For myself, I enjoy learning a new skill by conditioning both my brain and my body. I'm not looking to be a fighter, but we have the no contact option so it's not intimidating. I woke up one day and was depressed and saddened by what my body has become. I was 551 pounds with a little girl and it hit me like a ton of bricks I'm going to die before she graduates high school. I'm going to miss a lot of first and she's going to miss her father. Now I have exercised in the past as a young man and it was never fun for me. Running sucks, Just weight lifting sucks even walking into a gym gave me more anxiety than I can express. So I decided maybe learning something while I exercise would work. I looked at BJJ , karate, and number of other things but I'm not big on sweating all over other people. Boxing stood out to me for a number of reasons, full body work out, hard cardio workout and in a pinch maybe I could fight off multiple attackers if need be. That's when I found this gym empire! Good reviews close to my house and the classes fit with my schedule. It went very fast and efficient to sign up and pay. Sign a weaver and boom! I was in class. Adam and Ryan are my coaches and they know why I was there on the first day. It's either this or die for me. I don't want to sound hyperbolic but In all understanding that what it was for me. Adam and Ryan are both understanding of my situation but also push me to do more then I think I can. If I'm slipping or dropping my hands to breathe I can hear a " hands up" and that's my hint to bring them up. It's ok to breathe but never drop your guard I'm told. They don't over look anything I do if I miss a beat or "paw" at a bag because "I'm just there to exercise". I'm expected to do my best and no one is ever left behind. If you need a quick refresher they are there to help in the most productive way possible. it seems to me everyone is in different fitness levels and they cater to that. It doesn't matter what your fitness level is. This gym is here to help. Adam and Ryan seem to genuinely care about the health and progress you make in this class. They are up lifting and ready to help. I can't say enough good things about empire boxing and fitness. The only thing I have lost joining this gym so far has been 29 pounds and a little anxiety.

Honestly I can't say enough good things about Big Foot Gym…read more I started training Thai Boxing here when I was 16 years old (eons ago)! In fact many Muay Thai instructors in Eugene, and throughout Oregon, began their training here. Ajarn (Master) Mike Walrath treats his students like family, while teaching the pure martial art of Muay Thai. I've trained many other places through out the US since starting here, but getting to train with Ajarn Mike and the rest of my Big Foot peeps, is always the best thing about being in Eugene!

If there's anything Big Foot Gym has no shortage of, it's character. A small, dingy garage space…read morewith blue mats covered in black sharpie scrawl envelop the main training area. Worn, beat up heavy bags (some coming apart at the stitching, held together with duct tape) hang by chain from the splintered supports above and old Thai boxing flyers adorn the walls. A large mirror occupies a majority of front wall, while above, portraits of Thai Ajarns gaze downward. To the side, a rack exhibits rusty krabi (sword) and krabong (staff) among a small fleet of aged cardio machines that any Goodwill would be envious of. The rear door leads to an outdoor covered area where a small boxing ring lies. It's hardcore, old-school, not for everyone, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Ajarn Mike Walrath is an eccentric. He'll be the first to tell you, and he definitely won't be the last. He's kind, quirky, and a damned good teacher who is passionate about the learning and well-being of his students. But don't take my word for it; the belts and trophies that stand in plain view are testament his students' success. What really makes this gym special are the people. All the other instructors are also students of the Ajarn, and are equally kind and helpful. The gym has such a positive, nurturing atmosphere, and anyone approaching the gym with trepidation immediately feels at home after spending their first hour training here. No one ever has the "I'm going to f*** you up" mentality, or has anything to prove; everyone just wants to help each other get better and have fun training. Its an amazing thing; beautiful, even. As such, the gym caters to everyone, from complete newbies to competitive fighters, and everyone in between looking for a killer workout. But what amazes me the most about this place isn't the thorough instruction, reverence of Thai culture, quirky atmosphere and strong comraderie, but rather, the whole that supersedes the sum of its parts. Big Foot Gym is a quintessential embodiment of Eugenian culture, quietly tucked away in the corner among a few automotive businesses. Easily overlooked by most, but never taken for granted by those who recognize the gym's true value. The gym didn't just teach me how to fight; the gym represents a conduit from which I was able to grow and develop in an existential manner. This gym has changed the lives of many of its patrons, myself included, and comes with the highest of recommendations.

In my time there I have seen young and old come and workout here with no issues. The gym being as large as it is gives a good selection of things to do. All the equipment is new and very well maintained. However it being such a great gym means more people and your typical busy hours are BUSY. 5-7 pm is a madhouse. If you can swing earlier or later than that I would unless you don't mind waiting for equipment. This gym has free classes that a treated as first come first serve which is very nice. My wife had done their spin class and loves it. Also they have included with membership FREE tans in very nice tanning beds. I believes they have about 8 beds and I have never had to wait for one. That being said if you did have to wait, they have comfortable seating as well as FREE fully body massage chairs in a dim lit room to relax in. I have been a member of many gyms and this one for what it offers at the low price of 25.00$ a MONTH! It's an amazing deal. I have one complaint and this I believe is aimed more towards gym goers than staff. The men's locker room specifically the bathroom side has been very dirty at times. I don't know if it's the carelessness of the members to splash water all over the sink and floor or to not flush the toilets and leave paper towels on the ground but come on, grown ass adults here clean up your shit. This is a very busy gym with people coming and going throughout the day and staff can't singlehandedly stay on top of picking up after all the dirty people. Clean up your shit. Long story short, 25$ includes gym, classes, massage chairs, and tanning. Try and top that anywhere else in the area.

I feel that even at its peak hours, there are open weight machines and spaces to train (knock on wood that it stays that way in January). As far as the equipment goes, it's new and works great. I haven't seen a single piece of broken equipment in my month of training here, and I come five days per week. Additionally, there's a lobby with a huge TV for game watch parties. The staff is very friendly and helpful! If you go to UO, check this place out for your workout! It's been almost 2 years since this occurred, but I still think about it every so often. At first,…read moreI didn't want to be "that person" who goes on a rant on the review section, but this review has to do with the impact this particular CrossFit had on many lives. Flashback: March 2019. Covid-19. Most of us afraid. Will our families survive? How will life look during a pandemic? Then news hit. Gyms, entertainment facilities, and restaurants in Oregon to close. At first, I felt this gym was "semi" fair in allowing people to borrow some equipment. I was able to borrow a bar, a kettle, and a few rubber plates. That was nice, but I just can't stop thinking about the fact that they were still charging us the full premium for a percentage of the effort. Two zoom classes offered per day, both during typical 9-5 working hours. Workouts were posted with machines that we didn't have access to, or at least most of us didn't i.e. rowing machines. See, I understand wanting to take care of your family, but at the cost of others? I think about the people who lost their jobs during the pandemic and how you were still drafting 130+ (depending on how many months they signed up for) out of their banking account. In my case it was around $160.00. I was extremely fortunate to have a job during the pandemic, but I don't get how I was paying a large premium for two zoom classes that were during my working hours. The sell point of CrossFit is competing with a group while getting a form of training in a group setting. All of that was removed from the situation and so the cost should have followed, in my personal opinion. If you had decreased the cost to $50-$70, I wouldn't feel so taken aback by the choices made by this facility. A percentage of the work on your part for the full price. Most of us work for our money, and I feel you should have worked for yours, or decreased to alleviate others during a difficult time. I wasn't the only one plagued by these actions, others with whom I came into contact with felt the same way. I just want others to think twice before they choose this CrossFit. I would have happily supported your survival by paying $50-$70, just to keep your dream of having a gym alive, but because of the actions taken during a critical time in so many lives, I could never support this business or this business owner, Andrew, again. I encourage anyone taking the time to read this review to choose a different branch of CrossFit and to not support CrossFit Intensify. -Taylor
