Amazing date night destination! Being from Hollister we usually head to Morgan Hill or San Jose, decided to mix it up & head south. We are so glad we did. The atmosphere was so warm & inviting, yet elegant and intimate. I was concerned about sitting on a long bench shared by others, but it really felt like we were at a private table in the corner, all others melted away. Our server, Manual, was congenial, knowledgeable, available but not hovering. He easily answered (not thrown off) by our question of what meat made up the burgundy sauce & praised our choices throughout the courses. We started with the cheese board which was an experience to share, not just a food to eat. I would have liked a crunchy crostini bread to smear some of the cheese on as I didn't want to lose it's flavor in the bread rolls...so I just ate it off my fork. My husband ordered the pappardelle with wild boar sauce and I ordered the handmade spaetzle. Both were hearty and flavorful. My one, tiny, little improvement would be they both lacked salt. The pappardelle would have been better if I could have convinced my husband to stir his cheese throughout his bowl, I believe that is where his saltiness would have come in. Sadly he did not understand my instructions (*sigh*). My dish, however, had no salt element...not in the spaetzle or in the sauce. In fact my sauce tasted rather sweet. I believe perhaps because we both had long braising sauces, as opposed to a quick sauce or gravy, maybe the salt mellowed out. Unfortunately there were no salt/pepper options on the table, as I'm seeing in more & more fine dining restaurants these days, so adjusting to our taste was not an option (though we were offered cracked black pepper or parm by our server as our plates were delivered - I'm just not a fan of adding/altering the food before it is tasted from the kitchen). Neither of us were unhappy with our choices by any means! Throughout the meal we enjoyed a pitcher of house Cabernet which paired nicely with our food choices. To finish the meal I had the coffee tray & my husband ordered the dessert special which was a poached pear on a cookie. It was so good! I'm not big on super sweet and this did not disappoint! I appreciate that the whipped cream topping was not heavily sugared (if at all) so as not to take away from the crunchy, bright pear, sweet cookie & cream sauce. I encouraged my husband to try the whipped cream alone, his comment was "it taste like water"...this comes from a man with a very strong sweet tooth so that puts in to perspective the light, non-sugary or processed, taste of the cream. A perfect ending to a perfect meal and a perfect date night! Cannot wait to return & explore more of the menu. read more
