Perhaps, only if you're seeking the smallest game on a very short trip. Is there really such a thing ever as having TOO much? Perhaps, there is no such a thing if you're a "responsible" prepper or an avid enthusiast seeking to advance yourself to handle just about ANY situation thrown your way - including the apocalypse. I definitely do not believe there is such a thing as having too much. And I can bet on it that most of the people here today at Kittery Trading Post feel the same way. Yes, the prices are mostly MSRP and sometimes higher. Yes, you can most likely (99% of the time) get a better deal elsewhere (especially online). But where can you actually have the opportunity to TOUCH everything or be likely seduced to WANT more because you weren't aware that such an item even existed? Here, at KTP, that is exactly what happens. You think you have a particular item in mind? How about being thrown more options that most other stores even dream of carrying? Thought you liked something online? How about holding that item in person and deciding if it is the right fit for just a fraction more of the price (and avoid the need to make returns for the most part?) How about being swayed into another product because you "apparently" didn't research it enough to realize there are even BETTER options that fit your exact needs (or because it's more expensive and you can justify it in person, lol)? Kittery Trading Post is definitely one of my ultimate retail spots as an outdoor enthusiast and an avid prepper (for whatever possible events will ever unfold in my fantasies). And every time I'm here, I always leave with at least one new toy for the personal arsenal. Definitely love this place even if it's not exactly the best bang for the buck.

They usually have events every weekend as well to drive visitors to their store so it's pretty busy all thr time. If you're one of those people that likes to explore recreational clothing, shoes, and equipment in person, this is the place to go.

They have shiners, worms, spikes... everything you need. It's self service. If they are not around its the honor system for payment. You grab what you need, write it in the notebook, and leave your payment (cash only) in the box. Shop local.

Upper Valley Outfitters is the only dedicated fly fishing store you're likely to find anywhere in…read morethe Upper Valley, an area where the waters are big and plentiful but the fishing shops seem suspiciously scarce. Apparently most people in the Upper Valley are making their hooks out of old straight pins. Staff at UVO are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and their fly selection is awesome. Hand tied flies here are affordable compared to other fly shops I'm used to, and they conveniently keep a bunch of proven local patterns that are in season right near the register so you can run in, get what you need for that afternoon, and run out. UVO staff will help you find local waters to fish in and help you figure out times of day to fish them. Be careful of the Connecticut and White Rivers rising on hot summer afternoons when they have to generate more hydroelectric power, as the pool you waded into might suddenly become too deep to wade out of! Also, when you get to the area and find out the felt-soled wading boots you brought from home are illegal here, this is where you'll need to go to remedy the situation. There is an excellent supply of fly tying materials available at UVO, and they deal in Hardy, St. Croix, and a number of other top-name rods and reels. If I lived in the Upper Valley, I'd probably hang out in this place once a week or so. The only thing I don't like about UVO is that they don't sell Vermont fishing licenses even though they're so close to the VT border. The way the state makes them available to vendors is apparently more trouble than it's worth, which is why it's so hard to find anywhere to get a license on the Vermont side of the Upper Valley. None of this, of course, is UVO's fault. So, if you're planning a fishing getaway in the Upper Valley, make sure to know where this place is and how to get here beforehand, because this resource is invaluable and necessary. I even caught fish on the flies they sold me here, which means they're not just selling pretty trinkets that only people like. Happy fishing!

I recently bought a Van Staal vr150 and they switched it to bai lless at no extra charge. The reel price was actually a few bucks cheaper than amazon... which is bananas to think about. And the switch to bail less isn't easy, just read the comments under Craigs video on you tube. No brainer of a purchase. The ladies give free advice and share gossip from other fisherman on important topics: where the fish are and what they are chasing at the moment, what baits are hatching or being born. You get the feeling they have forgotten more about fishing than most know and will answer questions and provide advice. I am a real tight ass when it comes to budget. I support my wife and kids NOT local business. I shop here because their prices are fair and they add value buy helping with all sorts of questions. I don't get some of the comments about the store being pricey. Based upon what I have purchased their prices are fair. They have all the mass produced plastic lures like Daiwa with in 50 cents of walmarts price.... and surfland has a much larger selection. If you are new to fishing or unsure of what to buy Surfland has a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I walked one day and requested hooks for carp fishing... she wasn't sure what would be best, so she googled it on an ipad, used her knowledge and experience and discussed option and provided the right hook. Plus they have many small plug builders which can be dangerous if you have a PPA (plug purchasing addiction) I became a customer after fin and feather closed. It's a great store and I am so impressed and I will return.
