I cannot believe how conniving they were. Go somewhere else. This was not worth the hassle for the diagnosis. I will absolutely not be going back.

When I called to see if they could run the insurance card before our visit to make sure it worked, they would not and showed no sympathy or patience. Have you and another person ever started to speak at the same time, and then you both pause so the other person can talk, and then you both start talking at the same time again? Normal people would then laugh and say "sorry, you go" or just wait longer for the other person to finish. Instead, the person on the phone curtly accused me of interrupting her three times and that she can't help me if I do that. I told her I wasn't purposefully interrupting her and she said I did. I've never had someone behave like that to me. I literally feel heat in my face right now over it. I can't wait to have the stupid appointment for my son tomorrow and then find a new doctor.

The front desk staff are helpful, both on the phone and in person, and try to accommodate requests as best as they can. (This past time, they were able to bump up an appointment for another family member that was later in the day to help us out). Overall, they do a good job. The doctors themselves seem to know what they are doing. We've had this female Asian doctor for the past few times that we've gone (I don't know if she's Dr. Boni or one of the other OD's in the office), but she always does a thorough and proper job. Finally, the selection of frames and options for glasses is quite good as well. The lady who helps out in that section is quite nice as well. Insurance (VSP for us) has never had an issue with this office, which is very different than some of the other places we used to go to in the past. It seems that these folks know what they're doing. In all, they run a tight ship, and it's definitely going in the right direction. Honestly, there isn't much of a need to look elsewhere for an eye doctor's office in this area!

I'm giving less than 5 stars for reasons I chose not to share but if the stars were only for Gail , there would be 5. Thanks you Gail and Dr. Boni's office!

For glasses, the office had a nice selection of frames and helped guide me through the process (I had not had Rx glasses before). One of my requirements from the NJMVC to reacquire my drivers license is to provide them with results from a vision test. I don't use my glasses currently and I'm not required by the state to wear them while driving. I called SFE on Wednesday (5/8/19) to obtain the strength of my last prescription glasses so that I can replace my old and scratched lenses in order to properly perform my vision test. After filling out my release form, I dropped it off in person (as I was not allowed to fax or email it over). As I dropped it off (since I currently do not have the ability to drive) I requested from Wendi, the receptionist, that she please call me when the records are completed so I could coordinate with someone for a ride over to pick them up. She confirmed this by reading my phone number from my file out loud to me to check that it was still the same. Yesterday (5/9/19), I called the office around 4:45 PM to see why I haven't received a call to see if my documents were ready as I was promised. I was told in a very condescending tone that "they've been here waiting since 2:00 PM." When I asked over the phone why I didn't receive a phone call, I got a song and a dance about how "I never asked for a phone call". You literally read my number out loud to me. I'm not allowed to drive. Why would I lie about asking for a phone call? Not my fault she's unorganized and didn't write anything down. When I mentioned that I'm not trying to argue about this over the phone, again, I got a condescending tone of "well, they're here now". Nice. I have 45 days to submit all of my tests to the NJMVC, so I had no choice but to find a ride for this day. Once I walked in, without saying a word, I was handed an envelope with all of my personal medical records. No identification was asked for, no date of birth, nothing. She just assumed I was the correct person picking up my documents. HUGE HIPAA VIOLATION!! I said "that's it?" She said "yup." Unfortunately, my girlfriend was present for all of my recent trips and had to witness all of this first-hand...but on we go with our lives. Thank you Somerville Family Eyecare for all of the hard work and effort you've put into running your practice. I appreciate what you've been able to do to correct my vision over the past 12 years. Unfortunately, I'm not going to allow my records to be in the hands of someone so careless that they just hand them out to anyone that just walks in the front door. Oh, and I also don't appreciate the nasty attitude from Wendi. I was originally going to see if SFE could provide my vision test since I now have vision insurance for the first time in 4 years, but I think I'd prefer to go anywhere else.
