We went here on Christmas Day 2018. It was my wife and I, mom, brother in law and sister. We figured we would meet here before my wife and I had to drive back to Boston. First off, I realize it was Christmas Day. The restaurant was less than half full. I grew up in Springfield. This place used to be great. It must be new owners. The food was horrible! It tasted like old recycled grease. They must not have changed the grease in a year or two. The mixed rum drink was good, but that was it! There was no color or flavor in the boneless spare ribs. We all ate less then half our meals, and boxed up the rest to throw in the barrel as soon as we got home. The service was nonexistent. No refills on drinks. The few times we seen the waiter, we felt like we were bothering him. Come time to pay, waiter comes to table sayings he need the pin#! What?!? It's a credit card, not a debit card. They had two swipe machines. Some kind of game was going on. The manager did straighten it out. My wife used the ladies room. She said it had such an odd unpleasant order in it. Tried this restaurant tonight because our normal Chinese place changed their ordering policy. Ordered sweet and sour chicken with white rice and extra soy sauce. I recieved fried rice and 2 packets of soy sauce with the meal. Their fried rice is the worst I have ever tried. The sweet and sour sauce is watery, and the chicken fingers have an old oil flavor. I threw the entire meal out. So in addition to sending me the wrong food, the entire meal was terrible. Stay away. read more

Figured it was just another Chinese restaurant. Nothing special. Boy was I pleasantly surprised to be so wrong! Their pan fried dumplings alone are worth the visit. They're about 1/2 the size of my fist and delicious to boot! Also, their house rice is loaded with goodies like pork, chicken, egg, and more. All I can say is this is not the same Peacock that I and many others would refer to as the go to place for Chinese food in the Springfield area. The place appears to be run by a bunch of 16 - 18 year olds. We went there New Years Eve and there was only one waiter for the entire dining room. There had to be 5 - 6 kids working the take outs. The wait for food and service was horrible. When our food did arrive it was definately different than the " old " Peacock. This food was heavy with a burnt greasy taste to anything that was fried as if the oil or grease was very old. The chicken fried rice was very bland and heavy. I don't know who the new owner is but it used to be that Peacock was the bar used to measure other Chinese food restaurants. That is no longer the case as they are at the bottom now. 5 stars. Seriously. I do remain amazed that I'm giving stars to a Chinese Restaurant in the state of Massachusetts. My Boston friends and I have a running gag about how unbearable most of the Chinese food is; I guess it took a trip to Western Mass to find a good one. It's near my workplace. I had a lunch special, most of which are between $7.50 and $9... pretty good for a sit-down Chinese place. What I got for that money was simply bananas. Crispy noodles with a giant bowl of duck sauce. An eggroll the size of my forearm. A pile of lo mein that could satisfy Mama June Thompson's appetite. And to top it all off [literally], two strips of battered chicken! WTF? It was so much food, I almost had to say, "No, stop bringing me food! Enough!" That would have been a first. It's in an old strip mall, so Peacock is not winning any HGTV contests for décor, as one might expect. But man, sit-down Chinese places are a dying breed, so it's hard not to like this one. read more

I am sad to say that I no longer enjoy this place. I grew up for the last 20+ years with this being the ONLY chinese food place I would enjoy, but I have finally admitted to myself that the ride is over. The food quality has changed drastically for the worse in the last 3-5 years. It is no longer consistent. I've actually felt quite ill the last couple times I've had it. Whether it is reheated from lunch leftovers, or a quick 5 minute job to satisfy time, I am not interested. From chicken fingers to beef with broccoli to seafood lo mein, nothing lives up to expectation. And they have the nerve to continuously raise their prices. Redecorating the inside does not improve your product. I will no longer waste my time, my money, or risk my health for the sake of nostalgia. read more

My late husband and I lived in the 16 Acres neighborhood for many years, and Peacock was always a good bet for great food and service. Went back with my friend today, and so sorry to see how things have changed. The food, as usual, was amazing, but the service was absolutely awful. We sat for about ten minutes before we got tea or water. In another ten minutes we put in our appetizer order only because we asked for it to be taken. Our server was oblivious to the fact that we were even there. Our appetizers arrived in another ten minutes. Ten minutes seems to be the usual timetable. It does NOT take that long to ladle hot and sour soup into a bowl, or to steam leek dumplings. Both, however, were excellent. After dropping off our apps, he didn't take our order for another few minutes. By the time our entrees came, we were so filled up on wontons and our appetizers that we barely touched them. My vegetable pad Thai was wonderful and I'm so pleased that they have it. At least I have food for the next three days. Annie got shrimp balls, spare ribs and chicken wings, which, being vegan, I couldn't try. She says they were every bit as good as I remember. Speaking of being vegan, Asian and Indian restaurants are usually great for food I can eat. I can usually get General Tso's tofu or something similar. Apparently, not here. Our server, while not rude, was also not even minimally friendly. Our check was $36.00, for which I would normally have left a $10.00 tip. I left $5.00, only because I couldn't leave nothing. 5 stars? Seriously? On a recommendation from my family we ordered here the other week. Cheap Chinese food at it's cheapest. I'm a big fan of General Tso's and honestly am not sure I've ever had worse. The Crab Rangoon was cooked well but had an odd flavor to it. I hope there's better in East Longmeadow. read more

I remember when this place opened many years ago. I think it's still the same family who owns it. I haven't eaten "in" for years so this review is is for the food only, not service. Also, keep in mind that this place is "American" Chinese food which is typically greasy and fried (I'm sure they have healthy choices but haven't tried them). In that category the Peacock's food is excellent! The chicken fingers are always perfect; the egg rolls are large crispy fried treats; the teriyaki beef and boneless ribs are tender, sweet and salty; fried dumplings are generous and tasty; their homemade duck sauce is so good I once had a friend eat a bowl of it like soup! I'm not talking fine dining here, more like an occasional guilty pleasure. Don't expect to impress a date here, just expect tasty food! Ok I feel really bad about having to give this bad review. But I need to be honest. I have been going to the peacock since I was old enough to drive, I'm now in my 40's In the past no one was ever able to compete with the Peacock, but now it appears that the new owners have taken over and so last night the food was horrible. On a scale from 1-10 and 10 being the best I rate a 1 The boneless spare ribs lacked flavor and most of it was over cooked, dry, hard and difficult to chew, the only thing that was soft was the fat which was connected to the over cooked inedible meat. I threw most of it away as it was inedible. The house fried Rice was undercooked and grainy. Usually house fried rice is moist and loaded with everything but on this day it was mostly hard chewy rice a few shrimp and not too much of the other ingredients. I also ordered fried chicken wings which were not the same. They were small in size, usually they are meatier and slightly bigger, they were also over cooked and dry lacking flavor. One last thing, the shrimp I. The rice was also over cooked and tasteless almost like it was freezer burn tasting. Not good at all. I wish I could give no stars because they don't deserve any. Takeout food quality has taken a nosedive in recent years while their prices have soared. Wouldn't mind the price so much if the quality was better. Was once my favorite Chinese restaurant in Springfield. However in the last year or more the takeout food simply stunk. Food was not freshly cooked. Tasted days old and reheated. Ordered the pu pu platter And House Fried Rice. Hardly worth eating. Veggies were wilted and soggy. The rice hard dry. Chicken fingers tasted hard and re-fried. The egg rolls were no better. Our boneless ribs was so tough that it was impossible to chew. The chicken wings was little better but not much and tough. This has become a pattern for this location. The first time I thought maybe it was because I ordered earlier in the week. But ordering on a Friday night was no improvement. It seems that they serve this crap to takeout customers because they may be less likely to go to the trouble of returning this junk when they have already waited 25 minutes to get your food and your family is hungry. I don't think they'd serve this in house because it would surely be sent back. This is it for me. I'll not be going back and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Worst place ever I went there because my regular place is close today the rice is dry n nasty and they did my order wrong they are rude and yell at my husband n said they won't make my order right and refuse to give money back my boys didn't get to eat because the rice had to many stuff never again ! I have relocated back to Springfield after 12 years and remembered how much I had liked the food at the Peacock. For the past year now I have been ordering take out from there and the service has been very upsetting. I am not saying that my order is never ready upon my arrival; but the young man that always answers the phone when I call is never very friendly. When I arrived today (07/14/2014) to pick up my order, the woman behind the counter practically threw it at me after she had a heated conversation in her native language with the young man who usually takes my order. She then proceeded to turn her head away from me without saying a word, not even "here you are" or "thank you". I would say that this is an isolated case, but this happens every time I go there, and I am always very friendly to them. They make me feel like they hate me! I have seen others get the same treatment as well. The funny thing is; I never see anybody in the dinning room, but always many take out orders. Perhaps this is the reason? It is too bad, I do like the food, but I have had enough of the rude behavior towards their customers. I will no longer patronize this restaurant! This hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant is such a hidden gem! My vegetable lo-mien was delicious and the chicken and broccoli was also really good. Our waitress, 肌讷 was so kind and just made our experience that much better! Picked up an order on New Years Day (an incredibly busy time) and they did a great job keeping up with the extra stressful amount of orders they had. I will grant you that there was some stress in the air with one woman complaining about her order and another inappropriately defending the workers by yelling out profanity, but we were impressed with the way the workers handled it with grace and efficiency. We hadn't ordered from here in quite awhile, and will NEVER go again! They must've changed hands, or at least the cook. We used to go there at least once a month and enjoyed it very much. VERY disappointing. Everything had a nasty, greasy sour flavor. The General Tso's was mostly dark meat chunks of fat. Even the vegetables were terrible--time for more Tums! Good food but terrible service if you want take out. They have messed up my order 3 times in a row and do not even apologize when it happens. The last time it happened I had gotten all the way home and then realized they gave me the wrong meal I called them and they argued with me about it and then made me come all the way back and bring the wrong meal with me so that they could check and make sure I wasn't making it up. I moved to Springfield a few years ago and I have struggled to find a Chinese place that I really love. I have tried four or five other Chinese restaurants in the city and this is the one I keep going back to. It's the only one I've encountered in the city so far that doesn't have yellow fried rice. I always order the same thing, wonton soup and gen tso's chicken. It's good enough for me and my wife really likes it. The portion sizes are gigantic, the containers are always overflowing. Occasionally we will get a batch of fried rice that smells like it was made with forehead grease. Probably the best Chinese place in the city. Just don't try to order here for New Year's Eve, the whole city tries to do it and you will have to wait in a giant horde of people for an hour to get your food. read more

Called to complain and said we will return the dishes and wanted them remade. They hemmed and hawed and said ok. When we returned the 2 plates (full except for a few bites) they gave us 1 plate back. The last two times I have gone there they messed up my orders (I told them there was a shellfish allergy & when we got home we had a large shrimp fried rice in our bag). Experience while eating at restaurant is great! - Unfortunately today I ordered to go and waited at the bench near the counter. I ordered 3 combinations of orange chicken for me and my family. When drove home (22 minutes) and opened the bag, I had only orange chicken. No pork fried rice, egg rolls or nothing else that usually comes in a combo. Have been going to Peacock for 15 years and, our favorite Chinese. Our regular Christmas dinner was exceptional this year. Service was the best making sure we had sauces we wanted and drinks. The West Lake Duck was incredible. The four happiness was huge portion fresh and delicious. Appetizers chicken wings and pan fried dumplings are my favorite anywhere but, the best here.
