Found by accident while vacationing. Small establishment with very helpful staff. We had a large party, so we called ahead. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated. Simple yet purposeful menu. I selected the crabcakes Orleans. It was 3 crabcakes served atop rice or pasta with a creole sauce and shrimp. Crabcakes were flavorful and had a great mixture of spices. The creole sauce atop was a great addition, I could have used more. Only negative was I found a couple pieces of shell in my crabcakes. Not a big issue, but it is worth mentioning. The people here are so friendly and inviting. It's a sweet spot. We arrived just before the storm of people arrived. There was one other person in the dining room. Their crew behaved like a loving family would. It's located off the beaten path of "Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg". It was such a pleasant experience. Before we finished our food the entire place was full. The food is fantastic! We absolutely loved everything and we ordered as much as we could, we had dinner and leftovers. By far the best Cajun food I've had outside of Louisiana and south Mississippi. I got the oyster poboy and hushpuppies which tasted like home. The hushpuppies weren't sweet like some places and the poboy bread was identical to what you'd get in Nola. The fries are battered and crispy. The shrimp was also good. My mother ordered the roast beef poboy and it was sort of chipped instead of thinly sliced, which I've never seen before and she wasn't terribly impressed with that but it wasn't bad. They have alligator on the menu if you enjoy it. We went on a Saturday for dinner and there was about a 30 minute wait to be seated since it's not very big but well worth it. The staff were all friendly and the owners are from Louisiana, lots of LSU merch and Fleur de Lis accents. My only complaint was the ceiling fans and frigid temps inside. I would ask to be moved next time if seated near a fan. Overall a great local business with authentic food. read more

"Tennessee" Cajun Cooking at its best - I mean that in the most sincerest of ways. I grew up in Louisiana and I have eaten and cooked cajun food my entire life so I feel reviewing Pawpaw's is in my wheel house. I was very excited to try out this cute little restaurant with a New Orlean's theme, the folks here are extremely friendly and accommodating and it had a "welcome to my home" feel to it. I thought it was very clean and clutter free and the restroom was immaculate. The simple setting does give you the feeling that you could be in any small town in southern Louisiana and the efforts in the kitchen should be applauded although Cajun cuisine is a culture not easily learned even if you're the most talented Chef. The layers of seasoning can't be measured in a measuring cup or with a spoon - it's all about taste and adjustments as you go, it's also about textures and color each layer must be completed before moving to the next step so you get the complexity, these are the things not always taken into consideration, it's like trying to learn your grandmothers favorite dish if she speaks a different language and doesn't have anything written down - ce n'est pas si difficile si vous faites attention. I can't go to a cajun restaurant without trying their gumbo, it's definitely the barometer for measuring cajun food. I tried the traditional chicken and sausage gumbo - it was just okay the roux was a little light and it was thin and really lacked any seasoning so it was a little bland in my opinion. The chicken was good the sausage was weak it lacked any smoky flavor and was the diameter of a Slim Jim and evasive (almost non-existence). We really stopped in for the fried catfish, and we each ordered the basket the fries were meh - I was hoping for those frozen crinkle fries honestly - the basket was loaded with 3 large fresh fillets, the breading was perfect and it was cooked perfectly but again no seasoning the Chef needs to understand people are expecting it to be seasoned, that's the theme here. I jacked up the ketchup with lots of Louisiana Hot Sauce and used it to dip verses using the tartare sauce. Don't take my criticism as a negative its just my descriptive nature and opinion, I'd eat here again - this restaurant has definitely separated itself from any other restaurant in the area so it should be on your to do list if you're looking for something unique to the area... read more

We got the hush puppies, crab cakes over pasta with cajun sauce, the catfish poe bow and finished it off with the banana pudding with white chocolate on top. Every single thing was the best I've ever had. HIGHLY recommend the banana pudding with white chocolate on top, it was so decedent and delicious.
