Yesterday was my first time going to Dave's Hot Chicken- I've heard raving reviews about this spot from my friends and coworkers, and I was super excited to give their food a try. Dave's Hot Chicken reminds me a lot of Knockout Chicken, except the prices are a little cheaper. There are several different spice preferences, ranging from no spice to reaper- being the hottest one. I got a hot slider, while my girlfriend got medium spice tenders. The fries are amazing, so much better than your basic mcdonald's fries. The spicy mayo sauce that comes with it goes great with the fries and pickle slices. I'm not usually a fan of pickles, but they were surprisingly really good. The burger was very good. Although I found it a little weird that they didn't have any cheese, tomato, or lettuce in the burger, it did include slaw (mixture of cabbage and onion) and a little bit of sauce on the buns. I think I liked it better without the regular burger condiments; it really brings out the taste in the chicken. The chicken itself was so good- juicy, tender, and more than enough seasoning and spice to coat everything. The sauce went along amazing with the chicken. The hot slider was a little more spicy than I thought it would be, but still tasted good nonetheless. 10/10 burger spot! After seeing it many times on social media, at long last I finally had the chance to give Dave's Hot Chicken a try. I ordered on Uber Eats and got two tenders and a poutine. It was a huge amount of food and almost enough for two meals. For the tenders I got one Medium and one Reaper. I was really excited to challenge the Reaper but unfortunately I think they got my order wrong as neither of my tenders were especially spicy. They both tasted the same, and was about a low to medium level of spice. I hope they didn't accidentally give my Reaper tender to another unsuspecting customer! Haha. Despite the mistake the chicken was fresh, juicy and delicious. The addition of the sliced bread was nice and I made a little sandwich out of the chicken and pickles. I do feel like it was missing some more vegetables so maybe next time I'll try the sliders which comes with slaw. The poutine was delicious and the added chicken bits were a nice touch. I didn't read the menu closely so I didn't realize that instead of cheese curds it was kind of a Cheez Whiz-y type sauce but nonetheless it was still delicious. I do wish they included a bit more gravy with it though, it came with just a small amount in a condiment container. For $7 I also think they could have filled the box up with the fries a bit more. Is the chicken worth the hype? Maybe. I certainly wouldn't line up for it like people were doing when it first came to Canada, but nonetheless it's definitely worth a try! read more

We went to Dave's Hot Chicken for lunch. Dave's Hot Chicken is a new chain restaurant from L.A. The menu is pretty simple with only three different combos. The decor was pretty simple and disappointing. For a new restaurant, I thought that the decor will be better. I didn't like the music playing since it was very loud. We ate inside the restaurant since it was cooler. They had an outside patio, but it was kind of hot outside. The service was kind of slow. One customer complained that he got his food much later after other people. We both ordered Combo #3 which was a slider and a tender with fries. I ordered medium while my brother ordered a mild. Wish they had more locations outside of the city but it was sooo good. We picked it up for take out because we had already eaten at a reservation near here so we ate it at home that evening. We get the Hot and Reaper tenders and it comes with 2 tenders, a pickle and a slice of bread with creamy chipotle sauce. The reaper spice SNEAKED UP ON YOU and was definitely the hottest sandwich ive had. The Hot level was still pretty hot but definitely more manageable. Had some good flavour and crunch! read more

My recent experience with Dave's Hot Chicken left me frustrated and disappointed. The inconveniences began with the rejection of cash as payment, a decision that seemed inconvenient and inflexible. When attempting to place an order over the phone, the insistence on using the app for pickup added another layer of difficulty. It's disheartening when employees appear unaware of the potential consequences of these corporate decisions, especially in light of the push towards automation. Perhaps once they are out of the job, they will be up in arms, by then it'll be too late. Furthermore the refusal to accept cash tips, which many consider a more personal and immediate form of appreciation, added to the frustration. Don't they know you don't gotta wait for cash tips to be dolled out. Attempting to order through the app became a test of patience as it timed out multiple times. This not only wasted my time but also highlighted a flaw in their ordering system. It felt like a series of unnecessary hurdles, leaving me questioning whether Dave's Hot Chicken values the customer experience. Feeling both hungry and fed up, I turned to BBQ Chicken (416-322-9990) a Korean fried chicken place just down Yonge street. Their willingness to accept my order over the phone, offer helpful recommendations, and accept cash payment was a stark contrast to my experience with Dave's. The positive interaction with BBQ Chicken only magnified the shortcomings of Dave's Hot Chicken. Ultimately, I find it hard to support a business that dictates payment methods and creates barriers for its employees and it's customers. It seems to prioritize impersonal and automated transactions over genuine customer service. In light of these experiences, I've chosen to boycott Dave's Hot Chicken, as I believe in supporting businesses that prioritize the needs and preferences of their patrons rather than those of automated systems. If more people were aware and boycotted, the policy would change. It's when good people will stand by and do nothing that evil is implemented. Their chicken isn't THAT good and their portions are weak sauce. Do the right thing for your future and go to BBQ chicken. read more

I've been waiting to try Dave's Hot Chicken and excited that they're now in the neighbourhood. I'm not usually one who goes for hot and spicy food, but I was looking for something with a nice kick that's bearable for me. I wanted to try it all, so I ordered the combo with one slider and one tender on bread with a side of mac and cheese. Because I cannot take a lot of heat, I was debating whether to go for light mild, or mild. I ended up going with mild for both the slider and tender. When I got my order, I was surprised at the size of the "slider", it wasn't a slider to me at all! It's the size of an actual burger! Which is great, because next time I can definitely order less! The mild flavour was actually perfect for me! It was flavourful and wasn't a whole lot of heat. If anything, next time I can up the heat a notch too! The combo comes with a side of fries. The fries were delicious! There's seasoning on it and was distributed really evenly, it definitely made the fries addicting! I will definitely go back (and downsize my order next time)! read more

I'm so late but better late than never The chicken was sooo crispy and juicy without being too oily but I didn't like that it comes with bread in every combo :/ Not to mention, the fries...OH MY GOODNESS....SOOOOOO CRISPY. Let me just get the bad out of the way first. We showed up just a few days after this location opened and the staff was still learning on the job. There were almost 10 people inside at 11:30 on a Tuesday and they were pretty much all running around like headless chickens, and the ineffectual manager didn't seem to be doing much to get things back on track. (As an example, when we finally did get our food, it took another five minutes for our fountain drink. The machine needed to be turned on with a key, it seems.) I was, as a result, ready to give this joint a single star. But then I got home and dug into my food, and I was pretty much like, "okay, all is forgiven, Dave's Hot Chicken. All is forgiven." I ordered Combo #3, which is 1 Tender & 1 Slider W/Fries. For spice, I opted for "Hot" for the Tender and "Reaper" for the Slider, with the latter prompting my server to ask if I was sure and I was also given a paper to sign that basically said I was willingly taking my life into my own hands. It was pretty silly. Anyway, the food is absolutely worth all those problems and issues. The chicken is cooked perfectly and has retained its juiciness, and the seasoning is so flavorful and delicious. In terms of spice level, I found the Reaper pretty much perfect. It's super hot without sacrificing the taste of the food. The crinkle-cut fries, which are covered in that aforementioned seasoning, are delicious, too, as is the included Dave's Sauce. I have been to Dave's multiple times, and in general the food is great and the service is meh to terrible. I live only 2 blocks away and prefer to take my food home because the music in the restaurant can be overbearingly loud. Unfortunately the type of boxes used for take out lack structural integrity and so you need a bag to hold everything together which leads us to today's experience. My husband and I decided to stop in for lunch on a Sunday at noon and the location was nearly empty. I ordered and decided that I would tip 10% as 18% percent for a take out "fast food" meal seems excessive. The two boxes were not completed at the same time, so one sat cooling on the counter while we waited for the other. The boxes were then set in front of me and when I asked for a bag, the server indicated that I should place my boxes in the bag myself. Again there was nobody else there. The staff were far from rushed off their feet. So what exactly am I tipping for? I can manage, but I was clear that the order was take out... so a bag should be presumed especially when I had more that one box to manage. As expected the food when we got home (5 minute walk) was stone cold. It is still tasty, but I have had it hot at home in the past, so it wasn't that I was slow getting home. The food is great, though on the expensive side for a fast food, communal table meal. However, the fact that you MUST tip before you get your service means that it feels like your food is dependent on the tip given. When Burger King and your local pub serve Nashville Hot Chicken on the menu, you know it's a thing. For the record, I LOVE Nashville hot chicken from the first time I tried it at Hattie Bs in Nashville. I waited 3 hours to for it, and I'd do it again. Went to their Las Vegas location, and it too was outstanding. So when Dave's opened up, I believed the hype and lined up to try it. While the location is clean, the staff friendly and the food quality good, it's not authentic. You won't hate it, but at the end of the day, it's an above average chicken finger. read more

We added the Mac and cheese side as well as one reaper tender to try. The rest of the order was just hot level spicy. This is a pretty decent amount of food to split with another person. Love Dave's! Their chicken is well seasoned, crispy and juicy and I love their crinkle fries and dipping sauce. Their sliders and chicken tenders are equally good, just depends if you're more of a sandwich lover or chicken tendie lover. The food isn't greasy and travels well when I've gotten it delivered. I always enjoy the added touch of the pickle slices included with the combo. There are some tables inside and outside and they sell beer too. I was charged twice for my order last Sunday and was told that they could not process refunds at that location. I was asked to send 'head office' a request to have the money credited to my account on Monday. Sent messages through their website on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Crickets. Call the store on Wednesday and was promised it would be refunded. Got a call from the Parkdale store today offering a refund if I would travel across the city to their store. It is 'the only way' they can fix their mistake. Incredibly ridiculous policy and practices in today's business world. Be careful when paying. I was as mildly disappointed in the quality of chicken and the fries were far too salty to enjoy, but by far the biggest disappointment was walking in and waiting 5-6 mins beneath the 'pickup' sign before giving up and walking over to the server. Even when the server wasn't serving anyone else she didn't make any attempt to check if I needed any help - eventually I got my food and of course it was cold at this point.
