My visit was on a cold Thursday evening. I was attending an event around the Parkdale area and had less than an hour to grab a bite to eat. I saw a large bright sign and a few people dining inside, so I decided to check it out! As soon as I entered, a young man at the cashier greeted me. Then he asked if I have ever been to the place before. I replied that this was my first time, and he thoroughly went over the entire menu, explaining the types of meals available and the spice levels. I took his suggestion and ordered a chicken burger combo and chose spice level as spicy (instead of hotter level). When the combo was ready, it was delivered to me by the same young man. That was a cool surprise! The combo included a chicken burger, fries, with slices of pickles and a side of spicy creamy sauce. The chicken pieces in the sandwich were coated with light batter and fried- the batter was spicy as I expected, but much hotter than I thought! The chicken pieces were large, juicy, and non-greasy, the best kind of chicken pieces that I want to eat! The fries were lightly crispy and non-greasy- between bites, I ate some pieces of pickles (they were sour and had nice crunch to them). The piece I received had very little bread-coating on it which was outside of my expectation. I don't know if I had a terribly made batch or if this is how it is here. So here's the deal when you eat their food you can instantly tell it's a franchise quality you can't compare it to a place like Chen Chen. The chicken was quite good: moist & tender & pretty tasty, though it was a bit too salty (I have a high salt tolerance). Mild was really quite mild though it was a slow burn that intensified a bit. Caught an Uber here right before my flight back home to LA . I was curious to try one of the Toronto locations as I am one of the original patrons of Dave's (from the days when they were a parking lot operation) . They've come along way baby !! I'm so happy for their success ! After checking this franchise location out I can honestly say it did not disappoint!! It was hands down honestly better than many of Los Angeles locations . The staff members were super attentive and friendly and Tiana was especially nice ! My Fries and tenders ( on my two sliders ) were cooked to perfection ! I highly recommend checking this place out. The menu here is simple - they have chicken tenders, sliders, fries, mac and cheese, slaw. As this was my first time here, I decided to get both the slider and the chicken tender because I wanted to have more variety. They have several different options for heat, and I got the hot and I am so glad that I did. It was a nice kick, and it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. I really liked how crispy their chicken tenders are. The pickles and slice of bread that came with the chicken tender were a nice touch. I liked the slider a bit more, because it was basically a chicken tender between buns joined with a crunchy, creamy slaw. It all worked together to create a symphony of flavor. Service here was also very good. It was quick and efficient, and the restaurant was very clean. The staff uniforms also had a fun saying on the back - get rich or die frying. All in all, while this is a little bit more pricey than the usual fried Chicken joint, it is worth the price. I can't say for sure that I won't be dreaming about this chicken. read more

Just learned about Dave's Hot Chicken (and their connection to Drake) yesterday and was super excited to try them, especially with the Reaper sauce as Carolina Reaper is my favourite hot pepper. I love how their disclaimer says it can cause "emotional distress, or even death." Lol It arrived super quickly through Doordash...my first impression was that I liked the packaging (love the logo) and nice to see the checkmark next to "Reaper." Upon first bite my impression was "excellent"! Really like the texture and it had a legit level of heat. I wouldn't say that it is "waiver sauce" level though. Carolina Reaper is about 1,500,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) and I would say this was about half that (based on comparable sauces). It felt at least as hot, if not more so, as Five Points (now closed down). For someone who routinely does waiver challenges or that type of thing, this should be no problem but "civilians" who find suicide sauces at wing places to be too hot should probably stay away from this sauce. I should also point out that the "sliders" are bigger than I thought...basically their chicken fingers between buns with coleslaw. As such, I think I would order one slider and the cheese fries next time. I did like the plain crinkle fries so adding cheese could only make them better. We finally got a chance to try this place out after hearing about all the hype. We tried last weekend but the lineup was super long and went all the way around the corner of the restaurant. Today as we arrived there was no lineup outside. Perfect timing !! We ordered the combo #1 (reaper), combo #2 (extra hot) and combo #3 (no spice). The chicken tasted so good. The reaper was super hottt !! Not for those with low spice tolerance. I think the extra hot is perfect for me giving the best compromise for spice while still being able to enjoy the food. Updated Review Since I had a meh experience the first time with Dave's Hot Chicken, I was invited back to try them again. This time there wasn't a massive uncoordinated lineup wrapping around the building which was nice Had the sliders combo, with 2 sliders, fries, kale slaw, pickles, and Dave's sauce. This time we wanted to see if the mild had a little kick to it (had medium and hot the first time). I had instant regrats as the mild had no kick at all, and wished I chose medium instead lol. This time the fries weren't soggy, and the chicken was actually hot and crispy (though the batter was a touch on the salty side). I love how they included packets of honey, cause the sweetness drizzled on the hot chicken was delicious! The second try definitely was better than the first, and definitely because they weren't just pre-making and serving items to keep up with the crowds. I think for the price, it's pretty much on par with other chicken sandwiches. It's a decent size. The chicken wasn't exactly juicy but it wasn't dry (thank goodness). I wish there were more fries in the box. They weren't all that impressive but maybe if they were freshly fried they would've tasted better. The tender came sitting on a slice of white bread. It kinda soaked up the sauce/grease. I wish I got the hot. Medium had zero effect. I didn't want to burn my face off so reaper was out of the question. I wasn't ready to sign my life away either. We got a combo #3 which is 1 tender, 1 slider, and fries. We added another tender. Drinks aren't included in the combos. Fries were okay. I definitely recommend eating it as soon as you get it because the colder the food is the less enjoyable it is. The spice level was enjoyable. We got the "hot" level and if you can tolerate spice it's a great choice. It's definitely a spot that has built up hype and the flavour was great. I really enjoyed the slider with cheese. The tender is served on a slice of white bread and slider on bun with coleslaw; so I would recommend you try the slider over the tender. The sauce was nice. Overall a good spot. I've been to Dave's Hot Chicken twice now. The first time, it was okay, but I think much of the experience reflected some opening jitters. The second time I went was great. The chicken was fresh and all of the sides were fantastic. Staff were vigilant about enforcing COVID-19 safety protocols, and service was still fast despite this. Just a warning, Dave's Hot Chicken is waaaay hotter than you would assume. Mild is spicy. Medium is very spicy. Hot is more spicy than anything I've ever had. Enjoy with caution. 5/5 read more

The waiver is a bit of a hype for those who are of fans of Asian spicy food, this is just a different kind of kick but probably not a challenge to those who love Sichuan hot pot or those who can handle the highest heat level at Pai. Food was juicy and tender, it came in a toss able box, 2 pc tenders with thick fries in a Cajun seasoning, pickle slices, and looks to be 2 pc of bread to bed the chicken tenders. The fries were stale (tasted like they were just trying to get rid of their old fries), mac and cheese was dry (I just tasted pasta), order was wrong (I ordered 2 extra Hot and was given an extra hot and no spice). Guys, this is the spot. I knew nothing about Dave's when it opened, except that it was a little out of the way and I don't often eat fried chicken. All that being said, tell me something's spicy and it's in my stomach before you finish your sentence. Dave's fried chicken ranges from 'No Spice' to 'Reaper', which I learned is a combination of the four spiciest peppers on earth (sort of, the interview I watched with the owners was a few years ago and the hottest pepper they were using was the Carolina Reaper). Dave's makes great chicken. Big, juicy, delicious tenders with all the crunch and none of the grease. You can tell they mean business the minute you lay eyes on the reaper. Devil red dusting which smells like fire. It's not even that slow a burn. It ramps up 10 seconds after it hits your mouth. Within a minute you know what you're in for. Creamy, hot, sweet amazing potato bun and great depth of flavor. I'm so glad they had free delivery or I think I would've missed out on this gem. The Mac and cheese was ok (maybe a sprinkle of that hot seasoning would've done the trick in terms of flavor). Be wary of going beyond Medium heat.
