Great dojo for kids and adults. My 7 y.o. studies karate and…read morejudo under sensei Alan Best. Sensei best has a great balance of patience and high expectations with the kids. I've seen my young one grow in discipline and technical competence under Sensei Best's instruction. My oldest son and I attend the teen/adult Judo class and it's awesome. It's a heck of a workout. The instructors are highly proficient and good at teaching what they know. From teenage girls to old guys like me everyone is treated with respect and a growth mindset. Very kind and supportive culture which is important when you are choking and throwing your classmates.

Best Martial Arts Institute is, in my opinion, the finest martial arts studio in Lane County. Sensei Alan Best has been teaching martial arts professionally for over 20 years, and his instructors are all highly qualified. Sensei Jay Kufner deserves special note, as he teaches some of the best kids classes I have ever witnesses. Furthermore, he is able to bring his knowledge of other styles (eskrima and capoeira, for example) and incorporate them into the more traditional adult classes. Yes, the classes are hard, but in a very good way; you will sweat, you will learn, and you will have a great time doing so. If you are looking for a great workout, want to learn a new skill, or are just looking for a fun new activity, I highly recommend giving Best Martial Arts Institute a try.

I originally went to Albany Shao-Lin Kempo Dojo for women's self defense classes. I got that and so…read moremuch more. Taking Karate classes has made me stronger, more disciplined, confident, healthier and I've even lost weight. I've gained a new purpose in life and that is to learn and excel in Karate, strengthening myself mentally and physically with the guidance of my instructor and encouragement of my classmates. The American Schools of Shao-Lin Kempo also has a website, Dragon Fuel, with workout routines, meal plans, trackers and lots of other helpful stuff. After about 4 months of training here I earned my yellow belt which I'm so proud of myself for! Kevin is a fantastic instructor, encouraging, attentive and knowledgeable with a great sense of humor, he's been an inspiration for me to keep pushing forward towards my ultimate goal of achieving black belt! The other students are friendly and welcoming and have made me feel at home. Even if you're not in the best of shape when you begin here, you'll be surprised at what you can achieve. 100 stars out of 10, highly recommend!

We've had such an unfortunate experience working with Mr. Kevin. There was an incident with our…read morespecial needs child where she was told to "grow up" and sent to the bathroom bawling. I brought this to the instructor's attention and was met with multiple excuses. At this point, our daughter has refused to go back and we paid for 3 more months that our child won't be attending. When my husband asked for a refund as we paid in advance, Mr. Kevin told him they do not issue refunds. Be careful of this place. It's not a supportive environment for everyone & has left our daughter feeling extremely unsafe. I wish I would've listened to my gut the first time we met Mr. Kevin cause there were a lot of red flags. Lesson learned. Hope to spare another family from making the same mistake. We have made multiple attempts to bring concerns we had to Mr. Kevin's attention upon the incident happening and were met with excuses. We have also attempted to get a copy of this "contract" he claims we have signed, yet his website says no contracts. He agreed to send the contract to my husband for review, yet we have still never seen it or received a response. It is all very shady business practices & I would STRONGLY caution anyone who is considering signing your child up here to go literally anywhere else. This is not a safe or supportive environment from our experience. In the 3 months my daughter attended, her self esteem took a hit & she felt extremely unsafe while under his supervision. We have an obligation to protect our children from people like this in the world.

I started bringing my son in for Taekwondo lessons after Mrs. VP taught a lesson at my sons school. She also handed out free first month and uniform vouchers which was a great incentive to start. I drive about 30 min to bring my son twice a week and joined my son in the family Taekwondo classes. I thought I'd have to find a closer and cheaper martial arts school when we first started but I quickly found out that it was defiantly worth the investment for my sons future.

They do provide healthy activities for children and adults, but also examples of respect, discipline, and courtesy for everyone. During the shutdown they maintained an online schedule and as we all emerge they have practices in place to do so safely. They have ramped up their already thorough cleaning procedures, adjusted class sizes for extra distancing, and modified lessons reducing equipment use. They can monitor everyone who comes in and still provide high quality education. Having this opportunity gives students and parents a place to interact responsibly, and having the school open to go to gives me motivation to suit up and show up for my own benefit as well as to help other students.
