Do not waste your time at this place. The scheduling staff and administration does not care about your time. I got double booked at 1.00 pm and after waiting over 30 minutes was told the staff was out at lunch. The lady who manages the reception desk argued that they do not have to take patients in the order they were scheduled and that I should just keep waiting till everyone is back. She started to give me examples of how scheduling works at a car dealership, where you are not seen in the order you were scheduled! I had a couple of visits with Dr. Patel and the office at Edison and Kendall Park. I had both of my eyes done - cataracts. The results are amazing and I'm very happy with the outcome so far. I must say Dr. Patel is a highly experienced professional with years of practice and surgery. His knowledge is a result of, not only, the learned theory, but also that theory put successfully into what he does. His staff is also professional. It is not their fault that many patients come to be treated. That itself serves as a positive testament on behalf of the practice - if something was not up to par, there would be no patients lining up for help. Be kind and courteous towards the staff. They are there to help. I can understand how frustrating the wait can be - I almost " lost my shit" when my left eye surgery was late 4 hours, but you just need to be patient and think of the outcome. read more

Terrible customer service. The employees at the front desk including the billing department are extremely rude especially Bina. They talk to you in a way as if they are doing you a favor by serving you, which is certainly not the case. As a friendly reminder to Patel Eye Associates you're in business because you have patients so treat them with respect instead of treating them as second class citizens. Today, Bina called to confirm an appointment and demanded we pay an outstanding bill from 2020. When asked what the bill is for, she became extremely aggressive in her tone and failed to provide any explanation of the balance besides, "if the bill is not paid, the appointment will be reschedule". So I asked her to mail me every single invoice ever entered into their system because her record does not match with mine. Upon requesting this information, she refused to mail the invoices and said to reach out to my insurance company for this. Again, Patel Eye Associates as a running practice you by law are required to provide your patients with billing documents. Don't take advantage of your patients in light of them being unaware of their rights. Minutes after this conversation, someone from their billing department left me the below voicemail which clearly shows they had an error on their billing and were incorrectly stating I owed a balance of $900. (sidenotes: no air conditioning, door frame missing from door [see picture], and all lights off inside except for one dim one at front desk) -5:00 appointment, I arrived at 4:55. Signed in, not acknowledged by staff. -5:20: Woman behind desk (that's also caring for a toddler) finally greets me and hands me a bunch of papers to fill out...papers that could have either been filled out prior to my appointment, or given to me upon my arrival. -5:25 I hand back papers, provide insurance, pay copay -5:50, yes 5:50 (my appointment was at 5:00): tech calls me back and sits me down for initial eye test, as she's sitting me down, another tech comes and they start arguing about who gets to do my test 5:55: hit in eye twice by machine, eye test complete 6:00: Dilation eye drops poured on face and eyes (5-6 drops on right side of each liquid)...my eyes weren't closing and I wasn't moving, 1-2 drops is normal amount 6:02: Back to waiting room for dilation 6:05: Tech calls another patient back, then tells the family next to me that THEY ARE NEXT...I clarify with front desk babysitter that there are still three people ahead of me even though it's now AN HOUR AND FIVE MINUTES after my scheduled appointment time. She shrugs and says yes, because kids take longer. I request a refund of copay which she quickly provides, then walk out, dripping sweat since its 85 degrees out and no A/C. read more

My experience with patel eye associate was good but could have been better. Dr patel is well experience and professional. Patel eye associates is super busy clinic, they can improve on taking appointments and their policy about it. You can't go in without appointment. Appointments policy is patient cannot be late more than 30 minutes otherwise you have to pay fee, even though patients ended up waiting for 2 hours. Waiting room is big but not big enough for patel eye associate patient. Staffs need to be more friendly and professional. I get it, you are busy and crowded, and it's get overwhelming. But you are in customer service business, they need to more kind and have patience. Tips: if you decide going here, be prepare to wait in waiting room forever and plus lot of follow ups. read more

Hopeless place! My insurance was such that I need not pay for contacts examination but the front desk charged me $120/-. Fortunately I asked a black female in the billing department whose was the last day of working at Patel eye associates And she immediately told front desk to return my money. The new horrible billing person anum, fortunately was not there. It took 6 months for me to get contact examination and get contacts from Patel eye associates. About Edison Facility - This place is like a fish market. To begin with this place is small and from COVID-19 perspective, small place is not good. You put your name in the list even if you have appointment and then they ask you to wait in the car outside which is fine but this place just had a lot of foot traffic. They have too many patients walking in and out of this place. From COIVD-19 perspective, This facility is not clean at all, no one cares about clean pen and dirty pen, no one is cleaning the door nobs or the counter time to time. There are just way too many workers in each others place in the small place, on top of that they have patients coming in and out. The Receptionist - There are always around 2 to 3 ladies working at the front desk. Most of them are Rude and unprofessional. They don't even greet you, or inform you of anything other then saying to wait in the car. I don't blame them though when they are dealing with so many patients... which is also an issue because why have so many patients that you cant even handle... Just so you can make more money? They gave my mom an appointment of 1 PM which means the procedure would not be done till 3 -4 pm. which means My mother who is a heart patient and on high dose medications and multiple Blood thinner would have to stay fasting from 10 PM the night before till 5 PM next day till we reach home. THIS IS UNEXCEPTABLE!!! This is senior citizen we are talking about, you can not have them stay facing for more then 16 hours. I requested the surgical person to move my Mom's up for the surgery so its done earlier in the day. They asked me to call the Dr. I kept calling Patel Eye Associates office from 3 PM onwards on a Thursday and it kept on ringing and saying all lines are busy. I ended up calling Surgical place to cancel the appointment because no one picked up the call at the Patel EYE associates. From COIVD-19 perspective the only thing they follow is to ask the patient to wait in the car. Okay, I would ignore some of the comments below. I was very worried about going here but had a limited choice because many places did not accept my dad's insurance Horizon NJ Health. He had an appointment for 10 am with Dr.Shah on Saturday. We did not get seen by the doctor until 11:30 am but be aware that before we saw the doctor, took us about 20 min to fill up paperwork as we were new patients, then my dad was screened by the technician, and received several tests. The technician,Abdulla, screened us and answered all of our questions regarding the tests that my dad was set to take. Abdulla was also the assistant to the doctor while my dad was being evaluated by the doctor and after the doctor had exited the room he explained to us all the drops my dad needed to take. He was very patient and gentle with my dad who was very impatient and had a lot of questions. He advised on what other steps we should be taking to ensure my dad's medical condition is treated and did not worsen. FYI my dad has cataracts and was also diagnosed with glaucoma on the second visit after additional tests. Everyone has different experiences at the eye doctor. This place is such a joke. They are so much more interested in making money than about the patients. For a 9am appointment, you will not see the doctor until 10. I paid my co-pay up front each time I went and I still got a bill in the mail. I went a total of 4 times, the first to get the prescription and then 3 follow ups about a week apart - the appointments were too close together and did not accomplish anything except me making co-pay payments. Before we first went to this place, we made sure that Dr. Patel was in our insurance network. The first visit, we were seen by Dr. Patel, but then on subsequent visits we were seen by different doctors (not by our choice). Upon questioning, the front office staff said that it doesn't matter which doctor sees you, the insurance will be billed under Dr. Patel. 3 years later I get a bill for $211, because one of the doctors was not in network. Based on the information we were given and based on the fact that different doctors saw us (not by our choice), we are now being sent letters by the collection agency for this money. On one occasion we were given an appointment and when we showed up the office was closed. The front staff is rude and it is a very common sight to see irate customers having a shouting match with the staff. I am currently in the process of talking to the billing office to see that it is not fair to bill me when I had insurance and to see how poorly managed their office is. This is one of the worst practices in Edison. They will suggest you to do unnecessary testing just for the purpose of billing your insurance. Also the junior doctors will test you and then they will always recommend that you need to see the senior doctor on another day paying another co pay and another billing to insurance.They why cant we just skip seeing the junior doctor and see the senior doctor to save money on co-pay and insurance. They will always want to test your eyes with all possible equipment available on their premises even if it is not necessary. They will always advice the patients to come back soon(4-6 months) for routine checks even when there is no major eye problems. This doctor is biggest cheater I have come across. We had gone for routine yearly eye exam and told them that my medical insurance covers routine eye exam under preventive diagnostics and that's what should be used. Instead of using routine, this doctor has put it under some medical exam and charged $600 (seriously) for eye test. Simple eye test, $600 is ridiculous. I talked to their office and was told you signed for medical exam, when I asked why it was not explained to us that they won't claim under routine eye test, but would claim it under medical exam, instead of having us sign a paper without any explanation, I didn't get any reason and was repeatedly told that you signed for it. I've been going to this doctor for a long time and each time, I get more and more frustrated. 1) They are extremely unprofessional. The receptionists don't know what they're talking about, and often times give incorrect information. If you try to tell them that they are billing you incorrectly or anything like that, they talk to you rudely. 2)You will be waiting there for hours. I went to follow-up on an eye issue I had, the appointment should have taken no more than 15 minutes, however, I was there for over 3 hours! I had told them when I made the appointment that I needed to be in and out because I was going over on my lunch break, and I reminded them again when I got there, but they clearly know nothing about time management. 3) They just want your money. Every time I go, they ask me for a $20 co-pay. When I found out my co-pay is only $5, they refused to refund me the extra money they've been charging me. They also said it's policy to charge $20, which makes no sense! On top of that, they billed my sister incorrectly for procedures she never had done. Ive left reviews elsewhere to save you the annoyance and time wasting we went through. I really can't stress how awful an experience this was. Dr. Patel's office was undergoing renovation. It was overcrowded (many people standing, no open seats), exposed, and half-finished construction. When we arrived and wrote our name down at 2p on a Saturday, there were two other appointments booked for the same time slot and the nurses were bragging how many patients they had "squeezed in" that morning. We then waited 1 hour for our name to be called. The receptionist only gave us paperwork after we requested and then only begrudgingly saying she wouldn't take our new patient information until all patients who had arrived before us had been seen by the doctor. After an hour, she called us up to tell us that our insurance company was not open on Saturday, so they couldn't verify whether or appointment would be covered; we might have to pay $90-$250 fee. Our insurance covers 100% of any in-network, full eye-exam, but by this point we were not feeling that Dr. Patel had garnered our trust. So, we walked out and made an appointment some where else. They do not acknowledge patients that enter, and nine times out of 10 the telephone does not get answered. Neither will your numerous voicemail messages. I left with an incorrectly written prescription for contact lenses that luckily was noticed by an outside optical place. The promised corrected prescription was never sent. Upon calling the office yet again, when I finally reached a person, she was too busy to talk. After numerous callbacks, she informed me she was too busy to email me the prescription that was on file and couldn't even determine if it was the correct one. I had to make yet another in personTo demand my prescription. I left with my chart and a promise to file a complaint with my insurance company. No patient should have to endure this low quality care with total disregard for the patients they are supposed to treat.
