I have heard great things about the Apple Basket Cafe and decided to try it out today while in Macon. The food was yummy and everyone working there was friendly. It's a cute little hole in the wall type of place. I can tell everyone in there is probably a regular and comes back for consistent and delicious food. It gives cozy hometown vibes. A friend and I happened in for lunch. The host and waitstaff were sweetly helpful. It's a friendly diner atmosphere. We got the Wednesday fried chicken special. Oh my gosh, the chicken was prepared so wonderfully seasoned and light , in addition to certified crispy. The broccoli cauliflower salad was original. The onion rings were some of the best I've ever eaten. We liked it so much, we brought our spouses back. My spouse ordered the pork tenderloin dinner and ate every mouthwatering bite. He was satisfied so much there was no snacking the rest of the night. My roast beef dinner and mashed potatoes were perfection. Our friends loved their food too. I walked into a restaurant that was completely full except the one booth that was going to be for me. Cute, clean, and busy Cafe! I didn't have much hope for quick service, but Kelly proved me wrong. She took my drink order, gave me a moment to look at the menu, then took my order. I ordered an appetizer ( fried mushrooms), a side salad with my cheeseburger, and cherry dumpling with ice cream for dessert. My appetizer came out first with plenty of time to enjoy. Fried mushrooms were nicely battered and served hot and fresh from the fryer with a delicious homemade ranch dressing. Salad was limp lettuce tossed with plenty of red onion and only one cucumber. It would serve the cafe well to put some effort into the small things. The burger looked like any other burger, but it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was definitely made from lean ground Black Angus. Incredibly happy with my decision! The dessert was lovely to look at and sinfully delicious ! A passing patron exclaimed, "Ohh, doesn't that look good!" Another fabulous choice! I can't get over the fact that Kelly's service --for me just one person--was remarkable. This restaurant has undergone an Owner change, major remodeling and even painted the front. The problem is, the prices of the food have went up (and down and back up some again) in the past year and the amount and quality of food have gone down. I was just in here after not being here for a few months (the last time I was here the prices were way too high $18.99 for a Wrap and Side???) because the prices have come back down some. We'll, unfortunately the quality of the food is not the same. And, I've been coming here for years. The Chicken Strips were ok. The Mashed Potatoes were a watery, instant that just dripped through your fork they were so thin. The white gravy was a think mix gravy with little flavor. I got the baked apples as a side (used to be so good and flavorful) and they tasted like they just opened a can and dumped them in something to warm them up. Another in my group got a Half Hot Turkey and it was so small. Not like the portion size you used to get. Plus her mashed potatoes were the same way, thin, watery and flavorless. We went on a Saturday close to Noon when they used to be so busy but they weren't even close to half full, which was very odd. Plus, with the new flooring and new metal/tin ceiling, there's nothing to muffle sounds and if there's a couple people talking, their voices echo over the whole front half of the restaurant. It's very loud and that was with not even half the tables being used. I am very disappointed. Me and my family used to love to come here to eat (usually every other week or once a month at the latest) but since they raised their prices the first time at the end of 2024 it just hasn't been the same. I could handle the higher prices if the food quality was still there but unfortunately it's not. read more

The apple basket is under new management. Usually I have a great experience but the past two times will be the last. The menu is completely changed. They want to charge you extra for egg on a Cobb salad and forget the cheese. They also forget the lettuce, pickles, and tomato for both the tenderloin and the burger. Will not be back. We stopped here while visiting Macon on business. It's absolutely amazing. I had catfish and my husband had a burger with chili cheese fries as an appetizer. It was so good and our waitress, Shanna, was great. It was so good that we made a point to go back the next time we passed through. But we didn't have to wait for long. They have back rooms for group functions so it's quite big. I had the smothered chicken with onion rings & sweet potato as sides. The hand dipped onion rings are legit! Normally I am not a chicken breast person but this one is juicy and tender. Husband had the fried catfish with corn and friend okra.
