It was a pleasure to deal with Ty, the Pay Less repair guy, when he came to fix our dishwasher that had slowly started to act up like a spoiled primadonna having a post-prime meltdown on opening night. The repair became more involved than initially thought, requiring separate trips to retrieve a pump, and later a water valve, yet Ty never lost his cheery demeanor. Instead, he calmly explained what was happening, showed us what was wrong, and took off to get the parts we needed. I had been on the fence about repairing a dishwasher of indeterminate age (since it was here when we moved in four years ago), but Ty reassured us that Bosch made quality appliances, and noted that it was hard-wired into the electric supply, so it's not like I could just pick up a new one and plug it in without involving an electrician. Plus, someone else remarked that there was no sense in throwing away something that could be fixed. Ty was thorough. The repairs required pulling the unit out of its under-counter spot, disassembling the front of it, then laying it on its side to access the components. After if was put back together with the new parts, Ty stuck around to test it thoroughly and make sure that we'd get a few more years of reliable service. I essentially paid $100 to have someone look at my oven for 15 minutes and tell me you need to get a new one. Pros: Quick response time for quotes, showed up on time for the diagnostic, generally cool and friendly, cheap prices. Cons: After I got the assessment that my oven would need a new motherboard that would take 2-3 weeks to come in, I gave the go ahead to place the order. After that, I constantly had to follow up asking about the status of the parts order. After I had to follow up again, I was told the part would have to be sourced internationally and would take even more weeks to come in. At that point I gave up and just purchased a new oven and was told I couldn't use the $100 I already paid as a credit towards installation. Business needs better organization. read more

My 94 year old Mom's Whirlpool washer broke. (My Mom is 94, the washer was about 5 years old :) It is critical that we have a working washer for her. Called Pay Less and they dispatched an excellent tech that afternoon. The cam broke on the machine, probably due to the heavy bed chocks that were being washed. Parts were ordered and within two days the parts came in and the tech returned not only to fix the machine like new, but taught my Mom's aide how to go easy on washing too many chocks at one time as they get very heavy in the wash. I can certainly understand that because in their line of work, you never know how long a repair is going to take.
