Ordered pickup for dinner from this spot which I have been craving for quite a while. Got the jerk chicken bowl and oxtail bowl, both with Scotty Rice and all the toppings. The pickup experience was super smooth, as my order was just packed when I came in! The inside has some tables for dine in though I took it to go. The bowls were hefty and delicious. For the chicken, we got the half jerk half BBQ option, and I liked the jerk chicken which had a kick of spice. As it has been said, this spot is along Highway 7 so it might be a little more difficult during peak hours to get in and out.

Drove past this place many times and it always caught my eye because it looks so new/clean and brightly lit! Finally got around to trying it and it did not disappoint. The inside is very clean & spacious. I liked the colourful mural with neon lights. The menu isn't too big but that's a good thing for someone indecisive like me. It is displayed on screens behind the counter but the screens do change a little fast. Staff were friendly and since it wasn't busy when we went, it was very quick. The portions are generous and the value meals are well priced. The food is very flavourful though I wasn't a fan of the rice. The oxtail was decent but a little on the sweet side. My jerk chicken was soft. Not juicy but not dry as stated in other reviews. I would definitely give it another try. The parking situation isn't the best as there are only a handful of spots and it's directly on Hwy 7.

I want to really like this place. It's got a gorgeous dining environment and friendly staff. Ordered jerk chicken sandwich. The toppings and ingredients were excellent and flavourful but I admit I was slightly disappointed when you see their online photos it looks like a panini sandwich in a very large size but really it's a white hamburger bun and the sandwich is pressed flat on a panini grill. I'd rather have it on coco bread. Nothing fancy at all. Kind of like what you do when you're a kid. The jerk chicken was dry with no moisture. Spices were good. 3-stars is my vote. I'm going to give this place another try.

came here for lunch and got the jerk chicken bowl ($14.45). Overall, found it a great deal. The food was pretty good with a large selection of toppings and the portion sizes are huge! Probably enough for two people even. Enjoyed it and wouldn't mind coming back.

I'm always down to try new Caribbean food, and this place did not disappoint! It's a pretty small menu so you're not overwhelmed with options. What makes this different than typical takeout Caribbean shops is the bowl option. You pick your protein and rice, and then have many other toppings to add. I opted for no toppings because I wanted to focus on the curry goat and rice flavours. The curry was the perfect spice level, and the goat was nice and tender, but the rice was the true star of the show for me. I highly recommend getting both rice flavours (no extra cost) because they complement each other so well. The portion sizes are massive as well, perfect to carry over to a second meal or share with a friend! The decor and layout is so beautiful too, and there's some seating to enjoy your meal there after you order it at the counter. Parking is minimal and hard to access with the busy Hwy 7 right there, but Scotty Bons is worth the effort to get there!

Clean and bright location that opens late. Quite nice decor on the inside, but only a couple of tables means its mainly a takeout joint. Jerk Chicken Sandwich - Pretty cheap for a good sized sando. Your choice of toppings, 4 pieces of boneless chicken and then toasted on a panini grill. Boneless was a good choice on a sando, the bread was a bit lackluster and felt a bit dry. Ox tail roti - Pretty big portions, but a bit hard to eat a roti with proteins with bones. Luckily, its not wrapped =). Oxtail was pretty good, but felt a bit cold, maybe because it was near end of day.

First visit to Scotty Bons did not disappoint! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share amongst a group of 7, family style - sandwiches, jerk chicken wings, jerk chicken, BBQ chicken, coleslaw, and rice & beans. The sandwiches were juicy & so satisfying, but I have to say, the jerk chicken wings and thighs really stood out for me. Incredibly well seasoned, moist, and it paired so well with the coleslaw, rice & beans, and mango chutney. The only thing is that they can sell out by end of day, so you might want to order in a bit in advance for larger orders. The parking situation at this location also isn't the greatest, but I think it's still worth the visit (just avoid rush hour when Hwy 7 is jam packed).

2.5 STARS Noticed Scotty bons is finally open, after weeks of waiting. Got two orders to go; jerk chicken and bbq chicken. It came with a side of cabbage coleslaw, skinless chicken thigh jerk/bbq chicken, rice and peas and a bit of sautéed bell peppers. First bite of the jerk, super dry chicken thighs. I never knew you can over cook chicken thighs to that point, and where's the skin? The jerk marinade was light and a bit spicy at the end, could use bit more jerk seasoning for the chicken to absorb more flavour. Rice and peas were a tad bit mushy, but flavour was good, I can really taste the coconut milk. Best thing on the dish was the coleslaw; had the right amount of creaminess, sweetness and salt. . Same thing goes for the bbq chicken. It was sadly very dry. I'm pretty sure whoever is cooking in the back is not Jamaican, cause they would never overcook chicken (thighs) like this. I'm a little appalled actually. I think Scotty bons is not an authentic Caribbean joint for those seeking for flavour, punch and authenticity. I will not be back, even though it's super close to me, I'd rather drive out 15 more minutes to get the real deal.

I saw people posting about a BOGO via DoorDash so I took advantage of it as It was my first time having Scotty Bons. I got the jerk chicken bowl and even though I got mild, it had a nice kick to it. My chicken wasn't as dry as the other reviewers have mentioned but my rice was a tad mushy. Not sure if that was my fault though cause I did ask for a few of their sauces. Portion size is decent. I like the variety of options like the corn, cold slaw, etc making it very customizable. One bowl had 3 pieces of chicken while the other had only 2...not sure what's up with that lol

    Jason T.

Jerk chicken with rice! You could get it with rice or roti. good portion size. The chicken was boneless, a bit dry and needed some more sauce. Not too into there spices , don't got that jer feeling Sides are good and the spiciness has a good kick! They do have other options as well curry goat, jerk shrimp, oxtail etc Space pretty spacious. more of takeout. Staff are ok.

Really enjoyed the jerk chicken bowl and jerk chicken sandwich. The curry chicken bowl was also good but not as impressive as their jerk items. I ordered through ubereats so cannot comment on their service.

Next time I would probably do a little bit of everything for their toppings. I think more noodles could have been added for a large pho but I was full. The service was okay after that, not as attentive as they could've been and we had to ask for things a couple times but I understand as they were very packed. Everyone was still very kind regardless. We had the pork belly and boneless short ribs and they were good, nothing too special about it. Personally I think it was more on the expensive end for what it was. They were served with many sides and the cheesy corn was our personal favourite. Their other sides were also alright but again nothing too special. It was a very packed day so it was quite loud in the restaurant and we were almost yelling at each other from across the table, so if anyones looking for a more intimate spot, I'd go elsewhere. But again this is not their fault and is to be expected in larger popular places. It is a drinking spot too so that was the vibe they had with lots of chatter and fun bring had. Overall a decent spot for kbbq and I'd say go here more for the atmosphere more than just the food!

Tip: There's plenty of parking if you get here before noon when it opens…read more My friend, Keri, asked if I wanted to do lunch with her last Thursday at Shinta Japanese BBQ. I had never been here and said yes. She had booked a reservation for Thursday at noon. I was working from home and drove over here in roughly twenty minutes. I didn't get Keri's message that Shinta had called her while both of us were commuting. The eatery had cancelled her reservation due to a "kitchen incident." Vague. I witnessed folks going into the eatery at noon, so it was still open for business. It's why I've taken off a star. I get that incidents happen. It wasn't serious enough to shut down the eatery. Cancelling thirteen minutes before the reservation time wasn't the best, either. Take 2. Keri got us in on Civic Holiday at noon. We hoped that there wouldn't be any issues. The reservation was a go. We were both off for the day, which worked out perfectly. I got there and parked. I saw a huge truck in front of the doors. A male staffer came over to my car. He looked at me and paused. He told me in Cantonese to park a bit further back because the truck would have a hard time leaving. Everyone else had parked closer to the truck already. I nodded and parked a row back. Keri and I watched a huge kitchen appliance get moved into the eatery. We then walked in. The man who had spoken to me welcomed us in English. I also heard Mandarin and Vietnamese spoken by staff. He found Keri's reservation and we got a corner booth. Yay! This eatery currently has Japanese BBQ lunch sets that start at $15.99 weekdays from noon to 4 pm. Such a steal! We got laminated menus. There's also a QR code on each table for the online version. There are three combo sets that all have these components: - Meat - Sushi - Salad * - Rice * - Soup * - Dessert * means items are fixed. The others have some flexibility to choose what you'd like. We opted for combos A and C. We essentially tried everything in our combos, which was fun. We got these items in combo A ($15.99): - Chef salad - Fried chicken - Steamed rice - Chicken marinated with shio koji - Thinly sliced pork belly - Japanese-style sausage with mozzarella - Seasonal veggies with king oyster mushrooms - Miso soup - Crème brûlée Combo C ($22.99) had these items: - Chef salad - Yuzu mayo fried shrimp - Steamed rice - AAA flat-iron steak - Toro beef with garlic sauce - Veggie platter - Scallops (2) - Miso soup - Mango sago Each combo had a choice of sushi. We ended up having three sushi choices in total: - California roll - Black dragon roll - Salmon taco Service was excellent. Servers were attentive clearing empty plates and refilling our pitcher with water. Grilling our food was fun and therapeutic. The chicken did stick the most on the grill. Otherwise, we had a good time using tongs to cook everything. Each combo came with kimchi, pickled cucumber, garlic, and lettuce. We loved the sides and ended up eating all the sliced garlic, both grilled and raw. Thoughts: - The proteins were delicious. They were flavourful and enjoyable to cook. They were all my favourites. - The seafood was excellent. The scallops were yummy. The yuzu mayo fried shrimp were massive! The sauce was yummy. - I loved the veggies. Button and king oyster mushrooms. Asparagus. Zucchini. All delicious. - The staples (salad, miso soup, and steamed rice) were perfect. I especially loved the miso dressing in the salad. I'm a soup person and it was a must. The steamed rice complemented the proteins and veggies nicely. - The sushi wasn't great. Not horrible. Nothing to write home about. This place specializes in BBQ and should stick to it. - The desserts were perfect. I loved the creamy crème brûlée custard with the crunchy top and refreshing mango sago. They were the perfect end to our meal. I used the women's washroom before we left. It was clean. No issues. We had a great lunch on our second attempt here. The Japanese BBQ was excellent. Getting sushi is unnecessary. However, it did come with our combos. Just know that it was okay, but nothing to write home about. (336)
