We did both the board & train and the weekly lessons. Our younger dog was boarded while I did weekly lessons with our older dog. Troy was fantastic to work with in both programs. When 2 of our 3 dogs started having frequent fights that led to stitches and vet visits, we knew we needed serious help. I can't be happier with the outcome thus far. My background: I work & volunteer in the pet industry. My pets are my babies (yes, I am one of those). My dog is a 1.5 yr old pit mix that was rescued from being left to die in the desert as a puppy (6months old apx when they found her). My dog's nickname was black mamba & Eris (goddess of chaos) because she was a wild child. I knew I needed to be a good owner & wanted to have a dog I can take everywhere so therefore, I sought out training. I did a lot of research when it came to finding the perfect trainer for my dog. After searching through many trainers I found Troy. I know he isn't the cheapest but his experience and his outlook peaked my interest. I even read the reviews on here before booking our evaluation. Nicole on here mentioned his conversations. He is very straight to the point but, sometimes you have to be. This isn't enough to drive me away so long as you are good at what you do. I wasn't sure what to think going into our evaluation but, he quickly put me to ease. He was very thorough, explained everything and taught me more about dogs, training and etc than any class or workshop I have taken for my profession. I was so so so impressed. After the first class, I could tell there was a change in my dog, even my parents saw a drastic change in her. What he said made sense. On the second class, I admitted I wasn't working with her as much as I prob should do to family matters and asked about doing boarding training. He stopped and talked to me about it all. He was extremely caring! He talked to me about the boarding but, really thought she would do well and it would help me with the private classes. I didn't disagree. By the third class she had it down! So we went to his group class which he was so impressive with how he had all the dogs in check and to see how well my dog was doing. I feel as though he taught me so so much, my dog and I's bond is now closer than before. She is no longer as nervous as she was before. She is listening so much better. She still has some work to do but, she has a solid foundation thanks to Troy. Words of advice: Book fast! His schedule fills up so quick. Don't take his emails serious - he may come off hard because he is straight to the point; but he is extremely caring and nice. Understand he isn't going to be PetSmart prices, but you are paying for results, quality and his experience. To me it was worth every penny and he stands behind his work vs. other places where you keep paying for more sessions and then it adds up to the same amount or more anyways. read more

Troy has done so much to improve the quality of all of our lives, we came to him because we could not handle our dogs, we are staying at a retirement park, the dogs were reactive and snipping at people, we knew we needed help. Last year we adopted a Border Collie named Kip. Within the first week of him being in our home, he bit at least one person and snapped at several others. Needless to say we were concerned as we have an active home with three teenagers and my grandbaby, who was only 6 months old, is a regular visitor. We contemplated returning Kip to the rescue group from which we adopted him, but we did not feel right about giving up as, despite the behavior, he did not seem like an aggressive dog. In fact, he was in a submissive position when he bit my daughter and was in a down position when he snapped at the vet. As Troy Bogden had helped us with Holly, our Chihuahua, several years ago, I decided to give him a call. Troy is one of the most relaxed, calm, peaceful person I think I have ever met. All the fear and trepidation I felt about our situation melted away after meeting with Troy for Kip's initial evaluation. He agreed Kip was not an aggressive dog, but instead was a "fear" biter. Troy went on to explain, Kip had probably given several warning signs prior prior to biting, but we were not aware or did not notice them. Based on the results of the evaluation, he recommended we sign up for his "Good Dog! Program". The syllabus for the 'Good Dog! Program" is provided on Troy's website (www.pawstotrainyourdog.com). At a high level the class seems pretty basic and the lifetime membership to the Paws Social Club as well as the lifetime support are nice extras. We also liked the fact we could board Kip with Troy during vacations. I must admit the price of the program seemed high for what we thought would be a typical dog training class. But I promise you this in not your run-of-the-mill dog obedience class. Instead, it is a wonderful and amazing journey into the life of a dog. Troy uses unique techniques to effectively describe and demonstrate how human behavior directly affects a dog's behavior. For example, would you go up to a stranger on the street rub them on the head and say "you're soooo cute" in a baby voice? No, you probably wouldn't, so what makes you think a dog would like it? I'll give you a hint, they don't. He also provided us with several relatable examples we could share with our teenagers to help them better understand Kip's reactions to their behaviors. Troy might be calm, but his is also tough. He wants you to get your money's worth and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure all your concerns are addressed. But don't show up for class without your homework done , a handful of excuses, and expect positive results. If you are inconsistent, you will get inconsistent results. Between the hands-on classes, handouts, and other recommended resources Troy provided us with everything we needed to help Kip, but he also helped us become more insightful humans. On a side note, because of Troy's class I get massages on a regular basis to help be be a better human for my dogs. It has been about six months since our last hands on class with Troy. How is it going? It is going well. Yes, we have had some minor setbacks, but that is because we failed Kip. When we stray for the concepts taught in class, so does Kip. But thankfully, we always have a lifeline to call if we have a problem or question. And yes, we have called Troy for help. He responded almost immediately and helped get us back on track. Bottom line, if you are looking for a basic obedience class, go to your local Petsmart. But if you are looking to develop a meaningful, lifelong relationship with your dog, look no further. First. You have to understand dogs, specifically your dog. You can't work with them unless you understand them. Our dog (Boomer) would shake, I thought it was excitement. Troy read Boomer right away ... he wasn't excited he was fearful. Seriously ... you obviously work differently with a dog that is excited versus one that is fearful. Just makes sense, but you have to know your dog, and Troy does. That's just one thing, just a small sample of what we have learned working with Troy. Awareness. Sometimes you just don't even realize the growth, you only see it on a micro scale because you are with your dog 24x7. We first got Boomer at about 1 or 2 years of age, a stray dog rescued from running the desert. He was absolutely fearful of Vets and vet offices ... flopping around like a fish, alligator roles, backed up cowering in the corner, growling, barking, nipping, biting ... all of this in the exam room ... and that was all with two types of sedation working in his system. We eventually found Troy, and we now have been training with Troy (Boomer and us) for a year. A sample of our growth (Boomer and us) ... Boomer had a sore paw, soreness/limping wouldn't go away, we had to do the ultimate fear of ours ... take him to the vet. Troy met us at the Vet's office ... Boomer had made so much progress/growth ... turned out we didn't even really need Troy because so much progress had been made. But, good that Troy was there, it was a new experience with the new Boomer, and Troy walked us through how to work with Boomer with the Vet. Wow! What a difference! What an awesome event. Boomer allowed the Vet to come close, not just close, but actually exam him ... what a difference. We hadn't realized the growth. Boomer's not perfect yet, neither are we ... but what a thrilling discovery of improvement in Boomer ... and us ... we've learned so much from our state of mind to our approach with Boomer. I wanted to wait a couple of weeks after Doggie bootcamp so I could give a true review. I can honestly say Troy has changed our lives. We rescued a sweet german shepherd mix in January and she turned our lives upside down. She is the sweetest pup with many bad behaviors (or so we thought). Come to find out we were the ones with the bad behaviors. Troy helped us see that Ember was just a very insecure and anxious dog that craved structure and clear direction. Before working with Troy, Ember would bark at us constantly, chew our belongings, nip at us, pull on her leash, counter surf and terrorize our other dog. Ember has been home 2 weeks now and is like a new pup! She no longer barks at us, doesn't nip, walks nicely on a leash, plays much better with our other dog, doesn't get on our counters and hasn't destroyed anything. She is finally calm, happy and content, and so are we. While continuing to work with Ember, we are also using what Troy taught us with our other dog and can already see a huge difference. This review is long overdue! I have a sharpei, pit mix. We rescued him about 3 years ago. For those first two years I lived in constant stress because although my dog seemed to be great with people, he really had issues with other dogs. I could not walk my dog around the neighborhood without him lunging at other dogs. It got to be so bad that I soon became "that lady" in the neighborhood that had the "nasty pit bull." I started to get up super early to walk him so that I could avoid other dogs. Our mailman hated coming to our house and when people came to the door they were terrified. How sad. Well after a few close calls with Durango getting into some scuffles with some dogs, I finally decided to call in the experts. I originally called another trainer that worked with another dog of mine in the past, and she quickly referred me to Troy, as he is an expert with dog behavior. Troy was a God send. He not only knows how to read dogs behavior and body signals, he teaches you how to read them and learn to listen to what your dog is saying so you can appropriately react to what he is telling you. Really, if I'm honest, even though it's called Dog training, he's really training the owners. The dogs are the easy part. I am happy to report that after completing Troys program, and continued participation in the social group classes, my dog is like a completely different dog. He has learned how to calm himself in stressful situations and if he gets stuck, he now knows to look to me and I will help him through it... because I am now listening to my dog. I even took him to Petsmart the other day, there were other dogs there that were stressed and even with that going on around him, I had three different people comment to me what a well behaved dog he was, and that he was.... get this...."so calm" That right there folks is a testament to what a little dedication and hard work will get you. Is he the perfect dog? No of course not. Do we have the occasional set backs? Yep. It is a constant learning process, but boy am I less stressed about my dogs behavior, which in turn trickles down to the dog. I'm calmer.... he's calmer. As a side bonus, even my kids have learned how to be calmer. And that, I didn't have to even pay for. I know that a training program like this can freak people out because of the expense. I will tell you that it was worth every penny. You can either pay for training, or pay for medical bills or new carpet or new landscaping later because your dog is out of control. Troy helped me get my 5 puggles to behave. My pugs are my fur babies, yes I know but they are all the family I have. I couldn't understand why they were so unhappy that they needed to bark and growl at visitors and fight with each other. It got so bad I had to separate them into 2 groups and my friends stopped coming over. I lived with this for 2 years and it brought me to tears, I couldn't live like this but I didn't know what to do. After hiring a couple trainers that did nothing except recommend I get rid of some of them, I found Troy. My dogs were changed after the first training session! We found Daisy at the Humane Society, but she had been turned in by an elderly woman who was a shut in. Daisy was almost 9 months old when we got her, but she had never been socialized, potty trained, walked on a leash, taught any basic commands at all and was super hyper and terrified of everything. She couldn't be near other dogs without lunging and growling. Even with all that, we could see that she was a sweet, loving pit bull mix who deserved a chance. I enrolled her in basic obedience at a local pet store and she passed that class and we moved on to the next, but she really didn't learn much. I was still struggling with walking calmly on a leash, her extreme anxiety around other dogs and her not listening when she got excited. After spending thousands on trainers that were not able to help me with Charlotte, my rescued St Bernard, I finally hit the jackpot with Troy! The first step is an in-depth personal evaluation of your dog. He charges $50 and spent about 3 hours with us going over the issues and solutions. I honestly got more information (and information that WORKED!) out of that $50 evaluation than I had out of all the previous trainers put together. Its only been a few weeks, but both Charlotte and I are much happier now that we are following his methods. Our walks were a nightmare in the past and after she had knocked me down and dragged me in the street a few times I was hesitant to take her out. When my husband and I rescued a Dobie mix off the street who had zero experience being a pet, I knew I would need some training! Little did I realize how overwhelmed I was by my trio of dogs.
