I've lived in Toronto my entire life and didn't know this was here. I found it on a search and it had very good reviews (4.6/5). This is a hidden gem, and the five of us agree it deserves an even better score! The restaurant is very nicely laid out, quite formal, with a great atmosphere - each table set far enough away from the others that you feel you have your own place. In addition, the staff and service was top-notch - very attentive yet not invasive or overbearing. Very professional and courteous. And the food is exceptional! The five of us ordered the soup special and oysters special for appetizers, and then had Piri Piri Chicken, Grilled Squid, Brazed Beef Ravioli, Salmon, and Lobster Ravioli (special) for mains, with sorbets, Pastel de Nata, and Chocolate Mousse Cake for desserts. The food presentation was amazing, and we all commented on each item as it was brought out. But then the flavours, we didn't expect - SO GOOD! Every bite was amazing, with good-sized portions the were just right! We all left well-fed and very happy with everything. We will all be back to this spot. Often. With wine, we each spent just over $100 - and it was worth every bite! We left nothing on our plates! Go here. It's awesome! read more

My first time in a Portuguese Restaurant. Came here for Winterlicious. I ordered all seafood from appetizers (grilled sardines) and main (grilled squid). Taste good and it's filling. I feel full until the following day. Intimate place. Good for romantic dates. Staff very friendly. Will Love to come back. read more

Really tasty food on the saltier side. Got the prix-fixe menu which came with an appetizer and main: - Salted Cod Quenelles: Really creamy interior, nice crispy exterior. Would have liked a bit of a stronger cod taste, but this was good. - Pan Roasted Herb Crusted Salmon: Good heft to the salmon, not overly crusted, strong herb flavour, perfect pan roast. Side veggies complemented the main well. Service is helpful and attentive. Kitchen is efficient. Prices are what prices are these days. Place is well spaced and tastefully decorated. A good dining option, especially if you love seafood. read more

Decent spot for Portuguese cuisine in a somewhat upscale ambiance. Menu selection includes various grilled seafood, cod, pasta, and risotto.

We had a really nice dining experience at Adega restaurant. From the moment we walked in to the minute we left the service was phenomenal. We were greeted immediately and our water was replenished and poured quickly as soon as we finished each glass. THE FOOD: Both of the entrees that we ordered came with mixed vegetables including carrots, potatoes, beets and kale. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic! * Grilled Squid The grilled squid was really good. I let was served with a lemon, coriander & garlic olive oil sauce that they made gluten and dairy free. The squid was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! * Pan-Roasted Herb Crusted Salmon The salmon was delicious! It was served with a scrumptious pineapple compote that made the dish unique and one I'll have to order again. * Bread Basket We were surprised we were charged for the bread basket. I'm gluten intolerant and could not eat it but my fiancé asked for bread and we were charged for the entire basket. We thought it was complementary. When another table asked for bread the waiter told them it was extra but they didn't mention this to us. Allover the food was really tasty and the ambiance was really nice. We really enjoyed our meal and am looking forward to going back. read more

Nice place, service was excellent. It was nice to try some Portuguese wines - the white I had was excellent, and sampled a couple of ports that were very tasty! The fresh bread & chorizo appies were delicious, and though there was good flavour on the risotto, it was a touch underdone. Nice place for a date night. read more

July 12 2025-private hall upstairs was reserved for 30 ppl Air Conditioning: Upon arriving upstairs, the space felt quite warm, and it appeared the air conditioning was not functioning effectively. While I understand the venue may have just opened and the system might have needed time to adjust, the temperature remained uncomfortable throughout the evening. We opened the patio doors in hopes of improving ventilation, but unfortunately, the indoor and outdoor temperatures were about the same. The heat impacted the experience for guests--my cake fondant, for example, began melting within an hour. Service Flow and Timing: Service throughout the evening was slow, with significant gaps between courses. Hors d'oeuvres, which I had expected to be served with cocktails, were instead placed on the table and not circulated I know this may have been due to late arrival of guests, but i did expect them to be served with cocktails. As a result, we didn't get to sample the full variety. Portion Sizes and Consistency: Some dishes were inconsistently portioned. For instance, I received three small pieces of whitefish and two asparagus stalks, while others had larger or more complete servings. A few guests didn't receive any asparagus at all. Additionally, the food portions that were served family style , were insufficient. Had to share for example 3 buns among eight adults. When I had dinned there in the past, the three buns were shared between two people. Beverages and Overall Experience: Because of the heat and slower food service, more alcohol was consumed--accounting for over 50% of the total cost. Perhaps that was their intent. Many guests (myself included) left feeling hungry. I chose to host my birthday amd retirement at this restaurant because I have dined there in the past twice and really enjoyed the service and food. I was sadly disappointed and so were my guests at this restaurant this time. I would not recommend hosting a party there. Despite my concern shared with the manager, I did not get a response from him. I will no longer be eating at this restaurant sadly. read more

Fantastic food AND service. Our new favorite restaurant! Everything was perfection. Owner onsite and welcoming

Service, Food, Ambience. Everything was great! Right as we walked in, the servers were super friendly and approachable. They recommended the daily fish dish and we got that along with a mushroom risotto. We loved both dishes and afterwards we got a passion fruit tart for dessert. It was amazing as it was the right amount of sweet and sourness. I would love to come again! read more

I no longer have actual words for how happy I am when I dine at Adega. From the second I walk in the front door, I am greeted with both conviviality and professionalism. You all make me feel so special as a guest in your home. The food...it's not even worth going on about how exquisite it is. But, why I'm writing is because of service. I LOVE YOU FERNANDO and Chef with all your sous chefs. Thank you for making ANY food special with your care and consideration for my happiness. THE BEST!! read more

Mmmm I love it when Summerlicious comes around! My friends and I came here to try Adega - not realizing how fancy and intimate of a place it is, a couple of my friends wore t-shirts and felt very underdressed and out of place. The service is good, but I found it slightly pushy - we were asked on multiple occasions whether we'd like wine, sparkling water, etc. Each table has unlimited bread and olives as appetizers to share. The bread I found a bit dry, while the olives were overly salty. That said, it's a good way to fill up if you're starving! I ordered the grilled sardines as an app (the waiter said it's a must-order if you love fish), grilled squid as a main, and three flavours of sorbet as dessert. The grilled sardines were pretty good - it was a large plate with 3-4 fillets. The sardines are grilled and then dressed with a citrusy tomato sauce, and served with some sweet pineapple chunks as well. It's a good dish, but not really my preference. The grilled squid is fairly small as a main. There are two squid bodies that are grilled in olive oil, and presented alongside small carrot cubes, a small potato, and some withered pea shoots. It's a light meal, but quite good. The sorbets were served in a small bowl, but with an awfully large spoon! They really should invest in smaller non-soup spoons. The flavours were mango, berry, and some sort of guava mixture. Overall, the meal was good, but I've had better Summerlicious options at a lower price. Adega is good, but some other ones definitely rank higher on my list! read more

I came here for an event, where we could order from a pre-set menu. We were in the lower level around a large table surrounded by bottles of wine and what looked like a prison cell. Service was great and the food was good as well. For an appetizer, I ordered a caesar salad. For the entree, I ordered a salmon dish. We also each received a trio of mini desserts. The caesar salad was great. I enjoyed the thin slices of cheese and the long, thin crouton on top. I appreciated that the dressing was light. I thought the salmon dish was too salty. The excess salt kind of ruined an otherwise perfectly cooked salmon. The desserts were excellent. I enjoyed the pecan pie and the creme brulee. I love pecan pie, but I don't normally enjoy creme brulee, so I guess that says a lot. Overall, an excellent place for dinner with friends and family. read more

Tasty food! Adega Restaurante is dimly lit with a fair amount of wood and a wine cellar that can host larger groups for dinner. In addition, they have a small amount of outdoor seating where we were fortunate enough to obtain. I ordered the marinated olives with bread as a starter and the braised short rib ravioli for an entree. The bread was served warm and featured both a classic French baguette and a Portuguese cornbread. The bread was as good as expected and the marinated olives were scrumptious. The ravioli was excellent featuring lovely presentation and a skilled combination of flavors. Overall, I would recommend Adega Restaurante for a nice dinner. read more

I was here for summerlicious with a bunch of coworkers months ago and had a great experience. So when I was part of the committee to plan our work winter social - Adega was at the top of the list. It was walking distance from our office, had great food and service. And - the most important criteria - had a room that could seat 50-60 people! Our staff party was held upstairs in a their private room and bar. The space had sound equipment, a private washroom, and coat rack. In the summer - there's a balcony too. From scouting the location to booking; confirming reservations and the day-of event - everything went without a hitch. Manny and his staff were very helpful, and their assistance throughout was appreciated. We had 3-course pre-fixe and each person had their choice of appetizer and mains. All the meals were prepared at time of order - so the food came out pipping hot and fresh! But that also means there was a bit of a wait for each course to be served, but we were warned ahead of time about this - so we planned team activities throughout to keep people entertained/busy. We did decorate the space with more festive items - nothing was allowed to stick to the walls, but we had table decorations that worked. Overall, everyone enjoyed the event - which is a tough feat to please 50+ people! So if you're looking for a venue for a company party, I'd recommend Adega. read more

Lovely atmosphere and wonderful staff. I celebrated my birthday there and the good was fabulous along with the service. Highly recommend.

Winterlicious Review - Don't bother with the Winterlicious lunch menu, not worth the money or time. My friend and I were excited to try Adega and figured we'd stop by for Winterlicious. Worst decision ever. SERVICE I arrived early and was seated relatively quickly but I had to wait for my friend. The waiter kept coming by to the table and asked if my friend arrived. I told him she will be here in 15 minutes (ie: the actual time of the booking) and that we'd need some time before ordering. My friend sat down, barely had a sip of water or even time to look at the menu and the waiter was looming over our shoulders trying to see what we would like to order. No walkthrough of the menu or recommendations when I asked what he would suggest off the Winterlicious menu. FOOD I've never been so upset to want to send food back to the kitchen. Sloppy presentation and bland food. I even mentioned it to the waiter. We were both starving and upset after the lunch. We got: Seafood Bisque with Dungeness Crab Aioli [flavourless, watery, lukewarm] Beef Carpaccio with Spicy St. Jorge Cheese [the best dish we had] Linguine with Tiger Shrimp in a Chipotle Pepper Tomato Sauce [4-5 pieces of shrimp, slightly undercooked linguine - didn't finish the dish] Mushroom Risotto with Porcini-Truffle Butter & Parmesan (vegetarian) [smelled great but tasted like mushy porridge, and I felt like they added water cause it was not silky or creamy. Flavourless and sloppy presentation - didn't finish the dish] Trio of Seasonal Tarts [couldn't care less about the dessert, dry tarts so it was really difficult to chew] Mixed Sorbet (vegetarian) I really hope this was just an one off experience because I've heard nothing but wonderful comments about this restaurant. If you are planning on doing a horrible job or can't source good ingredients to work for the Winterlicious pricing, don't bother participating in because it's just going to tarnish your brand. read more

I have been to Adega many times with my coworkers for lunch. The food never disappoints. The seafood is extremely fresh and every dish I have had so far was delicious. The grilled calamary is amazing. For the main I especially like their saffron seafood risotto. It has different types of fish, as well as calamari, shrimp, mussles, and a subtle hint of saffron which gives the dish a beautiful aroma and color. The service has always been great as well. I will be back again for sure! (Hint: their complimentary olives are sooo good! So is their complimentary bread!) read more

Tremendous food - a take on Portuguese with a focus on seafood - couldn't decide between the octopus and seafood stew (got the octopus - was great, fellow diner got the stew, also great). Server was very helpful with advice, input, although seemed just a little bit over booked (was a Monday night). Nice cocktail and wine selection, with creative options. Very good port selection for after dinner as well. Small intimate space and getting a table along the walls enhances that. read more

I came here with my mom for winterlicious 2019. I was lucky enough to get street parking right in front of the restaurant around lunch time. Parking is $5 an hour so budget for that. The resto looks like a converted old home and the offering is Portuguese cuisine. It is a white table cloth eatery and at the time when we went the tables were 50% full. The clientele looked like Bay Street/financial districters and retirees. You get olives, bread and olive oil on the table pre your meal. The servers were professional and quite nice. One thing I will say however is that the portions are quite small. But not to the point where you leave dissatisfied. We got the lobster bisque and beef carpaccio to start. Both were very good, however the beef carpaccio was 4 extremely thin pieces of beef. For main we got the piri piri carpon and shrimp linguine. Both I highly recommend, even though the portions where small they were well plated. Lastly was dessert... I'm not going to lie my mom laughed when she returned from the washroom and saw our finishers. I had a Creme caramel which was just a strip of dessert. Literally just a strip. And she got an egg white puffed situation? Again, great presentation and my dessert did pack a punch but we were not impressed with hers. I paid $70 (including tip) for both of our 3 course meals. This is why I love the "licious" menus. Otherwise I wouldn't have eaten here! read more

I am not really a big meat eater and when I saw Adega Restaurant's menu online promising Portuguese Style Seafood and Prix Fixe every evening, I am IN! Making the reservations online was easy using Opentable and a table for 2 was secured with no problem. Prix Fixe Menu ($33.95) - Seasonal Baby Greens Salad - Pan-seared Atlantic Salmon - White Chocolate Creme Carmel They were all OK, but didn't wow me.... I sweet talked my Yelp Drinking Buddy to order something else off the menu instead of going with the Prix Fixe and that ended up to be the best choice of the dinner. Grilled Whole Fist ($30) - My Yelp Drinking Buddy to this day still talks about how good the fish is! - Lightly seasoned and grilled till the skin was crispy and the fish is still moist and tender.. - I witnessed that evening how one can eat a fish until every single part that can be eaten was consumed... even the fish eyes!!!! Adega is a great restaurant to come for dinner if you are into seafood, as you won't be disappointed. But skip the Prix Fixe and go for the real deal!! read more

Finally got to visit Adega after hearing about this place for the past few years. We vsited Adega on February 1 at 12:30PM for the lunch service during Winterlicious. Unfortunately, it was a TERRIBLE experience from the start to finish. Once we got in, we were greeted by the host asking if we would like to check the jackets. We gladly did and waited to get a tag for our jackets. However, we didn't get one and was told that they don't do the tag system. What if somebody took the wrong jackets? (More on this later) Confused, we were seated to our table. Understandably, it was during lunch rush hour and during Winterlicious, but we waited a good 5 mins to be greeted by the waiter and another 5 mins to order our dishes even though we were actively looking for them. For Starter, we got the Seafood Bisque and Beef Carpaccio. The seafood bisque was bland and has almost no flavor to it. It isn't rich nor salty. I don't know, maybe it was just that day but seafood bisque was a disappointment. The Beef Carpaccio is actually decent tasting! It is far from the greatest looking plate of beef and arugula, but is actually tasty. For the Entree, we got Linguine with what's supposed to be Tiger Shrimps, and Mushroom Risotto. The Shrimp Linguine was a disaster. It seems like a plate of mess that was tossed together and clearly no effort was put into the pasta. The shrimps were those chemical soaked crunchy shrimp you get from the cheap Chinese stir fry, definitely not the so-called tiger shrimps. The spaghetti is sad looking to say the least. The mushroom risotto is actually good, I enjoyed it. However, no effort in plating was shown. Like, at least put some chive or parsley on top. The desserts we went with Creme caramel and meringue pudding. The Creme Carmel is a sad looking small side slice of Creme brûlée, while others have a much generous cut of the Creme brûlée, we only got a small slice and was thoroughly disappointed. Taste wise it is actually pretty good! The Meringue Pudding is also great! Airy and flavorful. After paying for the underwhelming meal, here's comes the issue for the cost checks. It was during busy lunch rush and our jackets were put into separate piles and seemly no organization. I can just take whatever I want and nobody cares. This is just scary and uncalled for. They can definitely do better. Overall a disappointing and lackluster experience. Would not go back again. read more

We had a lovely meal at Adega on March 8th, but we were charged twice. The credit card machine froze and they re-ran the charge for ~$450 a second time (despite my concern that we would be charged twice). We've called and spoken to the general manager, Marco, a few times to try and get a refund. He has apologized, says this has happened a few times recently, but he's unable to refund the duplicate transaction. He told us to wait a few weeks because it might get refunded, maybe. In the meantime, I am disputing the charge via our credit card company - but it's a huge hassle. I tried to resolve this by working with the restaurant but haven't been able to get my money back. I'm happy to remove this review once we get refunded. read more

Portugal, like certain Italian & Greek cities, are well-known for their seafood, so my expectations coming into Adega were relatively high. This was especially so as their prices are a good 15% higher than a comparable Italian restaurant. So, how did it go? 1) The hits: - Grilled sardines were good. The sardines were nicely charred, the grill marks on the skin were intact and the presentation was appealing. - The seafood risotto was flavourful. Very generous portion, with decent pieces of fish, prawns and squid. I thought it could do with a tad more stock, but overall, no issue with the dish. - The grilled octopus was well done - very tender, yet cooked through just right. If anything, it was a bit on the salty side, but again, no big issue here. 2) The misses: - We had 2 soups. Neither impressed. The prawn bisque was too thin to really be labeled a bisque, and it lacked salt. The daily soup, which was supposed to be yam and carrots, tasted like carrot juice, and was not properly strained, so there were strings of vegetables floating around. (To the restaurant's credit, they informed the chef & did not charge me for it). Overall, the food wasn't too shabby, but I found the prices a little too high to justify. Being located in the downtown core, you're pretty much paying a premium for the location. read more

Nice spot for date night, not too stuffy not trendy good service good food and not insanely loud like some restos can get when crowded. Reasonable prices for what you get I think our bill was about $100 per person for three courses plus glass of wine. We had pork belly/octopus app (very good but a bit of an odd combo). For mains we got the Cataplana and the seafood risotto. Both dishes were not lacking for seafood. They were very generous with the servings. Did not skimp as i noticed there were three big clams (not the baby clams you often get). Seafood risotto was good but not great. Waiter was helpful and explained the dishes as well as the wine. Dessert was also good mango crime brulee and chocolate mousse. Solid choice. read more

Adega Restaurante - Delicious ! - Portuguese Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

I haven't been to Adega in years but it is definitely one of my favourite seafood and Portuguese restaurants in Toronto! What I love most about this restaurant is that the staff are absolutely exceptional not to mention that the food is delicious. Everyone from the host to our wait stuff and especially Ryan our waiter tonight were so knowledgeable, hospitable and accommodating. I'm so thrilled that this place is thriving even after the last few years that restaurants have been struggling. If you haven't been here it is definitely a hidden gem but also a long-standing institution in Toronto with some of the most authentic and exceptional Portugese food. We enjoyed the delicious and plentiful platter and tonight's special app the avocado and tomato salad which were so robust with flavour! I myself have been looking forward to enjoying this cataplan fish stew as I have fond memories of coming here often and enjoying it especially on a cold rainy day like today. The seafood risotto looked beautiful as well! The cocktail menu and wine menu is reflective of old school European bistros with many great wines to select from. Lastly, check out this beautiful cloud of meringue enrobed in caramel! So heavenly! I will definitely have to come back again soon! Thank you again to the staff for this incredible experience! read more

Overall - 4 stars-ish Food only - 3 stars-ish If the above sounds indecisive, it is because I am not experience in Portuguese food. The overall high rating reflects my opinion on the combined offering of food, services, venue and quality. Our party of 4 came to Adega for a birthday celebration based on the recommendation of a fellow Yelper. I found the decor and ambiance casual-classy, intimate and welcoming. We shared an appetizer platter and a bottle of wine per the recommendation of our server. Great recommendations! The app platter was a crowd pleaser; we loved the variety. The wine was really good for the price (less than $50). Two of us ordered the octopus entrees, one ordered a cod entree while another ordered a fish stew entree. My grilled octopus tentacle was tender on the thicker end but quite tough on the thin end. I supposed the unevenness was hard to avoid given the big difference in radius of the tentacle. My friend said his cod fish fillet was fresh, juicy and cooked just right. The other said the fish stew was big portioned and delicious as well. At this point, I might remind that there was an appetizer platter, 4 seafood entrees, one bottle of wine, plus 2 desserts on the bill. We were expecting a hefty bill. Nope; the total came to $300 tax in. What a high value place. I literally checked the bill to confirm nothing was missed. Nada! With good moods and spare changes, we gladly tipped our server generously. Our little group haven't dined in downtown Toronto for a long time, because of costs and distance. We would travel to Vaughan or Etobicoke, but not downtown. This little delightful and relatively affordable restaurant has restored our interest, or may I say hope, to enjoy dinner gathering in downtown Toronto again. read more

The essence: A warm inviting atmosphere and interesting Portuguese cuisine options. The food: While the food was pleasant, it wasn't special. The experience: The service was slightly glitchy all evening. The acoustics and seating somehow made it hard to hear my wife, but everything said at the neighboring table was clear as a bell. The summary verdict: I'd have no problem eating here with you if you wanted to give it a try, but I'd probably be a bit more excited to explore other options before coming back. read more

Came here yesterday to try the Prix Fixe menu, and it way surpassed me expectations. Portions were huge (we had to pack a lot of go, salmon steaks could have fed two), and food was excellent quality, with everything being perfectly cooked. Service was great, our server was attentive and helpful with great recommendations, and my water was always filled (which matters a lot to me because it's awkward to keep asking). He spoke with a charming accent and even offered us more bread when ours ran out (as I am a bread monster when the bread is good). There were olives (YUM) on the table as well, and olive oil for the bread. I had the squid (perfectly cooked and two big pieces, with beautifully seasoning, over a pineapple and ?cabbage? salad for brightness), the salmon (beautifully crusted and perfectly cooked to be meaty and not mealy, with a tangy complimentary pineapple compote, and perfectly season veggies below). The sorbet was very good, but a lot of sweet for one person to handle. We also got personal teas as part of the menu. Also at the table, was the ceasar salad, which had lots of prosciutto, the chicken and the seafood stew were all delicious as well! What really took the cake was the DARK CHOCOLATE MOUSE CAKE! ORDER THIS!!! It is not on the prix fixe menu, but it was delicious! I will definitely be coming back! read more

Thanks to my partner for bringing us here to celebrate my birthday a few weeks ago. We had a great time here. The service here was top notch - he was friendly and professional. Summerlicious Lunch 2016 Booked a day off to take a friend from out of town to this place for the Summerlicious lunch. Read many promising reviews and had been looking forward to it since last week, but was met with disappointment. Started off with some crispy crab cakes that was only jammed with mashed potatoes. It was nice, perhaps the tastiest out of everything on that menu. Only drawback was that there were absolutely no crab meat; only potatoes. Thinking the first dish was a hit-or-miss, maybe the main would be better? Nope! But let's start with the positives first. The waiters were very attentive and polite, so that earned a star. Mushroom risotto came out piping hot. Smell of mushrooms and herbs were aromatically mouth-watering. Expecting the first bite to be al dente; discovered under-cooked arborio rice instead. Could literally feel the uncooked grains lodged into my molars and had to rinse with water a couple of times to dislodge the hard centres. Would also like to add that the menu mentioned "truffle butter" but there was no truffle flavour at all. Ended up finishing all the mushrooms instead and left the rice--so wasteful. There were very few people at 11:50am, so quite sure why the quality of the food was sub-par. For dessert, the caramel flan is highly recommended for people with a sweet tooth. The fruit acidity of the strawberry (coulis?) complimented nicely with the creamy texture of the vanilla custard. Thought it worked really well on a white chocolate base. But alas found it was too sweet and only half was consumed. This restaurant had a lot of potential and was my first Portuguese restaurant in Toronto, so my expectations were similar to that from previous experience in the Azores. $23 + tax + tip was not too bad but probably won't come back. Feedback: Please please please ensure the risotto is thoroughly cooked through for future customers. read more

It was our first time to Adega and we loved it. The ambience and decor is nice. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. We had the grilled squid and crispy pork belly as an appetizer along with the Portuguese seafood stew and seafood risotto as our main courses. Not too sweet and the hint of lychee made it unique. The prices are very reasonable considering the food is delicious. We will definitely go back! read more
