Was looking for a place to hang out and relax during a business trip. The food was good and the atmosphere and people were great!! Happened to be on a night with live music, Gourmet Jam, and he took requests. Highly recommend if you want to be well taken care of and have a good time. read more

Went here on a whim with my husband early on a Saturday. We've newly moved to the area and had intended to go to a local Mexican place which was much closer but I wanted to drive around and see what other options we had and I'm so glad we did!!! We both ordered a burger platter, the crab bite apps, and each had a bottled beer. I LOVE a good burger and this place DEFINITELY delivered. Our waitress was extremely attentive and nice, which made our visit even better. The prices were a little high but this isnt a chain and I'm sure they dont get the "discounts" most chain locations get for ordering in bulk AND ...the food definitely seemed to be fresher than most premade chain food. So, all in all, the experience and food was definitely worth every penny. We will be making this our "date night" treat. read more

My boyfriend and I come here often, normally on 7.50 burger night. I'm a vegetarian and there veggie burger is amazing! It's a black bean Patty that definitely seems to be homemade not like anything you can buy in store. It's only 1.00 more to add it to any burger on the menu! My favorite is the Commodore Barry with no bacon add blue cheese! It's one of the only vegetarian items on the menu but it does not disappoint! read more

Not usually a big fan of this place but tonight we decided to go. The food was good. But we had a great waitress not sure her name but she's from Chesapeake relocated to Gloucester. Sometimes it not about food but it was nice to meet a really nice hardworking mom. read more

Was hoping to be giving a better review and would probably give 2 stars if not for the friendly service. Got the fish and shrimp and the shrimp was horribly over cooked. Got 20 wings, they were just ok but not great like I had heard. Now our son got a cheeseburger and he said it was amazing. read more

For a bar, food is very good and they a nice selection of items on the menu. Tonight was $0.80/wing night and hubs had those. Good, smoked then flash deep fried, no breading so all wing. Nice selection of sauces. Onion rings were lightly breaded and fried to perfection! I had the Ruben which was prepared wonderfully and very large. With as side of handmade CRISPY shoestrings. Will be back read more

The meals have always been consistent, never disappoints, prices are very reasonable, family friendly, smoke their own BBQ, and have a few beers on tap! We usually sit at the bar area (not a bar restaurant, just 6 seats or so on one side but has good views of the TVs,) Ryan (I think) usually waits on us, he is friendly, always remembers us, and always on top of things! read more

This was our first time here. All day we had been craving a good burger, and here we found it. Great service and amazing food. We both got a burger, one with Mac and cheese the other with apple pie applesauce. You can definitely tell they put love into the food they serve. We started with the southern bell fries and they were to die for. They even bring over a caddy of homemade sauces to use to your discretion. We will be back. Thank you Cheryl for the great service!!! read more

Stopped by because we saw the wing special sign out front. The special was $1.00/each with min 10. So we ordered and decided to wait to see how they are before ordering anything else. Glad we waited because they were horrible. Brown grease on bottom of basket. Ends of wings were burnt and hard. After these we left and my wife was nauseous so we made an emergency stop at Walmart (5 min. down the road) where she ran to restroom and threw up. Maybe their food was better when they opened but the restaurant was empty at dinner time so the word must be out. I will make a prediction that this place will be closing soon. read more

Reasonable and surprising pub with good service, super sandwiches, and fish n chips. A great tap selection with happy hour specials and a rotating (weekend-only) choice of different desserts and appetizers. We had the pretzels and shrimp to start and will definitely come back. The staff kept checking on us through the meal (fast with drinks) and they offer military and first responder discounts. read more

This has become our go to dinner stop on the way home from OBX. The burgers are the best! Personal service and great food. Only thing that could make it better is if it was closer to home. read more

The smoked wings were delicious, moist, lightly smokey, and dusted with a delicious rub. Huge portions of cod and delicious fresh-cut fries in the fish and chips basket. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely be going back! read more

The patriots grill is a Gloucester standard now. Everyone here loves the place and the staff. The food and service is perfect and I would only change one thing. Stop putting raisins in the coleslaw. Who does that? So, I pick them out and eat it anyway with their Cubian sandwich. read more

Wow! Amazing food. I had crab cakes and shrimp dinner with Mac and cheese (yum) and baked beans. Fantastic! Husband had wings and pulled pork, he loved everything. Love the newly renovated space. Ryan was our server he was excellent! A new favorite spot. We will be returning! read more

By far the best tasting burgers you'll ever eat!! My favorite is the commodore Barry! I have been several times and never disappointed!!

Cozy and casual. We went on a Tuesday and it was BOGO Fish & Chips. Great food and friendly service. Tables and booths. There is also a small bar inside with a few seats. Owner was very friendly and stopped at our table twice to see how everything was. Although I was full from the generous portion of fish from my entree, I had to try their bread pudding. Bread pudding was excellent! I will definitely be returning. read more

Clean. Fast. Good quality. They went downhill for awhile and I feared the worst but suddenly an uprise has happened and the food is better than ever. The burgers are on point, wings are delicious and to top it all, the staff is absolutely friendly. I feel welcomed and satisfied here. I recommend all the way to everyone. read more

Huge portions and the food was DELISH!!! Go visit them! "Batman" was our waiter and he did an amazing job. We took advantage of their Thursday night BFF special....burger, fries and float for $12. Can't beat it! The fried pickles were great too! read more

The Patriots Grill is located in what used to be El Ranchito, just off Rt. 14/17 east of WalMart. It's a friendly, noisy, inexpensive place, with REALLY good barbecue. The 'cue is North Carolina style, i.e. without the red sauce (it's in squeeze bottles on the table, along with Carolina-style pepper vinegar). The 'cue is juicy, tender, and nicely smokey. They also serve burgers, and other goodies as well. According to the menu, they cook their burgers to 165F (i.e. medium), but the burgers are nice and juicy all the same. They serve beer (bottled) and wine. Nothing fancy, but whatever brand the Chardonnay was, it was nice and fruity. I believe they're open for lunch, and they stay open until 9PM weeknights -- I don't know what the weekend hours are. Overall, a great addition to the scene. read more

Stopped here for dinner with a friend after being in town for the Daffodil Fest and it was delicious! The space is cute, it looks like it's been a bunch of other things and is being improved now. Three or four booths and some scattered tables- it's comfortable inside. Though it was off season- it looks like outside has a ton of seating in the warmer weather! There's a decent little beer list with solid variety. The food is all home made and I can not tell you how insanely fantastic it is... But I'll try! Hahaha. We both got burgers. They were thick and juicy and hot. The toppings were generous and the burger choices interesting and different. (Fried pickles on the burger- aye aye!) The fries are thin and crisp. We eyeballed everyone else's food too-- because I'm that creeper. The fish chunks on the fish and chips platter were two ginormous slabs that the gentleman eating them described as "light and crispy". So why the 3 stars when the food is definitely a 5? You guessed it- the service. Our server was sweet and pleasant, and hopefully brand new and just learning. We were one of three tables in the place at this early hour. Six customers total with the other two being pretty well established prior to our arrival and another server handling one of them. She interrupted a lot. Offered refills on full glasses (I LOVE the attentiveness- but you can see through my clear glass that it can't physically handle any more- so just skip us!), apps ordered, but never arrived or never mentioned again. Checks were brought to one of us and then the other. Picked up one and then the other. And returned again one and then the other. (Last point and this one loses no stars, it's just something young servers should keep in mind- never call people "you guys".) I'll be back here when I'm in town this summer. The burger is something I'll dream of. read more

Ate here for the first time with my gf this afternoon, would definitely come back. I ordered the yum yum pig bum (pulled pork sandwich) and was nottt disappointed. One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've had! The sandwich came without sauce on it but they provide you with a caddy of various BBQ sauces to top your sandwich with (which I personally prefer). I also ordered a side of their mac n cheese- also one of the best home made mac n cheese dishes I've had. Super cheese and creamy and the noodles weren't cooked to mush. Service was great, our waitress Amber was extremely friendly and attentive. It took no time to get seated, order, be served, and then get our check. Which btw for 2 people and completely stuffed bellys full of great food was only $20. Seating area and bathroom were very clean and well kept. I def recommend! read more

My bf and I both had burgers, the Jamestown and the bacon cheddar, both on pretzel buns. They were so huge, juicy, and we didn't even need to add a sauce. We shared a root beer float which was great too, even tho they had to serve it with butter pecan instead of vanilla. Definitely coming back! read more

After reading the reviews from previous customers I'm not sure we are talking about the same place. We arrived around 5:30 and decided to share a 1/2 rack and pulled pork dinner. I requested a side salad before the dinner arrived which I am still waiting on. My friend asked the waiter if they had Splenda for his unsweetened tea ( there was only Sweet and Low on the table). The waiter said that they had it and brought out the beverages. When my friend asked for the Splenda he pointed to the Sweet and Low and said, "here it is". At that point I think we both knew this meal may not end well. The 1/2 rack was small with absolutely NO smoke flavor. The pulled pork was the same way, bland and without flavor. The sizes of everything on the plate were small. The best part of the meal was the coleslaw, which was acceptable. Our money would have been much better spent elsewhere. We will NOT be returning to Patriots Grill in the future. read more

Still awesome. Cheese steaks and onion rings were great! Service was phenomenal! I have to come back here more often.

Great service. Waitress was very nice. Fried pickles were awesome. When it came to the fish and chips... soggy batter and fish had no taste. Chips were not that good. Malt vinegar saved the day. The reason I'm giving three stars is bc of the service and how well Waitress did. read more

Terrible service and worse food. We waited an hour and half, then finally asked for the manager. There were people that came in behind us and who were served before us. We asked for our food to be boxed up as we could not wait anymore. Waitress brought our food FINALLY and dropped it on the floor - hard to believe. To their credit, they did discount our check but at that point, I didn't really care. I would have gladly paid double to get our food on time and have decent service. We got home with our order, soggy and cold, and it was wrong! Just not our night but will definitely NEVER return to this restaurant. The manager never came back out and apologized or made any comments - lack of leadership, management and awareness is obvious. Awful experience. read more

What a delicious surprise! The sausage sub on French bread, with marinara and provolone cheese was crusty and good. It had a little bite to it. My Mom had an authentic Cuban sandwich with good bread, pickles, lean pork and ham that was just right. The portions were decent and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing 1/2 of each sandwich with the other person. We loved sitting outside and had a great waitress. The owner is from Ireland and was also very nice to talk with. read more

We are new to the area and were looking for a place to eat. After reading the reviews we thought we would try Patriots Grill. I ordered the fried cod and shrimp and my boyfriend order crab cakes and cod. The food did not take long for us to get, but when our meals arrived my fish was warm and i had to get my finders dirty to peel my shrimp before i could eat it. My boyfriends food was warm as well. His crab cake were mushy, with limited favor. Our waiter was not attentive. He never came over to ask us how our food was. We had a young man standing between the rooms just watching people eat. Not sure what his purpose was. When the bill came we were taken back by what the cost of our meal was. We did not get the portion size for the price we payed and the service we received. Not sure if all the food is the same quality, but we will not be going back to find out. read more

This place is a gem for Gloucester. Being a local we enjoy going now and then, and good news is they're renovating the place. Enclosing the existing porch but maintaining the deck seating in the rear. One of the last times we enjoyed their eclectic food we ordered wings for an appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised with their smokiness and their several different sauces. We liked them all. Haven't experienced their lunchtime offerings but sure it's just as great as din-din read more

My fiancé and I were not at all please. Our first warning sign should have been the couple behind us was complaining to the manager about having to wait over a hour for their food to be served after ordering it. But having never been to this restaurant before and traveling through the area we decided to continue. After waiting 11 minutes for our server to come take our order, we then waited over 45 minutes to receive our meals. My fiancé's order was wrong, but having to not want to wait longer, nothing was said. But in addition to this we discover our food was cold and the shrimp & fish was chewy. We then sat with dirty plates while our waitress asked if we wanted anything else, came passing through multiple times, brought the check, and multiple times eye contact was made with the manager who did not seem to care that even once our check was brought back to us (by a guy from behind the bar who did not say a word to us, but handed the check back to my fiancé with my name on the card) we still had dirty plates and therefore no room to put the check down to sign it. We even overheard the manager badmouthing other patrons who "wasted food" when clearing off a table only after that party of 4 had left. To put it lightly, I don't think we will be stopping there on our way through town again. read more

Great place, funky Honky Tonk country bar, drinks made right good prices for the city.

Really good Cuban sandwich and bread pudding. Also the hand cut house fries are my favorite fries ever!

Great little place with excellent food. But, I wish they posted that the specials don't start until after 4pm.

This establishment does not care about it's patrons. My family went here on $11 BFF night. (Burgers Fries and Floats) I informed the waitress I would be ordering the BFF special. She acknowledged, so I ordered a plain mushroom and cheese burger with no other toppings. I then asked if I could sub fries for beans, and she said that is fine!I also requested to add the $2.50 side salad. My wife ordered the exact same. When I got the bill we were charged $2.00 extra on each burger for additional toppings on a plain burger, $1.00 extra for each subbed side, and $3.50 for each side salad. I explained to the manager the issue, however I didn't catch it until she swiped the card. She told me it was too late and she couldn't change it. I informed her that is a false statement and she could indeed credit the overages. She then said all of the charges were legitimate. That there are no substitutions allowed on BFF night, even though my waitress said it was ok, and what although the waitress said it I still had to pay the charges. Unfortunately the poor decisions of the Manager on this night now mean that this establishment has lost a weekly customer of $8, and refusing to honor the special after I asked if my substitutions were ok prior to making them. read more

Hard to get in and not terribly friendly. Alright for beer but they don't sell much food so it may be a little old. Good outside if not much traffic on roed. read more

We went here this afternoon with a group of 4. My wife had a grilled chicken salad which she said was delicious. I had the fish and chips which were terrific. The fish was flaky and delicious.
