After seeing it many times on social media, at long last I finally had the chance to give Dave's Hot Chicken a try. I ordered on Uber Eats and got two tenders and a poutine. It was a huge amount of food and almost enough for two meals. For the tenders I got one Medium and one Reaper. I was really excited to challenge the Reaper but unfortunately I think they got my order wrong as neither of my tenders were especially spicy. They both tasted the same, and was about a low to medium level of spice. I hope they didn't accidentally give my Reaper tender to another unsuspecting customer! Haha. Despite the mistake the chicken was fresh, juicy and delicious. The addition of the sliced bread was nice and I made a little sandwich out of the chicken and pickles. I do feel like it was missing some more vegetables so maybe next time I'll try the sliders which comes with slaw. The poutine was delicious and the added chicken bits were a nice touch. I didn't read the menu closely so I didn't realize that instead of cheese curds it was kind of a Cheez Whiz-y type sauce but nonetheless it was still delicious. I do wish they included a bit more gravy with it though, it came with just a small amount in a condiment container. For $7 I also think they could have filled the box up with the fries a bit more. Is the chicken worth the hype? Maybe. I certainly wouldn't line up for it like people were doing when it first came to Canada, but nonetheless it's definitely worth a try! read more

We went to Dave's Hot Chicken for lunch. Dave's Hot Chicken is a new chain restaurant from L.A. The menu is pretty simple with only three different combos. The decor was pretty simple and disappointing. For a new restaurant, I thought that the decor will be better. I didn't like the music playing since it was very loud. We ate inside the restaurant since it was cooler. They had an outside patio, but it was kind of hot outside. The service was kind of slow. One customer complained that he got his food much later after other people. We both ordered Combo #3 which was a slider and a tender with fries. I ordered medium while my brother ordered a mild. Hello my friends, my visit here at Dave's Hot Chicken was friendly, and quick service provided. The food offered at this location is good, however the pricing is a bit high for what we get. They are famous for their hot and spicy chicken/sauces. I found their food a bit lacking, especially the amount of fries provided in the box could be a bit more. All in all, if you've never tried Dave's it's a go, but it won't be a restaurant I frequent every week/month. read more

Wish they had more locations outside of the city but it was sooo good. We picked it up for take out because we had already eaten at a reservation near here so we ate it at home that evening. We get the Hot and Reaper tenders and it comes with 2 tenders, a pickle and a slice of bread with creamy chipotle sauce. The reaper spice SNEAKED UP ON YOU and was definitely the hottest sandwich ive had. The Hot level was still pretty hot but definitely more manageable. Had some good flavour and crunch! read more

My recent experience with Dave's Hot Chicken left me frustrated and disappointed. The inconveniences began with the rejection of cash as payment, a decision that seemed inconvenient and inflexible. When attempting to place an order over the phone, the insistence on using the app for pickup added another layer of difficulty. It's disheartening when employees appear unaware of the potential consequences of these corporate decisions, especially in light of the push towards automation. Perhaps once they are out of the job, they will be up in arms, by then it'll be too late. Furthermore the refusal to accept cash tips, which many consider a more personal and immediate form of appreciation, added to the frustration. Don't they know you don't gotta wait for cash tips to be dolled out. Attempting to order through the app became a test of patience as it timed out multiple times. This not only wasted my time but also highlighted a flaw in their ordering system. It felt like a series of unnecessary hurdles, leaving me questioning whether Dave's Hot Chicken values the customer experience. Feeling both hungry and fed up, I turned to BBQ Chicken (416-322-9990) a Korean fried chicken place just down Yonge street. Their willingness to accept my order over the phone, offer helpful recommendations, and accept cash payment was a stark contrast to my experience with Dave's. The positive interaction with BBQ Chicken only magnified the shortcomings of Dave's Hot Chicken. Ultimately, I find it hard to support a business that dictates payment methods and creates barriers for its employees and it's customers. It seems to prioritize impersonal and automated transactions over genuine customer service. In light of these experiences, I've chosen to boycott Dave's Hot Chicken, as I believe in supporting businesses that prioritize the needs and preferences of their patrons rather than those of automated systems. If more people were aware and boycotted, the policy would change. It's when good people will stand by and do nothing that evil is implemented. Their chicken isn't THAT good and their portions are weak sauce. Do the right thing for your future and go to BBQ chicken. read more

I've been waiting to try Dave's Hot Chicken and excited that they're now in the neighbourhood. I'm not usually one who goes for hot and spicy food, but I was looking for something with a nice kick that's bearable for me. I wanted to try it all, so I ordered the combo with one slider and one tender on bread with a side of mac and cheese. Because I cannot take a lot of heat, I was debating whether to go for light mild, or mild. I ended up going with mild for both the slider and tender. When I got my order, I was surprised at the size of the "slider", it wasn't a slider to me at all! It's the size of an actual burger! Which is great, because next time I can definitely order less! The mild flavour was actually perfect for me! It was flavourful and wasn't a whole lot of heat. If anything, next time I can up the heat a notch too! The combo comes with a side of fries. The fries were delicious! There's seasoning on it and was distributed really evenly, it definitely made the fries addicting! I will definitely go back (and downsize my order next time)! read more

FINALLY!!!!! I'm so late but better late than never The chicken was sooo crispy and juicy without being too oily but I didn't like that it comes with bread in every combo :/ Not to mention, the fries...OH MY GOODNESS....SOOOOOO CRISPY. Idk how they did it, but I liked that you can choose the spice level. I initially got medium but didn't feel the heat. So obviously, I got another tender with Mac and cheese but hot instead. Wow, this was incredibly tasty fried chicken. I'm not an expert on fried chicken in Toronto, but I got this for delivery, and I was blown away by how good it was. The chicken is very crispy and a bit spicy, and it comes with some very crispy fries and a sauce. I really liked how the pieces of chicken come on white bread, it's a nice touch. read more

Let me just get the bad out of the way first. We showed up just a few days after this location opened and the staff was still learning on the job. There were almost 10 people inside at 11:30 on a Tuesday and they were pretty much all running around like headless chickens, and the ineffectual manager didn't seem to be doing much to get things back on track. (As an example, when we finally did get our food, it took another five minutes for our fountain drink. The machine needed to be turned on with a key, it seems.) I was, as a result, ready to give this joint a single star. But then I got home and dug into my food, and I was pretty much like, "okay, all is forgiven, Dave's Hot Chicken. All is forgiven." I ordered Combo #3, which is 1 Tender & 1 Slider W/Fries. For spice, I opted for "Hot" for the Tender and "Reaper" for the Slider, with the latter prompting my server to ask if I was sure and I was also given a paper to sign that basically said I was willingly taking my life into my own hands. It was pretty silly. Anyway, the food is absolutely worth all those problems and issues. The chicken is cooked perfectly and has retained its juiciness, and the seasoning is so flavorful and delicious. In terms of spice level, I found the Reaper pretty much perfect. It's super hot without sacrificing the taste of the food. The crinkle-cut fries, which are covered in that aforementioned seasoning, are delicious, too, as is the included Dave's Sauce. I'm definitely happy to have this place in the neighborhood, and I assume it'll be a much more pleasant experience once the staff is properly trained and situated. read more

I have been to Dave's multiple times, and in general the food is great and the service is meh to terrible. I live only 2 blocks away and prefer to take my food home because the music in the restaurant can be overbearingly loud. Unfortunately the type of boxes used for take out lack structural integrity and so you need a bag to hold everything together which leads us to today's experience. My husband and I decided to stop in for lunch on a Sunday at noon and the location was nearly empty. I ordered and decided that I would tip 10% as 18% percent for a take out "fast food" meal seems excessive. The two boxes were not completed at the same time, so one sat cooling on the counter while we waited for the other. The boxes were then set in front of me and when I asked for a bag, the server indicated that I should place my boxes in the bag myself. Again there was nobody else there. The staff were far from rushed off their feet. So what exactly am I tipping for? I can manage, but I was clear that the order was take out... so a bag should be presumed especially when I had more that one box to manage. As expected the food when we got home (5 minute walk) was stone cold. It is still tasty, but I have had it hot at home in the past, so it wasn't that I was slow getting home. The food is great, though on the expensive side for a fast food, communal table meal. However, the fact that you MUST tip before you get your service means that it feels like your food is dependent on the tip given. Because the don't take cash, you can't tip after receiving your order which is preferrable. read more

When Burger King and your local pub serve Nashville Hot Chicken on the menu, you know it's a thing. For the record, I LOVE Nashville hot chicken from the first time I tried it at Hattie Bs in Nashville. I waited 3 hours to for it, and I'd do it again. Went to their Las Vegas location, and it too was outstanding. So when Dave's opened up, I believed the hype and lined up to try it. While the location is clean, the staff friendly and the food quality good, it's not authentic. You won't hate it, but at the end of the day, it's an above average chicken finger. read more

This is a far cry from what I expected from this establishment that is said to be famous for their hot chicken. I ordered 2 combos and a poutine for pickup, however the order was missing my cheese fries, and the chicken while juicy lacked seasoning. The hot and xtra hot were closer to bland and mild. There's so much fried chicken in the city but this is still a stand out ! We ordered the combo number 2 which is two sliders fries and kale salad. We added the Mac and cheese side as well as one reaper tender to try. The rest of the order was just hot level spicy. This is a pretty decent amount of food to split with another person. Chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Good level of heat but I might try extra hot next time. Kale salad was quite nice and fries were tasty. The Mac and cheese was a little plain, you aren't missing anything if you skip this. The reaper tender was very spicy, only get this if you can handle a lot of spice ! The branding and packaging is on point and while branding is good at bringing customers in the first time, the food is what keeps them coming back. Let's just say that I won't be coming back. Despite the chicken being heavily seasoned, it was extremely bland. There wasn't much depth to the flavour. The sauce that came with the combo was also very bland. It was plain and creamy. Love Dave's! Their chicken is well seasoned, crispy and juicy and I love their crinkle fries and dipping sauce. Their sliders and chicken tenders are equally good, just depends if you're more of a sandwich lover or chicken tendie lover. The food isn't greasy and travels well when I've gotten it delivered. I always enjoy the added touch of the pickle slices included with the combo. There are some tables inside and outside and they sell beer too. Definitely worth trying if you want to level up your fried chicken game. read more

This is just basically very very expensive KFC!!!! I ordered the mild two piece chicken strip found it very salty (BCE Place). $22 for two pieces of chicken and may be 10 fries, I also got two slices of bread which randomly sat under the chicken and a sauce. It's not worth it IMO. read more

I was charged twice for my order last Sunday and was told that they could not process refunds at that location. I was asked to send 'head office' a request to have the money credited to my account on Monday. Sent messages through their website on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Crickets. Call the store on Wednesday and was promised it would be refunded. Got a call from the Parkdale store today offering a refund if I would travel across the city to their store. It is 'the only way' they can fix their mistake. Incredibly ridiculous policy and practices in today's business world. Be careful when paying. I was as mildly disappointed in the quality of chicken and the fries were far too salty to enjoy, but by far the biggest disappointment was walking in and waiting 5-6 mins beneath the 'pickup' sign before giving up and walking over to the server. Even when the server wasn't serving anyone else she didn't make any attempt to check if I needed any help - eventually I got my food and of course it was cold at this point. Dave's Hot Chicken was created by best friends Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan. Dave, a chef trained in Thomas Keller's (French Laundry) organization set out to create the perfect Hot Chicken by searching, tasting, and frying. The four friends scrounged up $900 to put a tiny stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. The menu was simple, and chicken was the star. And what chicken it is! Sourced and prepared to be the juiciest and most tender imaginable with each piece topped with Dave's own mix of spices ranging from "Mild" to "The Reaper". Arman created Instagram buzz and the lines began to grow. Two nights later, Eater/LA showed up to see what the fuss was about. The next morning's headline read "East Hollywood's Late Night Chicken Stand Might Blow Your Mind". Almost instantly, the lines stretched around the block. A year later, the boys had the money to open a shop in a hip strip-mall with de_cor by local street artists, where the crowds continued to grow with wait-times of an hour and more. From there, the incredibly craveable "Hot and Spicy" varieties have created a cult following with rave reviews across the U.S. and Canada.

Established in 2017.

In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept -- take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw -- they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long. After 6 months of running the pop-up with long lines, the team took the plunge and opened their first physical store in January 2018 in a sleepy strip center in East Hollywood. I kid you not, the bread here is the most softest, fresh bread which also does not get soggy with all the toppings/sauces that get put on it. And then all the toppings that get added are super fresh. I will always go back for the Chef's Choice sub which comes with: Grilled Chicken Strips, Avocado, Tomato, Hot Pepper, Fresh Onion, Olives, Crispy Onion, Pesto Sauce & Grandma's Homemade Hot Sauce. When Ariete E Toro first opened last year, I recall seeing the long lines as it became super popular. Fast forward to a year later, I finally tried Ariete E Toro recently. The storefront is on a side street off of Yonge St. where it is take out only. They do have a bench near the window/entrance of the store but usually it's utilized by people waiting for their sandwiches. In the summer though, they have a small patio in front of the shop with some tables and chairs. Menu wise, Ariete E Toro has a variety of sandwiches with ingredients that work well together. You are also able to build your own sandwich if you'd like. They also have beverages like soda and water as well. The store boasts that all their ingredients are high quality. An average price of a sandwich is around $17. I decided to pre-order 2 sandwiches for pick up. These are the two sandwiches I got: - Enzo (mortadella di bologna, pistachio pesto, stracciatella cheese, chopped pistachio, lemon and basil oil). - Rogo Rogo (prosciutto cotto, 'nduja cream, smoked provolone, caramelized onion, arugula, and brown butter vinaigrette) Entering the store to pick up my order, staff were amidst completing my sandwiches. There was already a regular there chatting with staff. Service was quick. My sandwiches were packed and I had half of each at home. The size of the sandwich was pretty big! I could only finish 3/4th of the sandwich. Both the Enzo and the Rogo Rogo were tasty but the Enzo stole the show. The moist bread with the mortadella where the pistachio pesto and hint of stracciatella cheese along with a slight crunch from the chopped pistachio made for a perfect sandwich (I do prefer the bread a bit harder and crunchier though but the texture of this one was still good). I was sharing the sandwiches with my partner and as he opened the packaging he noticed a piece of hair in the sandwich. I would have given a higher rating on Yelp but finding someone else's hair in your food is off-putting. I do hope that if I return next time (either to this location or to their new location near Ossington/Dundas) that we won't find any surprises in our food. Overall, delicious sandwiches in Midtown Toronto, however, we did find a piece of hair in our sandwiches which.... kind of makes me hesitant to return. **Update** - I wrote a review on Google where the owner personally asked me to email them to rectify the situation with the piece of hair found in my sandwich. The owner apologized and stated that he was actually the one who personally made my sandwich that day (sliced the deli meat, etc.). He also made sure that he would speak with the bread manufacturer to make sure that they were aware of the situation as it may have come from the bread as well. He also gave me a refund for one sandwich as well as a $25 credit for if I wanted to give the sandwich spot another chance (the sandwich is too good to not go back!). That is what I call great customer service - making sure that an apology was given and that customers are happy. Would happily return again for their tasty sandwiches!!

Starting with a base of roasted eggplant, slivers of quickly smoked pepper and raw celery & onion are mixed in, so the dip is creamy and crunchy. As a babaganoush lover, I thoroughly enjoyed this version! Without tahini the dip is lighter and brighter. Still their bababanoush ($9) is good with large chunks of eggplant and tons of tahini turning it creamy. It's just a touch sweet for me. For the carb conscious, the dips arrive without a pita ($1.50), so you won't be tempted. I wanted one with the eggplant and pepper... it's your regular run-of-the-mill thick pocketed pita. It's remarkable how much they can stuff in a pita. You'll need to unhinge your jaw to bite into lamb kefta in a pita ($18), the ground meat kebab juicy and each bite bringing different flavours. The bites with their zesty and slightly spicy amba sauce are my favourite and despite the abundance of onion, they're well soaked so the acidity is removed and a crunchy sweetness remains. Their sandwiches arrive solo but is enough to satisfy. The price for a side of French fries ($11) is a bit steep but it's a huge portion, enough to share amongst three. The beef shish kabob ($30) was a tad chewy but at least cooked well and perfectly seasoned and not overly salty. I recommend upgrading to their Greek salad ($4 supplement), a village style version containing large chunks of juicy ripe tomato, crunchy cucumber, briny creamy feta, and onions. Limon augments the salad with roasted red paper and capers adding a savoury smoky element that's delicious. If you're in the mood for beef, order the strip steak ($34) instead. It's less grizzly and you get a sizeable portion of meat cooked to your liking. With three pieces of fish arriving in the roasted rainbow trout ($30), this is a shareable main. It's well cooked with crispy skin and tender meat and simply topped with onions and pomegranate seeds. Having visited on three occasions, the sole visit the restaurant wasn't full was during a weekday lunch. And when it gets busy the ordering and paying process slows down as Limon creates a bottleneck by flowing both operations into one person, who I assume is the manager. Despite a number of workers, they seem to focus on serving, refilling water, and cleaning up. If you ask one to take an order or pay, the request gets redirected to the manager. What an odd way to slow down table turnover at a restaurant. Warning: the tightly packed tables create a loud ambient noise at the restaurant. It's a bit much at first, but as the meal progresses, I tuned it out. When the weather's nice and they open the front windows, it almost feels like you're sitting al fresco somewhere a bit more exotic than Midtown Toronto. A beautiful meal indeed.

In the end I thought the portions and quality were good. The service was also super nice, and it was impressive to see our waitress cover so many tables. The restrooms were also clean.

Their history in the 20th century was that they started in Berlin, Germany in 1919, but they were a Jewish family who ended up immgrating to Israel in 1933, opening their store there, and expanded locations throughout Israel. Their history in Toronto & North America (including some in the US) is much more recent since opening in 2017. Unfortunately, my closest is New York City; none in Maryland or DC area. This location is in busy downtown Toronto. We sat outside on their big patio area as the weather was warm and could enjoy the view of the buildings, people, cars, etc. Server was friendly answering our questions. I ended up getting an egg benedict with salmon in a croissant. It was creative and delicious take on egg benedict. The only issue was it was messy to eat in the croissant, but I didn't care as it was so delicious. My girlfriend got a Belgian waffle with blueberries, whipped cream, etc. It was unique and very good & sweet too as I tried a bite.
