It's been a while for me to walk into our Starbucks to place the order due to the convenience of the mobile app. It's also a bad thing because you don't get to see the crew there and yet no interaction. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Last time I was here, it was really chaotic and the crew was not the same.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Today, I'd say after at least 6yrs, I walk into this store and place my order because I have a question about the customization of my drink. I left a review 11yrs ago (I live in the area so this is always my Starbucks) and I see the crew I saw back then. Of course, not the exact same people, but the energy, the vibe, the enthusiasm for the custom service, and the gold standard that always make Starbucks different. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am sitting down here to enjoy my drink and can hear the hustle and bustle but not chaos.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Every crew member works together and make sure all customers got the order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I hope to see this to stay because that's how I used to enjoy sitting in a Starbucks store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Keep up the good work. You definitely got a long lost customer back.

I'll give them a generous 4 star cause I have no idea what the local standards are. Points for seating, which seems to have disappeared in most San Francisco stores because they fear their residents. I don't know what it is about Starbucks, but I've never been in one that didn't have a large footprint & badly designed layout. This store has I nice patio with 3 tables in front, off the sidewalk. Inside you walk through the vast empty space except for the weird water bottle display you have to walk around. Maybe it's an interior design feature. There are 3 tables on each wall, and large arty photographs. At the very back is the order counter. The cashier was super friendly, big smile, seemed to be sincere & not on uppers. Maybe highly caffeinated. I'm assuming everyone was a local, only 1 woman staring at her laptop, everyone else was loudly socializing. Loud because the music was even louder. I ordered a Passion Fruit iced tea sans sugar. $3.75. $2 tip. Then a Cheese & Fruit Box. Unlike some Starbucks, the cheese was fresh, the apple wasn't brown, & the grapes weren't sour. Well, Burlingame. By 12:30 on a Monday all the chairs were taken as the store morphs in to Laptop Village. I'm hanging out here while my car gets detailed, there's only one other cafe open. And there's nothing else open at 11am. These 3 blocks are suburban boring as hell.

Maison Alyzée is a French fine pastry bakery café located on downtown Burlingame's main strip. Dedicated to providing customers with a Parisian escape through handcrafted elegant pastries and artisanal breads, the bake shoppe doubles as pâtisserie and boulangerie, priding itself on meticulous attention to detail. Upon entry, we were welcomed by a brightly lit and very clean venue. Ray and I were immediately drawn to the beautiful marble-topped white counter that encased a gorgeous variety of exquisite treats. The commitment to the elegance of French culture and modern creativity were evident in every luxurious pastry and cake on display. Maison Alyzée is an order-at-the-counter establishment, so we made our purchase with a friendly staff member at the register. Unfortunately, we were told that espresso drinks were no longer available that night since the staff had already begun cleaning the machines. Ok....I never understand businesses that start shutting down things before closing time. This just shows customers that team convenience of closing shop quickly takes precedence over customer experience, essentially omitting availability of items from the menu while they are still open. For this reason, I am docking a star. Luckily, they still had some cold brew available, so I ordered a Lavender Cold Brew with oat milk. Heads-up: Plant-based milks like almond and oat milk incur a $0.75 surcharge. I wish that the lavender was more like a simple syrup, so that the flavour was sweeter and less sharp. Maison Alyzée also offers a selection of breakfast, lunch, and brunch options. I definitely need to return to try one or two or a few of their ostentatious delights.

I visited Maison Alyzee in Burlingame on a Saturday morning, and while the pastries were good, the service felt cold and dismissive. There was no rush, yet the staff was not warm or welcoming. I asked for my raisin au pain to be warmed up, and after waiting outside for about 10 minutes with no update, I went back in to ask. The response was "It's in the oven" was delivered rudely, as though my simple question was an inconvenience. Even when a café is busy, basic courtesy and communication should not be optional. Good food deserves to be matched by good hospitality.
