Did you know the VA optometrist still dilates pupils to view the backs of patients' eyeballs? I…read moreknow. It's a neolithic practice that should get tossed in a dumpster fire next to the likes of fax machines and Blackberries. It also happens to be the main reason I sought out Lumen Eye Care as my new go-to for all things optometry. Well, that and....wifey already goes here and vouches for them hard. Recently relocated to the Northeastern boulevard, you may be forgiven if you struggle to find their suite upon first visit. Just look for the giant glasses next to the front door and you'll spot them straight away. Of course, you'll have to park across the street, but that's a minor inconvenience, at worst. I have to admit...first impressions were most pleasant. The office is clean, pristine, and a welcoming scene. Heh! I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. Snoogans! XD But seriously folks, the docs here will treat you with the best of care. The initial wait was a bit longer than expected, given the lack of patients at the time. But that can mostly be forgiven, considering how far more advanced their technology is compared to past optometrists I've visited. That's what brought me here in the first place. I find that in my "old" age (and I say that rather dubiously), keeping up with the recommended annual check-ups proves to be most crucial. I've worn readers for a few years now. As such, I want to make sure I'm wearing the appropriate prescription at the time it's needed. Every procedure here is carried out with precision, speed, and professionalism. The "head doc" (as I'll affectionately call her) was unexpectedly warm and kind. Then again, I've likely had my original view of optometrists tainted by my past experiences with military doctors. Yeah...they tend to scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to selecting those personality types. But, I digress. So, perhaps the bar was low going in. Nevertheless, I couldn't be more pleased with Lumen's practices. Enrolling into their database was simple and only required 3 signatures. As I alluded to in the beginning, they accept VA sponsorship; which is a HUGE win in my book! Plus, I really can't say enough good things about their updated equipment. And for those wondering, they use an ophthalmoscope (don't try saying that 3 times fast) to view the insides of your eyeball--as opposed to dilating your pupils so wide you come out looking like Hermey the elf. IYKYK. Now, I can't speak to their prices for eyewear. I'd only caution the average consumer to purchase their glasses online somewhere--especially if you only need readers. IMHO, there is NO reason to purchase glasses likely priced in the triple digits that you'll only need to wear part time anyway. Unless there's a frame set you're just DYING to have, I really don't see the point. Someone should have told that one guy who visited back in May of this year (also, don't buy Ray-Bans?). Inflated prices aside though, I don't think that warrants a one star review against this place. But that's just MY opinion. Anyway, I have to come back here in a few months to check on some...questionable marks in the back of my eyeball. But that's merely a testament to their meticulous nature. Lumen Eye Care is worth 5 VERY relieved, normal sized pupils out of 5.

Went here to do eye exam for my mom... everything went well, and it's a nice eye exam. And they…read moreemail the prescription upon request. I'll recommend this practice.

Then I go to the desk and say I needed a copy of my perscrition and they staed I would have to pay an addtyional sum of 41.20 for it.I was not happy. this year my appointment for 06./11/2025 . so i goggled about paying for the prscription in New hampshire and found a federal mandate stating that they must provide patients with a copy of thier perscrition regardless if they ask for it or not. After talking to a manger I was told the fee was for them doing a refaction test. What to Expect During a Routine Eye Exam: Visual Acuity Test: Using an eye chart, the doctor assesses how clearly you can see at different distances. Refraction Testing: If you need glasses or contacts, this test determines the strength of the lenses needed for optimal vision. External Examination: The doctor will examine the outside of your eyes, including eyelids, lashes, and the whites of your eyes. Slit Lamp Examination: A special microscope is used to inspect the front part of your eye, including the cornea, iris, and lens, for any signs of disease or damage. Pupillary Reactions: The doctor will observe how your pupils react to light, which can indicate potential problems. Eye Pressure Measurement: This test helps screen for glaucoma, a serious eye condition that can lead to blindness. Retinal Examination: The doctor may dilate your pupils with drops to examine the back of your eyes (the retina) for signs of disease or damage. Visual Fields Test: This test checks your peripheral vision, identifying any gaps or blind spots. Eye Movement and Alignment Tests: The doctor checks to see if your eyes move correctly and if they are properly aligned. Discussion of Symptoms and History: The doctor will ask about any current eye problems, overall health, and any vision changes you may be experiencing.
