I had a very upsetting experience with this doctor and would not recommend him, especially to anyone who struggles with anxiety or sensory sensitivities. I came in for a concern about a spot in my eye, and without much explanation, he immediately dismissed it as dirt and attempted to approach my eye with a needle. I was already feeling anxious and lightheaded, so I calmly asked if I could reschedule and bring a support person to help me manage my anxiety during the procedure. Instead of showing understanding or professionalism, he became extremely rude and dismissive. He repeatedly called me a "baby" and mocked my request for support, saying it was unnecessary and "stupid." I explained that I am neurodivergent and that having support is important for me, but he continued to belittle me. He then told me that if I didn't allow him to proceed immediately, he would refuse to see me again and asked me to leave his office. I left feeling humiliated and ended up crying in my car. No patient should be treated this way--especially when they are being open about their mental health needs. This was not only unprofessional, but completely lacking in empathy and basic respect. My colleague went in for an eye exam, but the doctor began commenting on her weight, and told her she should lose weight. That felt unnecessary and outside the scope of an eye specialist's role. Unless there was a clear medical reason connected to her eye health, it wasn't appropriate to make that kind of remark especially without proper context or sensitivity. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Leitman's for over 25 years. When I first went there, the office was filled with butterfly and rock displays, all beautifully arranged and displayed. It was a feast for the eyes to see and quite educational. It was like a trip to a museum. Now he has overfilled the place with knicknacks and trinkets. It's quite eccentric looking. However, as a doctor, he's excellent. I didn't note any arrogance as a previous poster claimed. Maybe that poster is confusing arrogance with professional knowledge. The person at the front desk is friendly and welcoming too which is just as important to me as the quality of medical care. I went to Dr. Leitman because I was experiencing sharp pains in my eyes during sleep. I called on the morning and got an appointment right away. That impressed me. He throughly looked in both my eyes and quickly found the cause. He told me to buy a certain OTC solution and ointment. Within a few weeks the pains have subsided and now they are totally gone. I will keep him as my doctor. You cannot replace all those years of experience. read more

A couple of weeks ago I got hit on the eye with a tennis ball really hard. Knocked me down to my knees. But I got up, felt ok. A week later started to see floaters while traveling overseas. Got concerned that I had a torn retina. Called the office of Dr. Leitman the day after Christmas, he answered from home and told me to see him first thing the following day. It was my first visit with him. I received excellent care, Dr. Leitman explained what I was experiencing, why, what the prognosis was. He was very thorough and very reassuring. His staff was very welcoming and professional as well. I come from a family of doctors and medical professionals, and Dr. Leitman made me feel like family from the get go. Dr Leitman is very thorough and a great conversationalist. He has always given me great advice. I especially appreciate that he is willing to come in on his day off to see emergency patients. He has done that for me in the past and it was greatly appreciated. He has an eclectic assortment of items in his waiting room. Do not let that deter you from seeing him. He not only saved my eyesight at my first visit from an athletic injury, but recently correctly diagnosed a tumor on my pituitary gland that was affective my vision by pressing on the optic nerves. My diagnoses in the past came with a wealth of information not just a script and an order to come back. Today my visit was routine but reminded me of the reason why I go back to him: attention to his patients. He has incredible knowledge in the field of ophthalmology which he shared by his new research (maybe for a bit too long). But all in all a really nice guy and great doctor. Called Dr. Leitman's office on a Sunday night after experiencing an unusual pain in my eye. I left a message and received a call back very early the next morning. I was told to come in right away. Even though I had never been a patient in the office, the receptionist that answered was gracious and understood my concern. I was very surprised when I stepped into the waiting room. It's definitely different, but a fun, very interesting, and not boring place. I had my appointment after a short wait and had my eye problem resolved.
