    Corporate lunch order.

My boss is crazy about this place. I think they're meh. I find that their chicken is a bit dry. Their veggies are always overcooked. Their rice is nothing fancy, same as their potato and fries. I'd take Nando's over them any day. I do enjoy their peri-peri sauce though. My food just swims in that every time I have their food... since I find everything else meh. Since my boss just loves the place, we order from them at least every other month... It's always the same, bland experience.

My review is based on take-out from Churrasco. I've been here a couple of times for take-out and thankfully there wasn't any long line. There is a huge menu board up behind the cash and one can see that this place offers a variety of chicken meals, seafood, a nice selection of sides, desserts and more. The staff is kind and efficient and the prices are reasonable. My half chicken with two sides came to something around $11-$12 and was handed over to me within 5 minutes after ordering it. The chicken is cooked rotisserie style over a large charcoal oven and smells so good! The chicken is cooked beautifully- juicy, tender and the skin is crispy. The pri-pri sauce was very spicy and tasted excellent with the meat. Also, the side of rice of potatoes were really good too. The rice was plenty, flavourful and topped off with a few black and green olives. The roast potatoes had their crispy skin on them and marinated in a delicious spicy oil sauce. The potions are generous and satisfying. The only downfall about this place is that the food is placed in a black styrofoam box. I'm not a big fan of hot food placed in styrofoam- yuck. Also, they're a bit stingy with the pri-pri sauce. However, this won't stop me from coming back because the food is good. If you're looking for some yummy Portuguese style chicken, I would definitely recommend Churrasco!

1/4 white and Pork rib platter with roasted veggies to go at Churrasco Villa
    Jon S.

Ummm ... how do I even start? I had a craving for Portuguese chicken and I stumbled across Churrasco Villa on Yelp. I decided to get a combo platter of 1/4 white and ribs with a side of grilled vegetables just so I could get a taste of everything. Well ... you know what? I sat in my hotel room and I ATE IT ALL!!! It was so good, I just could not help myself. The food was amazing even after a 25 minute drive back to my hotel. Other yelpers have felt that the white meat chicken was dry, but I did not think so. The spices on the outside were perfect. The ribs were sticky and tender and among the best I have had. The grilled vegetables - while a little heavy on the peppers - had nice variety and were well grilled. I will be honest and tell you that I have had better piri piri sauce elsewhere, but it was certainly acceptable and the deliciousness of the rest of the food easily overcame this small detail. Be aware that there is no parking available at this location. Although I have only eaten here once, I have to believe that the pork ribs / 1/4 chicken combo platter is the best way to go - you will not be disappointed.

The food was amazing! I ordered half a chicken, rice and potatoes. Everything had such great flavor and portions were big, I wasn't able to even finish the meal. They did have Pepsi products which is a plus for me, the first restaurant we visited all weekend that offered it. They have a mild and a hot sauce, I loved both but I preferred the hot. Halfway through my meal I ask if refills were free, normally I would just order without asking. And he said they are not. Wait what.... it's 2018, I paid $3 for a fountain drink and can't get a refill. I just felt that's bad customer service on the restaurants part. The waiter was super dry and just didn't seem very happy about being there. Before order we did call to get the food delivered and they told us it was a hour wait. And when we went in the restaurant was deal and my boyfriend ask if they were slow and they confirmed how slow inside and delivery was. Yet we were told it would take a hour so we walked there. Food great, staff, well could def use improvement.

I knew that I wouldn't have the energy to cook tonight. Lucky for me this place was on my walk home so I stopped for some takeout. Got a half chicken order, with mild sauce and fries. The chicken was tender and warm, enough for two sittings. Felt like I stopped at a friend's BBQ. You're allowed two sides (e.g. Veggies, baked potatoes, etc) but I wasn't happy with the choices so doubled up on the fries. They are really more 'frites' than fries btw (small handcut fries in true European fashion. Yum.) I also ordered two natas (custard pastry). It was also good, but but expensive and not the best I've had. I thought the meal was satisfactory, short of the fries being a bit cold and the dessert not super fresh (but not stale). I'm sure that if I hadn't lived in little Portugal and enjoyed these meals in a more authentic way, I would lend an extra star to the meal lol. For now, it's good enough and good to go! And a great 'fast food' alternative, ESP if you can skip the fries unlike yours truly ;) I RECOMMEND- the sauce. Don't pass up the sauce. It's the whole point. African spices incorporated into Portuguese cuisine. Can't go wrong. EXTRA TIP- I'd take to go. The chicken is cooked on site which is great for your taste buds but not for your clothes/hair. I.e. whole place is kind of smoky/ full of aromas.

It's good. Good Chicken. That's all that matters right Ordered double leg and thigh with salad and fries. The chicken was pretty good. Cooked just right and the charcoal adds a nice flavour. I actually didn't enjoy the peri peri sauce that much. Wasn't that spicy and too much vinegar. I've definitely had much better sauce at other places Fries were meh But good meal overall. I'd come back just won't be craving that much

The potatoes were bland, as if they were boiled rather than roasted. Or perhaps this was just a lazy attempt at slapping an order together because it was via Uber Eats? As always, their peri peri sauce is among the best in the city and saved the meal. Either way, lots of better options in the city these days.

There were four of us and ordered the sangria to share between three of us which was a lot but refreshing. Apps were Lucas Freitas (fried calamari) and Chourico a Bombeiro (flaming sausage). Both were delicious. I forgot to mention the bread and Piri Piri Sauce which came in the form of a large bottle. These were complimentary and it's nice to see a restaurant continue this tradition. There used to be a very crusty artisan bread that was served but over the years that has disappeared and it's a white bread now. Three of us had chicken/chicken breast and one had veal. Even the small portion was very generous. The salad was underwhelming but a pretty presentation. The server got a couple of orders wrong and seemed very distracted. The piece de resistance was the "Portuguese Tarts" which made a wonderful finale to a good Al fresco dining experience.

Return visits while in Toronto (2 of 3)…read more I came back to Perla and its appeal, at least to me, is very much still there. You are greeted upon walking in to this family run Portuguese restaurant. This time, I tried a bitoque, a steak with an egg on top. It would be on the list of 10 typical entrees you'd find in a Portuguese restaurant. It was preceded by a salad, for which I selected the Caesar salad option. I followed it up with a dessert which was a goblet with a frothy type of gelatin, pudding, or mousse. The flavor was either passion fruit or guava. I forgot what it was immediately upon leaving because I devoured it so quickly! The frothiness made it lighter, such that it wouldn't weigh you down. By now, you should be able to tell this was a very good meal. A few things round out the experience. The bread was accompanied by a pate' or dip of sorts. It was excellent. I didn't know what it was, therefore I asked. It had tuna as well as a good number of other ingredients. Together, it did not taste very fishy or potent in any way, except incredibly flavorful. Their cuisine is representative of all of Portugal, although Perla's roots are in Northern Portugal. The painted ceramic rooster for good luck one often sees hails from Barcelos, just slightly north of the Porto area. In fact, the fueling and rest areas on the toll road through Barcelos have these modern metallic renditions of the rooster that are minimalistic silhouettes you look right through. I might add a few other things that made me glad I returned to Perla. For one, Lusophones are well represented among the customers. But, more importantly, they fill an important niche for me since so many Portuguese locales miss this mark. They are essentially a reliable mid-range restaurant with a broad enough menu. Here, you can avoid the end points that I don't much care for or seek - the piri piri (or peri peri) chicken places where you accompany your order with a pastel de nata that the "hey, wow man" types (at least on the Plateau in Montreal) tend to frequent and the high-end restaurants where Portuguese leans haute cuisine, a lot is about presentation, and the portions are small. (In Montreal, one such place should immediately come to mind.) I was happy that I stopped by, using the TTC card with which you can avoid the crazy Toronto traffic and parking hassles. The College Street streetcar practically stops in front of Perla's door. It all adds up. The team running this restaurant puts their hearts into their work. I am going to go with 5 stars, with each one representing a letter in the word P-E-R-L-A.

Staff were friendly off the bat and very attentive after each dish was finished, making sure to wipe off the table or exchanging the plates which I was really impressed with despite how busy they were. We decided to go with their tasting menu where you gave them a price range you wanted to stick to - I believe it was $85-$200, and you can mention some dishes you definitely want to try and they curate the rest for you which I thought was so unique! I loved the idea of that. The dishes we really wanted were the octopus, bone marrow and scallops. The only standout dishes to me were the scallops, and a salad I cannot remember the name of but was so shocked at how good just a simple salad could be. Other than that, the other dishes were still good, but nothing extraordinary to be honest. The octopus was a bit too charred which was disappointing as it was what I was looking forward to the most. The tasting menu we got also had mainly vegetable dishes (other than the ones I just mentioned), so was hoping to get a few more meat dishes. This is definitely a great spot for vegetarians as it had a lot of veggie dishes. I would still come back to maybe try some of their other more meat focused dishes. The food was okay and perhaps suffered from staffing issues but when you're paying 100 per plate I would like a better dining experience. The best thing we had was dessert but we waited almost an hour for this. One almost fell asleep waiting. The atmosphere clearly suffered from the tables around us.
