I went for my Birthday as I do almost every year . The service was very good and our waitress was very attentive to our needs. I started off with a dozen New River Oysters, they were fresh and delicious, but the crackers they brought out were stale and some of them were already open, which may be why some were stale. I ordered the wasabi Tuna on rice and a baked potato and the spouse had the grilled salmon on rice with baked potato. My Tuna started out good as the first couple of bites were easily cut off the steak , but then there was a very big piece of white grisly tendon that run the entire length of the fish and it was impossible to cut with the butter knife that I was given. Then it got worse when the potato had a thumb sized black place once I started eating the potato. Needless to say I was not very happy with my Birthday meal, my wife's salmon was perfectly cooked and her potato was fine. Im sure that if I had complained about the meal, they would have cooked me another meal, but when you are spending 130 dollars on a great meal in a upscale restaurant you expect that the chef and staff have properly trimed the fish and inspected the potato for bad places and you could see the black spot on the outside as well as the inside. I can't say that I have had a bad meal at Chesapeakes before today, but it's doubtful that I will go back. Another thing in all of my Birthday meals there,I have always been given a complimentary dessert to take home in the past. As the meal portions ,plus the dozen Oysters that I always get is alot of food, but no offer from the waitress this time. My husband and I stopped in for an early dinner and we had the luck of getting John Michael as our server. He was very personable and we had a nice conversation with him. He was also well versed in the menu and gave us great recommendations. The food is very good - especially the crabcakes! We started off with the soup - my husband had the gumbo, which he deemed just okay. I had the cream of crab soup which was excellent! They bring out a variety of breads - a couple of rolls, a couple of muffins and a couple of croissants - so delicious! We had the crab stuffed mushrooms, which were a little dry, but still tasty. My husband and I each had the broiled seafood platter that included shrimp, scallops, cod and a crabcake with choice of a side. For dessert, we chose the Chocolate Butter cake - oh, my word!! Very disappointed in our experience for a birthday dining event. I feel like a 3 is very generous for the price. For an upscale dining establishment it was shocking that upon being sat the first thing I noticed was the seats in our booth were actually ripped and torn and there were big chips out of the table top. Hmm. Waitress approached in a decent timeframe. Nothing above or below par on that. We got our drinks quickly too. Now the food is where it definitely fell short and that's what I'm so bummed about! My food was very cold and had to be sent back. It came back out nice and hot which was good but the grits were overly smokey and shockingly bland. I had to add a ton of butter and salt to make them better. My husband's food was hot but he said the gravy/sauce literally tasted old and like "dirt". It was gross. He ate the 5 total shrimp on it and left the rest. Overall, neither of us enjoyed our meals for my birthday and when we got a hot version of my meal the manager approached me in a creepy and weird role-play voice and made a weird comment. He also looked like/acted like something was askew. It felt really awkward. I thought they did free birthday dessert but I guess not. Our reservation said it was for my birthday and it was a bit of a bummer nobody even said happy birthday. Between the birthday and my cold food I was hoping they'd surprise me with for a free dessert, haha. But alas, none. We ordered one anyways to go. It was huge but it was sent home ice cold (barely defrosted). I'm not sure if that's normal? We were hoping to eat it right when we got home to celebrate and it had to be totally heated up, not just warmed a tad. That was an unexpected bummer. Also, it really wasn't great. We had half left over and it'll go in the trash. It was not a good value for our money and the taste was simply just not there. We'll never even eat the leftovers. It's sad when your husband thinks the bread was the best part of the meal but he was afraid to send it back since there was already something wrong with my meal and it was my birthday. We've tried several different seafood dishes over the years. Our last visit we ordered a salmon dish with tzatziki sauce from their specials and the steamed seafood feast to share. It was delicious. The staff is amazing as well. Always fun, kind and helpful. My husband also mentioned this last time how he feels comfortable at the restaurant, even when sitting in the middle of the room. Sunday brunch. Chesapeake's, though downtown, is a little out of the way and just a bit tricky to find without GPS on. There's a decent sized parking lot, though the restaurant is surprisingly large inside, so I completely understand other's comments on parking being a problem. I expect we'll always dine early or do brunch and avoid the peak times. It's a pleasant space, a bit worn, but with various areas to sit, and lots of aquariums throughout, it's quite appealing. Everyone from front desk to wait staff were happy, helpful, and friendly. I had a cup of the daily special scallop chowder, thick and tasty, followed by the smoked trout appetizer. The trout was served as a cold filet with grilled toast points, capers, red onion and egg. I thought it a very nice light plate as a brunch main. The wife had the veggie omelet with delmarva potatoes and liked it. It's missing a little of the charm of the Gatlinburg location, which sits directly by the river, where you can watch the running water and ducks while you dine. But the Knoxville location is still such a pleasant place for seafood that I'm certain we'll be regulars whenever we're in town. read more

We were given a $100 Visa gift card for Christmas and tried to use it at this restaurant. They will not accept gift cards unless the bill is for the exact amount or the gift card or less. we tried to use the gift card and pay cash for the balance plus the tip. I want to start this review by saying our server, an older gentleman, was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive. This review has nothing to do with him. My wonderful girlfriend and I decided to make our first visit to this restaurant tonight, 12/27. We were seated by the bar and we witnessed a couple questionable things. First, a shorter haired brunette bartender was presented a plate of two lobster tails and some sides from what I would imagine to be a food runner. We noticed this because my girlfriend said "those lobster tails look amazing". This bartender removed one of the lobster tails from the plate with her bare hands and set it behind the bar and then handed the plate off to a customer who was seated at the bar. She then ate the lobster tail behind the bar and then proceeded to make drinks WITHOUT washing her hands. Second, the same bartender removed the trashcan from behind the bar with her bare hands and went into the kitchen or back of house area. She appeared a few minutes later, dragging the trash can back to its spot behind the bar, with her bare hands. Then she immediately made a drink WITHOUT washing her hands. It's not the bare hands that gets me, it's the not washing her hands that disgusts me, especially since we had already drank drinks that she poured. Once again, this review is addressing the lack of cleanliness the bartender showed and not the service our server provided. As someone who used to be a bartender in the past, this is not an acceptable representation of how bartenders should act. read more

From the moment you enter, the restaurant is inviting. Acoustically, you can easily have a conversation. Our sever, Hanna, was attentive and patient with our questions about the menu and specials. The prices were inline with the exceptional fresh quality of food. Because of the prices, we opted to split an entree and enjoy a bottle of wine with our food. We went to Chesapeake's last week, and I was surprised that I hadn't reviewed it before now. We've eaten there several times, and the service and quality are always outstanding. Our server, Michael, was lovely. The crab bisque was excellent, as was the very large seafood appetizer sampler (we had to bring half of it home). I also love the fact that Chesapeake's has its own parking lot (a rarity downtown), so there was no need to park in a garage and walk to the restaurant. I highly recommend! read more

Today is our 16 Anniversary and we love Sea food because we are both from Florida. We heard good things about this place. It was our first time eating here. This restaurant is downtown Knoxville and a beautiful location. Now you walk in and you automatically feel like you're on the coast somewhere. That's a beautiful ambience. The hostess was friendly and hopeful I went to check on our table while we were waiting on the table. This awesome server came up and allowed my daughter to hold a lobster she was so excited I'm not sure what his name is but he went above and beyond in my opinion. However my biggest complaint is that even with a reservation they stuffed us in a corner by the bar and the bathrooms. When there was this huge beautiful restaurant we could have sat in. Our server tonight was outstanding knowledgeable of the menu super friendly sweet to my daughter really made a difference. The food was amazing. Now was also disappointed with my daughter's cheeseburger and Fry's. I know is just kid's meal but should my daughter have to eat over cooked and under seasoned cheeseburger with bland fries. Dinner for 4 this evening. The gumbo was excellent! The bisque, which is a menu favorite, did not disappoint. The ambience of this location recalls another type of intimate dining that is unusual in the 21st century. Our server, Jack, was outstanding in his welcoming attitude and attention to the table. Our guests explained a bad experience at the Parkside location and he offered a complimentary dessert to remedy our guests' disappoint. We were looking for a lighter meal, so we figured seafood would be the way to go. Our server Mary did a great job taking care of us all night. We got some calamari to start. The batter was super light and flaky. The flavor was awesome and they were cooked perfectly. We didn't want a big meal and were hoping for a smaller dish. My wife and I ate here after the game. I can say with no prejudice that my food was delicious. I had fried shrimp, scallops, fish, and a baked potato. The shrimp and scallops were cooked so perfectly that I only had two bites of the fish. Our waiter was quirky, and told us that at one point he had received "best server in Knoxville" and after the dinner- I have to agree with him. All in all, it was worth every cent. I love the feel of the downtown Chesapeake's. We go pretty often, but last night we had the BEST server. She was conscious of timing of food and how it came out. She (Ara) seemed very genuine in her care of her tables. I have never had a bad meal at this location. There is a good selection of options and not just seafood. Wine list is good for both by the glass and bottle. Their desserts are sinful. The only drawback of this location is the parking lot, it is way too small and extremely difficult to maneuver- people with huge trucks try to fit and take up half the driving spaces. read more

The top notch quality of food overtakes the interesting serviced we received while at Chesapeake's. When we walked in we saw a sign that said "Please be patient, we're short staffed this evening." That was no big deal for us but it was interesting seeing wait staff bussing their own tables. Our server for the night was "Ben, if it goes well. Marvin, if it doesn't." He was a quirky guy and just cut to the chase. He had an interested table side manner but was quite entertaining. When my sister ordered the grilled scallops he goes, "I personally like them cajun blackened I think that's the best way." Then just moved on. He also asked everyone at the table what they did for a living. Interesting. Later she also showed us someone's key lime pie in attempt to get us to order dessert. We didn't want dessert but he did recommend other places around Market Square and Gay St to find delectable sweets. Aside from the interesting service, the food was AMAZING. Between the crab cakes, scallops, haddock special, and swordfish special, we all left with a full stomach of some of the best seafood we've ever had for a landlocked state. The sides were also very good. Neva's Potatoes 12/10 recommend. Overall it's a great place for some great food. It may be a little on the pricy side, but it's what I would expect for great seafood given the mountainous location. The west Knoxville was a great location. They honored our seating request, and were very hospitable, our waitress was GREAT! We ended up leaving to the downtown location (25 min away) before ordering food because we wanted the seafood tower, or the hot platter both did not offer the tower, though its in the online menu. We got seated right away, atmosphere wasn't as nice as the first one, but still okay. They were also hospitable, Julia was a nice waitress. Hot Seafood platter: I was not impressed! I did expect a better variety. There was no fish, no crab, no lobster, no clams. To their defense, menu does tell you what it comes with. The food presentation sucked overall. The platter was jumbo grilled shrimps: delicious!! Small Stuffed mushrooms:decent. Baked oysters, you get 4 halves: good. (Their York oysters were amazing! I ordered those on the side as raw oysters were not included in the platter). Fried Calamari: average. I would say 45% of the tray was fried calamari, I ordered a seafood platter for a reason, I wanted to taste a little bit of everything or at least a good variety. We ordered a lobster tail on the side, it was good. My husband ordered the filet mignon with shrimps, Once again the shrimps were delish, his steak was absolutely amazing!! It was tender, perfectly cooked and it tasted fresh!! No hot sauce, or steak sauce needed. It was perfect!! Our daughter got mussels, clams, oysters. The mussels and clams had a strong fishy taste, but I would attribute that to the fact they were fresh. Overall I had a pleasant experience. Did they blow me away, . Would I try them again, . Maybe in Gatlinburg or for the steak. Was it worth the few hundreds we spent between both restaurants? Absolutely not. I rather go to red lobster. However, you should experience it on your own. A friend and I went here before a concert and sat at the bar. We ordered drinks, Oysters and crab bisque. The food was absolutely amazing. Some of the best crab bisque I have ever had. The service was not so great. My friend asked if the water was from a tap, which was poured from a pitcher and although he admitted that it was, he acted very cold and nonchalant the rest of time there. We were going to order a main but his attitude really put us off. Would I go there again? Quite possibly, as I said the food was delicious. Would I ever sit at the bar for drinks and appetizers, definitely not. If the servers are as off-putting as the bartender then I will never go back. My suggestion is, if you want to be perceived as a "High End" seafood restaurant, then make sure the water you serve doesn't taste like it comes straight from the Tennessee river. read more

The restaurant is a decent size and I would describe it as casual dinning. We were seated towards the back in a corner. The service was great. The waiter was very engaging, and accommodating. The food: we decided to try the hot appetizer platter that includes grilled shrimp, 2 types of baked oysters, calamari, crab stuffed mushroom, with butter and marinara sauce. This appetizer cost $50 and we were told it would be more than enough food for 2 people. We added the fried okra from the special menu just to give them a try. Our food came out in record time.
