I enjoyed the beautiful ride to Orinda this morning. This was exactly what I needed, a yummy hot sandwich and a gigantic cup of fragrant green tea, to warm my belly on such a wet day! Service was greetings with a smile, you can never go wrong with that, love the outdoor seating with the course across the way, but it was way too wet. This place used to be ok , not anymore. AVOID I had a chicken taco salad that was a notch below taco bell. Tiny amount of little microscopic squares of what tasted like canned chicken. The sauce seriously tasted worse than taco bell. The chips were pedestrian low grade safeway chips. Save your money for something good. read more

As often as I am in Orinda and have driven by, I've never had occasion to stop at this cute little caffe. The weather was very hot and I was wanting something cool and refreshing. I got a mocha frappe, one of my favorites and it was soooo delicious and refreshing. Bicyclers that bike the course along the SPD Reservoir often stop here and they say the smoothies are amazing. This place is run by a very nice family and the very friendly lady will make your drinks to your specifications. They have outdoor seating and are Covid responsible with hand sanitizers available as well as individually wrapped masks if their customers need them. They just resumed opening on Sundays again in addition to the other days. They also have sandwiches, salads, quiche, baked items and snacks. Take a tip from the bicyclers that stop here and say that the smoothies are amazing. read more

I enjoy finding new eateries, especially coffee spots with good sandwiches. I love sandwiches that have a "going home for the holidays" equivalent to Ike's. So here I go, scoping out a new spot that just so happens to have a turkey+cranberry sando. Well! It was definitely not what I was expecting. Here's what happened: - Pulled up to park in front of the establishment. Plus because there was no competition for parking. - came in to through the front doors to see several people seated to the left, looked like regulars. Saw additional seating to the right with a window view. - cute exterior, looked like a Dutch provincial style home. Interior looked a little outdated but homey. - large menu behind the register, plus for visibility - stood behind a middle-aged white couple before ordering. I was not acknowledged by the register person - cashier was probably the owner, Asian male late 40s/early 50s LOOKED ME UP AND DOWN like he was measuring my worth - took my order so scornfully I felt he was not going to give me my food. What I ordered: Cafe au lait + turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce on rye The sandwich was so lackluster, I've never had such a bland meal. The saving grace was the cranberry sauce. Way too much mayo. The mustard made it taste off but at least gave it SOME flavor. The turkey was boiled, no seasoning and the most insignificant amount of salt. Come on! It's turkey! Give it a little love! It's literally a flavor sponge based on what you put into it. I would NEVER come back here. It's really hard for me to give a place 1 star, but this place is definitely deserving of the low score. I'm sure the owners/servers treat their regulars (those who they perceive as AFFLUENT) with more dignity and respect. I, a Hispanic woman and paying customer, should also be treated with an equal amount of respect but I guess you can't teach people manners and courtesy! Here's a tip to the owners: SMILE AND GREET EVERYONE EQUAL AMOUNT OF CONSIDERATION! I was in yesterday and ordered a chicken curry sandwich on sourdough bread to eat there and a tuna salad sandwich on lite rye to go. Both sandwiches were bland and had no mayo in the bread which made for a dry eating experience. The sourdough bread was awful and I think might have been substituted with white bread. The description on the menu above the register made all the sandwiches sound really good. These were like bland hospital sandwiches. I will say there was a lot of chicken salad and tuna salad on each sandwich. I paid $32.50 which included 20% tip for these two sandwiches. I understand all costs have gone up. However, if a cafe is going to charge these prices they CAN do better with paying attention to flavor and not incur more cost with ingredients. I've wanted to try Geppetto's for a year or two based on favorable reviews and finally made it there today. Their weekend hours are oddly limited and that's when I'd more normally go. I had an egg and avocado sandwich on their widely-touted sunflower wheat bread. The bread was good, but the overall sandwich was lackluster. The egg was scrambled into a lump that occupied a fraction of the sandwich's chowable area and the avocado could have used something more than no seasoning at all. It was fine as sustenance but not an item that would bring me back regularly. I was left wondering if maybe the magic happens in their lunch selections, and will try to get back there and then update this review. Note that Orinda is a food desert where every eating establishment that's not the Safeway deli counter or the snack rack at Shell seems to snag an extra star just for showing up. This café was recommended from a co-worker in the area, I was very excited to sample the food. The customer service was awesome-staff was pleasant and attentive. However, I was extremely disappointed by the quality and presentation of the food. I ordered the open face tuna melt and the half/tuna sandwich. Figuring the staff advised that it took longer to prepare the tuna melt; my expectations were to be pleased with a beautiful tasty tuna melt-wrong. The 'melt' was a sad piece of bread with a lump of dry tuna placed on top with a slice of cheddar melted on it. The tuna was dry and not much flavor. So t have it also on a sandwich was 2 strikes, bad idea. Maybe I am out of touch with what a GOOD tuna melt is, but I know this should not be ok (see pics). The sandwich had NO condiments (i can live with that), but it was so dry, the entire lump fell out the sandwich when I lifted it to eat-super disappointing. I was embarrassed that this was the quality/presentation for a cute lil café in Orinda. And for the money paid $10.95/$6.95; this was a rip off. I could have gotten a better deal at Subway and at least their tuna isn't dry! read more
