I have been purchasing dog food from this store for years and have spent a lot of money there. I purchased an over the counter allergy testing kit there for $80. I returned it for a refund. The store owner called me today and was so belligerent, rude and degrading. I will never purchase anything from them again! Karen, this product wasn't used! The 3 swabs, comb, and baggy that were in the kit was untouched. I returned the item to Paws for a refund, where I purchased it from. This company offers a 100% guarantee and refund on this product, which is noted on their website. So this shouldnt have been a problem. I really try to stay out of the Big Box stores when buying food and/or any other thing I might need/want for my three dogs. Paws made it very easy for me to do this when I discovered that the food and treats I regularly buy actually cost less in their store than they do in the BB (Big Box). I love the idea of the family owned business and supporting local folk. I know that the Paws owners' do a lot of good in the community for causes involving cats and dogs. I was needing to find a good quality food for my dog and cats and the owner and daughter took so much time with me so I was able to choose food that was right fit for my animals (and me!) . This is the BEST PET FOOD STORE ever!!! The owner here she knows a lot about feeding dog and cat. I and my boyfriend together have a few dogs and a cat too feed. We first started with commercial brands like Blue Buffalo but then we switch to natural pet food like Orijen and Acana. They carry all kinds of dog treats and dog food at a pretty good price... A 15 lb bag Orijen dog food is about 50 bucks. and they have variety kinds of Cat Canned Food priced from 1$ to 4$. After we moved to the area we were looking for a place to buy our cat food (Wellness). Since we prefer smaller stores over the yucky Petco we decided to check this one out. Nice clean store, with a big selection of healthy pet foods. The people were nice, but the prices were a bit higher than what we were used to. No problem, they let us pricematch! I stumbled upon this shop when it was on State street and was very pleased with everything, but when they relocated I had no idea they were even in business until I once again stumbled upon them. The owners are very pleasant, nice people. I always enjoy talking to them. I love that they are pet friendly and have so many options. The female owner has always taken her time with me to explain product and recommend suggestions. For that I am grateful. However, due to the store manager (who I've heard is a long-standing friend of the owners) I will not be going back. I have had two incredibly rude incidents with that man. The first incident, I chalked it up to him having an off day. The second and most recent time, sealed the deal. He's as catty as any woman I've ever encountered. Even some of their younger employees had surprised looks on their faces after his biting tongue behavior with me. After leaving the store, I actually did some homework and discovered that the $80 bag of dog food I was purchasing from them could also be purchased at Petco for $5 more or on Amazon for $10 less. Truth be told, I'd be happy to pay an extra $5 to be treated as a valued customer. Even the Petco staff in town recognizes me when I come in as I frequent the store often due to my involvement with rescue. It's a shame that the manager doesn't realize that a small business is only successful due to loyal customers. A loyal customer will see the value in supporting a local business as opposed to a retail giant. A loyal customer will likely love the one on one interaction as opposed to the detached assistance you typically get at a retail giant. It's additionally shameful that the manager take it upon himself to treat anyone with such biting demeanor. If it were his store, I could see him not caring whether he loses the business or not but he's actually working for them... and in my case worked me right on to another path to obtain my dog's food. read more

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase any kind of food for my dogs at Paws, because I know that if it wasn't good for the dogs, they wouldn't carry it. The store is clean as a whistle, and very orderly, and I enjoy browsing to see what's new. They always have the store well staffed, and because I have three dogs, I buy a huge bag of food. The girl working the counter was super nice & knowledgeable. I have been coming to Paws for years, back from before they had their fire on State Street. I love this store! The people working here are always nice and helpful and knowledgeable When my cat was having issues with her food, they gave me suggestions and when the first one didn't work, they gave me my money back and a sample of a different food to try. We found the perfect one and she is now much healthier and her fur is still beautiful at 15 years of age. I always purchase a large bag of dog food and they always offer to carry it out to the car for me. I appreciate keeping my business in our town with a family owned business. If this place was not the only place within a reasonable distance from my house that carried my dog's special food (AND I wasnt so close to getting my free bag after ten purchases)....I likely would not come. They are so overpriced on all of their items particularly toys. And while they are friendly they have really odd personalities that make any discussion uncomfortable....especially the one like I tried to have when I asked them why a stuffed toy smaller than the palm of my hand was priced at $12.95. They were taken back by my question and the only response I got (repeated a few times) was that it was made in the USA. I would love to continue to support local businesses but when they raise prices to this extent they push me closer and closer to doing everything on websites like Amazon. The fancy pet stores in northern cali werent this expensive....and everything is pricey up there! Best part of all of this is the defensiveness that it stimulated in them.... hey no need to get riled up...just do some price checks. P.s. I was smiling in the store and Im smiling as I write this.... Im not some grumpster trying to close a family biz...just a dog owner and dog trainer that wishes buying quality things at a reasonable price was possible in my own town. Love this store! I give my dog Solid Gold Flax Seed Oil. The only place I had been able to get it was out in Mira Loma. When I inquired about it at Paws, it was no problem for them to order it for me and they typically will have it in within a couple of days. Also, their premium dog foods are cheaper than the large chain pet stores. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. When I first started reading reviews I judged people that left negative review just because they were negative and the world has enough of that already why add to it. However, after the experience I had with Jeff at this store supposedly the store manager, I just had to say it here because I was treated so badly. Apparently, there are quite a few others with similar experiences, as well. I am writing to validate that their stories are most likely true, at least as true as I believe my story is. The only two people that can change the problem with customer service at Paws are Karen the owner and Jeff the store manager. You both know Jeff's version of the story and out of not wanting to burden the rest of the readers with the entire story, I am just going to say that; Karen you have gotten only one side of the story from Jeff, and doing business in this manner will eventually cost you customers. People in Redlands are educated and discerning dog lovers and will not take poor treatment for the few items that you carry at your store that can be easily obtained elsewhere What started with a problem with Merrick having had a kibble size quality issue that spanned over the course of several lot numbers that were sold to the public at Paws, ended in getting kicked out of the store, when I have supported this store over using box stores for more than ten years. The issue; you guys were selling bags of Merrick classic that had a normal size kibble in it and it should have had a toy bite size kibble. After consulting with Jeff and Jeff consulting with Merrick when they visited the store, I was credited one bag of toy kibble. Jeff was helpful and accommodating with that first bag. This happened two times only the second time I crushed the kibble and used it anyway. When it came time to purchase another bag I was calling to see if the lot number that had the problem kibble size had sold out yet, so I could actually end up with what was supposed to be in the bag of toy kibble, Jeff denied there was ever a problem and was quite belligerent on the phone with me when he "assumed" I was asking for some kind of concession to the kibble size problem, when had he listened carefully he would have easily understood that I was calling to check, so that he would not be put in the previous situation of having to open bags to check kibble size and/or credit bags unnecessarily. Leaning on what he thought I was saying, he became unreasonable and argumentative very quickly and of course I was appalled and mad as well so I said goodbye. I waited over a week before returning to the store to purchase dog food for my other dog and he was amazingly haughty with me even a week later. I said nothing in return, trying to eat crow to get my dog his dog food as I went to the register with the bag of food, he said I thought you were not coming back to the store, and I said I almost didn't anyway the conversation escalated and he threw my credit card at me and snatched up the dog food I was buying and told me to leave the store. I am quite sure he had been harboring this event for the week that had past because he escalated so quickly. As God as my witness, I was so dumfounded. His behavior was so ridicules that at first I thought he was joking. He got himself so riled up that his lower lip was quivering as he yelled. And can you believe his story is that "I" was "So, rude to him on the phone! " A few final words, this will probably be retaliated against, at some point within these written reviews, but it will not be entirely truthful and God will know the truth of what happened. People who move against people so easily generally will continue to show this kind of behavior when under pressure and this will happened again to someone else. Read the way the owner responds to some of the negative reviews, her responses in and of themselves are haughty and argumentative, so in a way none of this surprises me now, but it sure did at first. Merrick is very helpful and willing to provide answers to help you out. They were very candid about the wrong extruder size used to make the kibble and said it had been corrected. I think they are waiting for that lot to sell out, because they could not guarantee a place where I could purchase what I needed, from a different lot number . I am sorry to all the folks on here that had a similar negative experience with customer service and to the folks that have not had a run in yet....great, I hope you don't it is hurtful and exasperating, but know you are not immune to it, and if it happens do not blame yourself, the customer service is not consistently good enough to say it is quality service. For good customer service a person has to want to help more than they want to argue. read more

I absolutely love this locally owned pet store. When I moved here from Oregon, I couldn't find the dog food I'd used in Oregon, Taste of the Wild. I check out this pet store and found they had my kibble and canned food. They carry a number of high quality, natural foods for both dogs and cats. I've also tried to find certain leashes in specific colors and lengths that I couldn't find at big box pet stores. When I let Paws know what I was looking for, they were actually able to find the items I wanted. I've been going to them for almost 2 1/2 years now and I am just so thankful that I found their store. I suppose I'm in the minority, but considering I've been in many boutiques around the country and know what they can be capable of, this store fell quite flat! It looks like a warehouse, the inventory looked like it had been quite picked over, and the entire place absolutely REEKED of cat pee. Some of the food brands aren't bad, but also not hard to find.
