Love this spot, but apparently There's other bbq portuguese spots nearby that are also very good. My understanding is there was a lot of switching of owners and so forth. either way paulo's has been a staple in the area, although I feel it's getting more expensive- it's still solid and a good place to take someone on a date to read more

This was a first time take-out order at this restaurant that I've past on many occasions but never thought about patronizing ( for no particular reason). Upon my arrival the parking lot was packed; a packed lot is usually a good sign that the food is pretty good; and that theory proved to be accurate. I ordered my food and took a seat on the bench. The dining area was pretty full, the service was fast and friendly as customer s came in & out to pick up their orders. I couldn't wait to get home to try the food from my newly found Portuguese Churrascaria. Once home I had to take a taste before even getting a plate. The rice was so fresh & the chicken and black beans were both tasty and well seasoned. The amount of food was plentiful, it was more than this individual could handle at a single sitting, but that's cool, it just means more for tomorrow. I will definitely go back with hopes of trying something else from their menu and dining in. read more

Amazing food, warm and friendly staff, extremely clean and beautifully served food. The croquettes and the shrimp appetizers were a favorite. Drinks were so fresh tasting and not overly sweet. Try the sangria and the caipirinha. Everything we tasted was exceptional from appetizers to each meat served and the desserts are not to be missed! The main restaurant area is a great place to have a special dinner, we saw several large parties having celebratory dinners. The bar area offers more casual dining and tvs to watch sports. They also have a great banquet area upstairs for events. They also have a takeout area if you are interested and in picking up food. read more

Finished a half pitcher serving of sangria which was watered down, asked for one more glass (didn't want to drink that much more) and he brought me an empty glass. What would I do with an empty glass when there was no drink left on the table?? Ordered clams casino, waiter asked if we wanted cilantro, we said sure. They ended bringing a completely different dish, clams in garlic sauce w cilantro. Asked again for clams casino, they apologized and then made the correct dish. I will say the clams casino were money. Lastly ordered a mixed grill plate. Food was pretty good but asked for a side of garlic sauce (twice) and never got it. Waiter acted like he heard me but either forgot or didn't understand my request. For good authentic food I'm willing to deal w a little difficulty ordering but this was crazy. I ordered beef ribs with rice and fries. The food is pretty decent and the price isn't too crazy, in line with other Portuguese restaurants. The rice was a little too dry than I'm used to but the fries were pretty good and ribs were pretty good too. Overall it's different than most Portuguese restaurants I generally go to like Burnett bbq in Union or even Backyard bbq not far from them. I think you should try for yourself and see. It wouldn't be on the top of my list for Portuguese food buy not bad either. read more

I was here for takeout only and did not dine in. If I go back for a sit down dinner I will update my review. The food was great. Portions were huge. The garlic shrimp appetizer had a great flavor. Get some bread for dunking in the sauce. The menu is huge and has many choices to satisfy anyone. I called in my order. It was prepared quickly and ready for pickup when I got there. Name is a little misleading, Actually a Portugese Restaurant. Grilled shrimp appetizer was tasty and large portion. Salmon dish was fresh and also large portion. Rest of party had a chicken dish and a steak, service was top notch. Outdoor seating in front of restaurant. Probably one of the best places to eat in South Plainfield. read more

my wife and I have been dining here since 2003 and since the experience today vow never to return. we had 2 half chicken with small salads and no rice nor fries. when we received the bill we noticed we were billed for the salads which we had NEVER in the past. I called the 'manager' over to discuss. his response was very underwhelming and spoke to us, his patrons, as though this was our 1st time at a restaurant. Ordered food 4:45. Pick up said 5:39. App said it was ready at 5:19. Head out, fiancé runs in. 6pm I get a text from my fiancé asking what we ordered because our food is nowhere to be found. Apparently it was sent for delivery when I clearly asked for pick up. No clue where they were delivering it to as I didn't give an address. Haven't gotten my food yet, really don't care how good it is - 1 star on service and service alone. I will never be back. It's 6:15pm and I'm still in the parking lot waiting for our "delivery" to come back to the restaurant. Apparently the new owner is inside screaming at a girl who is working behind the take out counter. Your employees are a reflection of you. If she's messing up back there either she wasn't trained well enough or you're understaffed. Almost 2 hours since I ordered dinner. Literally insane. read more

This place has been here many years and it's had its good and its bad times. Keeping good help was tough especially as Covid hit. Last year the owner of 20 plus years sold. If i could give this place -10 stars, i would. This place was packed on a stayrday night. This was my first time here. It was no parking so me and my bf parked a few blocks over. When we arrived, no one greeted us. So many servers walked right passed us. Another family came and left and we should of did that too. So after 10 min someome came and seated us. Right after a party of 12 was seated then a party of 6. Now here is where things really started to go down hill. It took a very long time to get a server, meanwhile the other two parties next to us where serviced. When we finally got a server, we ordered a ginger ale, pina colada, and a chicken and rib combo. 15 min passed and still no drinks, meanwhile other parties (large parties) got water. The pina colada arrived but not my giner ale. A older woman saw how mad my face was and explained it was a long wait. At this point i dis not care, i wanted to leave but my bf wanted to stay. Literally 20 min passed, no food! But yet the party of 12 got salad, calamari, and another appitizer. AND THEY SAT AFTER US! The table of 6 behind us got bread and we didnt. I was BEYOND PISSED AT THIS POINT. So my bf got the waiter and told them that we wanted to pay for the drinks (i didnt drink mine) and leave. The food came out the same time, i told them to pack it up and im leaving. This other waiter tried to convince me to stay and sit in another section for better service, but i explained to her how the service was horrible, the food and drinks took long, and others who have more people at their table and seated after us got food, water, bread, appetizers, while we got nothing. Being the only African American people in the place, i felt very uncomfortable. The lady was getting her Manager, but at this point My blood was boiling And i wanted To leave before Causing a very Bad scene. My bf paid (even though we should have not to) and we left, and headed to bohio bbq in Plainfield where the service was 1000% better, we were greates and seated immediatly, and got our food in 5min. The food had better be good because the service was disappointing. Our first waiter was inattentive and difficult to communicate with. At some point during the meal we had a new waiter who was much better. The food was a couple of dollars per dish higher than other similar type restaurants. The food was very good. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her paella. The starter dish of garlic shrimp and sliced sausage was also well received. Two of us had the rodizio and it was the typical fare meaning there was lots of it and it was good. Another friend had the pork chop platter and it was enormous. Came here with some work colleagues for a dinner. We ordered two dishes of the shrimp in garlic sauce and fried calamari. Both dishes were good, enjoyed by everyone at the table. I got the Churrasqino or platter#3 and it was delicious. The skirt steak (picanha) was awesome! Overall, the food was great and the service was pretty good. -1 for the team mates that got the rhodizio experience but couldn't bag any of the steak they couldn't finish after they turned more meat away. Food and service was excellent. You can cut the steak with a fork very tender. The chicken also fell off the bone. I have not been here in a while they have an extensive menu. The flavors and price a traditional take Brazilian BBQ joint with a pitchers of sangria where could you go wrong? Prices are great, service is fast and friendly. Unlike most take out spots we could not substitute the fries for a salad but they did give us a salad to share which was nice. Fries are a little soggy but I've never gone to a Brazilian BBQ and had crispy fries so I'm not mad. We had the flambé sausage as an appetizer it was a little salty for the Wife so I ate most of it. Having been to many Portuguese restaurants, I can say that this was the worst Rodizio I have ever gone to. To start, they didn't tell us it would take over 30 minutes to serve us. All the meat had sauce on it or a strong seasoning (usually Rodizio meat is just cooked with salt). The beef was tough, the ribs were crispy from being over cooked, the chicken and pork was extremely dry..... To be fair, the cook on the beef was right, but that sauce flavor just made it taste strange. The fries, salad, beans and rice were fine....but I wouldn't go back just for that! It took about 12 meats (3 chicken pieces, 3 sausages, pork, other meats) to get to the picanha! The service was also unfriendly. I wouldn't say rude, but definitely not attentive. read more

Ordered catering from here and was definitely not disappointed. We had the chicken and pork ribs, both of which were delicious. The chicken was so moist. The two trays each came with rice and fries. The portions are super generous. We had WAY more than enough food for our party, so everyone went home with leftovers. Price is very reasonable/affordable. Service was friendly. Service is exceptionally poor. Staff doesn't speak English. Owner is beyond rude. Took over an hour to be served. They forgot my salad. Shrimp overcooked and mushy. Lobster Tails are small and also overdone. The group I came had several wrong orders and the owner got nasty, when we pointed the mistakes out. Rodizio didn't come with everything listed on menu.
