She made sure my eyes were focused at the highest level. 2) Gina (Lab Manager) was also very warm, friendly, and oh so knowledgeable in what she does and made sure before I left the office that I was totally satisfied with my new eye glass prescription and for my new eye glass frames. Because of her great financial expertise, I was able to purchase 2 pairs of eyeglasses. 3) Judy (Office Manager) was also very warm, friendly, and oh so knowledgeable with the office procedures. That is very important in her position as Office Manager because she oversees the entire office. She is usually the first one you see when you sign in so her smile and beautiful approach are very important, especially if you are a new patient, though I am not. One of my requirements from the NJMVC to reacquire my drivers license is to provide them with results from a vision test. I don't use my glasses currently and I'm not required by the state to wear them while driving. I called SFE on Wednesday (5/8/19) to obtain the strength of my last prescription glasses so that I can replace my old and scratched lenses in order to properly perform my vision test. After filling out my release form, I dropped it off in person (as I was not allowed to fax or email it over). As I dropped it off (since I currently do not have the ability to drive) I requested from Wendi, the receptionist, that she please call me when the records are completed so I could coordinate with someone for a ride over to pick them up. She confirmed this by reading my phone number from my file out loud to me to check that it was still the same. Yesterday (5/9/19), I called the office around 4:45 PM to see why I haven't received a call to see if my documents were ready as I was promised. I was told in a very condescending tone that "they've been here waiting since 2:00 PM." When I asked over the phone why I didn't receive a phone call, I got a song and a dance about how "I never asked for a phone call". You literally read my number out loud to me. I'm not allowed to drive. Why would I lie about asking for a phone call? Not my fault she's unorganized and didn't write anything down. When I mentioned that I'm not trying to argue about this over the phone, again, I got a condescending tone of "well, they're here now". Nice. I have 45 days to submit all of my tests to the NJMVC, so I had no choice but to find a ride for this day. Once I walked in, without saying a word, I was handed an envelope with all of my personal medical records. No identification was asked for, no date of birth, nothing. She just assumed I was the correct person picking up my documents. HUGE HIPAA VIOLATION!! I said "that's it?" She said "yup." Unfortunately, my girlfriend was present for all of my recent trips and had to witness all of this first-hand...but on we go with our lives. Thank you Somerville Family Eyecare for all of the hard work and effort you've put into running your practice. I appreciate what you've been able to do to correct my vision over the past 12 years. Unfortunately, I'm not going to allow my records to be in the hands of someone so careless that they just hand them out to anyone that just walks in the front door. Oh, and I also don't appreciate the nasty attitude from Wendi. I was originally going to see if SFE could provide my vision test since I now have vision insurance for the first time in 4 years, but I think I'd prefer to go anywhere else.

I absolutely do not recommend this "doctor". Zero stars. This place has ZERO accountability, the…read moredoctor is very arrogant, they are liars, and they don't follow through. I do not recommend. Read on for the details. After the exam, I was whisked into the section with the glasses and was coerced into picking out very expensive frames that were barely covered by my insurance. It felt like a money grab. The markup on plastic frames is ludicrous. The frames that my insurance covers were piled in a bucket that I would have to pick through while the expensive frames were nicely displayed. I found out that I could get a lot more for what my insurance covers at Costco. I could have gotten 2 pairs at Costco for what I paid at the doctor for one pair. I called to cancel my glasses order and they said "it's too late." They placed the order an hour before I called. I hardly think they were grinding the lenses at that point. I got my glasses and I noticed that one of my eyes didn't feel right. I went back to see if the problem could be figured out. Long story short, Dr. Timko barely did anything to assess the problem and when I asked her to check the glasses against the prescription, she was *very* dismissive and said "We do that when the glasses come in." I went back to my regular eye doctor to see if he could help me figure out the problem. Turns out the eye that felt weird had a prescription lens that was stronger than what she wrote. I was right. If only she had the courtesy to check the glasses like I asked her to. I do not like being dismissed- I would imagine no one does. I called to let them know about this and they offered me nothing. I asked them to take the glasses back and reverse the insurance claim. They gave me credit for the glasses. A week later, when I went to purchase my glasses elsewhere, I found out that they never reversed the claim. I called them immediately from the optician's, and they assured me they would call insurance right away. TWENTY minutes later, I called back and they said they got busy. I told them this was supposed to be done a week ago and they said "it's a complicated process". They are liars, VSP is one of the easiest companies to work with. I had to pay full price for my glasses because of Timko's INEPTITUDE. I filed a grievance with my insurance company. She absolutely should not receive a DIME from insurance. I do not trust them with my eyes. This place has ZERO accountability, the doctor is very arrogant, they are liars, and they don't follow through. I do not recommend.

They are asking you to call once you're in the parking lot. I waited near the door (not hovering over it) and Dr Leggin came out to bring me inside. She took my temp right away, took my form and asked me to use hand sanitizer. I went into the exam room where she explained everything that was disinfected and what was being used. She washed her hands before starting the exam and used hand sanitizer quite frequently. She remained double masked the entire time and took the time to talk through some questions and comments during the appointment. Once done, I checked out with the front desk, which is partially covered with plexiglass except for a small opening to pass through paperwork and payment. The person at the front desk was also masked and there were signs posted about the guidance they're following. My appt was on a Wednesday and my contacts and glasses are expected to arrive the following Monday. Overall, a solid appt. Peace of mind knowing these are the steps being taken for an eye appt. She is not able to see the same volume of patients due to all the extra steps needed. I lucked out getting an appt just a few days from calling. She is dedicating an hour per patient to allow time for those extra steps (disinfecting, taking temp, asking to to use hand sanitizer, etc). Parking is easy as there's a dedicated shared parking lot for the area she's located (behind old man rafferty's).

last year, because I declined the two aggressive attempts at upselling other services when getting…read moremy eye exam, I was rewarded with a glass prescription that I had filled at Costco that left me with a pair of progressives that were terrible for driving, and downright unusable for walking down a city street. I could barely read with them. After bringing in my prescription glasses to have Tom at Pearle graciously try to adjust them, I simply gave up and accepted the fact that they were unusable. One year later I brought those glasses to Costco to have the doctor there give me a new prescription for which I would use the frames I had bought the year before. When she compared the prescription that she had come up with with the one that had been given by the doctor at Pearle vision she shook her head. They were very dissimilar, and I happen to know that my eyes have not deteriorated in a year. Because after I deemed my Peare vision prescription glasses were unusable, I simply went to the dollar store to get a 2.5 pair of readers for driving and a 3.5 pair for reading. The short version now is that with my new prescription from the very attentive and competent eye doctor at Costco I have a pair of glasses that work like a charm, that required no adjustment. The exam was fully covered, and the lenses fabulously priced. This office is simply a money factory, and I do not recommend them in the least.
