WOW, OH MY, MMM MMM MMM - These were the only words spoken as my wife and I took bite after bite of the mind-blowing meal that was placed in front of us at Patria. We did not know what to expect as we entered the front doors of the whitewashed building, but we were immediately drawn in by the European decor. There were art pieces displayed on the walls with vintage knick-knacks placed throughout, blended with gorgeous giant orchids. We were promptly seated by a very nice waitress. The menu was limited, but obviously very well thought out. After asking the waitress for suggestions she guided us toward the brown butter ravioli for an appetizer, striped bass for my wife and the NY strip steak for me. Both plates included au gratin potatoes and sautéed spinach or green beans. Starting with the appetizer, our mouths dropped as we took the first bite. The delicate brown butter sauce with the perfectly cooked ravioli was unlike anything we had ever drive before. We could not believe how much flavor such a simple dish could have. It simply danced on your tongue as it begged for more. Then came our main entrees and once again our tastebuds were filled with wonder as the savory steak was cut with ease and graced our mouths with the decadence of a wine and mushroom sauce. The striped bass, which was in a league of its own, was coated with butter and melted in our mouths with a freshness that only comes from a perfectly cooked filet. But to our surprise, the star of the night were the au gratin potatoes. The finely cut potatoes were placed on top of each other to make a stacked tower coated with a fresh cheese sauce and a single layer of soft carrot. We simply could not get enough of this luscious creation. Each bite got better and better and although our appetites were completely satisfied we simply could not leave any of this masterpiece left on the plate. After having tried some incredible restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout Los Angeles, we can confidently say that this was hands down the best fish meal we have ever had. It is so unfortunate that we do not live closer because we would definitely be visiting this restaurant again in the very near future. The interesting decor, exquisite food, and the very nice wait staff made this experience one that we will cherish for a very long time. Well done Patria. We hope to see you again. read more

It's a little hard to find fine vegan dining in Salinas, but Patria's chef is so willing to make a beautiful vegan dish of vegetables and pasta for anyone who is vegan. It was much to my delight when I learned this. My plate was loaded with a lovely array of veggies, beets, green beans, carrots, spinach, egg plant, and pasta... awesome dish. He was so happy to do this. The service is great, just enough attention and not too much. When I have been there, it is a bit more quiet, during mid-week, and I know they can get busy on the weekends. It's a lovey, rustic and homey feeling, while being a bit upscale. I can't recommend Patria's enough, a bright spot in Salinas. read more

Tremendous waiter the night we stopped in. Food was better this time when every dish was had was laying in what my son called " A puddle of sauce ". But the owner prowls around with this grumpy face, constantly correcting his staff, and it is not a pleasing environment to see him riding his staff. Either stay in the kitchen or prowl the restaurant, but if you are going to try and mingle, smile and be gracious instead of looking unhappy. read more

We decided to have dinner here since we just arrived from Chicago and have family that live in town and frequently dine at this restaurant There is a lot of construction going on so parking was a little difficult but we managed to find a spot pretty fast. We had a party of 6. It was a pretty chilly evening. Things kind of started out rough as a few appetizers were not avail. We ended up trying a Pizza instead. I never heard of this combination before, Chicken with Chile Verde and it was actually very good. We also had the Grilled Pork Chop, Salmon and a couple of the farmer New York Steaks. The food was remarkable and so fresh. I'm impressed; this place is doing their very best to accommodate their customers during these times. So many things to worry about but they provided excellent food. read more

Food is consistently delicious, staff is nice and attentive, and drinks are well made.

Excellent food, exceptional service. We came from out of town on a quiet mid-week evening and our waiter, Campo, went way above and beyond to accommodate us for our family meal. read more

Excellent dinner! Fun to be around lots of good people in an iconic place in old downtown! Lots of good memories here from times past.

I must say this is probably the best restaurant in Salinas. The menu is fantastic. It is a German/Italian menu for the most part. Around here this is the only place you will find some of the items on the menu. The venue is also really nice with a nice bar. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is the place to go if you want a nice dinner in Salinas. read more

I've written many reviews and love to recommend restaurants whose owners really deserve to be successful.. Although the food at Patria is very good.. I will never come here again!!.. My girlfriend and I wanted a nice early dinner and walked into a meeting that the owner was having with his staff.. One of the more senior servers immediately saw us and asked us if we wanted a drink while they were in their meeting.. The owner immediately reprimanded him and told him we didn't matter.. He did.. I've been in the hospitality business for over 30 years and realize that customer service is #1! It's apparent that money is this owner's only concern and not the customers.. I will spread what happened to us! This business does not care about his patrons.. Too bad!!.. Needless to say we left... read more

WE are visiting Salinas this weekend and looked on Yelp for a good downtown restaurant to visit. The food was as wonderful as described. I had the special of the night, Maui Maui and it was excellent! Tender, with a delicious, lemony butter sauce, the tenderest scalloped potatoes and asparagus. My husband had the the Jaeger Schnitzel and loved it. The pork chop was tender with no gristle. The waiter was fast and competent and the atmosphere was pleasant. We were there for an early Friday night dinner and left around 7:30. By then it ws getting just a little too loud. A roomful of happy people can do that! read more

Great delicious food loved the service they were fast and helpful. Make sure to enjoy yourself here

Poor customer service. Poor food quality. Waiter's are rude and so entitled. Not sure how they stay in business? read more

Our second time here, but this time for a disappointing and overpriced dinner. Not the friendliest of waiters, no bread (due to covid, really?) I had the Beef Goulash as my last time here, this time I believe they just heated the plate up because the Spãtzle seemed overcooked, still not too bad for my taste. My Date had ratatouille with Risotto, which was good, but the ratatouille looked and tasted like nothing we had before, they obviously cut corners there. Apfel Strudel was not bad, but we left thinking that we could have paid less for better! read more

Delicious! I enjoyed every moment. I came with a group of friend that are from out of town & everything worked out. Will come back again.

We had the calamari and prosciutto for appetizers. The calamari was cooked perfect, not mushy at all, and with a fantastic aioli dipping sauce. I had the grilled pork chop, spinach, and potatoes, The pork chop was grilled to perfection, it was moist, and flavorful. The chop had a nice gravy covering it, which had the right blend of flavor, not too salty. The service was outstanding, prompt, and met all of our needs. I would highly recommend Patria. read more

Came here last night with some coworkers. Rustic and welcoming interior. Had the calamari since we were close to Monterey... charcuterie board as well...wine selection was nice. We chose to host the company Christmas party at Patria this year for the first time. Our group was seated in the "Clock Room" which was intimate and attractive. Perfect for the group and everyone loved it! So many choices were presented on the menu and everyone was thrilled with what they ordered. Delicious, fresh and served quite quickly for the 12 of us. Our waitress was very gracious and kind, a real plus in today's world. We would definitely return, again, and highly recommend this gem in Salinas! read more

Delightful dinner and charming atmosphere well supported by a gracious, personable and knowledgeable waiter. These qualities combined to make our evening out with friends as nice of an event as when they took us to dinner in their hometown of New Orleans! Our meals were well prepared and had that "specialness" that so many places can't create. I had salmon that was flavorful, fresh, and just right. We shared some Troublemaker wine from Paso that was recommended by the waiter and turned out to be a perfect compliment to our evening's conversation. The atmosphere was casual, charming, and busy enough to be friendly, while quiet enough that we could listen well to our friends and enjoy the company. I'm so glad Salinas has such a wonderful restaurant in downtown. We will be back again soon. read more

Managed to get out of town for a weekend and headed to the Salinas/Monterey area for some diving. I arrived later than expected and as a result where I had initially planned to go for dinner was already closed. Fortunately, Patria was still open and ended up being a far better meal than I would have otherwise had. Started out with the cheese board. It was a diverse selection of 6 cheeses along with some jam, candied nuts, and a couple slices of bread. In terms of size and variety it was perfect. For the main dish, I had the lamb shank and my friend the warm chicken salad. The salad was fairly basic, but good with generous portions of chicken. The lamb shank was cooked perfectly and came served with ratatouille and scalloped potatoes. The portion of the sides could have been a little larger, but it was all delicious! Finally, for dessert, we got the triple chocolate mousse and the pear strudel. The mousse was exactly what I had hoped! Presented well, rich and sweet, but not overly so. My friend complained about there being raisins in the strudel (personally, I believe they belong there) but otherwise liked it very much. All in all, the food was pretty much perfect. In fact, my only criticism comes from the bar, and specifically the old fashioned that I ordered. It was watered down. The portion size was large, so I don't feel like they skimped on the alcohol or anything, but an old fashioned should be almost straight whiskey. A couple splashes of water or club soda is acceptable, but what I was served was borderline tasteless. It was disappointing especially considering how great everything else was. I plan on coming back, but next time I maybe just stick to beer read more

Patria - Everything here is fantastic but the Lemon Tart my favorite! - Italian Near Me - Salinas, California

To me, this was the best restaurant in Salinas: Great Food, good local wines and very friendly and effective service. 5 stars for sure! Granted, Salinas is not known for its culinary competitiveness, but even then I thought this place was a hidden Jewel. This was my go-to place for a nice night out with my family or romantic night with my wife. However, COVID appears to have "infected" the good vibes of the place. In the Fall of 2021, I visited the place again. Totally different experience! The menu was very limited, the service was horrendous. The waiter was even complaining about the owner; service was very slow; additionally, the waiter appear to ignore us when we were trying to catch his attention. He finallycame over just to bring the check....On a good note, the wine continue to meet expectations which is why I gave it 2 stars. read more

I used to throughly enjoy this spot pre covid. Now the menu is reduced (still not the worse thing ever) yet, they are not making the food to the same standard as before. I ordered the carbonara pasta and it was one of the worst pastas I've ever had. No flavor and the pasta wasn't fully cooked with a pile of peas at the bottom. Such a bummer because as I said, I used to love this spot. Although the pasta was horrendous... I think the charcuterie board we ordered with a side of bread was more dreadful then the pasta. For the bread, the offered-- what looks like a hotdog bun cut in 3 pieces. Will never come back. Honestly quite embarrassing. read more

Patria - Shrimp spicy pasta! - Italian Near Me - Salinas, California

Patria was the first date night we had when we moved to Salinas. It did not disappoint. The ambiance is beautiful (it's a rustic European decor) and there is always something soft playing in the background. But the food! THE FOOD! I have never been to Patria and have been disappointed. Their appetizer menu is awesome. My favorite is the mussels served in a tomato broth with julienned leeks and carrots. It's delicious. It's great on a cold night, the broth warms one right up! I have two favorite things I will order for dinner: the warm roasted chicken salad which is lightly tossed in olive oil with potato and yam au gratin served in a neat little stack on each side of the plate, roasted chicken, and onion strings OR the scallops on pureed potatoes with leeks and beurrre blanc. I've tried other things on the menu and they're all delicious, but those two items are my favorite. It will not disappoint. The wait staff and the hosts are kind, thoughtful, and attentive. They never disappoint. It's always going to be my favorite place. :) read more

Food: 3/5 Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Service: ... Cute restaurant decor and it definitely had the barn-style feel. Tried the pork schinizel and it was pretty yummy, best thing we had there, the flavors complimented well together, pork cutlet was not bad at all! The pastas on the other hand, kudos to them for trying to make fresh pastas but the pastas were so dense and undercooked and thick :( Do not recommend the pasta dishes as the flavors were alright and basic, but it might just be their off day. If you come here, come here for the ambience and maybe a drink or two. Prices are a little higher, expect to spend about $30-40 per person just for one entree after tips and tax. Service is not the best, guy spilled wine, we ordered a bottle, he just dumped all the wine into two random glasses even though we wanted to split between 4 people. We didn't even have a say..ah well. Won't come back again but still, a cute little spot. read more
