Sunny weekends, for me, mean getting out to the coast. On such an excursion down to Santa Cruz & points beyond, I stopped here to caffeinate. Because, I love Peet's coffee! Pulling into the parking lot, there were plenty of spaces right in front. Walking in the door, however, I immediately found the back of the line to order. Being located in a shopping center at the intersection of Highways 1 & 92, this Peet's gets a lot of traffic. Even though the line was about a dozen deep, service went relatively quickly & smoothly. & I used my Yelp app check-in offer to get $1 off a featured drink, anything coconut this time. I got a Coconut Black Tie & it was yum. With sweet delicious caffeine in hand, it was time to continue motoring down the 1 & taking in the fresh ocean air with the top down. I honestly don't like the drinks at any Peet's really. I just don't like the taste and I have tried many times. But I have to write a good review for them because the times I have been there, the employees are SO nice and welcoming! The COVID-19 procedures are being followed. The last time I was there, they had the old manager from Starbucks. I forget her name but she left Starbucks a couple of years ago for Peet's and she was the best thing Starbucks ever had going for them. So it's no surprise the Peet's staff is good. read more

Yes, it is a Peet's chain, but I honestly have a hard time finding good, convenient coffee in HMB. Located in a strip mall of sorts, it isn't the most picturesque location. However, I like that they have outdoor seating, free WiFi and the service has always been friendly. Last time I was here I asked for two large cups of boiling water to make my Cup O Noodles (sometimes I just crave these!). I offered to pay for the cups, but the nice woman behind the counter didn't charge and I got to enjoy my noodles down by the beach later. read more

Amazing drinks!!! They blew us away with the amazing flavors in the drink! My bf loved his Peppermint Mocha and put him in the holiday spirt! Stopped by on our way home to grab some hot drinks while trying to wait for the traffic to die down. The baristas are quick but lack the enthusiam that somebody needs when working in a customer service place. This Peets is big compared to your usual coffee shops with plenty of seating for the caffeine fanatic. FREE WIFI, large parking area since its located in a shopping center where New Leaf Market and Rite Aid are. Oh and ladies room is duurty. Coffee is decent (when made correctly) and facilities are setup effectively for Covid. I came to review based upon the past 5 or 6 pickup experiences. When I first started getting my coffee from here, there were no issues. But recently they have been slipping with their coffee preparation. Every once in awhile I can understand having a mistake or oversight, but this has been every time recently. First, they have not been mixing the drinks. If I order a latte, I don't expect to see a large section of coffee sitting on top of the milk. I have been having to ask them to stir it every time because if I do it with the straw inevitably some will spill. Don't need or want that mess in the car. Today, I took a big sip of the iced latte, and got a mouthful of coffee grinds and lumps of soy. I asked for a remake, and it was the exact same (picture is the remake to correct the first). I don't know if the baristas just have Covid burnout or what, but the quality has suffered recently. read more

Either Starbucks or Peet's, I choose Peet's for this particular location for some reasons good enough for me. I definitely love how big and spacious this Peet's location was unlike San Francisco where I think square footage is reduced due to real estate and rent. Because of feeling spacious, it felt more relaxing and the pace of life a bit steady. Had a soy latte with a friend where we might have spent nearly a hour just chatting away. The bathrooms (of course, women's restroom since I am not a man) were surprisingly pretty clean for a coffee shop although someone did not flush the toilet after doing their business *ahem*. At least i was nice (and had no choice but) to flush it for them. read more

Sarah here is rude, incompetent and left myself and 2 other couples in disgust at how she treated my husband and I. Kicked us out after we ordered food and my husband is law enforcement so we are sure that was part of the reason. Two other couples saw how she spoke to us and left after seeing how we were treated as well. Called and emailed corporate and they have yet to get back to me. I have been coming here regularly since I moved to the area a couple years back and feel qualified to give a decent review based on hundreds of visits. This Peet's has my favorite team in the area. Did some competitive barista work years ago - though their espresso quality suffers occasionally, this location has a pretty great team. Fast, friendly, efficient, don't shrug or roll eyes when I have to ask them for something on my way out. They have handled Covid incredibly professionally and all deserve a massive raise for working under these hazardous conditions and maintaining quality and hospitality standards. A note about the espresso, I imagine pulling perfect shots is relatively difficult with the humidity and fluctuating temps here on the coast, I don't think it's an issue of the technicians at all. They likely use auto-tamping espresso grinders which takes even more of any blame away from the baristas in the rare case of less than gorgeous espresso. Again, I've never had a shot here that I felt was subpar. Overall, management I know you're reading these. They were out of the blend I wanted. When I asked for an alternative the very sweet person who waited on me told me she doesn't drink coffee. I asked if perhaps someone else could help. The next person told me she would have to look it up on the computer, with the implication being that it would be a lengthy wait. It wasn't busy. There was one person who bought a pound of coffee in front of me and there wasn't anyone waiting behind me. Apparently the knowledgeable folks work a different shift because I have had quality service in this location before. But today was terribly disappointing. I live out of town. The closest Peet's is more than 30 minutes from my home and is just a kiosk, not a coffee store. So I usually buy a couple of pounds whenever I stop at this location. Here's a new one: I discovered a ring of old coffee in the bottom of my porcelain coffee cup. I had just "enjoyed" my pricey drink from a dirty cup. Dirty bathroom, again. Management on life-support? A month ago I couldn't get coffee in a porcelain cup. The barista said that a manager had said there were too many and had tossed some out. Old review:I am a very frequent customer and have noticed a steep decline in this Peet's in the past few months. Once clean and tidy, it is now often not, floors dirty, restrooms without paper and waste cans over-flowing. Numerous times I've been shorted on ground coffee when employees neglect to tap the remaining grounds out of the grinder. Coffee is good. Baristas are good but they do not seem to be supported. My BFF like to have a night away at least once a year together to have some time sans husbands and daughters. This time, we were in Half Moon Bay and of course, part of our ritual is to have coffee together and we were thrilled that there was a Peet's! We came here twice once for an afternoon pick me up and once for our morning fix. Both times we came, we noticed this was not a very busy location and I am not sure as to why. Both times coming I was happy-great foam on my morning latte and a perfect pot of Pumphrey's Blend for my afternoon tea. They had a long table/ high counter by the line and a group of about 6 young adults were socializing and drinking coffee right next to the patrons standing in a slow line to order. This Peet's is our go to spot to grab a cuppa on the coast because it is super convenient. It may not be the best, but it is passable at least. The guy at the counter was cool and took our orders promptly. Astrid got a Lapsang Souchong loose leaf tea while I ordered a double espresso macchiato. Since S***bucks, 'the store that cannot be named' came on the scene with their bastardized macchiato (which is just a poorly made latte with whipped cream and some overly sweetened artificial flavor) it seems no one can make a proper macchiato. A macchiato is one or two shots simply 'marked' with foam. Astrid's tea came out post haste and I patiently waited for my coffee to be made. The barista called my name and proudly presented me with my drink. It looked a bit strange. It was frothy and GREEN. Somehow she confused a Matcha Green Tea Latte with a macchiato. I asked her to try again. A few minutes go by and she calls me back to the counter presenting me with a small cup full to the rim with steamed milk and espresso. I politely told her that this was referred to as a 'cappuccino' and asked her to start over...again. Her third attempt was what can only be described as a bitter, burnt, bubbly mess of a coffee drink. The double shot was pulled for too long and the milk wasn't steamed as much as the steaming wand was merely waved over the top of the milk and best wishes were given. The scowl on my face must have been apparent. She looked at me sheepishly. She knew she failed miserably. Her right hand went fishing into her apron pocket and handed me a card entitling me to a free coffee. I knew immediately I had stumped her and I knew from this gesture that she wouldn't be making a fourth attempt. I took my pathetic excuse for a macchiato and left the store. I appreciate what others say about Peet's being corporate and squeezing out the quirky little local coffee shops. I do my fair share of local cafe hanging out, so I don't feel guilty about patronizing Peet's -- the original anti-corporate coffee shop. read more

Within 5 minutes of entering this establishment I managed to drop a jar of tea leaves. I had picked it up by the lid, which apparently wasn't screwed on tightly enough. I am a Peetaholic, a coffee sob, even if I'm not an official Peetnik. I was so excited to find Peet's on our way into HMB for our BFF weekend. Then when I tasted the coffee they give away for free at the hotel I as doubly appreciative to have Peet's close by! This location is large and would be sunny, what with two walls of windows, if there was sun in HMB. The staff was nice enough and the drinks quite good. We even hung out and chitty chatted for a long while one day. We were in HMB for 24 hours and had the chance to go here more than once. read more

I might have come too soon (it's a new location) because they don't seem to be fully set up yet. They had maybe 10 pastries in the case and were low on coffee beans too. Even though it wasn't crowded, it seemed like no one had cleaned off the tables in quite some time and there were crumbs all over the floor as well. Once they get their act together, it should be a good location because (1) it's larger than average with tons of seats, (2) on site bathrooms. They should add a sign so that you can see it from Hwy 1. It took me awhile to find it. It's in a run down old shopping center, the one with Rite Aid and Straw Hat Pizza. read more

Don't get me wrong, I am usually a Peet's fan. But today I went by the Half Moon Bay location at 7:30 PM and it was closed even though it clearly stated on the window that it was open until 8:00PM. The workers are friendly and the coffee is good, which compelled me to return several times. However the layout of the store is off-putting. Essentially, the seating area is too large and empty and leaving the store feels like running a gauntlet. I shouldn't feel like I'm crossing the finish line in a marathon just after I bought a coffee. This is not a "deal breaker", but I've said many times, whomever Peet's hired to lay out their stores needs to be fired. read more

Better than the best! Their coffee is excellent and in addition to my favorites on occasion I'm enjoying new (to me) brews and presentations. Location is great and I often meet my friends there. Here's the clincher: A while back my Yelp of the place was much like the above but I'd knocked off a couple of stars because the naugahyde seating had tears in it. Presto. I Love Peet's! This is my go to place in half moon bay. This location is clean and staff is friendly. Coffee comes out fairly fast and the location is pretty big in size. The atmosphere here isn't crazy like at Starbucks down the street. The coffee is yummy, it's not too sweet unlike at Starbucks where it's all sugary. read more

Pretty disappointed with this place. We came to HMB on a day trip from the South Bay and this coffee shop pretty much summed up the whole town: white, a bit trashy, and weird. The barista was jerk pretty much and the coffees were too sour and acidic. We should have stopped in the Mobile station to get drip coffees instead... they would have tasted better. The customers at this store are, as I mentioned, fairly weird and trashy in that left-coast white trash kinda way. Will definitely not be coming back here or to HMB again. read more

I'm a Coastsider. I've been a Coastsider for over 15 years. I like the small-townishness of Half Moon Bay most of the time, but I am really glad to see good-neighbor businesses like Peet's move in, especially since the landlord there is such a jerk. (the former tenant found out his month-to-month lease was not being renewed from another tenant, not the landlord!) Anyway, the staff is open and friendly, all the goodness of Peet's is there, and there's a lot of room for chess games, write-ins, and other such things in the copious space and clean tables. The shopping center is a bit run-down, but that will be changing soon when New Leaf Community Market moves in next spring. read more
