It gives it so much more character and I enjoyed reading at the mini stories & art they had on the wall when I came. There is a little parking lot outside as well as street parking. We came here with the intent of doing some work. Patria had free wifi, spacious tables, and outlets. The space itself is not that big, but if you come early or get lucky, it's a comfortable place to get some work done. I had an iced mocha with almond milk. I enjoyed that a lot. I didn't get to try any of the pastries yet, but plan to be back in the future to try them. The server/barista was very kind and knowledgable so we enjoyed chatting with him about the drinks as well. I ordered a chai latte with soy milk and really liked the taste of the chai. It was spicy and the flavors are really pronounced. I like to think that soy milk helps flavors come out more since the milk isn't heavy or creamy. It was a little over $6 for a small. Unfortunately, they ran out of pastries when I arrived (12pm on a Thursday) so that should tell you something. I'll have to come by early in the morn. They have limited outdoor seating but the inside is where you'll want to be. The walls are covered in art and history. It reminds me of a mom and pop coffee shop you'd come by in Brooklyn, NY. This coffee shop is lovely. The coffee is good, the atmosphere is good, the people are nice. However, they have sometimes baristas working that really shouldn't be on shift by themselves. It's Valentine's Day morning and i have been waiting for 10 minutes. It's a steady stream of maybe 2 people in line, but the barista will take so long to take everyone's orders then move in slow motion. There's a bottleneck of about 5 people waiting for their drinks - some here for way longer than me. It's just very inefficient. This makes me think Patria isn't a reliable place for a quick drink and is only somewhere I can come if I'm not in a rush - which isn't realistic most mornings. We walked into Patria on a Saturday afternoon and ordered 3 Iced Ibarra Mexican Moch's with oat milk and they were yummy. We also picked up a School Coffee Cake and a Chocolate Chip Cookie. The cookie was a hit with the family! My husband and daughter were the only 2 to have ever had LAUSD coffee cake and mentioned Patria's version could use more coffee crumble. The tables were full with people meeting up, others working, and some reading. There seems to be a small selection of small business merchants who sell from the coffee shop. So you could easily grab a drink and a plant or gift. The parking may be a little tricky if the shop is full. I'm not familiar with this area and if we're ever back in the area we'd swing by for another iced mocha. read more

Patria is my "go to" move when I'm in the CPT. Sometimes it's even a "go to"'when I'm not. The only thing that beats the energy, feel, intentionality and purpose of this space is the coffee itself...oh, and the coffee cake, when they have it. (Although it is not made in-house, I believe it's by Home Girl Cafe, which taste just like the classic LAUSD coffee cake, they keep it stocked). When it comes to drinks try everything once! You won't be disappointed. My favorite is a basic latte with "cafe de olla" syrup. I'm typically not a fan anise, which is the base of the "cafe de olla" syrup, but it works here!! Give it a go! Recently had a wonderful experience at a coffee shop while traveling and I wanted to get that same feel once I got home.. I wanted to support a small business therefore I searched on Yelp for a cafe/ coffee shop and found Patria located in Compton. I knew I had to visit and give them a try. After yelping and reading a few reviews I decided to skip ordering online and opted to wait to order in person. When I arrived there was only one person ahead of me. The staff greeted me with a friendly "good morning". The shop was really cute with some bar seating that was inviting and I'm sure was once a spot people studied and read books. There was also a chess game insight. I ordered a vanilla latte made with almond milk, I was surprised how frothy they were able to make it. The flavor and temperature was perfect.. And there is open street parking along the park side that's always an option, too. COVID: The place is always super clean! This isn't my first time here and it definitely won't be the last . I love this small local spot! I have gotten a few drinks here but most recently I had the oat coffee iced latte they serve and the flavor is bomb ! You always have the option to add an extra shot of espresso if you'd like which I did. The service is always friendly and pretty quick I must add. The vanilla latte here is also really good ! Not your average hipster coffee joint in Compton. They have ah*may*zing baristas here, super friendly and helpful. I also love that it's locally owned so you know you're supporting the community when you purchase here. Got the cafe de olla, which came with real cinnamon sticks inside but wasn't overpowering with cinnamon flavor. It was a tad to sweet for me personally (don't have a sweet tooth) but was delicious nonetheless. Next time I'll order it cold and half sweet! Definitely will be back! read more

Decided to check out a black-owned business on Election Day bc my neighborhood doesn't have a lot.. glad I went! I went in the morning within 30 mins of opening and got a matcha latte w honey lavender syrup and oat milk. It was pretty pricy ($7.70 bc of the add-ons and upgrade to large) but overall a good quality drink. The honey lavender syrup is pretty strong on the honey flavor. I also got a coffee cake - so yummy and moist!! Would definitely get this again. Parking is pretty easy. It looks like it's takeout only for now. Out here working and wanted to try some coffee. After reading the reviews it was a no brainer we stopped and it did not disappoint. I ordered a slice of pumpkin bread which was fresh soft and very tasty no pics cause i ate it to fast. I got their most popular latte and that was also amazing. I find it very clean and modern, with the artwork on the walls being a unique touch. On the menu you will find a couple familiar options like lattes, teas, and expressos. There's also some caffeine-free drinks like decaf flash brew, vanilla steamer, and hot chocolate. Dairy-free extras include soy, almond, and oat milk. They have a small selection of pastries available as well. So far I've tried Iced Latte, Cafe con Leche, and Iced Americano, and would have them again. All reasonably priced and delicious. Beans can also be purchased; either whole, coarse for french press, or grounded for drip machine. Patria makes a positive impact on the community and our environment! I happen to coincidentally see this place on Alameda! I work less than 1/2 mile away from Patria and I am VERY glad they are here now! Parking - They have parking spaces, but were packed during lunch. So had to kind of circle around. Inside - The store is VERY simple, and very cute! They have a huge table with stools, and a bar seating towards the window. Everything is very clean and even all their machines are brand new. We ordered 5 drinks, 3 iced lattes and 2 cappuccinos. Unlike places like Starbucks, they really make sure your order is made to correction with lots of focus and effort. They measure everything and their artwork on cappuccino is very cute! Getting the drinks did take some time, but I really appreciated their attention to our drinks. It wasn't made in a rush nor was it one of those 'manufactured' drink feel like at Starbucks~ You definitely get the cozy and homey feel here from the environment and to the baristas! They also had some pastries, which I'm not too familiar with. But hopefully I hope they have a bigger selection because I am definitely a sweets/pastry person!
