I like Peets more than Starbucks. I enjoy the white mochas. They have a stronger coffee flavor compared to Starbucks. I can't tolerate their freddos though. Too sweet. The staff here are lovely - the barista helped me to visualize what kind of frosty drink I wanted (which turned out to be creamy with lots of chocolate and caramel and perfect). The cheese fruit box turned out to be better than the one I often get at That Other Coffee Company - I like the tamari rice crackers and the more generous portions of cheese and the creamier Brie. Today, October 9th, has been my worst experience at a Peet's ever. Waited 25 minutes to get three drinks and the final drink, a fog tea never was made. The two other drinks came one at a time 15 minutes apart. I had three other people with me and we expected to be able to sit and converse over coffees or teas. That was impossible. Having been offered nothing more than a, "We are so sorry." My group had to leave for morning commitments. As I was speaking with a cashier, a guy waiting in line saw the disorganization and he looked at me. I commented that he might need some time if he wanted something. So he asked the cashier what was up. They informed him it was not going well this morning and so he left. At least he had not paid for a something never received like me. Love Orinda Peet's. Animals and kids friendly. They are fast and efficient even if they are crowded. They give away free used coffee grounds - which are excellent for your garden, if you ask for them. Orders are always what is expected. It's a better stronger coffee than Starbucks and they don't add sweetness unless you want them. In comparison, I find Starbucks drinks to be too sweet/unhealthy. read more

Ordered a cappuccino, after 10 minutes waiting I leaned they screwed up my order. I was there for a meeting so I could not wait. I mentioned to the bar attendant where I was sitting. The capuccino never came. At the end of the meeting another 5 minutes waiting in line to ask for a credit. "I am so sorry" and my cappuccino credited back. read more

I had to do a fasting blood test. Fasting as in nil by mouth for 12 hours. . . meaning I had to wake up, stare balefully at my French press and walk on by. No coffee for me! Oh, the pain. I went to a lab in Orinda and as soon as I walked out, I googled "Coffee, Orinda" and up came Peet's and it was "0 miles" away. I became religious at that moment and thanked God. My standard order at Peet's is a large iced latte, extra shot, room - yes, I am one of THOSE people. I hate myself sometimes, too. This Peet's is extra large, actually EXTRA roomy, with lots of tables and chairs. Very, very clean. I am not sure if it was just because I waited until almost noon to have my first coffee of the day, or if it was the espresso bean of the day. . but this here iced latte is the best one I have ever had. . . it takes skill to get the milk and ice ratio right and this barista had mad skillz. . .thank you Mr. Afraux-Hawk dude. . . you made me the best iced latte of my life. read more

I'm cheap. My palette has finally made the transition to Peet's from that "other" coffee place, so, after a looooong afternoon working at Looooooong's, I wanted to stop in to get some of their wonderful caffeine vessel to cure my headache and carry me over to the city for the Elite event last night. HOWEVER, equally as important, I wanted to get my parking validated for the garage down the street. After 4+ hours of working for no pay, I felt entitled to a free 3 hours of parking. So I went in, told them that I really wanted coffee there, and asked if they validate. No. So, I reiterated how much I wanted to get my coffee there, then left for that "other" coffee place because, as I said, I'm cheap. Four stars because I truly prefer their coffee, and the employees were nice enough to not call me rude names to my face. I'm really not usually like this...and now I've come clean. Probably my favorite Peets location-- you'll find that the store is very spacious and has amble and comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. I've been going to this location for over 6 years, and the music they play is pleasant and non-distracting; it adds to the store's unique ambiance. The coffee is always brewed fresh and hot; the selection of tea is both diverse and rare (they also give you two bags of tea which I admire). They non password protected wi-fi as of late, which is way better than having to ask for a receipt with passcode inscribed. Lines can be long during some rush hour times during the morning and afternoon, but the staff is insanely friendly and hardworking. Because this Peets location is so amazing, you'll often find that the store is significantly more crowded than the locations in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, and Berkeley. read more

I love this Peet's - I'm glad it opened because the Theater Square Starbucks is crap. This Peet's location has lots of space, plenty of seating - including the 2 couches, if you're lucky! - and very friendly staff. I was sitting here the other day, doing some work, and the guys working behind the counter knew the name of almost every single customer that walked in! Even though it's a huge corporation, I still love that Peet's encourages the "neighborhood-y" feel. Definitely a great place to catch up with a friend or get some studying done. Besides that, the usual great selection of drinks, and most importantly, they carry Scharffen-Berger. I love Peet's! read more

As a sign I once saw read: Starbucks is to Peets as methadone is to heroin. Tru 'dat! I've never found their service to be slow (cannot sat the same for the Peets store on Locust in WC), have always found the staff to be between cordial and friendly. Bottom line? Bad customer service!. First time and last time going to this Peet;s Coffee. I was there today the first time meeting my friend to discuss some business. I went up there trying to order a coffee and a pastry. There were three women working there, I was second in line, when it was my turns, the woman at the counter just walked away, never came back. Then I saw another tall woman came behind the counter, I tried waving to her, signalling I wanted to order, then she just walked past me without looking at me, treating me like transparent. I was weaving a turquoise color shirt, It was impossible for them not able to notice me.. I was furious. My friend later wanted to order me a drink, I said "no." I do not want to give them any business! "I do not think they want my business." They were not even busy at 3:00 pm. I saw the woman who disappeared and showed up later holding two cold drinks and went out to someone who parked the car outside. She walked passed me and gave me a very unfriendly star and I starred back. So much for the nice sunny Wednesday afternoon! Btw, the third woman was there serving another customer. She was not part of this complain. I feel so disgusted, I might consider never go to any Peet;s Coffee at all. read more

Although it's usually fairly crowded in there you are never in line for very long, while the Starbucks up the street is the total opposite. Good selection of baked goods as well, coffee crumb cake and the pumpkin bread are my two favorites. Sure parking is issue also but it's work the walk, their cocoa is good too, it's not too sweet, and the blueberry mocha is definitely worth a try. read more

Nice afternoon sun out front but sitting is limited to only two benches - unfortunately there are no tables outside. They remodeled not too long ago and it's much nicer. Still my preferred Peet's Coffee & Tea location by far. The barista, Evero, makes a fantastic cappuccino, and the shift lead, Emily, runs an efficient shift. I like their promos (e.g. 50% off holiday drinks, B1G1) which makes it a more affordable way to try their new drinks (Black Tie, Salted Caramel Macchiato). Since their remodel, they have a ton of seating, and it seems like it's always crowded -- but that there are always at least a few seats available! I just wish that one day, I will win the drawing to be the customer of the week! : ) read more

I tend to be a Starbucks brat out of convenience in San Diego but when I come home the tables turn and Peet's in right on the way to the freeway. Joy! Their iced lattes are infinitely better...they just taste...cleaner. Like they might be made with love? Maybe I'm confused, it might just be the fact that they use frothy steamed milk and yet miraculously the ice doesn't melt. Magic - that's what it is. We're huge Peet's Coffee fans! This is our go-to location since it's only a few minutes from our house in Orinda. It's a very popular location, which means at peak hours, you're going to be dealing with a line and going to have trouble finding parking. When we can't find parking, we usually just bail on the idea of getting coffee. But, if we're able to find a parking spot, we're willing to brave the line. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This Peet's location offers the usual Peet's fare - coffee, coffee beans, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee accessories. I used to love Peet's coffee but now I think I might boycott it. Apparently, Peet's now has a functionality at checkout where you can electronically leave tips for its employees. Perhaps Peet's doesn't realize that tipping is a vestige from slavery times, but even the suggestion that the customer should subsidize the company's own employees' wages Is a horrible concept. Why don't you just pay your employees a fair and livable wage and not even make tipping a consideration? Shameful. read more

I've been coming here for about 4 years. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. The drinks are made perfectly in regards to texture and taste. The store is always clean and neat. There's usually plenty of room to sit. Parking can sometimes be tough but not always. The cinnamon rolls are my favorite pastry item. Would recommend this place any day. read more

I love Peet's but don't love the staff they hire. I came in on a Saturday morning at 6:30 am and it took ten minutes for them to make my latte. There was a customer who came after me that the two staff were all over so my latte order sat while they chatted up the other customer. It's rude and frustrating especially since the other customer got their drinks seconds after mine. All customers should be treated with the same respect. read more

Rude. Peet's has the best coffee hands-down. Peet's in Orinda has the most consistently rude people I've seen in my 35 years working in the hotel & restaurant industry. I don't write Yelp reviews as a rule because I'm a business owner and see unrealistic, perpetually unhappy people write bad reviews all the time just to get back at a business for not giving them exactly what they wanted. That's not what this is. This is a buyer-beware warning: After about a dozen visits, the staff has been consistently rude EVERY TIME!! I always tip a dollar. After about 5 visits that went down to .50¢, and my final visit was a quarter, and only because I always give some sort of tip, even for bad service as a common courtesy to my fellow industry workers. There is a Starbucks down the street, and the very first Peet's Coffee ever, on Vine Street in Berkeley has a Peet's museum in the back. The team at the Orinda Peet's means well, but they do not have a system to ensure drip coffee is available when customers arrive. On three of my last five visits, I have ordered a simple drip coffee. After paying, they informed me that they have run out of coffee, are brewing a fresh batch, and will call me when the new batch is ready. Unfortunately, in addition to lacking a system to ensure coffee is always available in the coffee shop without wait, they also lack a system to track and ensure timely service to customers who have paid and are waiting for their delayed coffee. In each instance, I have had to get back in a line, unfortunately when I am trying to get to work, ask again for the coffee, show a receipt for the prior purchase. I hesitate to take the further time to write this review, but it is odd that a coffee shop cannot immediately dispense drip coffee to those arriving and paying $4. read more
