Let me start by saying to get the best experience here, do not go on a weekend! We really enjoyed our visit on a slow Thursday afternoon. We were tipped off by a local to visit this winery, take the kids and bring a picnic lunch for the beautiful views. The kids enjoyed running around on the vast grounds and we enjoyed the beautiful views! Next we did a tasting and I have to agree with some other reviewers on the value vs what your actually getting. It's quite pricey. Non the less, we purchased a couple of descent red bottles of wine that I'm looking forward to enjoying with my next steak. The staff was super kind and friendly. You can tell they have been well versed on how to treat a customer. We will return even if it does make a if dent in our wallet. read more

Very friendly people. Good wine. Lovely setting. Like all Texas wine though, it really isn't a good value. The price point for bottles of wine is out of pace with the market--you could buy three comparable or better bottles from Spain or Argentina for the price of a Pedernales wine. Novelty is really the only reason to buy wine here. But, I definitely recommend a tasting. I don't think Texas vineyards will ever be anything more than a quaint weekend destination for non-wine drinkers. **I'm editing this post because it seems that I didn't express myself clearly, based on the response of the vineyard. I'm not looking to purchase $10 wine. I believe that $50 wine from Pedernales tastes like $10 wine from other growing regions. Texas wine is fun, but it's a terrible value. This isn't a criticism, but more an FYI for people who visit the vineyard but aren't wine savvy. There are lots of reasons to buy Pedernales wine, but it's not because it's a good value. read more

Mrs. B and I recently took in a wine tasting here. Beware, the tastings are over $12 per person, and they will not let you use that amount against a purchase of a bottle of wine. They do give souvenir glasses as part of the tasting, for what that's worth. We thought the wines were all really good. I can't remember if all of their grapes are from local sources, but I remember they make an attempt to make "local" wines. We had visited a few other wineries at this point, so some of the details may be a little cloudy. We took with us a bottle of their tempranillo, which wasn't cheap, but it was very good. We didn't have time to take a tour of the barrel room, which they do once every couple hours on the weekends. This was a good experience at Pedernales, and I would recommend it. read more

So, I guess "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" is somewhat of a glorified label for this Texas winery. I mean, my rating is relative to what I thought during my tour of 6 Hill Country boozeries. Napa still blows Texas out of the water, but Pedernales was my favorite of the day. This tasting room may quite possibly have the most inviting ambiance of all of these places to booze during my Texas Wine Country trail. Although this establishment is smaller than most, the staff here was the most friendly one during my tour. The low key atmosphere gave the place an intimate feel, to boot. You really felt like you were in someone's (fairly modern and sleek) home. Furthermore, the wines here were certainly the best wines of the our afternoon. Viognier: very crisp and clean with no oakiness. Very citrus forward with a touch of mellowness. Merlot: smoother than most, but less complexity than most Merlots Tempranillo: a touch of spiciness, earthy. Very drinkable on its own for a bold Spanish wine. My review would actually be 4.5 stars for the regular tasting, easily going to 5 for the "Reserve Room" experience (Sat-Sun by appointment). The cost almost doubles ($25) but this is readily offset by the quality of the wines being offered as well as the individualized attention and education provided. Bill was able to provide us with great insights into the awesome wines being tasted as well anexcellent overview of the ever-changing wine landscape in Texas and a couple of great recommendations for other "hidden gems" to investigate locally. We have given this winery several chances only to be met with grumpy and elitist staff each time. If you're not a member, they do not care about your experience. Pedernales is beautiful, you pull in through the gate and see horses grazing. You feel like you driving to some rich person's house. This place is kind of tricky to find if you miss the side street to get here. We drove by it. For 12.95 you can try all the wines they make. They have a really small tasting counter and it is somewhat high for a petite gal like myself. The wines were not that impressive to me and offer no real substance. The lady behind the counter seemed like a robot when we asked her questions about the wine. She seemed to have memorize the handbook and just repeated it. We decided to buy a bottle anyway, just so we can enjoy the outdoor area since it was so nice. When we asked what was best to pair, she gave us a generic textbooks answer. Ok, thanks for your help. Meh. It's off the main highway and very pretty, especially the large patio. However, it was $13.95 for nine wines, which sounds like a good deal except you got barely a sip, were rushed, and not paid attention to. You get to keep the wine glass, but it was a dinky one. If you were cruising there with your parents, this might be a good stop, or maybe if you had a favorite here and wanted to sit outside an enjoy the day...otherwise, not high on my list. They did offer tours of the place which might have enhanced my experience but we passed. read more

Visited Pedernales with some friends today, and they definitely get marks for hospitality and service! Jeremy went out of his way to make us feel welcome, and in addition he seemed really to "know" his wine. We planned on having a picnic on their small outdoor deck - but as we arrived it began to rain, literally putting a damper on our plans. We asked Jeremy if we might use his "reserved" room and were delighted when he said we might do so for about an hour or so. So, after tasting our first three (white) wines we purchased a bottle of same ($20) and enjoyed our picnic before moving on to three reds. Of the six tastings, I truly liked and purchased one of each -- the others not so much. Pedernales charges what seems to be the local standard - $12 for 6 tastings, and the etched souvenir glass is a take-home. When I'm in the area -- and I will be as we drove past a number of other wineries we just couldn't manage -- I plan to drop in on Pedernales again. If you're in the area, we recommend giving them a try. read more

What a great time I had here! Big big thanks to Andrea who did our tasting - she was great! Not only funny and entertaining but very knowledgeable about the wines! The tasting room isn't huge but we easily found a place and enjoyed each wine we tasted - they do a 9-wine tasting here. I purchased 3 bottles but enjoyed many more and then we bought a bottle to enjoy out on the huge deck. (Some soft music would be nice but we just used our iPhone which was fine). I thought this was great and would absolutely recommend making it a stop if you are out in wine country :) read more

We really enjoyed this winery. Their excellent Viognier Reserve, Tempranillo, and Albarino along with the beautiful setting made for an outstanding experience. The grounds and the view are beautiful....sitting outside on a sunny but cool fall day sipping wine is perfection. Wine tasting was available by appointment only....we made the 25 minute drive from Fredricksburg and was glad that I had made reservations. The six tastings started with 2 whites (the second was quite good and I am not a white wine fan), then a rose, followed by 3 reds. The Pedernales Tempranillo from H‑E‑B is one of my favorite wines, but the Tempranillo served at the cellars is much much better. Then we got a bonus tasting of their Christmas wine. The server was busy - the only one working the table out front (inside was closed for renovations) and trying to help the other server with the tastings. She was very knowledgeable and is an obvious fan of the wines. Worth the trip!! read more

My wife and I visited the winery for the first time this month. We had a great overall experience. First, the settings is incredible. The tasting room and outdoor patio have incredible views of Stonewall and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. We decided on the reserved tasting at $35 which includes 7 wines including some of the estate wines. All of the wines were really excellent. I would say the Viognier and the Tempranillo were the our favorites. Our server Nathan was great as well. He was very helpful explaining wine making in Texas. We also enjoyed learning more about his life adventures. This winery is a clear 5 out of 5. read more

For as young as it is (apparently it's been open just a year) PC is an amazing winery. The tasting room is lovely and not overly campy as some wineries tend to get. The giant deck is relaxing, especially on a beautiful spring day like we get here in central Texas. And the winery (I guess that's what you'd call the operations house) is extremely neat - dug into the side of a small hill and cooled by geothermal wells. On the wine side of things, the prices are a bit high for Texas wine trail, but the wines are far better than any other Texas winery I've been too. The highest priced Family Reserve is good, but the star of their line is definitely the Tempranillo. The tasting room staff said the '08 Tempranillo is supposed to be even better than the '07, but it won't be released until April or May... certainly worth another weekend drive. On the whites, our fave was the Vino Blanco, and I actually really liked the Rose' Grenache as well (thank god for the return of dry roses). I actually hold a statewide meeting every year with some out of state guests and I'm always struggling to buy them a Texas-y gift that (a) is not too hokey and (b) won't clutter up their office/home. Now that there's a winery in Texas that's gift-worthy, I'll be happy to give them a bottle of wine or two. read more

I've been here twice so far with my wife, the second time with her folks in tow, and had a wonderful experience both times. This is my first time at this winery, we visited this 4th of July because they had a kite festival going on and live music. This winery is located about 10 minutes before Fredericksburg, TX (if you are driving from Austin). They have a nice patio with a gorgeous view of the hill country and in most weekends, they have live music from 11-5PM. The wines are a bit expensive when compared with other wineries in the area, the service is great and if you do the wine tasting, you get to keep your glass which is a nice bonus. I recommend you get a chill bottle of 2011 Texas Vino Blanco if you happen to stop by sometime during the summer. They don't have a restaurant but when we visited there was a food truck outside selling Texas BBQ, it was good! Also, we saw many families sitting on the grass, around trees eating food they brought, so you can bring your own food if you like and come to this winery to try the wines and spend some quality time with your family and friends listening to live music. read more

This place is a wonderful winery to visit during say a weekday. I cant speak for large group, or weekend experiences, but we usually go on a weekday and the service is phenomenal. Our last experience was very personal. We ended up showing up a few minutes after they opened, and was able to spend about 2.5 hours there tasting all their available wines, had a glass as well, and even got an impromptu cellar tour. The Sommelier that worked with us was just beyond phenomenal. To think when I started driving out there I was regretting not having it shipped. His service really made our day great and completed the experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Edit: I have to say, your "Block One" is now my favorite wine of all time. Went here yesterday with my girlfriends, clearly the reviews don't lie and the emails to Julie have not been met with additional staff training. We stood at the bar ignored for some time - there were two other small groups and 3 servers. My friend said something somewhat under her breath about being ignored and the older man without clients came over and started aggressively taunting us. I asked if we could work with someone else and he continued with these half crazed rude and spiteful jabs, it was surreal. He then left the bar area, we worked with a nice young lady, wine was meh - I'll never be back, and my friend will no way re-up her longstanding club membership. Not a good experience, and they left a terrible dent on my family's impression on southern hospitality. The host was rude, did not explain anything about the wines we tasted and essentially wanted to get us out of there as soon as possible. Maybe he thought right away that he could not sell memberships to foreign visitors but my wife and I would still have been potential members. I am really surprised by the negative reviews! I had a thoroughly pleasant afternoon here on a lazy Sunday. Here's what I think we had working in our favor to have such an enjoyable experience: From what I gather, Sundays are a better (though shorter) day to taste as there are fewer big parties and just fewer people in general. PC's tasting room was a little small with just one bar, but this was no problem for us. Secondly, this was our last stop before heading home and we were tired of tasting--stroke of luck because I agree that $13 for a tasting is a bit high compared to other wineries in the area (though 9 wines is several more than you get for $5 and $10 at the other places). Instead, I had a quick sample of the GSM and tempranillo and purchased a glass of the tempranillo, and my husband went with the GSM. I thoroughly enjoyed my tempranillo and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his GSM. For clarification, I am FAR from any sort of connoisseur, but I think we have pretty good taste in wine, and both were very drinkable and smooth and were two of of our favorites from the day. Had we not already spent what we intended to spend on the day, I would have purchased a bottle of one of them. They also had some clever wine t-shirts: "well red," "group therapy," "wine a little, you'll feel better," etc. There were three ladies attending the tasting room, and all three were very nice and helpful. The ladies recognized some regulars, and were friendly with them. I love that kind of service. One of the ladies brought out water for the dogs after the owners had moved out to sit on the deck. If we lived closer, I would love to be a regular here myself! The best part of the afternoon, for us, was the leisure time spent out on the nice deck and padded chairs. The deck was equipped with a large fan, and kept it from being too hot. (Texas translation: It was somewhere from 95-100 in the shade, but there was a nice breeze, plus the fan, therefore it was not "too hot"). While it was practically empty when we first arrived, three other couples soon joined us on the deck (each with a small dog!) and everyone was very friendly. We pulled up chairs to another couple's table and enjoyed the wine, the view and the conversation. I was very sad to see it was time to head home. Looking forward to our next visit! read more
