George's Tastee is a well-known patty brand in Jamaica and their patties here are well worth a try!…read moreI was told this location recently changed ownership/management for a little over a year now. The patties are really fresh and there is a wide selection of flavors and spice levels! Also unique to this location is that you have the option to purchase the patties in bulk and frozen which is convenient to have a supply at home. There are also cooked food options available (curry goat, oxtail, jerk chicken), hardo bread and an array of drinks to purchase to pair with your food. The layout of this establishment is spacious and meant for takeout, but there is a small space in the corner to enjoy your meal if desired. The prices of the COOKED food here seem reasonable. To me, the prices of the PATTIES are unbelievably low. (For context: I am visiting from the States where a singular patty costs anywhere from $4 to $5USD). At the very least these prices should be considered reasonable and if not for the prices then the taste definitely warrants giving the patties a try.

On Saturday, I had a hankering for a beef patty. I had just come out of Shoppers Drug Mart and…read moreremembered George's Tastee in the same plaza. Perfect! This store is located a few doors down from Church's Chicken. The former is closest to McCowan Road. I backed into a parking spot closest to the store. I walked in. This place has hot foods. It had jerk chicken, curry, goat, and a lot more when I was there. I saw the oxtail, which is my favourite dish out of the bunch. I'll need to come back for it. I was here for patties. This place has cheap prices when it comes to frozen, boxed patties. I normally see a dozen frozen beef patties for $20 at my usual patty places. This place had them for $15.50. Such a great deal! You can get veggie, chicken, and beef patties. With beef, it comes in mild, regular spicy, and extra spicy. I got a box of regular spicy. I could smell the hot patties. I had to get one for the road. I got a regular spicy beef patty. I couldn't resist! The woman who was originally behind the hot foods helped me get my hot patty. I paid for my purchases with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked her and left with my purchases. You can get bread here, too. It has rolls on the weekend. I liked seeing desserts by the payment area. It was difficult for me to resist getting some. Next time, for sure. I was determined to get patties and I succeeded. I ate my beef patty as I drove off to run my next errand. It was so good. The spice level was nice. The patty was hot. The outside was flaky, but sturdy. I was a happy camper. I've had a few patties at home. Whether I heat them up in a toaster oven or microwave oven, they are yummy and bring great joy to me and my tummy. I'm glad that I finally visited this store. I have passed by it countless times. I'll be back for more patties and some oxtail. (97)

While I was super disappointed at first and almost walked out, I figured since I was already there, I'd finally give their chicken a shot. I ordered the #1 combo: two tenders, fries, sliced bread, Dave's sauce, pickles, and a drink. At roughly $25 to $27, the price felt pretty steep for a takeout tender combo. I know Drake is backed as an investor here, so maybe that plays into the pricing, but it definitely felt expensive. That said, the portions are solid. The tenders were large, super juicy, and well cooked. The Medium heat level was spot on for what I wanted and it gave a nice light kick without being overly spicy. Honestly, the fries were my absolute favorite part of the meal! They were crispy, super tasty, and perfectly seasoned. The Dave's sauce was good, though a pretty familiar flavor profile if you've had similar chicken joints. The pickles added a nice crunch. My only critique on the side is the bread... getting plain white bread slices feels like a missed opportunity. If they toasted it into Texas toast, it would take the meal to another level. The fountain drink size included in the combo felt surprisingly small, especially for a takeout order. The Leslieville location itself is fantastic. The exterior design really catches your eye from the street, and the inside is spacious with two levels. I especially loved the neighborhood-specific touches, like the custom "Leslieville" graffiti art on the wall... it gives the space a great local personality. Service was friendly. Is it a bit too pricey to become a regular spot? Yeah, probably. But the quality and juiciness of the chicken are definitely there. I'll be back down the road but only to finally get my hands on those cheese sticks (and maybe a milkshake next time!).

Tried this place on a whim, just had a craving for jerk chicken and didn't want to drive for it, this was the first thing that popped up, and I remember seeing this from driving by it "all the time" The first time I had this ordered to my place, the food's scent absolutely permeated once we got the items out of the bag, the flavors were even better. this food brought me back to my childhood and all of the summer bbq's growing up with friends from multiple islands. One time I came in here in person, to grab some food, and the service was top notch, but ordering in person had a bit more options which lead to me looking like an idiot ordering the same thing I did through skip. The hot sauce is absolutely perfect as well, please bottle this and sell it Seperately. There's next to no sitting area here, and with this tight plaza of 11 business' you would be best to grab the food and go. I have no photos, even though I say the phone eats first, once the smell hits my nose, it's game over. no photos, no witness'(lol) Absolutely one of my favorite spots now for food, slowly climbing into my personal top 10 in Toronto, please don't change anything with the food, everything is perfect.

Probably the fav part of the meal was the fries and the dipping sauce. Would have preferred if it was a bit of a crispier chicken, the lite mild was too mild for me, and the chicken was a bit dry and chewy. The tenders were each really small they gave had given us three pieces instead of two. The interior is spacious with a few seats available for 2-4 people. The ordering was easy and service was efficient.

Just a heads up though, if you order "mild" it is still definitely spicy, but in a good way. That said, the service was a big downside. When I went with friends, the place was not even busy, but it still took about 20 minutes for our food to come out (yes I counted because we were in a rush). We only ordered two tenders with no drink. For something that feels like fast food, that is pretty unreasonable. I also went specifically to try the mozzarella sticks, but we were told they had not even started making them and it would take another 40 minutes, which is kind of wild. Even when our food was ready, things moved really slowly. The cashier took SEVERAL minutes just labeling and staring at each box, even though we all ordered the same thing, and then another minute just to put everything into a paper bag. Maybe it was his first day? Another frustrating part was that the washrooms were locked, so we could not even use them while we were there, which was a mild inconvenience, but I think bathroom access in a spicy chicken shop is a bit crucial. On top of that, it is pretty expensive for what you get. Overall, the food is the only thing really saving this place. It tastes incredible, but because of the slow service, locked washrooms, and high prices, I probably would not go back.
