home to San Jose from Orinda and so my gf had to get coffee, as is her ritual anytime we start driving home. We meant to go to Starbucks but it was closed, so Peet's was also here so that's what she got... Something hot for herself (and why?--it's 100deg outside... beats me) and a White Chocolate something-or-other with oatmilk for my lactose-intolerant butt. I gotta say, it was pretty good!--my main measurement of how good any such drink is would be how close it is to the standard version made with normal milk. Just wanted a mocha espresso but usually make it at home. Went to Peet's and ordered a cup, when asked if I wanted extra shot I said yes. Didn't know I would get two cups . I asked if they could fix them together and how do I order it next time so I get it right, the guy who helped me started yelling at me saying I was yelling at his employees ( no I didn't) and I would be asked to leave and not come back or he would call the police. Exactly what I needed to drive in traffic while visiting family. I ordered a hot chai tea late with oat milk and it was perfect. The caramel frap my partner got was amazing and my mom got a hot white chocolate late and loved it. Place has ample parking, clean restroom and friendly staff. I didn't have the app, but I downloaded it on the spot and scanned before paying. I was surprise to see I got 120 points for my first order. I highly recommend everyone to do this and get rewards accumulated. It's always nice when you get something free or discounted just for having the app downloaded. read more

I love Pete's coffee but the service of this location is just terrible. Now they won't even serve drip coffee at the cash register. Now you have to wait another 5-10 minutes for someone else to get around pour the drip coffee (when they actually have it prepared) and walk over to the bar. It's not often that I write reviews on Yelp, so when I write a review it's because I feel strongly about it. I've been to this Peet's dozens of times in the past couple of years. Now, Peet's gives free drinks every 15 "points" that you earn. When I get a free drink, it's a treat, so I order beyond my usual drink: a large instead of small or medium, for example, maybe a fancy drink instead of something cheaper. When I made my order today, I thought I was using my free drink, but apparently clicking on the "redeem" button only works in store, and I didn't realize until after my order that I had been charged. I didn't want to go in to fix it since I had my kid with me and wanted to decrease COVID risk by just grabbing the drink and leaving. No worries; I figured I could go back later. So I returned in the afternoon to see if I could retroactively apply my free drink. Maybe they could give me a refund and I could re-order the same drink with the discount, and they'd know not to prepare the re-order, or something like this. Accounting-wise, it would be as if I'd gotten the free drink in the first place. Or whatever they recommended. The guy at the counter, Austin, made no effort to mask how big an inconvenience my request was. "You can't get the free drink unless you order in the store", he told me (this is false; it's just tricky to find out how). When he asked me when I made my order and I told him it was a few hours earlier, he scoffed. "You want a refund for an order that long ago?!" When another employee asked if he needed help, he didn't seem to mask how big an inconvenience this was. He said they couldn't help me. I was about to leave when another employee came by to show me how to redeem a drink in the app. She suggested coming back to redeem my coupon later, which didn't address the problem that I *never* pay for large fancy drinks, but whatever. She was at least polite. At this point I I figured it wasn't worth my time to argue about a couple of dollars, so I left. So there are several things that went wrong here. First, the Peet's app is a bad user experience for mobile orders (this isn't the fault of this store but led to this problem). Second, it's ridiculous that they can't issue a refund for an order a few hours earlier, and I suspect they can but found it inconvenient. Third, and most importantly, the first employee was simply rude. Fourth, their dispute resolution policy is seems to be lacking. To contrast this with Philz, when I one time ordered a drink at the wrong location via their app (completely my mistake), they said, "No problem! We'll just make you another one here." I wasn't asking for a free drink, just to use my earned points on the drink I'd ordered. No more. There are too many other good coffeeshops in the area for me to go to this Peet's again. I'll use up my free drink at another location and stop going to this one. Besides, Cafe Teatro has better cappuccinos, Philz has better coffee, and Starbucks has better iced coffee. read more

Review #068 - 2017 I've heard good things about Peet's coffee from my older brother, but I guess my taste in coffee is not the same as his since I'm still a sucker for Starbucks, even though I vowed to boycott them. My younger sister and I were at Smiley's Nail Salon adjacent to this spot so we decided to walk over after our nails were all nice and pretty. Unfortunately, we weren't too impressed with our drinks. My sister had the large caramel macchiato while I had the large cappuccino. Both drinks were not to our liking. The location is very nice and the employees are very friendly, but I wouldn't come back for their coffee. My sister even made a silly comment about anyone who plans to buy her a gift card from Peet's. She said, "if you buy me a gift card from Peet's, I'll throw it back at you!"
