First of all, the coffee is great! Peet's dark roast blends taste like good, flavorful coffee, not the weak brew of their well known competitors, who shall remain nameless ;) I truly enjoy the Lakeshore location. It was updated and expanded a number of years ago. It is lively with people enjoying the coffee culture, staff who work incredibly hard and importantly remain pleasant. A big plus is that there are quite a few other stores nearby, and the Farmer's market steps away on a Saturday morning. Lake Merritt is nearby if you are interested in a walk with your coffee. Per usual, great coffee. Service? Crappy. Well, recently, (new mgmt.?) it's a tad entitled and lazy. Also, there's a young Asian female at the register, who seems to be fairly new. She was wearing an arm 'sling'. She even got my name wrong. It's my 2nd time 'engaging' this entitled, lazy, 'pouty-princess' in the last 60 days. She's bad for the brand. The manager or supervisor (asian female, glasses) was a tad dismissive, arrogant. Something has, eh, 'shifted' at this locale. The bad 'smell' of gentrification. Sometimes you forget about the oldy-but-goody places we have in the East Bay that have managed to remain consistently fantastic over the decades. And the Peet's Lakeshore location is one of those gems. I used to frequent this Lake Merritt adjacent spot quite a bit back in the day, but like so many of us city dwellers do, we tend to live our lives within a few blocks of home. And to be sure, finding easy parking in Lakeshore is not always straight forward. But a recent trip out reminded me what I was missing. Lakeshore Peet's is one of the larger, original Peet's shops. They have a big, open, and bright space with plenty of seating. Lots of plugs for those needing a charge. Service is fast and friendly, which is important on weekend when the shop gets slammed for morning service. The retail side has plenty of beans and coffee-making supplies like filters, pots, and mugs. Perhaps best of all, Peet's Lakeshore is OPEN LATE till 8pm. Remember when coffee shops stayed open late?!? The freshly brewed java in store rotates regularly and almost always has a dark and medium roast available. And the espresso based drinks are prepared well. If you need some nibbles with your caffeine, the bakery case has the usual suspects throughout the day. (But let's be honest, the well-informed will walk their Peet' coffee directly across the street to Arizmendi Bakery or a few doors up-street to Colonial Donuts for the best accompaniments.) And with coffee and munchies secured, you are well-equipped for a Lakeshore stroll, and as well you should as this is a vibrant neighborhood full of shops, restaurants, and outstanding people watching. This is the first time in 17 years I've had such a terrible experience with Peet's coffee at Lake Shore. I ordered coffee online and arrived late to pick it up. When I went to ask about it, I don't know if it was a manager or an employee, but she was prejudiced and rude, she spoke harshly to me telling me my coffee was thrown away because i was late. The was my first time ever trying Peet's coffee and I can't believe how late I am lol My little sister works at the San Leandro location and she knows all the good drinks! Yesterday I had the matcha frappe with honey and cinnamon and it was BOMBBBBBB!!!! Once I like a drink, I stick to it. That is my new and only favorite. This location was vibe too. I've been to this location a few times and it was cold so I thought I'd hope in for a quick cup. There was a line but that's fine. I got up to the register and ordered a hazelnut latte with decaf espresso and oat milk. Employee was new-and he was the only one working the registers for some reason. Someone did come over to help but I was charged for a shot. At this point, I'm over it-I just want some coffee. The shot was mid. I've had some trouble at this location a few times. Employees are nice but the wait for drinks is usually long. There is plenty of places to sit and it seems to be a neighborhood staple. read more

I had a deal to use from the Peet's app, so I ordered an iced peppermint mocha, less ice, light chocolate syrup and light peppermint syrup, regular whipped cream, 2 shots, 2% milk, regular foam. The drink was ready according to the prediction time and it tasted pretty decent, even with my modifications it was still quite sweet but you can still taste a little bit of the coffee beneath. This location seemed to be pretty busy, I was also surprised how much bigger it was on the inside since it looks small on the outside. read more

This is probably my favorite Peet's location to do work, journal, and read in. It's spacious with lots of outlets and seating. There's always a good crowd that frequents, expect a longer line especially on Saturdays during the farmers market. Good and reliable place to stop in for a drink when you're running errands. As for drinks, my favorites are the oat chai latte, iced hibiscus tea, and hot mint tea. Cons: Parking is a a bit congested since it's a central location and shares a parking lot with Trader Joes and Walgreens. The bathrooms is not always maintained. I've also had 1 bad experience with a manager being terribly rude. I try to be understanding that it's a busier location, but scolding an employee and then being rude to customers under pressure was not okay. read more

This is becoming my favorite Peet's in the East Bay! It's huge inside, with lots of seating, available outlets, and free Wi-fi. One of the best coffeeshops to get some work or studying done. There's also a big window that faces the street for great natural light and casual people-watching when you get bored. Cons: There is only one bathroom with a code on it, and limited street parking or 1 hour lot parking. Also, if you sit at the big shared table, just know that you're inviting strangers to talk to you. I won't say much about the food and drink, because it's a Peet's and if you've tried it at one, you've basically tried it at them all. read more

Welcome to a Lakeshore neighborhood staple! I love this location. Peet's is a part of chain which to me means everything taste the same no matter what location you go to. But what sets this location apart is the customer service associates and the community it serves. The staff here always greet you when you come in and leave. They are nice and also patient. Sometimes I stray from my usual cold brew and try something new and they are great at making suggestions. The inside of the store is usually clean and the tunes are usually stellar! I buy Peet's coffee to make at home - but love to treat myself to a trip to this location. Thanks staff for always making my experience here delightful! This location is managed poorly. Not long after announcing that they were closing and people were clearing out of the shop my female companion needed to use the woman's restroom before we left. She was promptly told that she could not use the facilities. We were just paying customers moments ago, and became an inconvenient bother and were directed to go across the street to Chipotle and use their facilities when we spent our money with Peet's, and disrespected by the manager and staff cleaning up and in a hurry to end their shift! Customer service in this place is horrendous and I don't recommend anyone come to this place ever since a simple request to use their facilities by a who simply wanted to empty her bladder of the wretched coffee consumed at this establishment. Peet's offers a fully vegan breakfast sandwich so I stopped by to try it while visiting Oakland. The "Everything plant-based sandwich" ($6) is oddly satisfying and flavorful. It's the type of mass-market junk food that I wish Starbucks would finally launch in fully vegan form. I wouldn't go out of my way for this sandwich, as it's essentially a bunch of frozen foods (Just Egg, Beyond patty, Violife cheese, unknown bagel) reheated and served ready-to-go. But it does represent a type of convenience and reliability that was unknown to vegans before, say, 2018 or so. It's not a leap-forward in terms of creativity, but I enjoy the ease and cheapness of it. read more

Well, this is the thing about Peets. I went in, placed my order and was waiting for it. When it came, it didn't look nor taste like it did the previous times I had it. I ordered the black tie and the first time it was amazing. This one was good/okay. But the liquid poured into my cup looked like tea. This place is so much more spacious than it used to be. That is what I noticed. They also had plenty of space for people to sit and eat while working on a computer. They still had the same two entrances, but seeing the space let me know why my sister wanted to meet me there. The claustrophobic feeling from those past days is gone. read more

The workers at Peet's are all really nice people, except OMEGA (I believe that's her name, but for context she has blueish dyed hair) she has a very passive aggressive attitude and acts like she doesn't even want to be there. I visited Peet's Coffee today to have my drink remade. I wasn't rude or upset; it was more of an inconvenience, but for the $8.10, it was worth the 2nd drive out of my day. The cashier was pleasant; however, the barista, a relatively young woman who presented as white with colored, frizzy curls in a clip, was insolent and standoffish when her colleague handed her my drink. She began questioning me, and initially, I thought she just wanted to ensure my order was perfect. So, I calmly requested that my drink be warm. To my surprise, she became agitated, pointing out that it was an option on the menu. Her reaction took me aback, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I replied, "Yes, I know it's an option, but the drink was scorching hot." Instead of acknowledging my feedback, she decided to ignore my comment. She turned to the mobile order screen and began browsing through the list of drinks; all the while, my latte's milk was steaming. Then, she asked me, "Did you order it from this location?" I responded with a sense of perplexity but confidence, "No, I ordered it from the Oakland Hills location. Is there a problem?" She said, "No."She handed me my drink without making eye contact, almost as if I had been rude to her. Nevertheless, I smiled and said, "Thank you," and "Have a good day." She chose not to respond. Peet's, you need to improve not only your products but also the abysmal customer service I experienced today. This Peet's is a great location on Lakeshore. Huge, clean and full of great customer service so I really enjoyed my morning there. Even though there was a line, I wasn't bothered by it. So many different kinds of people coming in and out just for their cup of coffee or pastry or tea. It's amazing the diversity here, I loved it. I had a nice quick conversation with the barista who took my order (and loved my Beyoncé shirt cuz she has great taste). I'd come back just for the friendly faces! I got a mocha latte and after a short wait I got the most delicious cup. Well made, foamy and full. Probably my favorite cup of coffee from Peet's so far, like I've had it for the first time. Very satisfied with my visit even though it was a busy time. I'd come back again if I'm in the area. And there's so much to do over there too. Try not to overwhelm your wallet! I do enjoy going next door and grabbing a donut too just to go with the cup of joe. read more

The cashier Sheldon was great unfortunately my drink was cold and two others complained about their coffees as well so there is something about the coffee that might have indicated it was stale or just sitting there for a long period of time and although they offered to brew French fresh batch they said it would take about 25 minutes and due to a conflicting appointment I couldn't wait that long and they didn't offer to give me a refund or give me an espresso drink in exchange. read more
