In March I went to Pearl Vision in Tyngsboro, MA for an eye exam and purchased new bifocal lenses for my current frames. The lenses cost me approximately $600. I began noticing a glare in September and after looking closely, saw that one of my lenses has a crack! I called Pearl Vision, and was told that since I hadn't purchased a separate, additional warranty for the lenses I would need to pay full price to have the lens replaced. I have been going to this Pearle Vision under Dr. Ryan's care for years. I continue to go here even after I've moved further away because everyone is so kind, professional and helpful. Over the years, I have had many different insurances and periods of no vision insurance, and they always work hard to give me the best deals they can. Having gone to expert ophthalmologists throughout my youth because of a congenital cataract and having them spend maybe 5 minutes with me, I feel I get better care with Dr. Ryan who goes the extra mile with monitoring my retinal scans and spending time making sure I am doing everything I can to keep my eyes healthy. Truly felt like an inconvenience to the worker we dealt with. Went in and selected two pairs of Oakley. She measured my glasses on my face by putting dots on the lenses-- the whole nine yards. Then we dealt with the sticker shock even with the buy one get on free lol. She seemed really perturbed that I was going to have to think about it so with that we left with out a word from the worker. I later called back and negotiated a different price - which entailed settling for a "lesser" coating -- not the "HI DEF" coating saving about $200. Whet to go pay and find out she took off the anti glare coating which I negotiated back for no charge, after a great big sigh from the worker like I was robbing the place lol. Mind you I paid the asking price minus $40 for the anti glare. $1009 total. Oh and then found out I had to pay and extra $39 for a warranty for one year on one of the pairs. After a week we went to pick them up. Sat down and she gives me a piece of paper to read-- seems good I say from what I could tell within the minute of trying them on. At that she said great! I had an eye exam and bought glasses here in March of 2013. I found everyone to be extremely helpful and professional. They also were great at helping me to select a pair that was just right for me. Please note that I am not sure if they are still calling this the "T J Maxx Plaza" because TJ has relocated. The business card from Pearl Vision included this name as part of their business address. I will not be returning and would not recommend the dr's here in fact I will be letting folks know that the level of professionalism is terrible here. During and after my exam the dr was not only making fun of my current glasses but he and his college decided it would be a great idea to talk about me and my glasses and how he is going to "wipe his hands of me and not help" in front of me like I was not in the room. Not only was I upset by this I would love to let them know they blew a opportunity to try and sell me a pair of glasses and possibly win me over as a customer. Instead they made fun of me and belittled me as a customer. Totally unacceptable behavior for someone working in a professional position (unacceptable in any position) I will be glad to share my experience with others and social media to get the word out of how pearl vision employees act. read more

Spent $1200.00 on glasses a year (and a couple weeks) ago and they would do NOTHING to help me when the coating on my prescription Maui Jims started to peel. A couple of 1-800 numbers, and be on your way. Don't do business with these fools; there are way too many options out there. read more

So before I made my appointment, I confirmed that they could handle gas perm contacts. They said fine. I had my eye exam and thats where things went sour. They did a retinal screening and didn't tell me i had to pay out of pocket as insurance wouldn't cover it. Then the doctor tells me he couldn't do the contacts and I would have to go to another doctor, as his lab would not make them. Then (wait for it) he wanted to charge me for a contact lens fitting. I said I wouldnt pay. He charged my insurance for something he couldnt do as well. I got them charged back though.. Stay away from this. read more

I was able to schedule my appointment online before the office was open for a same day appointment. Made a follow up call once the office was open to verify my coverage and I was good to go. In and out with a new comfortable pair of contacts to wear while I wait for my order to arrive. The pros: (1) Eye exams can be scheduled online (2) The eye exam is quick but thorough...the doctor is experienced and friendly (3) they understand the insurance stuff really well (4) good selection of everything. The cons: (only one). Their turnaround time for new glasses takes longer every year. If you're in a rush, i.e, need new prescription sunglasses for a vacation, give yourself a few weeks lead time. I used to avoid the independent shops because of this reason, but now Pearle offers no advantage in terms of waiting. read more

Went here for an eye exam. The receptionist was nice, and she informed me after I gave her my insurance that i'm covered for free glasses. The eye doctor was pleasant as well, the exam was done in 5 minutes, maybe less. Then I got helped from this nice lady, but she clearly doesn't know what she was doing. She has short boyish haircut. I told her that I was told that I'm qualify for free glasses so she brought out the brochure with pictures of free frames/lens. Then she looked up my information and told me i wasn't covered for free glasses. wtf? so I told her just give me my prescription and i'll go buy it online or something. she printed the wrong information! She got my mother's information instead. I was like wtf? i went back after i realized her mistakes. How in the world did she get my information wrong when my documents was right in front of her face, the doctor's copy. It has my name and everything and she printed out and gave me my mom's information instead. I don't know how she got my mom's information either. The only thing we have in common is the address. She have different insurance and eye doctor. She's never been to this place. I don't know what they are doing but they need to do a better job and not get personal information mix up like that. I guess I was suppose to get free glasses after all but she's looking at my mom's insurance or something. i don't think i want to go back there after this experience. I saw some happy customers, maybe this is an isolated incident. either way, mixing up people's personal information is not something to be taken lightly. read more

I was a first time wearer of glasses because I failed the eye test for my license at the age of 54 years.My new glasses cost me over 300 dollars and very cheaply made. They rushed me through the exam and I do not feel they got the script right. They showed me how the frames could not break by twisting them up...they broke. Within two weeks I had to replace the nose pads, the ones I bought from the dollar tree store next door were better than what came with my glasses. then one of the ear pice arms broke this week, they cannot fix them but the could sell me a new pair. I fixed them so they will last until my new pair comes from a company with some pride in what they sell. The staff was very rude to me when I complained about the glasses being broken, maybe because when they kept sending me reminders it was time for a check-up I told them I would never give them my business again (still they should back up what they sell)...Pearle Vision I found out is a franchise and each store is different so I cannot fault the company...but the store in Tyngsboro t heartless greedy hacks. There was nothing good about this and I paid over 300 dollars for glasses that were cheaper than 5 dollar sunglasses you buy at the flea market...I cannot say enough bad things about the jerks in the Tygnsboro store. I have been going here for years. Dr. Ryan, Bonnie & Steve have seen my kids throug their first pairs of glasses and later their first pairs of contact lenses. They are always super responsive when we have last minute eye issues and I feel like they really care about making sure we get the best deal and service we can. I love that they have all been there forever. Feels like an old Main St. shop and I couldn't be more pleased with them. read more

I have insurance for my eye exam. Suppose to pay 10$ copay but I end up paying an extra 29$ for a map shot of my eyes which I never sign up for. I never heard of this. Ridiculous! read more
