Great food, friendly prompt staff, fun atmosphere, clean. I came in on a Saturday and had an hour and a half to spend while waiting to meet family. I had never been here before but had great communication with their staff on social media. I walked in and looked around and was immediately greeted by 2-3 friendly staff members. I mentioned that I was looking for a place to watch some football and they set me in front of a big screen and put on the game I was looking for. The foot was hot, fresh, and flavorful. The beer was cold and the server was knowledgeable about the menu and tap selection. They were very fast and did not rush me out when I had finished. Atmosphere is very nice, open, fun, clean, and energetic. I do not know if they have breakfast but there is a coffee bar. It's almost like they have taken the very best things from a nice restaurant, coffee shop, and sports bar and rolled them together in all the right ways. I will be back anytime I come through town. Atmosphere was good and the service was great. The food is way over priced for the quality. As locals we have tried this place several times (people keep giving us gift certificates) and each time we walk away asking "what's the hype"? I've heard they have made some changes so I'm sure we will try it again but our experience makes us wonder why people would drive from hours away to eat here. My family of four stopped through on the way to visit relatives today and we were looking for something fun, local, and different. AJ's did not disappoint! We loved the family style salad, with beautiful fresh lettuces and vegetables. Because I couldn't choose just one of their house made dressings, we tried all four. Loved all of them and ended up taking the house vinaigrette and blue cheese to go - so delicious! The place was busy, but service was great. I had the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and I would put it at the top for best I have ever had! My 3 and 4 year old ordered a fish kid's meal and hamburger kid's meal. Left there 29 minutes ago and all the three of us are talking about is how excellent this place is! It's right on the way for a regular road trip we'll be making. The worst part is we usually return on a Sunday night. So we'll have to stop on Friday nights on our way out. Best food, best service. We had a mix of burger, grilled chicken, and tenderloin. AJ's just reopened after a fire/remodeling. It is noisier than before as they lost their loft that absorbed the noise. For some unknown reason they decided to put a stand up table where each piece of clean silverware is wiped ridding the silverware of spots. It is then dropped (clanged) into beaten grey silverware trays. The other table has someone folding napkins. All in the dining area. The new design moved the kitchen so now customers have a great view of the drink server station and collection of dirty dishes. Meals are overpriced. When it was cozy at Pear Tree, table cloths, when the service was pristine, no clanking, it might have been worth the price. Four ounces of lobster is $28. Six ounces of prime rib is$29. The food continues be quite tasty. They just opened so it will get better. read more

Went to Pear Tree today with my wife and granddaughter for lunch. The service was great and the food very good. Their portions are large and with any entree on the lunch menu you also get a salad and side. Needless to say we did leave with boxes. We started with their excellent onion rings, they are fantastic! My wife had their very large salad, my granddaughter their fried chicken sandwich, again enough chicken for two sandwiches. I chose the half pound patty melt, very good. So why 4 stars, too large portions and a little pricey. Would we go back, yes. read more

Unfortunately, this branch has fallen too far from the Pear Tree with regards to service. I made the 60-mile trip from Columbia to eat at AJ's. It was recommended by co-workers. When I got to my table, the host cleared off all the silverware, plates, and napkins. I requested a napkin, and no one listened. My waitress messed up my drink order twice. The wait staff seemed to be more attentive with each other or the game on television than the customers. For my main entree, I had the Batter-Dipped Pork Tenderloin with the Famous Pear Tree Onion Rings, and it was sensational. I then ordered Apple Cobbler for desert, and I was underwhelmed. The portion of cobbler was small, it was still cold in the center (you could tell they had heated it in the microwave), and it did not cleanse the pallet. I left the restaurant with the Onion taste in my mouth. Even after chewing 3 Altoids mints, I can still taste the Onion Rings. Would I make the 60-mile trip to eat at AJ's? Probably not, I will go to the Pear Tree instead, because the service is always exceptional at the Pear Tree. However, if I am driving through Macon and need a place to eat, I would probably stop there for a bite to eat. read more

Sadly this use to be a favorite place to go. Loved the menu and the service. Unfortunately that has changed. The owners have decided to merge The Pear Tree with AJ's and much of the menu has changed along with the prices. $15.00 for 3 jumbo shrimp??!!! $27.00 for a Ribeye strip that is swimming in Au Jus!! I think not. The pork tenderloin was too tough to cut with a steak knife. Perhaps the owners have forgotten they are located in Macon. The menu isn't the only disappointment, the service is very poor and the overall experience left our group vowing not to return. read more

My husband and I were passing through from Michigan to Kansas and needed to find a place to have lunch other than the usual fast food haunts. I'm so thankful for my Yelp app. because this place is amazing! My husband ordered a chicken breast sandwich and I ordered a sandwich called The Westpork, which is pulled pork with Swiss cheese and cole slaw on it and both were truly delicious! We drove up and down the highway 63 strip in Macon, looking for restaurants that showed up on our GPS. Most of them were closed or out of business, but this one wasn't so we stopped. Are we ever glad we did! We were greeted immediately by very friendly staff, the wait staff was very attentive, the food was outstanding, and the prices were very competitive to any similar type restaurants. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT. My husband and I made our annual trip to the Pear Tree to celebrate our anniversary. Previously this restaurant was AJs and it was the restaurant we ate at directly after we said our vows at the local country court house. We love this place. The food is superb and the service was excellent. They were hopping tonight since it was the weekend following Valentines Day but they still all worked like a well oiled machine with our food and service. There's a lady that's a permanent fixture as their waitress staff and she always recognizes us and makes us feel like we have been missed. I always get the batter dipped lobster and my husband got the KC strip. We left fat and sassy with full bellies and leftovers for a late night snack. We WILL be back NEXT YEAR to celebrate our wedding vows. read more

Stopped here mid afternoon driving through on expressway. It was a little confusing AJ's/Pear Tree? But worth it! From the moment we walked in the door all the employees made us feel special. The atmosphere is industrial chic done extremely well. They have room for a LOT of people! Floor to ceiling curtains help muffle sound and make it seem more intimate than it really is. All our food was very fresh and very generous portions. Servers were friendly and helpful without being annoying. read more

It was ok. The onion rings were the best part! They were just as good as another user said. Their pricing on the menu is odd. I saw a salad for $52 . Our waitress was snotty and rude. Otherwise it was ok. If she had been pleasant it may have made the experience worth repeating but as is I will avoid and go elsewhere when in town. Went to AJS for the first time since it opened after the fire. All I can say is my wife and I were not impressed with the atmosphere or the food. When we walked in we requested to sit in the bar area which we were quickly taken to a table in the back because it was quieter back there. Certainly not the case as we were seated by the busing station and had to tolerate staff squeezing between my wife's chair and wall to clear tables. It is very loud and cold inside. You cannot hold on a conversation over the sound of plates clanging and silverware being rolled at a counter in plain view of customers. The food was atrocious at best. We were there for lunch so I orderd what I thought were traditional wings per the menu. What I received was boneless wings so salty I could not eat them. My wife ordered chicken strips that were clearly nothing more than frozen pre-made chicken strips. Had I not already been in Macon and had drove the 30 minutes it takes me to get to Macon just to go to AJS I would be extremely upset that I wasted my time and $40 on an awful experience. read more
