My favorite winery of the weekend... good white and red options and a beautiful shaded deck overlooking the countryside below. It gets busy early on the weekend and you'll need to be here before 12 if you want to score yourself one of the lounge seats on the deck... very dog friendly, you can take your pampered pooch into the tasting room as long as they are on a leash and are well behaved which was awesome!! We did a quick tasting, settled on a glass of the Reserve Viognier and a glass of the Tempranillo and parked ourselves on the deck for the next 90 minutes sipping and soaking up the sunshine. Prices are a little on the steep side but this was also some of the better wine I tasted all weekend. Great place to bring a picnic, grab a bottle and people watch! read more

We joined the reds only club! This winery is only 3 years old-- very classy & still has the TX charm. The hospitality and service was second to none! Dora hooked us up HUGE! ....Joined the club on the spot and walked out w our first shipment! They really take care of their members--an amazing value of red wine for the money... I am a wine club member and went for a special dinner/ wine paring yesterday. The service was rushed and less than friendly and the wine was less than fabulous this time too. The dinner was not impressive to my tastes. Couscous salad and some kind of a salmon salad thing... It was not even great with the wine :( heck, just give me some cheeses, crackers, and a little fruit. To be fair, I am not a big Salmon fan...My last visit was far nicer so maybe it was just a hectic day but we all RSVPed for this event and they should have been better prepared. What should have been a fun afternoon with friends quickly went downhill when we got to Pedernales Cellers. The staff was incredibly rude and disrespectful. Instead of a fun relaxing afternoon tasting wine, we were made to feel inferior. I am very disappointed in the hospitality of a business that makes money off of customer service. On the way to Fredericksburg for a girls' weekend, we stopped at Pedernales Cellars upon a family friend's recommendation. We decided to do the wine tasting of 7 wines selected by the winery for $12.95/person and included the tasting glass. The staff (Jeremy in particular) was very friendly and really took the time to inform us about the wine we were tasting. He really made our experience. Honestly, without him, I would not have rated as high. We really lucked out that he was there and decided to spend his time with us. Although the wine is a little more expensive than other wineries, it is very, very good. Pedernales just can't produce as much wine as these other big name wineries, and therefore, can't charge the same low prices. I will definitely be supporting Texas wineries going forward! read more

Came here with a group of African American women for a wine tour. Granted we were 15 minutes late for our tasting, however the room was still not ready for our party. Towards the end of our tasting one of the ladies shouted out that we had to hurry up because we were late (even though they weren't ready). We were a party if 22 women and the group after us had a party of 9. Afterwards the cashier approached our organizer in front of the group announcing how much money was due for our tasting.....unprofessional and classless. Our experience was horrible. The scenery is beautiful, but the customer service is awful. No one in our party bothered to purchase any wines from this facility as a result of the service. read more

Great place! Booked a wine tasting as part of a bachelorette party. They have a separate wine tasting room that we reserved and it definitely made our group feel special. The staff were so nice. Kyle served our group and he was awesome. We were a few minutes late, about 3, and felt a little rushed to get out of the reserved room because of the next party coming in. But we bought a few bottles of wine after and stayed in the main room. The vineyard is lovely and I wish we could of enjoyed the patio out front. It was just too windy. I would definitely recommend this place! Wine tasting was $15, included 6 wines on the menu and 1 holiday wine (this was a surprise and was delicious) and then signature wine glass. read more

First vineyard I visited during my trip to Fredericksburg. Pedernales is 13miles outside of Fredericksburg and on your way if you're coming from Austin. The tasting room is very small compared to others which might be a problem in the future when they become more popular. They charge $13/9 tastings and you get to keep the glass. They have very spicy reds which I do not like, but their Viognier was superb! I walked out with 2 bottles at $15/bottle. The area is extremely quiet with nothing but wind. Entire a good bottle on their huge patio in the front. Good place to visit! read more

Since we first visited Perdanales cellars three years ago we fell in love with the wines as well as the breathtaking views of the hill country. It seems we always go when the weather is perfect for sitting on the porch and enjoying one of the incredible bottles of wine. There are the reasons we decided to have our wedding reception on the back porch. What a day it was! They got an entertainer from Austin who was perfect for the occasion. My bride worked with Nathan who prepared eight light dishes that were delightful and pared with all the wines in an manner I cant describe. The entire staff was superb. Top class food, wife and service. To top ot off, they made a special wine label to celebrate the occasion. Dont moss thos gem on the 290 wine road. read more

I've visited Pedernales 3 times over the years and every visit disappoints from a hospitality perspective; their employees are uneducated on the wines, are rude, and overall, simply unwelcoming. It's a pity because their wines are quite nice and the setting is beautiful. read more

On June 28th, my family and I took a limousine tour of the Texas wine country. I have been to the Pedernales Cellars tasting room on several occasions, but this time I was very disappointed. In the past I have been very happy with the experience, but not so this time. Our pourer could not have been less attentive. I realize they were quite busy, but we were prepared to buy several bottles and were interested in having a good tasting experience. The pourer was rushed to pour our tastings, to the point that she very nearly poured a red wine into an unfinished pour of white. She seemed put off when I asked her to rinse my glass because there was a lot of sediment left behind from a previous pour. She also reacted as if she was being inconvenienced by having to wait for a person in our party to finish their pour before she could start the next. By wait, I mean of course that she had poured the last tasting a total of 30 seconds prior. Roughly half-way through our tasting a large bachelorette party arrived next to us at the bar, and our pourer was substantially more interested in gossip with the girls than she was with finishing our tasting. It was frustrating to watch immature giggling and gossip while waiting with empty glasses, particularly after feeling so rushed for the first half of the tasting. This is somewhat upsetting, since I have been to Pedernales several times and have purchased bottles in the past. They have a wonderful product, but I fear the tasting room is lacking on customer service. To add insult to injury, the evening after visiting I sent this comment in an email to their customer service contact. It is now two weeks later and I have not seen any kind of response. I'm not trying to get a perks out of this, but a simple confirmation that I've been heard and my concerns are being addressed would be great. I'm afraid I won't be back to visit or patronize Pedernales Cellars in the future. read more

Came here for my very first wine tasting (ever). The tasting room was very crowded and took a while to spot a place at the bar. The man who served us started off well enough, he was courteous and detailed about the first couple of wines we tried but then seemed to lose interest and wandered off coming back a few minutes later. While we were tasting the last couple of wines we were told (very rudely) to move to the other side of the bar so they could accommodate another party, which is fine, but there was plenty of room on the other side of the bar- why move us? Well once we moved that was the end, no one came over to help or offer our last glass of wine- we had to wave some one down. Now, I'm not a wine lover but I can appreciate a nice wine, I didn't find one here. read more

If you live in central Texas, your stay is not complete until you at least take a day to enjoy the vineyards around here...I had NO idea how much Texas of all places is such a wine country..who knew grapes can survive this awful heat here?! A friend of ours invited us to stay at their place at Marble Falls which is a fantastic town just on the outskirts of Austin and while we were there decided to go ahead and peruse the vineyards that were around. Our first stop was Pedernales Cellars. I read the yelp reviews beforehand and alot of it was complaints of their facility but when we were there a few weeks ago (~mid April 2012), it seemed nice and finished...not extravagant but streamline and clean, and a bit empty of decor kind of like a church reception hall. Obviously we werent there for the ambience but you got to admit, wine does taste mush more special if the ambience suits it and Pedenales did come off as a bit sterile....but since this was our first stop, the wine tasting actually went well. We had a fantastic and informative wine server and she was extremely friendly. You get a mix of reds and whites to sample and of course you get to keep the glass. We ended up buying a red that we sampled. Again, not bad for a first stop but after experiencing the other vineyards surrounding it, Pedernales ranks pretty much in the middle. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID! I was planning a visit on Saturday, November 2nd, with a group of 14 people so I knew that I would need to make a reservation. I called a week ahead of time and was told that since we did not wish to do an actual tasting that a reservation would not be necessary and that we would be able to come in and buy bottles of wine/ sit outside and enjoy the view. When we arrived, we were very rudely greeted by Melanie (said she was the Manager?,) who noted that because we did not have a reservation that we would not even be able to stay and purchase wine and sit outside. I was extremely taken aback as there was probably about ~20-30 people total at the entire place and they could clearly accommodate 14 more people outside ( I even offered to have our group sit on picnic blankets). I would think that no vineyard/ winery in Fredricksburg would want to lose out on ~$300 in 1-2 hours; however, clearly customer service is not part of Pedernales Cellars hiring process, as Melanie should be fired immediately. I truly feel bad for the Owners, as I'm sure they would not have wanted to lose out on the business. While Pedernales does have a great view, I highly highly suggest going elsewhere. We went to 3 other vineyards that day and all were extremely welcoming/inviting. There are so many options that it is not worth wasting your time or money at a place that just simply does not understand business or customer service. Unfortunately, I've had to pass along the bad experience to many of my fellow Austinites looking to make the trip out to Frederickburg--luckily the remainder of that Saturday was filled with many great wineries to recommend! read more

I love this vineyard! It's relatively new but the wines are fantastic and definitely some of the better ones I've tried in the area. Our tastemaster (I don't know what they call them) Bob was awesome, so knowledgeable and patient with our big group. I felt rushed and didn't learn as much as at other vineyards but here I really got the chance to learn about the grapes from different regions in Texas. I thought the property was beautiful and even more spacious then I realized. Can't wait to visit this one again! read more

This was second stop on our texas wine tours afternoon tour. The setting on the hill with shady deck had a real vineyard feel. It was the best vineyard feel of any vineyard we visited. We thoroughly enjoyed their wines including the GSM! Will definitely have to come back on future trips to the area. read more

This is NOT a review of the wine, but a complaint about the VERY POOR condition of the facilities on our visit last week. We have visited this location numerous times over 5+ years, & never experienced the conditions we did on this visit. The deck & furniture were FILTHY, with clearly visible bird droppings on tables & seating surfaces. The staff could not tell you the last time the deck & seating was FACTUALLY cleaned. "IF" this place is supposed to have a Manager, the owners need to have a SERIOUS talk with the person. Dirty, dumpy & sloppy facilities on this last visit. read more

Visited this winery during our spring break week and must say it is a beautiful place and they offer a mini tour. The wine overall was quite dry and tasted decent. The lady pouring our wine was slow, it was a bit busy but we had faster service everywhere else. Did not leave here with wine but had a good experience and definently love the location of the property. read more

Wonderful wines! David taught us so much about the growing process. I usually only drink reds, so I was surprised that I liked their whites and dessert wine. I loved the Viognier, Tempranillo Reserve and Moscato. We will definitely come back when we are in the area. read more

One of the absolute worst experiences I have ever had at a place of business. My friends and I were eager to try this place out and even more excited when the owner came out, but we were disappointed in a big way. The owner, or face or this business, was completely rude directly to my face. She called my friends and I an assortment of names and made us feel like subordinates rather than paying customers. I personally was looking forward to frequenting perdenales cellars with my husband José on the weekends, but our first time there we experienced very bad customer service from an employee named Julie. She was very rude towards my hubby and I, we were taken aback by this because I have a sister named Julie who is a total sweetheart. Anyways, Julie is a total meanie, she probably hates puppies, and is a vegan. Don't go to perdenales cellars. We loved our experience here from start to finish. A spacious tasting room with good lighting and plenty if counter space. Best of all, we were assisted by a woman who knew a good amount about the wine and you could tell she truly was proud of it. We enjoyed just about everything we were poured and purchased 6 bottles to be shipped home. This experience made up for the awful wine down the road at Torre de Pietra. I will definitely be recommending to anyone who drives through here. It's worth a stop! My only recommendation to them would be that if you spend $200 on bottles of wine, they should really comp the tastings. read more

After hearing many great things about Pedernales, I went in with my husband to check out the wine. The woman that greeted us was very hostile, when we walked in there was a group ahead of us being assisted by her and as soon as they walked away she came up to us and asked "did you hear what i just told them?" We of course had not since we were talking to each other and checking out the view, she proceeded to tell us the price on the tasting and asked if we wanted to taste or buy a bottle. We showed up an hour after openning therefore we did not understand why she didnt care to say welcome and explain but rather made us feel like we were bothering them by just being there. She then took us to the counter since we had decided on tastings, the server felt a little uptight, now we understand that not everyone is "charismatic" but she sounded robotic, she seemed uncomfortable and made the whole tasting experience unenjoyable. We will never go back and do not recommend it. read more

This is a lovely location, and I enjoyed the drive trough the countryside to arrive for the tastings. This was a more formal tasting, with a greeter and a programmatic approach to the tasting. I really enjoyed the wines themselves, but found the experience lacking in warmth somewhat. For example, the sales pitch for the wine club wasn't subtle. All that said, I could have been working with someone having an "off" day, and hope you'll give this winery a try for yourselves! read more

Remember the biggest disappointment in your life....well it happened today! It started with the fact we had a reservation set at 2pm and we arrived early, we were seated at the bench and were asked to wait. There were 3 other parties given wine immediately upon arrival and told to sit wherever they pleased, I know this because I watched it happen from the bench! At 2:15 we were taken to our table and told that our wine pourer would be over soon. A few moments later this man shows up and pours two tastings, never offered water and read from the sheet given to us. He walked off. Less then two minutes later he was back with the next pour, we had to ask for a dump bucket, he came back and gave us a wine glass and said they had no dump buckets. This happened the next three pours, until on the 5th pour I said please give us a minute. Our tasting lasted a total of 30 minutes at the most and was given the impression we were in a rush! The wine pourer had zero personality and offered no conversation whatsoever. We were all extremely dissatisfied with this experience and will not be back to Pedernales! Sad too, the atmosphere and view all appeared to be amazing! Too bad we were rushed or we might have made a purchase! read more

This was the first stop on our wine tour. The wine here is okay. Everyone on the tour agreed their Christmas port was the best offering. This winery offers a very pretty view. The serving sizes here did appear to be very small compared to other wineries and the servers did not seem as knowledgeable. read more
