What an incredible team! From the very first call, they were a dream to work with! They gave us a very reasonable quote and even provided us boxes to pack up our items! On the day of the move, the team came early, walked us through their plan of action, and got right to it! They were so professional and pleasant. In fact, thanks to their speed and skill, we finished several hours ahead of schedule! Would absolutely work with them again and have already recommended their services to several friends! read more

This review is specifically about a safety concern involving one of the company's trucks. While we were in heavy traffic on 101 N, the driver repeatedly drove on the shoulder/emergency lane to bypass traffic and then forced their way back into the lane. In doing so, the truck was squeezing us out of our lane and creating an unsafe situation. I have photos identifying the truck/company. Regardless of the traffic, this was dangerous and concerning driving behavior. read more

Pat Ryan Moving and Storage - Movers Near Me - San Francisco, California

See all

I utilized the Pat Ryan Moving and Storage team to have furnishings removed from a house in order to have some work done on the interior. The team arrived on time and the guys were professional and ensured the furnishings were well padded and covered to minimize risk of damage. They took care to ensure there was no damage to the house during the move out. I originally told Pat that I needed storage of the items for about two weeks. Unfortunately, the work on the interior took nearly four weeks. Pat was extremely accommodating and made no fuss about the added time. His crew came back in when the house was "refreshed" and got everything back into place, again, taking great care not to damage the new floor and the newly painted walls. I can't opine on the price compare with other movers, but I believe I paid a fair price for the work the crew did. read more

Pat Ryan Moving is phenomenal - the process started with Pat coming to our house to give us a quote. It was helpful for him to diagnose the parking permit situation, how long the move would take, etc. The guys were all efficient & nice guys - highly appreciate the hard work they put in going up and down multiple flights of stairs on either side. Would recommend working with Pat Ryan Moving! read more

We have moved twice with Pat Ryan and know we can never leave San Francisco because then we wouldn't be able to move with Pat Ryan again in the future. Both moves were incredible, but I'll focus on our most recent: 1) Accuracy: We got an estimate that was very close to the final price for a pack and move. They benefitted from having moved us 2 years ago, but I still appreciate the accuracy. 2) Efficiency: WOW. We had a team show up, immediately go to work, and move us faster than we've ever moved before. 3) Care: They moved us perfectly. Everything showed up in the right room, boxes were stacked thoughtfully (no walls of boxes!), and furniture was re-assembled and placed perfectly. We had them place felt on the bottom of furniture and every single piece got the proper treatment. Best of all: nothing was broken. 4) Final Cost / Value: Due to their speed, the final price ended up coming in under the estimate. All in, huge fan of Pat Ryan and because of them I no longer fear moving. Although, hopefully our next move is in the distant future! read more

Best movers I've ever hired. Professional, calm, kind and we're very accommodating to my difficult San Francisco condo. They got the parking permit, easily managed the steep hill, were respectful of the HOA rules and got the job done quickly. I'd recommend them to anyone moving in the area. read more

I give Pat Ryan Moving 10 stars! I have used them for two moves already and am very impressed by their professionalism, responsiveness, and excellent and fast service. They handled all my items with great care and accommodated all my special requests. Both times, Clive's quotes were right on point. (The second move was even much cheaper than expected.) And most importantly, everyone on the team was extremely friendly and pleasant to be around! They had a great attitude, were very personable, and made the moving experience fun and easy. I will definitely use them again for my next move! read more

We have used Pat Ryan for three moves and they have been excellent. Highly recommend them for their professionalism, courtesy, efficiency and excellent customer service. read more

We hired Pat Ryan Moving to load a truck we are driving across the country. The job came in at double the estimate yet I'm not unhappy, which says a lot. Moving a big house that you've lived in for 15 years is a disorienting experience. Start with the emotion of leaving an old home for a new one. Then there's the physical thing... you pack these boxes which seem incredibly heavy, then the Ryan guys load 2 or 3 of them on their backs at a time which is awe-inspiring. And third is the Rubik's Cube thing of getting all that stuff to fit in the most efficient possible manner, an art at which these guys are masters. We could have saved an hour or more at the end (at $$ per) if we'd not asked the Pat Ryan guys to fit everything possible at the back of the truck. Even so we couldn't fit a lot of it and left it behind. But that's another story. read more

Pat Ryan moved me last weekend and they were amazing. The movers were fast, efficient, really nice and helpful. They provided us with boxes for free. I definitely felt like they respected my things. Everyone at the company is communicative and organized. I would absolutely use them again! read more

We just completed our first move with Pat Ryan after everyone single one of my colleagues at work recommended them to us. The whole experience completely exceeded my expectations! First -- booking was a breeze. We spoke to Clive on the phone who answered on the first try, gave us a quick (and very reasonable quote), walked us through our options for getting a permit for the truck, and helped us feel really prepared for the move. We booked our move ~3 weeks out. Clive called us a couple of days in advance to make sure we had all the info for a smooth move. Next -- the day of the move. We had a crew of four guys who were simply AWESOME. We packed everything in our 1-bedroom ourselves which made the move go super fast. We definitely invested in being prepared and, as a result, our move was done in just over two hours. Nothing broken, nothing misplaced. We came in under budget which left more money for a tip! Pat Ryan ended up coming in cheaper than the last company we used, they were more professional, and we didn't have to lift a finger (we helped the last crew a lot to help things go faster). Can't recommend them enough! read more

I've used them twice now- both times they were quick, efficient, and got the job done in under 3 hours. For a 3 bedroom apartment going up and down stairs and up stairs into a storage unit. They are nice people, too and the price is always fair. read more

My roommates and I used Pat Ryan, and were very satisfied with the result. We had boxed and labeled all of our belongings and furniture ahead of time, and as a result they were able to move all of our three bedroom apartment in less than two hours. We came in under budget, with less than $500 pre tip for the move. They were quick and professional with anything that needed disassembly and reassembly, and when a very small scratch happened on a bookshelf, they immediately alerted us. read more

This was my second time using them in three years. Both times they were polite, professional and very efficient. They moved everything in one a few hours. They gave pointers on how to make it go smoothly and knew the City well enough to know when we needed a permit. I hope to never move again but I will recommend Pat Ryan to any friends moving. read more

The short version Pat Ryan Moving & Storage gave me good service when I was evaluating moving companies, after I booked my move with them, and during the actual move. I would use PRMS again without any hesitation. The long version I needed a moving company to pack and move my household. I narrowed down a selection pool of about ten companies to three finalists, including Pat Ryan Moving & Storage. I selected PRMS because it was proactive in surveying both the origin and destination addresses, quickly scheduled an in-person site visit to provide a binding estimate, and was very responsive to phone calls and emails whenever I had questions. I also liked PRMS' Yelp reputation and Better Business Bureau membership and rating. Packing and moving went well. I have moved many times and used many services, including self-moves, paid movers, corporate relocations, interstate moves, and intrastate moves. So based on my experience, some key things PRMS did to make my move successful were: *Bringing ample packing supplies *Bringing a variety of tools for disassembling and assembling furniture *The crew chief was organized and a good supervisor *The crew worked efficiently and was correctly sized for the job *Everybody on the crew was friendly and careful Overall, every part of my move was handled professionally, I always felt like I knew what was going on and that PRMS would be responsive to any questions or concerns that came up. I have an important note for readers of this review: since my move was not a long distance move, I moved my computer and home theater gear myself. As a result, I can't speak to how PRMS packs and moves electronics. I do, however, have some antique furniture that requires careful handling. All of it was moved without any problems or damage. read more

Francisco, Daniel and Nelson did a fantastic job with our move. Francisco came in to our apartment, assessed what needed to be done, saw the new apartment and was able to execute the move quickly and efficiently. The three men were cheery and professional the entire time and were very quick to get everything done. They were very considerate of COVID-19 concerns, wearing masks at all times. We'll definitely be using these guys again when we move from our new place. read more

First off, I don't like moving. There's nothing about the process that makes me happy. But Pat Ryan Moving made the entire process a lot less painful than I feared. We moved an entire house of stuff from SF to the east bay. After coming to our house to see what was moving, Clive provided us with a quote upfront. He also gave us some tips in how to best prepare for the move. The team that showed up on moving was was professional, courteous and efficient. They asked questions and provided guidance. They clearly marked boxes so we would know what was where when we arrived at the destination. We also knew that we wouldn't be unpacking everything into our new place right away, so they made a special effort to wrap and label some things for longer-term storage. At the end of what was a long day, they came in under their initial quote. We couldn't be happier with Pat Ryan and would highly recommend them for anyone needing help with a move. read more

Booked these guys for a full pack and move, and they were outstanding! Every single one of the gentlemen who came to our place was conscientious, kind, and incredibly hard working. I know my 2-star rating isn't going to put a dent into the rabid following here on Yelp, which makes me that much sadder because I felt really let down trusting them all. Granted, we probably got the B-team, but you should at least know they have a B-team and they might be moving you next. They moved my boyfriend, K's, 1-bedroom apartment and my 1-bedroom into the same house this past weekend. They stopped at K's place first, so I can't speak to their efficiency there, but the ~2 hours was probably reasonable considering he has a lot of crap and it was completely disorganized. BUT, then it took them 2 hours to move my stuff, which was ridiculous because it was all boxed and neatly stacked in a corner with a clear, SHORT path to the elevator in the hall. AND I have 1/3 the number of belongings as K. (Note, this same stuff took 2 guys from Got2Move 45 minutes to clear out from a 2-story walk-up last year... Pat Ryan had 3 guys & an elevator.) AND I was constantly arranging stuff for them to stack onto their hand-truck. This was NOT a sit-back-and-let-them-handle-it kind of move. Weren't they embarrassed? I'm a little Asian girl. I thought I was paying my hard-earned money these to strong, lanky dudes... to move my crap. THEN, after this lackluster performance, they asked me for directions to the new place. Uh, didn't we give you the address ahead of time so you could figure this out? and aren't you picking routes around SF for that giant truck daily for a living? ... so again, here I am paying my hard-earned money to do their job for them... anyone else finding this ironic? So I imagine this isn't everyone's experience because that's a lot of 5-star ratings, but just know you might be the one in a hundred that ends up completely disappointed, robbed, AND EXHAUSTED! Totally not worth the money. read more

They came on time, which was a little earliier than my future sister-in-law was with the truck, but they didn't complain, they just started hauling stuff outside to the sidewalk. They were really fast and efficient and packed a lot into a small space. I was super impressed. Then we unpacked. Stuff that they said they put blankets on was uncovered and worse for it. Other things were damaged too. The truck couldn't ahve been driven more carefully, so I don't think it was that. Kinda soured the whole thing read more

This review is pretty late considering that I used them this past February, but I'm just getting around to it because I am about to have to move again, and I won't be using these guys to do it. They were very pleasant and helpful when I called to schedule my move. However, although I'd booked three guys, when the morning came, I got two and no forewarning about that. I was charged the lower fee, but it ended up costing the same as the estimate because it took longer. It wasn't until after they'd left that I noticed that my beautiful bird's eye maple armoire was damaged (strips of the finish had been pulled off the top front). There's also a box missing, but I'm not going to blame that on them. In the end, I trusted the Yelp reviews, but I'm going with someone else this time around! read more

I hate to give these guys a bad review, but I must be truthful. We used them in April 2007 for a move from one loft in SOMA to another. For the actual move they were great - swift, pleasant and uncomplaining, even though our elevator at the second loft was out of service for most of the move. We were delighted with them at the time -we even bought them lunch and gave them a good tip. Then they left. And we noticed - when moving our expensive Giulio Bench coffee table (yes, the one we had saved up for and lovingly purchased at DWR) - that they had chipped off a part from the bottom of the bench and covered it with gum and black shoe polish so that we wouldn't notice. Yes, you read that right - gum & shoe polish! It was a little odd that they brought in the coffee table absolute last from their truck during the move... We then realized it was because they wanted the shoe polish to dry as much as possible, while minimizing the time that they, us and the now chipped coffee table would spend in one room. We also noticed that they had cracked two of the legs of our dining table. What gets me most is not that they chipped the coffee table and cracked the legs of the dining room table - these things happen in moves and it's not unexpected. What gets me is that they purposely tried to hide the damage from us - and hoped that they would get away with it. This is a terrible way to do business. ***12/15/07 amendment - Pat Ryan, the owner, contacted me shortly after I posted the original review and apologized profusely for his crew's behavior. He immediately picked up the coffee table, took it to a refinisher, and when he found out that the table was unrepairable, offered to replace it or to compensate us for the damage. I'm pretty happy about how he's handled this and trust that this was a one-off aberration by his crew that won't happen again. Based on his reaction, I would probably recommend him, although I would say that you should be cautious that the crew handles expensive items properly. read more

These guys seemed like a pretty safe bet, judging by their reviews, and for the most part, my experience was pretty good! They were super-fast, and mostly friendly. Strapping 4 boxes to their backs and running up and down stairs seemed like a breeze - It seemed like I'd hired some an entire football team, vs the three dudes that there were in reality. It was all well and good up until the bill turned up... I was quoted for 6 hours + one hour of driving time, which I was led to believe would be the driving time from my old apartment to my new one, which was a good deal of a drive away. Come to the end of the job, and *exactly* 6 hours had passed, and I thought "Great! They did the entire thing with an hour to spare!" Not so. Apparently the time they spent driving to my place counted as work-time, and the extra driving hour was some mythical hour I was paying for. I kept my tip in my pocket, and just filled out the cheque, having felt a little bit taken advantage of. I'm not sure if it was deliberately quoted to me confusingly, or an actual honest mistake, but it felt dodgy and slightly greasy. read more

They just left and I don't want to wait one more minute to write a review. This guys are excellent. Who likes moving? ....*crickets*..... Who likes packing? ....*crickets*...... Who likes cleaning? ....*crickets*..... Now who likes sitting back letting professionals do all the loading & unloading? Meeee! Who likes having a brand new space to decorate giving you an excuse to buy new furniture? Meeee! Who likes a fresh start? Meee! And....wait for it.....who LOVES having a view of the park from her window? Yea, that would be meeee! You'd think I was in the witness protection program with how many times I've moved in the past 2 years. What is this now, lucky no. 5? Ok, lucky no. 5. From the first phone call (3 wks before the date) right up to the morning of the move, Pat Ryan was very friendly and extremely professional. 3 guys total showed up right on time the morning of my move and ready to get started. One of the guys went through the paperwork with me very thoroughly to make sure I knew exactly how much the whole process would cost and what i was paying for. I like that -- step by step details really helped to put me at ease. The guys were quick, grabbing boxes and wrapping dressers to make sure the drawers didn't slide out and wrapping up my bed. Attention to detail and care with my belongings definitely won them points. All in all, from start to finish, Pat Ryan did the move in an hour, well, maybe an hour and 10 minutes, but that's pretty damn quick. They also took the time to roll out carpets and set up furniture. Despite the fact the price was a little more than I'd hoped for, it was money well spent. They made moving (yet again) a painless, easy and stress-free process. And being a lil lady on my own, it helps having 3 strapping young lads do all the work. (that's not to say I couldn't carry a box or three myself....*looks at arms for confirmation*....) I would definitely use them again. Let's just hope I won't need them any time soon. *crosses fingers* This move started out with me being extremely stressed out and overwhelmed but it was a blessing in disguise. Feels good to be back in my old hood. read more

I had an excellent move with Pat Ryan a year ago, but my recent experience left me wondering what happened. Pat did seem to fit me in (meaning I got the team after having doing a first move that day) but I'd rather he had said no if it meant having such slow, expensive service. The movers were just as polite as last time, but not nearly as efficient or enthusiastic. For the price premium, I would have expected stellar service and a move in 2/3rds the time it took the 3-man crew this time around. This rating is an average of my previous 5-star rating and my experience this time. It's disappointing for me to have to do this. read more

One time I used this company for a move from Palo Alto to San Francisco. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a business. After unloading all of my items, I realized that they forgot a piece of furniture. They refused to go back and get it, and I couldn't fit it into my car. My feisty friend demanded that they return and get it, and they finally agreed after yelling at me, and after involving their manager. I followed them back to Palo Alto to show them the piece that was missing, and they were silent and disrespectful to me. Silent like, "thanks for your help!" and no reply. If you want all of your items when you get to your destination, and/or non volatile movers with an attitude, go with another company. read more

This past weekend I used Pat Ryan to move from San Francisco to the South Bay. I cannot say one bad thing about Pat Ryan - they were awesome! It makes a HUGE difference when you move and you have people that know what they are doing and do a great job. My move consisted of about 60 boxes of various sizes and a handful of large pieces of furniture. The crew I had was super fast, careful, respectful and did a great job. My crew was Patrick, Jason and Liam and I would recommend them and Pat Ryan Moving to anyone in search of a moving company. I also spent a good amount of time price shopping and comparing them to the competition and their rates were in line with everyone else...but when it came time to pay they came in under their original quote!!! These guys know how to move people and are pretty impressive...they are amazing at what they do. read more

Pat and his Irish boys have actually helped me not only move, but pack twice now. Both times, they've been incredibly accommodating with the move dates and times. The first time, they moved me from SoMa to the Inner Richmond. When I found out that they also offered the service to pack my things as well, I was all over that. They came, they packed, the moved, they got stuck in the elevator. Yes, one of the guys, on his very last trip down after having moved everything, got stuck in the elevator between the 1st and 2nd floor. He took it in good humour and was able to escape after about 15mins. Fast forward to a year later. My roommates and I were moving to Inner Sunset. I convinced them that there was really no better way to move than the experience I had last time and they were bought in. Sure enough, they did not disappoint. Everything was packed quickly and safely. I have some pretty challenging furniture including a long TV stand and a glass dining table but none of these phased the always chipper boys. One thing I recommend is to have some cheerful banter and some beer in store for afterwards. Everything else, they'll take care of. read more

Pat Ryan was a pretty painless moving experience -- which is more than you can say for, like, the entire actual moving experience. Scheduling was super easy and on the moving day, everyone was timely, respectful, and super tidy. The initial quote process (and scheduling call) was pretty thorough, and I realize the quote they provide isn't binding, but it does bum me out that there ended up being a 30% difference between the quote and the final charge. That's a big price difference I wasn't budgeting for, hence knocking off a star. I should have known better and gotten an on-site binding quote, but oh well. Learn from my mistake and get that binding quote! Otherwise I could not have had a more pleasant experience. read more

This was the best move I have ever had because they made it seem easy. Moving is not easy, I have used movers about ten times, and there are always moments of anxiety. Not so with Pat Ryan. They made the whole experience seem like a walk in the park. On the phone and giving a quote, Pat and Clive were uncommonly patient, respectful, organized and low pressure. They gave me the time me to collect my scattered thoughts and figure out what I really needed. I spoke to three movers who were "five-stars" on Yelp, and Pat Ryan put me most at ease. The movers were fantastic. Punctual, respectful, fast as hell. They didn't grunt and groan like most movers, they cheerfully did stuff they hadn't expected to do (removed a light fixture so my couch could fit out the old door, figured out how to disassemble/reassemble my Ikea furniture, did a long haul at the new house when the truck didn't fit down my driveway). They were amazingly mellow about having to double-park their truck, and didn't run roughshod over my apartment. Most movers will do the stuff you ask them to do, complaining all the way. I personally find it very uncomfortable to have to boss around big, burly men who are resentfully doing their job. Not so with Pat Ryan's Callum, Paul and Nico. They proactively did things, and never made it seem hard. Usually I tip movers because I feel bad after they have appeared to struggle all day. With Pat Ryan, I gave the boys great tips because they made it seem so easy. The price here is on the higher side, but in the end it cost less than others had quoted due to PR's astounding speed. When you also factor in the "no stress" factor, these guys are a bargain! read more

Box of Guinness. Move did not include one. It's what I wanted to give after Pat Ryan got me from Mission Point A (renter) to Mission Point B (owner!) with efficiency, humor, wit and care. Noel, Vito and Cecil couldn't have been friendlier. Felt like I was part of the team even though I didn't have to do anything but stay out of the way. Last minutes items that I had planned on moving myself were wrapped and carried out no questions asked. Everything arrived in perfect condition. Boxes given free of charge at their Bayview facility. Be sure to call ahead. $150/hour was more than reasonable. Only two hour minimum. Irish charm and personality comes free (Cecil brings SoCal charm). Hope to never move again. But if I do Pat Ryan will be there to get me from Point B to Point C. Guinness will be waiting. read more

2 years ago, our family used Pat Ryan Moving to help us move a medically challenged elder loved one from her small condo to an assisted living facility. Well, more accurately, the family dealt with the challenges of moving her, while the awesome movers of Pat Ryan handled the securing and transporting of the entire contents of her bedroom to her room at her new home. It was an extremely stressful time for our family and the staff and movers couldn't have ben more prompt, efficient and flexible -- especially considering the move was literally just 4 blocks away. I don't recall the exact charge, but I remember thinking it was very reasonable. Despite having to move heavy items from the 11th floor of the old building to the basement of the new building, the entire dismantling, securing, transporting and re-setting up took no more than 2 hours, if even that. I recall it was fast, over before I knew it. I see so many different moving company trucks in the streets out there, but I would definitely recommend Pat Ryan for your moving needs. They are very professional and have an established history. Lastly, a couple of interesting points: 1). WRAP PARTY? They secured our big pieces of furniture by wrapping industry-grade saran-wrap around them multiple times. It was fun watching them do that. 2). COLIN FERRIL? The movers that day happened to be a trio of strapping young men of Irish descent. I am a fan of hearing English spoken in different accents, so that was an unexpected treat. read more

Everyone has said how nice and helpful these guys are. Quick and efficient and the price is definitely reasonable. My move was fast and they took apart my furniture and rebuilt it. Cinco stars for Pat Ryan - - Again! My fiance and I moved into bigger digs down in Redwood City. We used Pat Ryan again and they did not disappoint. Very quick, efficient and pleasant. They moved our two bedroom house and storage unit from San Mateo to Redwood City in 3 hours, granted we were all boxed up and ready to go. I will say that the entire crew from the first move seemed more experienced than this second time, as one of the guys was definitely new and needed direction from his co-workers. read more

Uhh-Mazing. Clive and the guys packed up my our three person home then packed up the truck and moved everything from SF to Novato. The SF place was an upper unit condo with long, narrow stairways and these guys got furniture out of there easily and safely that others had had trouble getting INTO the house originally. I can't say enough of how conscientious these guys were about carefully wrapping and packing everything--family heirloom glassware, artwork, you name it. Not. One. Thing. Broken. The crew was respectful, professional and now we're moved in, on time and on budget. read more

I've only used movers a couple times and the first time was too long ago to remember. But I vividly remember my move a year ago and I can say that this time it was drastically different. Clive was our "go to guy" and he was extremely professional and flexible. I gave him some of our horror story from the year before (moved over 2 days, not 1; 12 hour move days; and over $2800 in moving costs). He came to the house and gave me an estimate based on our stuff. I let him know my concerns about cost and time. He warned me I would need two trucks (blech), but if I moved the smaller things myself I would save some money. I spent a week moving small things and I still needed the two trucks! They were on time, polite, extremely efficient, and I was impressed by the guy who carried my dresser down on his back!! They even accomodated some unplanned requests, such as moving the washer and dryer from the garage back down to the basement. They didn't charge extra other than the additional labor that fit into the entire move. The final cost was only slightly higher than the quote and mainly because I ended up having to move some things I couldn't sell before hand and some other things I was unable to get into storage first. I can't thank them enough for giving me peace of mind that I wasn't being ripped off! And nothing was broken or damaged. :) read more
